Family History Center microfilm cost

Hi group--

I have just returned from my local Family History Center.  Today the director told me that he has been informed of a price increase for the ordering of films.  The cost will go up to $5.75 per film to order the first time, and for each renewal after that will cost $5.75, until the film becomes indefinite.  The price change goes into effect on January 15th, so if you have any films to order, or if you need to renew films, do so soon.

I personally renewed my films to make them indefinite.  I just wanted to let you know so you can take care of any films you may have or that you wish to order.

Alicia,

I just stumbled upon it by accident. I was searching for something
else using Google and it came up in my search results. Yes, I
thought it was encouraging to know that something is being done to
preserve our history.

what a cool cool story. . . .so is "hmmm" an abbreviation for
the name as in:

HERMENEGILDO

Portuguese [note: does this name also work in the feminine form?]

Spanish and Portuguese form of a Gothic name which meant "complete
sacrifice" from Germanic ermen "whole, entire" and gild

HERMINIA

Spanish feminine form of HERMINIUS

Roman name which was possibly of unknown Etruscan origin, but could
also be derived from the name of the god HERMES.
In Roman legend this was the name of a companion of Aeneas.

Odd names[ranchos]

The legend with my name is; my mother gave me a name which upon hearing, my teenage brother said "It is a "helluva" name, lets call her Helyn." When I was about eleven years of age, my mother went to the court house, and for $1.50 had my name legally changed as I had been using the new name in school.
The old name is now a family secret....hmmm

Alberto,

See http://www.hispanicmagazine.com/2000/mar/Letters/ and http://
hugetinymistake.blogspot.com/ for comments on Ted Williams' parents.

See http://www.snopes.com/disney/waltdisn/illegit.htm and http://www.neta.com/
~1stbooks/disney.htm and http://www.guardian.co.uk/friday_review/story/
0,3605,608815,00.html for Walt Disney's parents. I am not sure the evidence is solid for
Disney for him being Hispanic; he does have a good history for bigotry and alcoholism
however.

Maria,

What a great project, how did you find it or hear of it? It is encouraging to know that Mexico knows it's treasures and has the desire and wherewithal to preserve them.

This is a group in Mexico City that was formed to preserve the
Historical Archives and Libraries of Mexico.  Organizations are sent an
invitation to petition for project funding.  They are required to
complete the project or return the funds to Adabi.  The projects range
from $5,000 pesos to 12,500 pesos (that's
roughtly $500-$1,200 US) per
project.  One project in Durango was to scan, catalog and create a
database.  ADABI donated the scanner, the computer and a desk.  The
recipient committed to completing the project within 10 months.  They
show other projects where old maps have been restored, etc.

The information on Walt Disney I got from a magazine
that I once subscribed to called "Hispanic". But I
never did check out their source.

Also, the baseball player's name was Ted Williams.

Happy New Year!!

The new year seems like a perfect time to introduce a few changes.

With that in mind, let me point out them out.

CUENTOS. Cuentos will include little personal memories reflective of
both the times and Hispanic/Latino culture.  Perfect place to send that
funny family story.

MILITARY HEROES and RESEARCH.  Military heroes will include post
colonial articles.  Even if they appear in different parts of Somos
Primos, they will be identified to facilitate scanning articles.
