Hello everyone, I need help by locating the records on Mixtlan, Jalisco before 1898. In familysearch Mixtlan's rcords begin on that year. My question is: does anyone know where the pervous records are? Where to look at? The closest towns that I can figure out are Atengo, Atenguillo, Talpa de Allende, Mascota or Ameca. To which parrish Mixtlan reported before 1898? I am having a har time locating an ancestor that may be in Mixtlan abt. 1875 Any help prived would be very apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also check Guachinango, I have found quite a few relatives there and have seen the surname Curiel from Mixtlan there.

Help needed on records--Mixtlan
Hi primo, I hope you are doing ok. I read your message and I think I have a partial answer to that. I don't have ancestors in Mixtlan, but I do have some Curieles from Atenguillo, and I remember reading "Mixtlan" several times on baptisms records from Atenguillo.
On my research, at one point I had the same problem that you encountered. I was looking the baptism of my 2nd great grandfather Ygnacio Curiel Diaz circa 1857, but the Atenguillo records begin on 1865. I started looking at other parishes, and luckily, I found him in the church records of Mascota, Jalisco. It seems that prior to 1865, Atenguillo residents went to this church, and yes, I remember reading "Mixtlan" in those books as well. My suggestion is for you to look on both Atenguillo and Mascota. I'm sure you'll find your ancestor there.
