What happened to all the old dialog we use to have in the Yahoo Group? What is going on with the groups quietness?

In my research, I have found that I share common ancestors with El Santo Mateo Correra Magallanas. With gratitude to Kitty & Rich Cortez, I now have a copy of El Santos baptismal record, and a copy of his signature when he was a priest, and baptizing in his parish.
Also from this line, one of the Magallanas daughters married a Robles, which was the beginning of my Robles line. I also have another line of Magallanas, which I have not been able to tie with the above mentioned line.
On my maternal side, I now have found 134 grandparents. One of which was listed as "se ignora" on her grandchild's baptismal, around 1820. Very interesting...
Another grandmother was listed as 70 years of age in 1753, and listed as a "partera". And the research continues~~~

My heart skipped a beat when I read what you had posted about "El Santo Mateo Correra Magallanas." Is it possible that "Correra," is actually "Corvera/Corbera?"
I was working on trying to figure out the following:
Cesarea Corvera Magallanes, b. 27 Aug 1856; bapt 28 Aug 1856, birth place : Rancho de San Juan. Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zac. Cesarea daughter of Manuel Corvera y Jesus Magallanes. Manuel son of Trinidad Corvera y Petra Marquez. Jesus daughter of Antonio Magellanes y Jesus Gonsales. I found a marriage record for a Manuel Corbera y Jesus Magallanes 7 Feb 1875 Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zac. Their marriage is years after the dates listed above. I'm finding this same situation in another line ( Serrano y Salamanca), strangely 7 Feb is also their marriage date, but in the year of 1877..
RVI Batch - C607137
IGI Batch - M607146.
IGI Batch - C026070 is listed as a batch number, but no other information is given, as to the film # and dates, etc....
A rather interesting research day for me.
I'm coming away with more questions than answers on the Corbera/Corvera; Serrano/Salamanca/Gonzalez ancestry.

The surname is actually spelled 'Correa.' Sometimes I have seen the surname spelled with one 'r', 'Corea'; or with an 's', 'Correas'; but I have never seen it spelled 'Correra' or 'Corbera'. BUT...i guess it is possible...just not my experience...

Thank you Angie, In the 41 years that I've been a Corbera, I've seen it spelled a few different ways even as "Cobra." Guess it's just an easy name to mis-spell. I'm going to focus on Serrano and Salmanca, and put "Corbera," on the "back burner," for now. Pat

I want to aplogize ahead of time for jumping in and not quite
understanding the context. . .aren't you talking about two different
surnames? For example both names are listed in the:
Index to the Enciclopedia Heráldica Hispano-Americana of Alberto and
Arturo García Carraffa

No problem Joseph, you can "jump in, " any time... While surfing Ranchos I came across a posting that mentioned "El Santo Mateo Correra Magallanas." I thought that maybe "Correra," could have been a typo error for Corbera. is a combo surname that I had come across for a Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zac. family of Manuel Corvera y Jesus Magallanes, in the time frame that I was researching.
Thank you for sharing your family pictures. The 7 Dwarfs cartoon in Spanish was so funny, both Tino and I enjoyed a good laugh... thank you!

Thank you Angie, for all your help and added information. Spoke with one of my husband's cousins today, and she has given me a good lead, to another cousin, that has connections in Momax to the Corbera family history from that area.

Maybe the focal point was You Helyn and now that you are back the group
will take a giant upswing in conversation. Keep talking we're listening!
for example your fabulous success in your research is very inspiring.
A couple of things can you explain whay you mean by "patera" my Spanish
fails me what is that and what does it mean?

Thank you for your input. We did not mean to make this setup any more formal than the last one. The mailing lists work just the same, so please contribute as you see fit.
As far as my research... I have taken some time off trying to find new information and have begun to more formally compile the information that I have. I have begun writing a book on the historical ethnography of the Totatiche area along with my father's genealogy.
Esteban Valdes Salazar, the local historian in Totatiche is currently writing a book on the Pinedos and Ortegas of Totatiche so I am waiting for that before I go further on my mother's genealogy since she is both a Pinedo and an Ortega.
As part of my formal compilation I have begun taking systematic scans of documents in my databases film by film. I am able to scan directly to a JPEG file and the quality is amazing. I then adjust the contrast and brightness, clean them up a bit and upload them. It works great as a filing system.

"partera" translates as midwife. In these pueblos there were obviously no doctors so births were attended to by women who had learned the art of aiding in childbirth through their mothers, aunts, etc. who had performed the same function.
Interesting tidbit, as I was reading through the Luz Montejano's Guadalajara dispensations book I ran across a couple of dispensations where midwife's were called in as expert witnesses to attest to women's virginity in cases of questionable fidelity (i.e. the woman was accused of having had relations with a sibling or father of the pretenso)
