Mis ancestros de los Altos.

Steven,

How exciting that you found this information and that it's a possibility that you may have made a connection with your ancestral tribe.

I feel happy for you and a little envy that you have come so far and that you may have Otomi blood lines. Have you by chance done the DNA study on anyone in your family? That would be interesting to see where it takes you.

Problem

I would like to thank the people who took the time to answer my plea
for help. I believe I found a solution to the problem, thanks to
Aajay
suggestions. I was able to export the file with the ".ged" file
extension. When I imported it back, it went to my Ancestry Family
Tree program which also resides on the same drive.

I went back to the PAF program and was not sucessful in my attempts
to
start a new file. It looks like the program itself went belly-up.

I don't have a disk for the PAF program. It was downloaded from the
LDS web site.(for free) I am not sure whether I want to use that
program again or to stick with the old one (AFT).

Thank you again everybody.

Thank you Joseph.

Find the .paf file by doing a search for the name. Right click on the
file and choose properties. Uncheck "read only".

I need some help. Do you know if there is anybody out there who is
using the LDS program: PAF 5.2 who might be able to help me with a
problem?

Here's the problem: I was trying to make some changes to my Windows
XP program, but the changes didn't work. I had to reboot my computer
in "Safe Mode" and ran the restore program. Everything started
working again, except for the PAF program.
I can bring it up but it comes up as a "read only" program. I can
view all of my data, I can print it out, but it is not allowing me to
make changes to it or enter new data. I think the computer recovered
the PAF program from the back-up file that was probably "write

Jurisdictions for Garcia-Cervantes

Joseph,

You asked me for a list of places in Jalisco, etc where my research for Garcia-Cervantes has led me:

Besides Encarnacion de Diaz and Lagos de Moreno in Jalisco, I see mention of a Santa Maria (jurisdicacion), Jalostotitlan [Jalisco] Teocaltiche [ditto], Tlaltamango [Puebla?], Canada de Agusin, [?]Jesus Maria in Aguascalientes, Rincon de Romos [Aguascalientes], Ciudad Aguascalientes, Hacienda de Santiago [Aguascalientes], Puerto del Marquez [Aguascalientes], Real de Asientos [ditto] Hacienda de Pavellon [ditto], Puesto de Maguli [ditto].

I am having a hard time, and have had when I was reading the messages on the Jerezano group on MSN, understanding why people kept talking about what Ranchos they were from.  My father never talked about being from any rancho, just from the pueblos of Jerez or Tepetongo.  I guess you or your parents have to be from there recently in order to understand.  My father and my husband's great-grandfather left Mexico more than 100 years ago, and

PAF Help Needed!!!

John,

It sounds like your genealogy file might be set to read-only. If you
open up My Computer (or Windows Explorer) look in the folder where
you have your genealogy file stored. The file will have a .PAF
extension. Right-click on the file, select properties and see if the
attribute read-only at the bottom is checked. If it is, then uncheck
it and click OK. That should reset your genealogy database to
read/write. It doesn't sound like the PAF program is the culprit,
but your genealogy database is. To test my theory you could create a
brand new genealogy database and see if you can read and write to
it. If you can, then my theory is correct. If not, email and I'll
help you troubleshoot it.

Spanish Language Characters

There is an easier way to do Spanish Language characters on the computer (instead of remembering 3-digit numbers for each character).  I got the following from someone called "Jerezano" at MexConnect.com.

Click on MY COMPUTER, CONTROL PANEL, KEYBOARD, LANGUAGE (Make sure you are on English (United States).    Choose and click on PROPERTIES.  On the Keyboard dialog that comes up, click on the down arrow for KEYBOARD LAYOUT.  Look for and choose UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL. Then click OK on each succeeding box as it comes up and back out to the Desktop.

You will then be ready to type your Spansh characters (accents, tildes, etc.)  Hold down the ALT that is to the right of the space bar and at the same time hit your key:  Press the right ALT and hold it while hitting a,e, i, o, u, n, etc.

One warning:  Your type font needs to have the accented characters.  Korinthia is a good one.  To check this, go to Character Map, select the font you normally use and check to make sure it has

John---

It looks like you need to re-install the PAF program.  Only your PAF data files were saved, no?  Do you have the disks so you can re-install PAF?  When I ran a restore program on my computer, it wiped out PAF, screen savers, --- everything that had not been installed at the factory.  I didn't have room for the PAF which I had installed after I got the computer.  I had to re-install my printer, mouse, scanner, etc.   Everything else (encyclopedia, Photoshop, etc. was gone in order to give me enough memory so that it didn't take hours to download websites, etc.

about this rancho. On the Lagos de Moreno official website, I

Escribir en Español/Writing in Spanish

Hi Alicia:

I am glad to see that someone else is iterested
in writing Spanish correctly.  Your spanish sounds and looks
perfect! I don't see anything wrong with it.  It isn't easy, Spanish
is a very difficult language specially when it comes to conjugating verbs.
I don't consider myself an expert.
I had most of my schooling here, in
California, and never had a formal class in Spanish. I did live in Guaymas,
Sonora, Mexico for 10 years and had the opportunity to learn by osmosis and
immersion.  I came from a family where Spanish was spoken every day.
My parents insisted that we learn the proper use and not to fall for the
"Spanglish" that we encounter everyday.  We are attempting the same
with our grankids but it is an uphill battle...

There is a web site that I sometimes use whenever
I have a problem with a word: http://tradu.scig.uniovi.es/conjuga.html
It is a web site for the Diccionario de
Español.  It is  provided by the  University of Oviedo, in Spain.
