Esther:
In response to your question for Joseph, the index of the AGI or Archives of the Indies is digitized along with those of the major Spanish archives in a website run by the Ministry of Culture in Spain.
The website is called Archivos Españoles en Red (AER) and the link is available in the LINKS section of the Nuestros Ranchos site.
As far as using it, you have to sign up for an account and searching is a bit of a crapshoot I have found because many of the search criteria do not work.
As far as searching passenger records, the best bet is to do a general search, use two fields and put the name in one and the work "pasajero" in the other. If the last name is uncommon, just the last name is best but if it is a common name, you will have to try different permutations of the whole name in quotes, i.e. "Jose Godoy", "Jose de Godoy", "Joseph de Godoi", etc.
There are some guides to using AER:

Joseph, What do you use as an identification do you use when registering? I don't have a passport. Also what hours are they available.
I tried registering late at night and got a window saying "not available now try later".
Thanks,
Esther

I didn't need any ID way back when I registered. I think the previous
messages were saying that you needed to just fill in the information
about your background as to whether you were associated with a certain
University or Group and what area you are researching and your purposes
for using the Archives. Also the hours are 24/7 you must have tried them
when their site was down which happens periodically even with the NR Group.
thanks,
joseph

Let me know if you get totally fed up with trying to register. I'll take
a crack at registering you in with your email address. It might or might
not work from my computer I've never tried it before. Let me know. I do
remember that it was quite tricky.
