Hola to all my Rancho's Primos
I am trying to get as much information about publishing one line of my family,
The SAAVEDRA/BALTAZAR line of Durango, Chihuahua & Texas. My question to the group is where do I start, what should I include. Any tips from our group would be welcomed! Sources, examples, sites or any personal experiences -seran bien recibidas. I read in a book that "Ir's not history until it's written" so I do want to write and print & share my work with my familia.

PUBLISHING FAMILY HISTORY BOOK
well others will give the meaty part of what to include, but what an
honor it would be to have an oral history story printed in the book from
4 or 5 of your currently living relatives. What an honor it would be for
them to know that their words will be included in the words that many
future geneations will read.
just like we think its special just to find names of our ggggg relatives
how much more special would it be in xxxxxxxx generations from now to
find some of their stories of what it was like xxx generations back.

Publishing a book
Yolanda, I am in the midst of doing the same thing. I imagine it will be an ongoing project with other editions that will have to be published in the future...
I am using lulu to do the publishing.
http://www.lulu.com
I got a lot of good tips from here:
http://genealogy.about.com/od/writing_family_history/a/write.htm
I am using a graphing software for diagrams called Genopro. I can send you some samples if you like.
I have also just bought the PAF companion software which does some nifty color graphs... though color is not very useful when printing a black and white book.
Publishing a book
Arturo & Joseph
The site "About genealogy" has some good suggestions. I especially want to include a scrapbook/album and memoir/narrative in the book. Joseph's idea of including some family stories is a wonderful idea. My mother is 76 and has the best stories about our family. As a matter of fact I recorded her as we looked at a book about Smeltertown here in El Paso. Her memory and gift of detail is incredible. So this will be one of the stories to include in my book. GREAT idea Joseph
Keep them coming GRACIAS

Yolanda,
I am interested in that book you mention about Smeltertown. What is the title, author, publisher, etc.?

Publishing a book
Emile,
This book is written by a local historian Fred Morales. He does all the research, writing, printing and publishing. He even delivers the book to your home here in town. The book costs about $30 and is a spiral bound. It also includes a variety of topics ASARCO, ANAPRA, SUNLAND PARK, MT. CRISTO REY, EL PASO BRICK, SP & EP & SW RAILROADS AND OTHERS. He also has books on Segundo Barrio, History of Downtown El Paso, History of Cordova Island, History of the Mexican Revolution vol 1 & 2 and Mexican Revolution Trail of El Paso and Juarez. He also runs the El Paso/Jjuarez Historical Museum at 6400 Airport Rd. El Paso, Tx. 79925 You can contact him at (915) 771-6727 Fred,s books always have wonderful pictures, many that have not been seen before. Leon Mets another local author calls him the best local historian. He loves to give presentations at local libraries on a variety of topics and he sets up displays aswell. He is a GEM!
Joseph you might think about contacting him about a podcast.
All for now, hope this helps
