I am looking for the ancestors of Ana Macias Valadez. She married Miguel Romo de Vivar Villalobos on 28 February 1725 in Aguascalientes according to a form submitted by an LDS member batch 7411353 sheet 50 source call number 0935401. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=…
I can't find the record in the online images. Since Miguel Romo de Vivar Villalobos is a great grandson of Catarina Macias Valadez there could've been a dispensation for the marriage. Does anyone have information on her?

I have this copy of the Baptism of my great great granfather name "Patrico Madera" who was borin in Rancho Ximulco of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico and baptised in the Parroquia of San Diego de Alcala Church. I attached with it a cartoon as to what I imagine my great great grandfather looked like with the style of clothing worn back then (That is how I would dress). He has facial features of some of my present relatives and even me:

My great great grandfather Patricio Madera is the son of Juan Venancio Madera, "Espanol" of Rancho De Los Maderas - one of the several Ranchos in the vicinity of the pueblo of Huejuquilla. Juan was born around 1764 in Rancho De Los Maderas of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico and is the son of Francisco Madera of Rancho De Los Maderas.

Patrico had a son name Calixto Madera De La Paz who is my great grandfather.
From what I was told from a distant cousin that also likes geneology research, that our great great grandfather Patricio Madera wore a colonial triangular shaped hat. I don't know what the term is used for that type of hat. Do any of you know?

Leonardo Romo and Josefa Trinidad.

They are padrinos for a child of Manuel Romo and Maria Ygnacia Rodriguez, and I would very much like to see who the parents of Leonardo are.
Family search gives their marriage as follows:

There are lots of Raphael Romos in and around Aguascalientes, and I am still trying to find out which one was the father of Manuel Romo, resident of Nadadores/San Buenaventura, but originally from Aguascalientes, he was my direct ancestor. Finding out info about Leonardo may help....there were several with that name in Family Search, so I really need to see the image!

Does anyone know of any good books about the history of Zacatecas, either English or Spanish, but English preferred. I came across "The North Frontier of New Spain" by Peter Gerhard, but it's out of print and very expensive. I'm particularly interested in reading about families of Zacatecas.

There is a marriage entry for a Diego de Estrada who married Anttonia Velasco on 20 Oct 1692 in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, México.

Diego de Estrada's parents are not listed on this entry.

Anttonia Velasco's parents are listed as Diego Gomez and Mensia Velasco de Espexo.

So is Diego Gomez (de Espejo) & Mensia Ruiz de Velasco the same couple?

The seem to be the same couple; all the dates coincide; similar names; about the right age.

Can anyone help with this?

Also, if someone has info on Diego de Estrada I would greatly appreciate it. He is on my paternal line and I've hit a dead end on this one.

I discovered one of my relatives, Ana Dominga Martinez, daughter of Jose María Martinez and Dorotea Guerra,my 5th great grandparents, was born 04 Aug 1808, and baptized 09 Aug 18/08 (Nuetra Señora de la Asunción), in San Carlos, Nuevo León, MX. She was identified as "Parbula española". Can someone enlightened me as to what this term means? It is my first encounter.

Hello everyone! Just as I found out about the sixteenth-century patriarch of the García de Alba family a while back, I have also found the Ortega patriarch of that same century. For those of you who have Casilda de Ortega Maldonado or Catalina de Ortega Maldonado (both sisters) in your family trees, let me inform you that they are both descendants of Antonio de Ortega, encomendero and landowner of Colima. I found this out, because meanwhile scanning previews of "Ameca protofundación mexicana", I found this excerpt:

"En 1581 obtuvo del virrey conde de Coruña, en Ixtlanejo, un sitio para ganado mayor, don Antonio de Ortega; este poblador lo fue de verdad, pues fundó una vigorosa familia que mucho significaría en los siglos inmediatos, ligada a otras proceres, como fueron Maldonado, Topete, García de Alba, Arrióla y Villaseñor."

From "de Ortega", the surname would later evolve into "de Ortega Maldonado" thus creating the ancestral family of southern-central Jalisco.

With the help of Armando, I have identified my first connection back to Spain.
About 1759, Pedro de Choperena of Aranaz, Navarra, Spain married to Maria Bauptista de Yndart. Upon reaching Mexico, she gave birth to Juaquin Choperena born 1771 in Totatiche, Jalisco. Juaquin married Victoriana Martinez on 16 Sep 1801.

After much searching, I have finally found my 4th great grandfather's death registration in the Church records. That is the good news. The bad news is, though I have learned enough Spanish from reading the Baptismos, Defunciones, and matrimonials to fill in the dates, there are still some things I am unable to decipher and I need help.

Would someone please help me read the record for the death of Don Juachin Romero? It is listed in the Mexico, Jalisco, Catholic Church records for 1590-1995. The city isTepatitlan de Morelos, the church is San Francisco de Asis, Defunciones 1780-1800. The image is 162 of 511. It is number 1622 on the page. The writing is clear, the abbreviations maddening, and I don't understand the references to Cuadrillero and Tambardillo. I believe they mean police and a type of medicine but I can't figure out the context.

If someone will take a peek and let me know what it actually says, I will be most grateful.

I checked Family Search for all the Villalpandos/Vialpandos listed for Spain and they all originated in Valladolid, not in Cadiz. The only entry for a Vialpando for Cadiz is one submitted by someone in New Mexico, and not from an official baptism record. So, I think they mistook Jerez de la Frontera for Jerez, Zacatecas.

I did see a tree submitted to Family Search by someone in NM that listed a Juan Vialpando's (married to a Romero) birthplace as "Villa de Leon", not Villa de Conil. Is that Juan your ancestor? What other document do you have?

I did not find a Villa de Leon in Zacatecas. Leon is in Guanajuato, and on the Family Search list there are dozens of Vialpando/Villalpando there starting in the early 1600s. It looks like the first Vialpandos in Mexico arrived in the early 1600s in Mexico City (Mexico State) and moved to Puebla, next to Mexico state, then moved up north to the states of Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and Jalisco. There are a few listed for Durango and Zacatecas, but not too many. I don't see them listed for any other states, except New Mexico.

My husband's Villalpandos were from Aguascalientes and Jalisco in the 1600s, and the state of Guanajuato is right next door, to the east. The city of Leon (villa de Leon) is close to other major cities of Jalisco and to the west and north is Aguascalientes. Farther to the west is Zacatecas.

Maybe way, way back your Vialpando lines are connected to my husband's Villalpandos.

I don't know the names of your Vialpandos so I couldn't look for them in the records for Leon, Guanajuato or Jerez, Zacatecas.

I have found a marriage dispensation from 1796 for
Jose Raphael Romo,Puesto de Sausillo, age 27,son of Antonio Romo and Mariana de Alba:

in which the pretenza is
Maria Olaya (Olalla) Gutierrez, Puesto de el Tigere (?), age 16, daughter of Manuel Gutierrez (deceased by the time the dispensa was written)and Maria de Alba.

Maria de Alba and Mariana de Alba have common GG grandparents:
Alonso de Alba and Xasinta Ximenez.

There is no mention of a previous marriage for this particular Jose Raphael Romo (who may or may not have married Maria Casilda Rafaela Aguilar Chavez).

There were two Jose Raphael Romos born to Antonio Romo (died 1776) and Mariana de Alba:
Jose Raphel Prudencio Romo (chr. 1765) and Jose Raphael Silvestre Romo (chr 1767)

There is no mention of the names Silvestre or Prudencio in the dispensa, but due to the age given, it is more likely Silvestre who was christened in dec. of 1767.

I am wondering: Has anyone found the name Jose Raphael Prudencio Romo on a document after 1765? anything - padrino, witness, etc?

I have looked for the marriage itself (Raphael and Olaya)in the marriage records for Rincon de Romos for 1796 but did not find it. Still looking...now in 1797...

Yes, I have also come across this situation. My g-g-g-grandmother was born
in Pinos, Zacatecas. Her surname was Felipa Hernandez. Her parents were
José Obispo Hernandez and María Encarnación Montalvo. Her baptismal record
gives all these names. Her first husband was Felipe Vasquez. They married
in Catorce, San Luis Potosí. Their marriage record gives her name as
Felipa Hernandez. They had three children, all born in Catorce. The
baptismal records of all three of their children give Felipa’s surname as
Hernandez. The grandparents’ names are given correctly. Felipe died and
Felipa remarried to Catarino Martinez. Their marriage record (in Catorce)
gives her name as Felipa Hernandez, widow of Felipe Vasquez. Catarino and
Felipa had six children, all born in Catorce. On each of their baptismal
records, their mother is listed as either Felipa Lopez or Felipa Montalvo
(her mother’s name). The grandparents are listed as José Obispo Lopez and
María Encarnación Montalbo. So, why did Felipa (and her father, Obispo)
change their names to Lopez? I’m really puzzled! Any ideas, anyone?

I have come across an interesting situation with one branch of my family the baptism record and marriage record show my 2nd great grandmother as Maria Matilde Medel (born 1833 in San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico) with her parents as Ygnacio Medel and Maria Pabla De Los Dolores Almaguer and her husband as Bernardo Reynoso.

When I was checking the baptism records of their children some of the actual records have Matilde's and her father's and grandfather's last name as Lampon.

Three questions, has anyone else come across situations like this and why would they use different last names in records and the third question does anyone have any information on the Lampon family in Los Altos area?

I was just wondering if there is a particular database, resource, etc to find pictures or images. To match the name with a face of some kind? Does anyone know if a fruitful online resource for finding pictures or images for these ancestors? I have found many passport photos through the family search weblinks, but I am looking for a significant online newspaper archive. Somewhere I might place the names of ancestors with their image, work history, or other story. It seems that some of my line goes back many, many generations in Guadalajara, Encarnacion de Diaz and the surrounding towns so this area is of special interest to me.

My family is from the Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico region. There are several old Haciendas in our area.

Such as Hacienda San Mateo of Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico and Hacienda San Antonio De Padua.

I would like to know if anyone has seen any old paintings of Haciendas of our area when they were in their glory days?

Because now they are in ruins, but I wonder they must have looked like when they were in they glory days. I wish some artist would draw paintings as to what they must have look like.
