Colotlan 1785 Census

Alicia,

A section of what I'm transcribing contains also just text and I plan
to create a separate text file for that. Excel is not very well
suited for that and besides if we add all the text into one of the
columns then we won't be able to manipulate the data as data.

About the Recto and Verso it simply refers to the front and back of
each sheet. We have to use those numbers instead of the numbers that
are inscribed in the document itself because with the Recto-Verso
numbers we can go back and locate any specific piece of information
that we need to verify.

Colotlan 1785 Census

Arturo,

I have created an account in the Archivos Españoles Red and opened up the Colotlan 1785 document but I need to clarify what or where exactly I begin. I opened up to the first entry for 111 where you requested that I begin. On the left hand side it has a sequential numerical column which states either "recto''  or ''verso''. Is this of any particular significance to you or to the document. Does recto mean it should be in Excel format and verso mean Word format or am I reading too much into this.

I opened up to Recto 111 but on the actual document on the upper right hand side it shows number ''110'' rather than 111 and it appears to be mostly text and not names or data. Is this where I should proceed? and should I proceed to transcribe in a Word format? I would actually prefer to do the text only as I am proficient in Word but not as experienced in Excel.

Thanks for your help, Alicia Avelar de Carrillo.......San Jose, Ca

2006 SLC Hispanic genealogy conference

Hi
All!

I heard from Ruth
Gomez Schirmacher, Salt Lake City Family History Library, today and she advises
me that the Hispanic genealogy conference will be held
"Next year it will be the second weekend of
Oct"........that is an official quote from her
e-mail to me!   :-)     So........that would make
it on Saturday, October 14, 2006.  I know that it is still quite early but
now you have a firm date that you can make your plans around  for our
"unofficial reunion in SLC"........I have prepared a list of those who have
expressed an interest in going (no obligation at this time) and as I receive
more information regarding the details of the conference I will pass this on to
the group so everyone can decide if they want to participate.  Please feel
free to post any questions you may have regarding this and I will try to answer
or find someone who can provide the information.

I am already packing
my bags!!!   :-)

In the message you sent to Ranchos on July 14, you didn't give your name or
location, so I can't address you by name.

I have a question re the Google Earth program you use.  Do you have a
fast Broadband?  What is verizon.net?  Do you have a wireless
connection where you are?  Do you have a wireless connection?  I see
the commercials for verizon wireless on TV.  My car has a verizon satellite
phone (OnStar).  I wonder if verizon.net for computers is available in my
area.

Thanks for the info,

I have uploaded the first three pages of my section so that you can

Joseph... if you think we should move this to Ranchos2, please go
ahead and do so and just let us know.

I'm not going to have time. if you have time can you do it? if not I'll
eventually get to it. but in the mean time anything new that gets put
in should go into a new folder in Ranchos2. the Ranchos1 files area is
way to close for comfort. I'll eventually need to move the 4-5
volunteers and free up some space there.

I have created a folder in the files section for Ranchos that has
instructions on how to do the transcription of the Colotlan

Census.

It is at the end of member genealogy folders.

Joseph has volunteered to take pages 90

PC Excell: [ranchos] 1785

you need to have a PC with the Excell program.

Mexican Border

An excerpt from the Whitewashed Adobe book in the general tone of
what I think you are referencing:

The Mexican race now see, in the fate of the aborigines of the north,
their own inevitable destiny. They must amalgamante and be lost, in
the superior vigor of the Anglo-Saxon race, or they must utterly
perish. They may postpone the hour for a time, but it will come,
when their nationallity shall cease.

Mexican Border

When I was in college back in the early '60s, I read a
number of old news articles that were written by a
California judge in the late 1800s about Mexicans and
they were very cruel. You could actually feel the
hatred he had for us even back at that time. After
the military take over by the Americans of California,
life must have been very hard for our people.

Freedom does have a price.
