Archives/Archivos de la Biblioteca Pública del Estado de Jalisco "Juan José Arreola"

Hola/Hi:

Gracias,
Arturo

Has anyone obtained any records from the Universidad de Guadalajara's Biblioteca Pública del Estado de Jalisco "Juan José Arreola"? The archive "Registro de Archivo" contains records for wills ("Base de datos Bienes de Difuntos"), and lawsuits and legal matters ("Ramos Civil, Criminal o Fiscal").

I would like to obtain several records but don't know where to begin and am hoping someone has done this or has actually obtained access to them? It doesn't look like the records are online. I'm wondering if they can scan these records for those of us not living in Guadalajara.

For instance if you Google "vicente covarrubias site:http://www.bpej.udg.mx/" you will come across the records for Vicente Covarrubias, one of which relates to my ancestor Catalina Venegas, http://www.bpej.udg.mx/ra_busc3?id=1075
Thanks, Arturo

Introduction: Richard Ibarra

Saludos a todos! Hello everyone!

My name is Richard Ibarra and I am researching my mother's family in Los Altos.
While I have researched my grandmother's father's family, the Angulo Hernandez lin back to Miguel de Angulo and Domingo Hernandez Gamino, I am not 100% positive on the line as I have only been able to use what i have been told by my grandparents, family search and nuestros ranchos to this point. Continuing with my grandmothers family her mother was Maria de la Luz Bravo Gonzales, daughter of Juan Bravo and Maria Refugio Gonzales. As of yet I have not been able to find anything about these two but I do know Juan was alive well into the 1980s and lived in Tepatitlan and that his mother was named Filomena Arambula.

My grandfather's family I know his grandfather was named Gil Ibarra Padilla and his fathers name was Ricardo but have been unable to find more. My grandfather's mother was Maria Maximiana Melano Gonzales and I have traced back the Melanos to a Policarpio Melano and a Maria de Jesus Rodriguez but can not find anymore. There are varying stories from my great uncles and grandfather as to how or why but they believe that the name was Medrano before it was changed to Melano. I have not researched the Gonzales family too much either but Maria Maximianas grandparents were Tomas Gonzales and Panfila Martin.

Any help for further ways to investigate would be greatly appreciate, thank you do much for this site it has helped alot and if I can help in any way please let me know. Thank you all! Gracias a todos!

Su amigo,

Richard Ibarra

church records

Hi Everyone,

How does one go about requesting records from a church in Mexico & how does one go about finding someone when some of the records are damaged?

I have searched through records (films) available from the FHC but some of these are so bad it's hard to make heads or tails of them. Even the civil registrations don't always fair well either.

I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thank you,

Marquez de los Olivos en Monte Escobedo

Hoy revisando las dispensas matrimoniales de los Sanchez Castellanos encontre la dispensas de 1794 pag 1112
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18417-62535-33?cc=1874591&wc…

Devianart (drawings) To Try To Recreat Colonial Era of Region With Drawings

I am fascinated with our geneology of the colonial era of our region in Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes.

I am amazed at how people can make such good drawings called Devianart. I want to get into that so that I can draw what our towns looked like in the colonial era.

San Martin Y Estrada

I am looking for someone that is willing to look up the surname San Martin Y Estrada in two books:"The Econmenderos of New Spain 1521-1555" by Robert Himmerich y Valencia and "Cartas Privadas de Emigrantes a Indias 1540-1616" by Otte Enrique. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My DNA results are back!

This was done thru Ancestry.com and I'm sort of confused.

**Brit: 34% (father's side)
**East Asian: 17% (Huh?)
**Scandinavian: 11% (Huh? I've read elsewhere that so many people are coming up with Scandinavian results that some wonder if there's a mistake happening on ancestry.com.)
**South Asian (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh): 10% (Huh?)
**Native North American: 8% (No surprise, as I'm Mexican. Just thought it might be higher.)
**Southern Europe: 7% (Again, as a Mexican, I would expect Spanish blood, I just thought it might be more.)
**Native South American: 6% (Huh?)
**Uncertain: 7%

Questions:
Do Native Americans ever/often come up with Asian results, (since they migrated from Asia)?

Could South Asian be gypsies from Spain?

I'm not sure where the Native South American comes from. Do many Mexicans come up with this? Is this DNA from Natives who were in Mexico and continued on south?

I'm also curious if many Latinos ever come up with Middle Eastern results, since the Moors were in Spain for so long.

I know very little about all this, and I know to take it with a "grain of salt" so to speak. (But I am pretty excited!)

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks,
Laura Gonzalez

confirmaciones gap in aguas. aguas. sagrario records

Hi

I have been looking at confirmations in Aguas. Aguas Sagrario. I have found the following:

image 100 = first page for nov 1797
image 120 = firste page for nov 1798
image 124 = first page for march 1822
image 136 end of book, signed and dated 31 Dec 1823.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11855-59365-53?cc=1410092&… This is a link to image 136, if anyone is curious enough to look.... :)

I am actually looking for confirmations between 1808 - 1812. There is a big gap there between 1798 and 1822.
Is it the case that the records noted in 1822/23 cover the period since 1798, or is the info just in another book somewhere?

Seeking information on Grandparents in State of Jalisco, area of Los Altos

Hello! My name is Ann Marie Gutierrez and I am seeking info on my grandparents and great-grandparents whom I believe where from the area of Los Altos de Jalisco. Specifically around San Diego de Alejandria, San Julian, Purissima or what one individual called, "Los Llanos," de Jalisco. My Grandfather's name: Exiquio or Ezequiel Gutierrez, b. 1869; married Maria Teresa Gomez or Guerrero, b. 1871 were married around 1886? Children of that marriage were: Ricardo b.1903; 2) Franciso, b. 1907; 3) Jose, b. 1909; 4) Maria Socorro, b 12 July 1912. Of course, these are approximate dates since I have not found any documents for them. I would appreciate any assistance I can get on suggestions how to start my search or if anyone is familiar with that area, perhaps they would assist in letting me know what is the name of any church (s) in that area. Was there a certain town that kept civil documents or info?--- any and all info would be welcome. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.

Locating an 18th century padron for Mezquital del Oro, Zac.

Does anyone know where I could find a padron from the late 1700s listing the inhabitants of Mezquital del Oro, Zacatecas? Specifically, a rancho named El Temascal. I have looked a bit in certain areas of 'Padrones 1772-1784 Arzobispado de Guadalajara', but cannot find anything for it. I'm aware it may have been named something different, but I am almost positive it would have the words 'real', 'del Oro', 'San Juan del Mezquital' or the like.

Does anyone know what jurisdiction modern Mezquital del Oro and nearby ranchos fell under in the 1700s? The closest padron listing I have found is of the community exactly to the North-West, which is currently called Garcia de la Cadena, but was then La Estanzuela. It seems to me that Mezquital del Oro or Real del Oro should be listed along with Estanzuela as its only a couple miles away and there is no closer town... but nothing.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Familia Villalobos Dávalos

Hello everyone,
I am trying to find info on Bernardo Villalobos and his first wife Juana Dávalos and their 11 children. My great-grandmother Hermelinda Villalobos Dávalos was born in Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco around 1860 and married in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco on 3 May 1877.
Bernardo Villalobos married a 2nd time and had another 11 children. I don't know anything else about the 2nd marriage.
I just realized I had written down the names Juan Villalobos and Altagracia Ibarra which I would have gotten from a cousin of my father. They are most likely the parents of Bernardo Villalobos.

Armando

Denise,

Thanks, that's pretty interesting.  I was thinking last night that the Scandinavian part might have been from the British Isles, since the Vikings were in parts of England and Ireland raping and pillaging.  I had no idea there were Scandinavian slaves in Spain; I will definitely read up on this.

Kristine,

If you're Mexican, the Southern European would be expected, even if you haven't found the source yet.  Native South American might be from waaaay back when they left some DNA in Mexico on their way to SA.  That's what I'm assuming with *my* Native South American results.

Ana,

Your Middle Eastern results are what I was wondering about when I asked if many Latinos come up with this.  It might come from Jews/Arabs being in Spain. I wonder how scientists differentiate between Jews and Palestinians tho.  Hmmmm...  I think the Maya is the part that makes you look Asian.

Errata.

After doing some "research" on the internet, I think my East Asian genes really indicate Native American (which is not totally uncommon), but then why don't they just show up as NA? I also figured and read that many think the South Asian is indeed Gypsy/Roma, which I'm guessing came by way of Spain.  I wish I could get my mother to take the test, so we could compare results (tho she's full Mexican).

One of my biggest surprises was how far back the testing went.  I'm really surprised by the whole East Asian & Scandinavian parts.  I guess there could've been some chinos in my family in Mexico or something, but somehow I don't think so.

Chinos in Mexico?  My father who was from Zacatecas said there were "chinos", but I found out that they were Filipinos brought in ships from the Philipine Islands.  The Philipines were part of King Philip of Spain's empire.

Ask one of the administrators to create a Family Tree in Gedcom for you.
Then after that is done, go to Gedcom section and down under the search engines, select "administration" and it'll bring you to the upload area and select the options that you want and upload your GEDCOM file from your computer.  Wait a few minutes then you'll see a bunch of computer symbols, and you're done!
