1648 Census of Valpariaso and Rancho Carboneras, Zacatecas, Mexico

Hi everyone,

I want to ask anyone what distance is a "legua" that was used in Zacatecas year 1648?

Comentario

Hi,
According with the book of "descubrimiento del parral" (has a glossary at the end)

I hope it helps

Research resources for Michoacan

Can anybody recommend some good books...even though they may be out of print, to research the Mexican state of Michoacan?

Hello,

2 recomendations:

1. PARTIDOS Y PADRONES DEL OBISPADO DE MICHOACAN 1680-1685. Lots of census for many places in michoacan

2. I would visit LIBRERIA COLMICH. they are part of the COLEGIO DE MICHOACAN. The bookstore has many books for michoacan and colima. I have bought in the past books from them. I don't know if they ship out of the country you would have to ask. Best source for books for the area

That is my problem. I know that she is definetly part of the family but so far the only ANDA RELATED people mentioned if all the records that I have are:
1. Esteban de Anda and Maria de Nava (MARRIAGE- godparents in her marriage- Teocaltiche- 1659)
2. Sebastian Altamirano de Castilla (BAPTISM - godparent of one of her kids baptized in Aguascalientes- 1677)
3. Bernabe Altamirano y Castilla (BAPTISM- godparent of one of her kids baptized in Aguascalientes- 1679)
4. Lic. Joseph de Anda (confirmation- godfather of one of her kids - Teocaltiche 1666)
5. Maria de Nava (Confirmacion- godmother of one of her kids - Teocaltiche 1666)

In none of the records there is even a clue of how they were related with her. I don't know if I'm missing a document. I know that when "her father" died didn't leave a will (juan de Anda), and I haven't been able to find the will (if any) from "her mother" (Juana Ruiz de Nava). I already verified all the confirmations for Teocaltiche or Lagos without any success. I'm not aware of any census for the years for that area (about 1631-1633) . I read the capellania that isabel and Francisco Prieto left, she doesn't mention her parents. I just don't know where else to look. Thank you so much for asking!

Welcome to the forum Gloria. I'm sure you will find it very rewarding.

You may want to read through this recent thread. A Martin Tello Orozco was the first husband of my 8x Great Grandmother - Lorenza de Haro.

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/21785

You might want to start a tree from the top down with Martin's father Francisco Tello Orozco, b: abt 1595.

Good luck in your search,

Thank you ever so much Roy. Funny you should mention Martin Tello Orozco. His name keeps popping up everywhere and I didn't know whether to claim him in my Tello line or not because of the Orozco. Possibly the Orozco was dropped at a later time. I sure would like to know why. Anyway, I'm delighted to realize that we seem to be connected and I will sure do as you say and do my Tello homework. Again, my thanks and appreciation to you for this wonderful news!

Transport of criminals to Alta California

Hola a todos. My ancestor, Jose Augustin Narvaez was sent to Alta California (to the Branciforte colony) in 1797, apparently "as a juvenile delinquent picked up on the streets of Guadalajara".

If he was from Aguascalientes, causas criminales can be found in the Acervo Digital del Archivo Historico. Maybe there’s something on your ancestor there. It’s been years since I used this archive, since they moved it, but it’s still available online:

Let me know how that works out.

Hello and thanks for the clue. My ancestor arrived in Alta California in 1797, joined the Spanish Army and went on to become the alcalde of San Jose CA in 1821 and later (1844)obtained a Mexican land grant in the same area. He did all of this under his birth name.

Hi, Manny.

Thanks for the clue. However, my source implied that the judicial authorities would have been in Guadalajara, not Aguascalientes. I tried a search, but could not select Guadalajara as an option. In your experience, has Aguascalientes ever been considered to be a part of Guadalajara (possibly as a "suburb")?

Dear Marty,

In order to help you in your research you need to provide information on your great grandfather that will help guide us in identifying him.

You may start off by gathering as much information as you can on him.

The names of his wife /wives, siblings, and children. Dates and locations to go with each name wherever possible. Any information that specifically identifies him. The records of his children and his siblings may provide valuable clues on how to proceed with your research

Good luck,
Rick A. Ricci

Rick,

thanks for your response. Actually, I mislead you. I have all the info. you spoke about. I can put that genealogy report online here. (It might be hard uploading the 22 documents however. How about I just upload the report...I guess on this forum topic)

I thought there was a formal/ procedure in the actual submission of a request. Yes, all the family info. I have.

Title: Researching online for the birth date of Jose Navarrette
Prepared by: Marty Puentes
Prepared for: My research files
Date finished: Began 23 December, 2018- Finished ?
Research question/goal: What is the birth date of Jose Navarrette (my paternal great-grandfather)?

Background Information:
After interviewing my paternal grandmother in 2005 in Riverdale, CA., she gave me the name of her father, Jose Navarrette, where he was born, La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico, and his birth date 8 February 1892. My grandmother also gave me the name of his mother, Guadalupe Chavarria. Grandma also said that her parents, Jose Navarrette and Panfila Enriquez were married in May of 1916 and that they met in Tipton, CA. After several years of floundering I decided to hunker down and get more specific on citations and sources in my genealogy. I acquired several documents, most of them with birth dates that differ from the date my grandmother gave me.
In my possession is a bottle of wine I acquired from my cousin, Jim Queen, his mother Connie Navarrette, sister to my paternal grandmother. It has the name Jose Emiliano Navarrette, 9 August, 1896. This bottle came into possession of grandma’s brother, Miguel Navarrette, who as of this day, 4 January, 2019, is still living. (who is this name on the bottle?) Miguel also has a birthday coming up soon. I have also heard that his wife wants to write a book about his life. I plan on attending that party.
My father also claims that Jose Navarrette used to work for the railroads. When I spoke with my father’s first cousin, Jim Queen, son of Conception Navarrette, grandson of Jose Navarrette, he claimed that Jose Navarrette was a cotton-picker and a farm laborer. He also said Jose Navarrette used to make his own wine. Jim Queen claimed to know nothing about working for the railroads.
04 February 2019 Update
After about a month of searching and documenting I have definitively identified Jose Navarrette’s DOB. I will now focus my research on Mexico. In addition to an ongoing “to do” list, I will now focus on Mexican civil and church records to search for birth and baptism documents. I have researched before and found both parents and siblings on multiple documents. I will now collect and consolidate these documents.
As of this update, the following are records on Michoacan on the website www.familysearch.org. I will primarily be researching the civil baptisms and marriages, as well as the church records. (The dates below are when these documents were last updated. They also contain an additional number indicating how many records are in each database). Also, there are about two dozen additional records (not all of them are records that I will be searching) on the same website-these documents are not indexed and will take addition time to look over. I found both Jose Navarrette (2957222) and Panfila Enriquez’s (4795331) Alien registration numbers. I will order these from the NARA website.

Question? Is the SSN listed Jose’s or the person making the claim? What to do next? This document must also be obtained from the Social Security Administration. What pertinent information can be gained from obtaining this document? Name of the person who made the claim or inquiry in 1978…eight years after Jose’s death, & aprox. eleven years after his wife’s death, Panfila Enriquez. Additional note: As of 3 Feb 2019, I have not pursued this document further. I believe this to be an inquiry someone made, friend or family member, obviously after his death. A US social security death index. This document spells Jose’s name correctly, Navarrette. His last residence is: 93656 Riverdale, Fresno, CA., USA. His DOB is 8 Feb 1892. DOD is July of 1970. The state and year that SSN was issued in California in 1951. One conflicting piece of evidence, the SSN is: 573-444-0887. (I believe this to be his correct SSN.) However this conflicts with the SSN listed on document 3. Question? Which number is Jose’s? Could one of the numbers belong to his wife Panfila? Or does it belong to the person making the claim on document # 3? What to do next? Order the social security file for Jose Navarrette.

US 1910 census
Through the website www.ancestry.com. A Jose Navarrette (same spelling as today), is listed as 20 years of age. Approx. DOB puts it at about 1890 (close to age range I am looking for.) Birthplace: Mexico. Home in 1910: Stafford, Stafford, Kansas. (Appears to be derogatory) Street: “Bunch of Mexicans-right of Way St & SF RR.” Race: white. Gender: male. Immigration year: 1910. Marital status: single. Both parents’ birthplace: Mexico. Native tongue: Spanish. Occupation: laborer in the railroad industry. Employer: wage earner. He is listed as able to read and write. Being employed by the railroad coincides with future documents and family information about Jose being employed by the railroad. Question? Is this the Jose Navarrette I’m looking for? Conflict: The immigration year 1910, conflicts with document # 18, which says immigration is 1911, and claims that Jose had never been to the USA previously. Also, this document indicates that Jose was able to read and write. This conflicts with other documents that say Jose has a 3rd grade education and is unable to read or write. What to do next? Use this information when tracking down Jose’s railroad employment record. Initial research indicates that employment records for some railroad companies have been destroyed.

Jose is listed as the head of household. His birthdate is listed as “abt 1894. (This conflicts with previous documents about his DOB.) Age at first marriage is 22. Birthplace is listed only as Mexico. The residence is Washington, Alameda, California. The street listing gives no number, only dwelling number 255, and listed as “County Road.” There is a “County Road” on Bay Farm Island, close to Oakland International Airport.” The family is renting, has a home value of 3 (I assume $3,000.00). The family does not own a radio set. It lists Jose as able to read and write English. His parents’ birthplace are listed as Mexico only. His immigration year is 1910. (Conflict/affirmation: this date concurs with the date listed in document # 6.) Occupation is listed as laborer, industry is Farm. Naturalization is listed as Alien. Language spoken is Spanish. Jose is listed as the head of household, along with eight children and his wife Panfila. (Conflict: his wife Panfila is listed as being born in California. This is obviously a mistake.) Conflict: His age is listed as 48, which would give him an approximate birth year of about 1892, which conflicts with other documents in this report. His birthplace is listed only as Mexico. His residence in 1935 is only listed as Fresno, CA. He worked 52 weeks in 1939, has an income of $400 a month, and the property value is listed as $800.00. His highest grade completed is 3rd grade. Border Crossings: From Mexico to U.S., 1895-1964
The name listed is Jose Chavarria Navarette. Date of admittance is listed as Permanent residence is : P.O. Box 523, Five Points, CA. Alien Registration No. 2957222. DOB for is listed as 8 Feb 1892 at La Piedad, Michoacan. Male. Married. Occupation is farm laborer. Unable to read or write. Nationality is Mexico. Height: 5’ 3”. Weight 155lbs Dark complexion. Black hair. Brown eyes. Visible distinctive marks: flesh mole under right ear. Lawfully entered the US for permanent residence at El Paso, Texas under the name of: Jose Garcia (Navarette-Garcia has been crossed out.), on August 23, 1911 (Sep of 1910 has been visibly crossed out). Hunch! Is it a coincidence that document # 6, the 1910 US census, lists a Jose Navarrette. Interesting find: the document makes the claim that Jose admitted being arrested, indicted, or convicted for being drunk in Fresno in 1938. The document also suggests that Jose had “not” been excluded, removed, deported or granted voluntary departure from the US. Jose was sworn in on 21 Nov 1946 in Fresno California before an immigration officer. (The signature of the officer is somewhat illegible). Border crossing card number is: 324431 and was issued on 24 Feb 1947 and valid until 23 Aug 1947. Jose was admitted on “3-8-47.” The document does have a fingerprint and Jose’s “mark,” as the document was not signed with a signature by him. (see below). Additional information on the card that I am not familiar with includes: “3015-c”; the date; “12-29-48”; and, typed on the card are the words, “NOT ON N P LIST.” What to do next? Obtain Jose’s Alien Registration file through the National Archives (NARA). (As of today, 20 Jan 2019, the NARA website is down due to a government shutdown [Trump]).

Document # 17
California, Railroad Employment Records, 1862-1950. This is an interesting document! Estimated DOB: 1894; age listed: 28; employment start date: 18 Feb 1922; discharged: 19 Aug 1922-violation rule "G." (alcohol); Company: Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe - Coastline (California branch). (Remember, in document # 6, US 1910 census, it lists a Jose Navarrette in Kansas. Coincidence?) I am unsure if this is the correct Jose Navarrette on this document. Also listed on this document are the words, “PERSONAL RECORD FILE DESTROYED 1964.” What to do next? Still a lot to do here. There are at least half a dozen more “Jose Navarrettes” listed under “California, Railroad Employment Records, 1862-1950.” Need to obtain ANY personnel/employment file for Jose Navarrette. Unsure at this time WHAT railroad company he was employed by, if any at all. More work needs to be done here. This record/document needs further research.

Action by primary inspector is listed as: RS…something..unclear. Followed by the initials: LRC. The inspector signed as…Moss, or More. TRACK LABORER is also listed. Unsure what this might be. Possibly Jose’s occupation. Action by board of special inquire: Debarred 14 Aug 1911. Cause: only the initials P C are typed. Serial No. is 116 or 110…hard to read. Unsure as to what this number may be. What to do next? Order Alien file for Jose and his wife Panfila.

Marty,

You provided much Information that led me to come up with the following:

Alejo Navarrete and Guadalupe (Echevarría) Chavarrías are the parents of

1. Maria Camila De La Trinidad Navarrete

Baptized 20 Jul 1903

La Piedad Cavadas, Michoacán, Mexico

4. José Celso Del Refugio Navarrete.

La Piedad Cavadas, Michoacán, Mexico

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9PR1-V6?i=2055&cc=1883…

Notes:
1. The siblings were born in Guanajuatillo, Apatzingán, Michoacán, Mexico.

2. Francisco Chávez and Guadalupe Cisneros are the godparents of three of the siblings. It would be wise to see what you can find out about them as they may lead you to more clues about your family

3. There are often slight discrepancies in birth dates José Celso del Refugio Navarrete Echevarría may be your great grandfather and not his brother. According to the census record he was born the same year as José Celso del Refugio Navarrete Echevarría
See: census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XCX2-KKR

5. “Able to read and write” is subjective and many times someone will be identified in one record as being able to read and write, while in other records they state that he can’t read or write. Some times they are speaking of different languages. Jose could have been able to read and write in Spanish but could not do so in English.

6. A possible source of confusion when researching your family is that there are two José Navarrete married to women named Panfila. The second José Navarrete is married to a Panfila Melendez in Texas. Both couples lived about the same time.

Hope I wa able to help,

Colotlan Jalisco Indexing Family search

To whom it may concern:

well the colotlan records available on family search are partially indexed. what would be awesome if familysearch were to acquire/digitize more records from that city. i'd love to look at pre-1720 marriage records from there.

but if you were t index the remaining unindexed record, you'd need to find which ones are and which aren't.

Comentario

By starting on the oldest records available. they have not index them. They have index about 1800 going up.

My goal is to start at the oldest reference and work up to meet the index in family search.

The reason is we spend to much time looking at web links when we can help each othet indexing and finding our ancestors. optimizing every click we do in family search

What does hija Esp.a, I think it's Espuna?

"Por derecho canónico se llaman espurios los que nacen fuera de matrimonio y de padres que no podían casarse al tiempo de la concepción o al del nacimiento y por derecho romano se da esta denominación no solo a los que no tienen padre cierto, sino también a los que lo tienen, pero no pueden honestamente nombrarle, por ser fraile o clérigo o pariente cercano de la madre o por estar casados esta o aquel o los dos con otras personas."

My translation:
Per Canon law, persons are called "spurious" who are born out of wedlock and from parents who could not marry at the time of conception or at the time of birth, and per Roman law this denomination is given not only to those who don't have a father, but also to those who have one but cannot honestly outright name them because the father was a missionary or clergy or close family relation to the mother, or because either one or both parents were married to other people.

So there you go. Hijinks galore in Ayotlan.

Comentario

Just thinking out loud, but could it be (due to timing of the records) that in this parish, children of common-law or civil marriages were considered "naturales" (as civil marriages were becoming more of a thing yet the Church didn't recognize them as married) and children who were from parents who weren't paired up in any recognized fashion were the ones labeled "espurio/a?"

I do love the fact that the padrecitos listed not only the names of the fathers, but also the paternal grandparents! The father's name was normally left off of their "illegitimate" children's documents, leaving the mother to carry the responsibility, at least on paper. :)

Just a guess. I've also never seen that label before as Esp.a/o usually indicated non-indigenous, but by the 1800's folks were mixing pretty well.

~Sandra

Comentario

Could it be espuria, which is also another way to say illegitimate? I wasn't able to determine a difference between the two based on the use in this source.

Comentario

Espuria - illegitimate. Same as natural, expuesta and exposita. What's interesting, is that the previous entries are listed as "natural."

Manny Diez Hermosillo

Comentario

Thank you everyone for helping.

It is strange and it's the same priest writing these but uses natural and espuria and both mention both father and mother. So it must have a different meaning?

Esther

Comentario

I am reading it as espuna as well.

I am not sure of the meaning and in my limited experience reading documents I haven't seen that word before, but I will take a few guess.

1. Both H. Esp (hija espuna) and H.N. (hija natural) are both illegitimate/out of wedlock (or whatever term there is) children. When they say espuna they are meaning espanola, and when they say natural they are meaning indian/native. Kind of like records that say vecino de (insert town) or natural de (insert town).

2. Or it could mean, parents are a couple but not married and for the other parents not together.

Check other records of the people in the document to see patterns. It might help.

Meaning of "el moco" after someone's name

What is the meaning "el moco"?

I think it is like senior or junior, but am not sure.

Comentarios

Comentario

(Wikipedia)Spanish has not used the symbol since an orthographic reform in the 18th century (which replaced ç with the now-devoiced z), but it was adopted for writing other languages.
ç (lower case, upper case Ç) "c cédille", the letter c with a cedilla; Usage notes . Ç is not considered a distinct letter, but a variant of C. It is used where a c pronounced /s/ occurs before a , o or u (due to etymology or inflection).

You will see it in some of the old Spanish text MOÇO

Comentario

el mozo is junior and el viejo is senior

Typically its relative to the document you are reading so there is no answer to who el Mozo is. Most times it refers to a father/mother and son/daughter in the same document with the same name but it doesn't have to be that way. Sometimes it can be between a granparent and a grandchild or nephew uncle or similar relationship. I think the only thing you can actually be certain about when you see "el mozo" or "el viejo" is relative age.

Comentario

Moco means junior. But that doesn’t mean that when a person named el moco is the younger person in a record. In at least one document el moco referred to the older person and the younger person was referred to as “ el menor”. What happened in this case was that there were three men with the same name. The “moco’s” father was “el Viejo”.

Comentario

Of course "el mozo" would refer to the youngest of two people with the same name.

There is another possibility, an hilarious one. It could be a nickname, but I think it isn't very probable. If it were a nickname, it could be indeed "el moco" and not "el mozo".

Ricardo:

Dear Simona,

Thank you very much for the lead. Please send me the link since I haven't been able to see where you found this info. So far what I have been able to gather is that at one time Alonso Angulo y Montesino was a treasurer at one time, and that montesino is recognized as a converso family. Alonso was the first owner of the hacienda where Miguel Hidalgo Costilla was born. Miguel's father was a foreman (administrator) of the hacienda. I am related to both Miguel Hidalgo and Alonso Angulo y Montesino. Those two also had common relatives. The family was passed down, or sold, to family members for a couple of centuries before it was finally sold outside the family. When it was sold outside the family, the new owners conspired to hide the fact that Miguel Hidalgo was born there and paid off some people to get them to state that he had been born elsewhere.

I have been unable to find information on the parents of Alonso Angulo de Montesino and Cathalina Lira. Hopefully your information will provide a couple of leads.

Thanks again, Rick A. Ricci

this couple had no sources attached on www.Familysearch.org but they had quite a few childrens names so it looks like someone knew who this couple was just didn't attach where only it states "history" as source. So you can find this couple using their names above. they show as coming from Spain. The first couple of children born in Spain and then the rest in Mexico. Later it has Guadalajara as residence and marriages.

Buenas Tardes,

Saludos Cordiales,

If it wasn’t for our ancestors marrying near and distant relatives then
“Sólo del total de las 11 últimas generaciones,
Fueron necesarios * 4.094 ancestros * para estar aquí hoy ...¡Cerca de 300 años antes de nacer..”.

But in Los Altos de Jalisco family often married family, that is why so many marriage dispensations were required. My Father is a third cousin of my maternal grandmother, my maternal maternal great great grandparents were second cousins twice, my wife and I are fifth cousins. i descend from Josesito Martin’s del campo seven times through the marriages of his descendants. My wife descends from Josesito Martin del Campo twice.I could go on and on.

My research shows that many of the first settlers in Los Altos de Jalisco descended from common ancestors in Spain. So my family tree over 25 generations expands, condenses, expands again, condenses again repeatedly.

That is very tree. I really didn't pay too much attention to the numbers though as my family intermarried a lot as well. My maternal great grandparents were first cousins, and my great great grandparents were related as well (I just don't understand how to determine the degree). I joke often about how my mothers family tree looks more like a bonsai tree.

But in reference to my original post I liked the part about imagining what our ancestors must have lived; and how if it were not for their existence, I might not be here today.

By the way thanks for the help with my father's side of the tree. I was able to expand a few more generations.

I would like to clarify that Antonio De la Cadena does not descend from the Gutierrez Cavalleria. He descends from the Cavalleria family, but does not have Gutierrez in his last name. His Cavalleria ancestors are a couple of generations back. Antonio De Saavedra Guzman and his wife were second cousins through their Estrada lines, and distant cousins through their Cavalleria lines.

Josefa Perez Maldonado is my and my wife’s tenth great-grandmother. This line that I show here goes to my wife’s grandfather, Francisco A. Tostado y Casillas

I still need to review every step to confirm this work. I added a correction as to the ancestry of the Martel as the evidence points not to French royalty as many genealogists claim, but to French Jewish ancestry.

This possibility is still in the research stage and more documentation is needed before making this claim. Isabel Saavedra Monroy and Diego Perez-Maldonado are the parents of at least four: Josefa Perez-Maldonado, Juan Perez -Maldonado, Angela Perez-Maldonado and Luis Perez -Maldonado.

Many years ago a drawing was being passed around as the image of Martin Casillas “el Alarife”. It turns out that the image was really of another one of my ancestors Antonio Saavedra Guzman, an historian and poet. Antonio Saavedra Guzman is the maternal grandfather of Josefa and Angela Perez Maldonado.

I descend from Josefa Perez Maldonado and Manuel Lomelin. Josefa Perez Maldonado is the daughter of Isabel Saavedra Monroy and ? Pérez Maldonado. In the record that I show here it lists her father as Luis Perez Maldonado. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6D92-M7?i=1069&cc=1874…

I believe that some of the confusion regarding whether the father’s name is Luis or Diego is that there were two “Luis Perez Maldonado”, father and son, and the elder Luis is the son of a Diego Perez Maldonado.

Isabel Saavedra y Monroy is the daughter of Juan Saavedra Guzman who descends from Alonso Estrada el tesorero, (who claimed to be son of King Ferdinand II el catolico) through two of his daughters as again we find endogamy in the family. Juan Saavedra Guzman also descends from King Pedro “el cruel” Rey De Castilla.

There is also some confusion over Isabel Saavedra y Monroy’s mother as her father was married twice. I am unsure as to which wife is her mother though I suspect that it is the one with the surname Monroy. Even though the record names her mother as the second wife, it gives Isabel’s surname as Saavedra y Monroy which would make her the biological daughter of the first wife, Maria De Monroy y Flores, and step daughter to the second wife, Ines Brenes y Mendoza.

Here is the record which shows Diego Perez Maldonado as the husband of Isabel Saavedra y Monroy.: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-DV96-M5?i=51&cc=1874591

Josefa Perez Maldonado’s brother, Juan Perez Maldonado’s baptismal record shows his father’s name as Diego Perez Maldonado.

Thank you so much for sharing so much info. I see now that the orden of Juan Perez Maldonado offers so much information including his baptismal record.

My mom is in Mexico at the moment and I gave her a list of books to find for me, with this info you have so kindly provided I know where to focus my research for now :)

On another note, I was going through the padron from Jalostotitlan offered in the book Historia de Nuestra Senora de San Juan Los Lagos and this is further proof to me than Angela, Juan & Josepha were siblings, since Angela is listed with her husband Bernabe Martin (del Campo) living with Do Perez Maldonado and Isabel de Saavedra, below are Manuel de Lomelin & Josepha Perez I will attach it to a new post, since I can't seem to do it here.

Angela Perez Maldonado's daughter Isabel was baptized by Juan Perez Maldonado in Ameca in 1702 (family search ID MTCX-G3P) and the baptismal records names her mother's name is Angela Garcia Maldonado, as well as the padron. However, on her death record she is named Angela Perez M.

I can't speculate as to why Garcia, but it may seem that their great grandmother Ana Garcia de Miranda was an important person

Thanks again for all you bring to this forum, I am lucky to be related to you

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

After finding my correct family line, I've come to conclude the following:

Rick,

I'm hoping you can help me out here. I cannot seem to find the baptism record for my GGreat-Grandfather, Guadalupe Hernandez. Son of Jose Maria Hernandez-Gamino, and Maria Valentina Padilla. I'm wondering if you have it in your records by chance.

I can assume he was born in 1837-1840, from records I have (which I can share with you, at your request).

He was married to Cirila Gonzalez. They married on May 28th 1870 in Arandas, Jalisco. To my knowledge, they had at least five (5) children:

-Cristobal Hernandez (Born 1871)
-Sabino Hernandez (Born 1876 (My Great-Grandfather))
-Pablo Hernandez (Born 1880)
-Andres Hernandez (Born 1886
-Maria Hernandez (Born 1891)

I believe he passed away December 16 1889.

Thank you,

Carlos

Comentario

Carlos,

I have not been able to find the baptismal record of Guadalupe Hernandez. In most cases, names like Guadalupe, Trinidad or Dolores are middle names so it is harder to find their records because we don’t know their first names. It is important to look closely at all known records to see if you can find any additional clues as to the complete name. The easiest strategy is to start with Jose, Josef, Joseph, or J. as the first name.

If he was named after his uncle, then we should be looking for another baptismal record with the name Pedro Jose de Guadalupe Hernandez.

Good luck in your research,
Thank you,
Rick A. Ricci

Rick,

Thank you so much. You are a gift to this community.

This family/tree matches what I have. I had a sneaking suspicion I descend from the Hernandez-Gamiño family line. This confirms it.

I have a few records for children of Jose Maria de Jesús that seem to be missing. I'll add them in.

Again, thank you so much!
