if a certain relatives name is Juan Jose Leano de la Torre and his
parents are Antonio Leano and Juana Cardenas. What types of speculation
are possible for the "de la Torre"?
could it be any of these possibilities?: paternal grandmother's surname;
maternal grandmother's surname; What are some other possibilities?

Paternal or Maternal Grandmother???
Hello Joseph,
The only thing I can help with is that is does not say Gutierres. it says
"...María Antonia de Ledesma; española originaria y restante de esta dicha
villa hija legitima de Geronimo de Ledesma y de Micaela de Luera q[ue] no
[h]a[e]st[a]da casada ni belada, q no [h]a dado palabra de casamiento ni
esponsales a persona alguna..." What looked like Gutierres to you is a
shortened version of "que no ha estada" written as qnoastdo.
Saludos,
Armando

Paternal or Maternal Grandmother???
I would think that Antonio was also Leano de la Torre but wasn't written that way in his record. It could be an old name like my Llanos de Valdes, where some dropped the Llanos or dropped the Valdez. If you know his mother's name was Cardenas, then it wasn't she who was the "de la Torre", right? On Google I found several people surnamed Cardenas Leano, or DeLaTorre Leano, and some Leano de la Torre. The "n" has a ~ (tilde) over it.
