I would like to clarify that Antonio De la Cadena does not descend from the Gutierrez Cavalleria. He descends from the Cavalleria family, but does not have Gutierrez in his last name. His Cavalleria ancestors are a couple of generations back. Antonio De Saavedra Guzman and his wife were second cousins through their Estrada lines, and distant cousins through their Cavalleria lines.

Many years ago a drawing was being passed around as the image of Martin Casillas “el Alarife”. It turns out that the image was really of another one of my ancestors Antonio Saavedra Guzman, an historian and poet. Antonio Saavedra Guzman is the maternal grandfather of Josefa and Angela Perez Maldonado.

I descend from Josefa Perez Maldonado and Manuel Lomelin. Josefa Perez Maldonado is the daughter of Isabel Saavedra Monroy and ? Pérez Maldonado. In the record that I show here it lists her father as Luis Perez Maldonado. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6D92-M7?i=1069&cc=1874…

I believe that some of the confusion regarding whether the father’s name is Luis or Diego is that there were two “Luis Perez Maldonado”, father and son, and the elder Luis is the son of a Diego Perez Maldonado.

Isabel Saavedra y Monroy is the daughter of Juan Saavedra Guzman who descends from Alonso Estrada el tesorero, (who claimed to be son of King Ferdinand II el catolico) through two of his daughters as again we find endogamy in the family. Juan Saavedra Guzman also descends from King Pedro “el cruel” Rey De Castilla.

There is also some confusion over Isabel Saavedra y Monroy’s mother as her father was married twice. I am unsure as to which wife is her mother though I suspect that it is the one with the surname Monroy. Even though the record names her mother as the second wife, it gives Isabel’s surname as Saavedra y Monroy which would make her the biological daughter of the first wife, Maria De Monroy y Flores, and step daughter to the second wife, Ines Brenes y Mendoza.
