I had posted the following on February 24, 2012 -
"I also descend from Espitia/Aspitia. I finally understand why my ancestors
used so many surnames. Nicolás Macias Espitia and Ana Muñoz had children in
Lagos de Moreno between 1645 and 1664. Sometimes they used the surname
Torres. After looking at records in Aguascalientes I see Hernando de Torres
Espitia married Juana Vásquez Macias alias Juana Vásquez de Retamosa 11 Jan
1615 in Aguascalientes film 299421. This makes me think that my ancestor
was their son Nicolás Torres Vásquez baptized 2 May 1622 film 299421."
The following is an email I had sitting in my drafts for more than a year
but edited today -
I have been looking at the marriage record of Hernando de Torres and Juana
Vasquez Macias, alias Juana Vásquez de Retamosa, and the baptisms of their
children. Most of the padrinos and testigos are from the Macías Valadez
family and the Ramirez de Tavera y de la Torre family. This makes me think
the father of Juana Vásquez Macias was the Felipe Macias Valadez that
married María Tavera, the daughter of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and
Apolonia de la Torre, on 1 July 1618. Since Juana married in 1615 it means
that the mother of Juana was someone other than María Tavera. However it
seems the Ramírez de Tavera y de la Torre family
For the wedding Francisco Macías, who I believe to be was the husband of
Jacinta de Ortega and many think to be the son of Alonso Macías Valadez and
María de Retamosa, as a testigo. For the velación the padrinos were Gaspar
Macías and Mariana Torres, the daughter of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and
Apolonia de la Torre and sister of María Tavera. (Gaspar Macías is thought
to be a son of Alonso Macías Valadez and María de Retamosa. In which case
he would be a brother of Felipe Macías Valadez the husband of María Tavera)

For the baptism of Magdalena Torres Vásquez de Retamosa the padrinos were
Diego [Alonso] Ramírez [del Pedroso y Hermosillo] y su hermana (in reality
they were cuñados) Francisca de Torres (another daughter of Nicolás Ramirez
de Tavera and Apolonia de la Torre and sister of María Tavera)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-51657-98?cc=1410092&…
For the baptism of Juan de Torres Macías the padrino was Antonio Tavera a
son of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and Apolonia de la Torre and brother of
María Tavera.

Therefore, I believe, the padrinos of the baptisms of these children were
in a sense great uncles since their sister or sister in law had married,
who I think to be the grandfather of the children, Felipe Macias Valadez y
Vásquez de Retamosa the son of Alonso Macías Valdez and María Vásquez de
Retamosa. Also note that the wife of Hernando de Torres Espitia used both
the Macias surname as well as the Vásquez and Retamosa surnames meaning
that it is extremely likely that she descends from Alonso Macías Valadez
and María Vásquez de Retamosa meaning her father was probably their son and
since her father was named Felipe Macías Valadez and he was a son of Alonso
Macías Valadez and María Vásquez de Retamosa they should be the same person
and with the Ramírez de Tavera y de la Torre having been padrinos this
makes it even more believable.

Hernando de Torres Espitia y
This is to add what was left out of the second paragraph -
However, it seems the Ramírez de Tavera y de la Torre family was willing to baptize the children of the step child of María Tavera.
