Dear Group,
I'd like to ask your experienced guidance in the research of my Arrambide branch that has apparently hit a brick wall.
Martin Arrambide died 11/16/1762 in Salinas Victoria, NL and his burial entry states he was Europeo. In my experience with family members that were born in Spain, the entries state he was from los Reinos de Espana/Castilla, or something to that effect. This led me to research the surname Arrambide a bit. It's probably Basque and possibly from France.
In Israel Cavazos Garza's, Breve historia de Nuevo Leon, he is briefly mentioned as such: Ya en 1741, el obispo de Guadalajara, don Juan Gomez de Parada, establecio una escuela formal y nombro como maestro a Martin de Arrambide, encargandole mucho la buena educacion de los ninos.
Does anyone know where to research this type of order or mandate made by the bishop of Guadalajara of that time? Would this be found in some place other than Diocesis de Guadalajara? Discovering this would probably yield more information on Martin's origins and possibly his age, either of which would be a great place from which to continue.
Thank you so much for all your help. Alice Blake

Hi Alice:
I have no information about Martín Arrambide, but feel free to ask me if you need about any other family from Salinas Victoria, my great great grandfather Leandro Villarreal Garza was from there and I have many info about those families.

Salinas Victoria
Hi Enrique,
Thank you so much for your offer of assistance. Martin Arrambide was the greatgrandfather of Jesus Arrambide who married Genoveba Garza 07/20/1854 in Lampazos de Naranjo, NL. Aside from their marriage entry, I don't have any info on this particular couple. Their ancestors, however, open up the world of Nuevo Leon for me. After Martin's arrivial from Europe, the Arrambides appeared to remain in Salinas Victoria, as were the Morales Aguada, Garza Cantu, and Gonzales Ochoa all relatives from both sides of this couple. It would be interesting if we had any ancestors in common, but because there were so many Garzas and Gonzales in the area, it would be a pleasant surprise.
It sounds as if you've been researching this region longer than I have. And although it is new to me, let me know if I can be of any help and I will gladly share what facts, or leads I may have.
Take care, Alice
