Does anyone know how I can locate a certain church in Mexico? For example, I know that my grandmothers parents were married in San Juan de los Lagos, but I do not know what church. THe document says the priest is Don Urbano Barragan Velasco, a minister is also listed as Presbitero Francisco Esquivel and a "Father Priest" Senor Cura Pantaleon Fortolero. The priest who certifed the document in 1950 is named Estaban Sanchez V. I guess I may want to search the surnames of the priests to find family members who can tell me where this church is located. Any other suggestions?
Churches in Mexico
BUENO, NO NECESITAS SABER EL NOMBRE DE LA IGLESIA NI EL DE LOS SACERDOTES , LO UNICO QUE NECESITAS SABER ES EL LUGAR Y LA FECHA. SI QUIERES DIME DE QUE FECHA ESTAS BUSCANDO Y YO TE LOCALIZO EL MICROFILM DONDE SE ENCUENTRAN TUS PARIENTES Y AHI YA VAS A VER LA IGLESIA EN QUE SE CASARON .

Place Name Library Catalog in Familysearch
One more hint. If you are using the Place Name Library Catalog in Familysearch, sometimes you will come up with nothing. That does not mean that they do not have records for that area. That search has to be exact, with your spelling exactly as they have it in the familysearch database. If at first you do not succeed, try, try again with alternate spellings and if you still do not find it, call your local Family History center and ask for some help.

Place Name Library Catalog in Familysearch
In addition to what Maureen Bejar said, you can also take your search one step back and look at the State level instead of the town level and that way you can see all of the towns that have information in that state. So if the name is misspelled you can easily see the variation "as they cataloged it". You would go to Place search and instead of putting the town, spell the State name and then choose the state and then click on "View Related Places", a list of all of the related places populates in alphabetical order. Then you choose the desired city (place). Try it, it's not that hard.

Batch records in San Juan Los Lagos
Almost forgot, you might want to check out this site under films. Some of the records might have been batched already, which will cut your search down dramatically. However, you may want to order the film anyway, as some records do have much more information than what is on the batched record. It is the luck of the draw whether there is more information or not. Sometime you only get exactly what is on the batch or sometimes you get more generations, aunt and uncles, ages, occupation, origins and all sorts of lucky charms with the actual microfilm document.

Links to San Juan Los Lagos

Hopefully the links above will work. The first is to the Library Catalog of familysearch. I put in the "place": San Juan Los Lagos and then "part of": Mexico
Click on the church records for San Juan Los Lagos and then at the top right there will be a button for "View Film Notes". It will list all the records and years on the left with the film numbers to order on the right.
Hope this helps.

Churches in Mexico
Lisa:
Most of the smaller towns in Mexico have only one parrish, even if there is more than one temple. Thus for records purposes, there is only one place to look as records are always kept at the parrish level.
San Juan de los Lagos is no exception. If you go to familysearch.org and check under the "Library" menu item, you can search by location and you will find that the only parrish in San Juan de los Lagos is the "San Juan Bautista" parrish... thus the name of the town.
You can then pull the films available for that town (civil or church), get a film number where you think your great-grandparents were married and order the film. If their marriage was onld enough, simply go to the "Films" section of Nuestros Ranchos and pull up the index for the marriage records of the town to find their marriage record extract.
