In the chapter of Gallegos in Retornos de Espana de la Nueva Galicia by Mariano Gonzalez Leal states that he could not find how Juan de Escobar and Beatriz de Gallegos gave rise to the name their son Hernando Martel took but that his son (no wife mentioned took the name Hernando Gallegos. There is mentioned that "los Gallegos mas antiquos extendidos en la region probably are descendants of of Hernando de Martel Alcade de Teocaltiche.

Has anyone found such proof or more information. He said the oldest families of Gallegos lived in Nochistlan since XVII

Mariano Gonzales Leal starts his research of a disconnected Gallegos with the family of Pedro Gonzales y Maria de Frias who had 3 children: Juana Martel married in Aguascalientes, 19 September 1813 to Miguel Sierra; Beatriz Gallegos (buried 4 Oct 1643 in Aguascalientes) married to Luis Gonzales; and Hernando Martel married 22 Oct 1634 in Aguascalientes, with Beatriz Retamosa or Villegas.

Hi Simona,

There isn't proof for a lot regarding this family, but, other than the Alcalde, Hernando de Martel being the son of Juan de Escobar and Beatriz de Gallegos, some of what you posted is definitely incorrect.

I actually descend from the Hernando Martel married to Beatriz de Villegas, daughter of Pedro Macías Valadez and Luisa de Villegas. This particular Hernando Martel is not the son of Pedro Gonzalez and Maria de Frias, he's actually the son of Luis Gonzalez and Beatriz Gallegos. His mother Beatriz Gallegos is also not the daughter of Pedro Gonzalez, actually, no one you mentioned is the child of Pedro Gonzalez, though, Pedro Gonzalez's wife, Maria de Frias is the mother of the Juana Martel you mentioned, through her first husband, Hernando Gallegos aka Hernando Martel. The Hernando Gallegos/Martel married to Maria de Frias is probably the son of the Alcalde, Hernando Martel, and probably, the brother of the Beatriz Gallegos that's married to Luis Gonzales.

Thank you. I at least know a little bit more of what happen to Martel's children, but I still need to find how and why his name is Martel. It will be by a miracle as Mariano Gonzalez Leal looked for it along with other genealogists/writers on the topic with access to much more than I do right now.

7th great grandfather, Juan Gallegos de Cabrera married to Petra Marmolejo.

I posted a question hoping for guidance. The question was based on information, some would say is an authority on the subject: Mariano Gonzalez Leal "Retornos de Espana en la Nueva Galicia," whom also mentions another name Don Jose Luis Vasquez y Rodriguez de Frias "Genealogist de Nochistlan that states Pedro Gonzalez married Maria de Frias. So what I understand the information is incorrect? Please enlighten me with the facts.

Of course the material written was based on what was available to them at the time although it would seem from original sources.

Also, when I posted this message I noticed that it did not go out to everyone or I would have received a message. I have been on the alert to a response and saw none. I checked it twice a day since posting. I do regret I did not answer sooner to those who left a message. Thanks for your help.

Hi Simona, The part about Pedro Gonzalez being married to Maria de Frias is correct. But, Maria de Frias was married also to Hernando Gallegos/Martel. That's where the Martel in Juana Martel comes from.    

Regarding the books cited, they are the authority, but most genealogical books are going to have some errors. We've had numerous discussions in the forum regarding some of those errors. Unfortunately, that's just the way it is.

Also, I'm actually not familiar with Juan Gallegos de Cabrera, who is he the son of?

I do not know who Juan de Gallegos de Cabrera (MGM-N78 Familysearch.org)married to Petra Marmolejo MGM2-N7G(Guanajuato) Parents are of yet but his children
1. Pasquala Gallegos de Cabrera Marmolejo marries Joseph Eusebio Delgado

2. Antonio Gallegos de Cabrera Marmolejo marries Maria Rodriguez

I have not been able to find anymore information on them other these two children. He may have married before or after or they have additional names. Still looking. Thank you kindly for the help
