Hello, my name is Jenny Tomasello (Olmos) and I'm just beginning my research into my family tree. Unfortunately I do not have much information to go on as my family lost touch with my father when I was about 2 yrs old (adopted); so if anyone has any tips to guide me in the right direction I would be very greatful =)
My father (Steven Andrew Olmos - first born) was born (3 Aug 1950) to Gil Olmos and Juanita Almeyda when Gil was 60 yrs old.
My grandfather, Gil Olmos, was born 1 Sep 1891 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco to parents Juan Olmos and Andrea Aguilera. This information I was able to find on FamilySearch.
Again, I would be extremely greatful if anyone could give me ideas on beginning my search
Thank you!
Jenny

New Member Introduction
Hello,
My name is Brenda Estrada and I am very excited to be a new member of this
group. The area I am researching is Jalpa, Zacatecas, particularly the
ranchos El Palmar and La Pitaya. The surnames I am researching include
Estrada, Viramontes, Mejía, Hernández, González, Sandoval, Ortega, Medrano,
López, Avelar, Muñoz, Salazar, Huerta and Pérez. All of my research has been
done through Family Search, but I have hit somewhat of a roadblock as the
records for Jalpa are not very extensive. I am going to keep digging through
the records currently posted online and hopefully I will find something that
will lead me to another town that has more extensive records.
Thank you very much for accepting me into your group!

Jalpa + A New Hope
Hi Brenda,
You'll find there are people doing research in Jalpa that are also looking into the last names you listed. I for instance have several of those names as well, although my lines are mostly found in La Villita and Huanusco/Tabasco.
Like you noted, the information for Jalpa is limited, but there are several possible avenues to consider. First, look in the surrounding churches (like Tabasco or Huanusco). You may find that the informacion matrimonial films will open various lines of research. I've also found family in nearby Teocaltiche and Villa Hidalgo, Mesquital del Oro and Calvillo.
As you know the IM films end in 1864, but I've recently started looking in the Diocesis of Guadalajara Matrimonio films and have marriage information for Jalpa. I don't know how far back there will be Jalpa IM there, but at least there's the possibility that you'll find a lot more than you think.
Look at my posted GEDCOM file and let me know if you find any names that match yours.
Good luck hunting,
Arturo Gonzalez
Jalpa + A New Hope
Arturo,
I have looked through your GEDCOM file and unfortunately none of the names
you have match up to mine. So far none of the Informacion Matrimonial
documents that I have found have led me to other towns or ranchos. I guess
my family liked to stay in the same place! =) I have also started to look
through the Diocesis de Guadalajara records so hopefully I will find
something there. Thank you for your help and recommendations. What years
have you found Jalpa Informacion Matrimonial in the Diocesis de Guadalajara?
Brenda
Jalpa + A New Hope
Brenda,
I've started looking in reverse order 1858-1863. I haven't completed 1858 yet, but I'm keeping track of the IMs I find for Jalpa or IMs for people from Jalpa getting married elsewhere.
I plan to share these IMs when I'm done with 1858 and will update it frequently. If you want to collaborate send me an email so we don't waste our time duplicating searches.
Arturo
