Has anybody researched in the area around Tenamaxtlan, Jalisco? I'm trying to locate an ancestor who was born in this feligresia in or around 1751, but the baptisms seem to begin in 1757 for this parish.
Juana Maria Sanchez (sometimes spelled Sanchis) was married on 21 apr 1765 to Juan Bautista Macedo in San Joaquin, (found in the Guachnango films). According to the matrimonial information, she was born in Tenamaxtlan around 1751. Her parents were Nicolas Sanchez and Manuela Espinoza. I've been able to find several of her siblings after 1757, but not her baptism, much less her parents marriage. Where did the people of Tenamaxtlan register before the parish was established? I would assume Atengo and Tecolotlan, being the closest towns, are my top choice. But it seems that the Atengo records have not been microfilmed! For now, I'll start browsing the films in Tecolotlan hoping to find Nicolas Sanchez and Manuela Espinoza's marriage. If anyone has some additional advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sanchez
I have been searching through the Sanchez family in Ayutla and Tenamaxtlan as well and had gotten back to the 4th ggrandfather: Pablo Luis Maria who was married to Agustina Macedo Rodriguez, which are familiar names in that area. However, then I found a slew of documents showing that Pablo, who mostly went by Luis or Luis Maria, also used the name Bernal. I have found several children for this couple and some used Bernal and others used Sanchez. Any thoughts?
Sanchez
I'm sorry, I just started research on this family so I haven't gone that far. So you mention that Pablo Luis Maria Sanchez is 4th greatgrandfather to whom? Nicolas Sanchez, or Manuel Sanchez?
Saludos.
Tenamaxtlan
I've gone through pretty much all of the Tenamaxtlan records and certainly share your frustration. I've found many in Tecolotlan and Ameca. Also Autlan, Ameca, and Moscota. I have a few minor sources that might be helpful; although you probably already have them.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Corona Arechiga. I'll follow your advice and search in those parishes once I get stuck in Tenamaxtlan. I was lucky to find this marriage record in Guadalajara and it clearly shows that at least the groom was from Tenamaxtlan. Thanks for the links. I did not have the second, and I appreciate it. On the third link, I was not able to find a familiar name in any of the entries, which one do you think is related to this couple?
For the first film, I did have that dispensa. I was able to find it thanks to one of the two dispensation indexes provided by two of our members. However, I notice that the film number for this is 168107 : https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18411-66140-84?cc=1874591&wc…
The link you provide belongs to another film, but it is exactly the same record! It looks like these dispensation records were microfilmed twice?
By the way, do you have the Macedo Sanchez family in your own family tree?
Saludos.
Macedo Sanchez Family
Hello,
I apologize for giving you the wrong link on the baptism for the grandchild of Juan Baptista Macedo which was actually on the following page:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18457-88909-95?cc=1874591
I found entries for other children of you ancestors: Manuel Sanchez and Maria Ocarranza in Autlan. It seems many of the records for Guachinango have never been indexed.
I do have this family in my tree, but none are direct descendants.

Macedo Sanchez Family
Indeed, the Guachinango films have not been indexed and I've had to do most of my research in this parish the old fashioned way, page by page, reading every single entry. Fortunately I've been lucky to find some fellow genealogists who have provided me with some links to specific records and suggestions.
Thanks for the tip on Manuel Sanchez and Maria Ocarranza.
Macedo Sanchez Family
Steve! We aren't only related through Curiel, apparently we are related through Sanchez as well. I've been trying to find information on Andres Sanchez (son of J. Manuel Sanchez and Maria de Ocarranza). That's who I descend from. I've found Maria Jacinta Sanchez (from Tenamaxtlan), daughter of J. Manuel Sanchez and Maria de Ocarranza, married in Autlan on 27 April 1758 to Clemente Phelip Quintero (from Ameca). They settled (and had children) in Tecolotlan.

I found information on the children of J Antonio Sanchez (son of J. Manuel Sanchez and Mairia de Ocarranza) and Gregoria Aguilar born in Ameca

For Andres (son of Manuel Sanchez and Maria Ocarranza) I haven't found his baptism cert nor his marriage cert (but I'm guessing he was born around 1750, give or take 5 years). He married Feliciana Banuelos and had a daughter in Jerez, Zacatecas:
Maria de San Juan Sanches JUl 17, 1783
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-LV9S-ZK?cc=1804458&wc=MC78…
and the rest of his children were born from 1788-1804 in Ameca, Jalisco. I'm only missing the information for my great-grandfather Jose de la Luz Sanchez (Sanchis on some documents). I found his marriage cert:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18568-36893-99?cc=1874591&wc….
There's a Juan Maria (son of Manuel Sanches de Mendoza and Maria Ocarransa) that married Rosa Ortis de Tapia on 16 Feb 1744 in Autlan... but I'm not sure if this is still the same family. I'm guessing Andres was one of the youngest children and Juan Maria one of the oldest.
Now I can add Nicolas Sanchez as a sibling of Andres Sanchez. Slowly but surely the pieces
to the puzzle fall into place thanks to everyone's contributions.
Found it!
Well, I just found this marriage record:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18380-16775-28?cc=1874591&wc…
It seems that this couple was married in Guadalajara on January 28, 1750. Nicolas parents were Manuel Sanches y Ma. de Ocarraza(?). Manuela's parents were Antonio de Espinosa and Josepha Dias.
If any of these names sound familiar to someone, let me know.
