Travel to Mexico

Hello Josie,

Good thinking and suggestion for Mary. Also, it goes without saying
to always be extra cautious when it comes to safety. If your going to
travel by land over there get yourself the company of a trusted friend
or relative that knows his way around; preferably don't drive by
night; keep a low profile in general.

Villarreal surname in the Archivo General de la Nacion

Esperanza,

Thanks for your feedback in this matter. Instead of discarding or
admitting any and all possibilities of those Villarreales in the AGN
documents below from being related to me, let me briefly describe what
is the current status of my research.

The first thing to clarify is an erroneous entry in Danny's page
regarding Diego de Villarreal's place of origin. It should say
Allende El Grande, Guanajuato, instead of Allende El Grande, Oaxaca.
That alone, assuming there's a document (yet to be found) to base that
affirmation, changes the whole perspective of the documents you quote.

As to the several Francisco de Villarreales (actually just two) that
could be related to Diego, one of them appears in old records (1570s -
1580s) from Saltillo, Coahuila, accompaning the colonizer Francisco de
Urdiñola. The other Francisco de Villarreal is quoted in the record
#314079 below. He was a "contador del Tribunal de Cuentas de la
ciudad de Mexico" in the early 1600s who had to do with

Trip to Jalisco, Zacatecas

Hello Again:

I hope to go to Tlaltenango next year.....some of my ancestors are from the area.  I was in Calvillo, Aguas. last year and was able to get info from the old books.....Valle de Huejacar, as it was called then....the books were old and falling apart;  they gave me an new copy; I had gotten a copy from the microfilm FHC....

Hi Victor,

I wish you were my mentor in a physical sense - I could watch you,
then you can watch me go....My Spanish isn't as good as yours, and I don't know
what to do with this information - but perhaps you do?  Since you told me
in absolute terms that Diego de Villarreal came with Zavala from Zacatecas, I
decided to do another research, and here is what I came up with ----perhaps
there is a connection here?  I also included something I found regarding a
Villarreal in Oaxaca (the area that Danny claims the Villarreales settled in)
and several Francisco Villarreales.  Let me know if any of this information
turns out to be fruitful.

This was fun, Now I am going to search on the Herrera's.....a line I have
from Tlaltenango....

Border Crossing Question

You can buy film from NARA and you can also have whatever the FHL has
available sent to your FHC. . .you might want to call the FHL in Salt
Lake and ask them how to find out what Border Crossing records they
have. Maybe you could do a report for the group and give us a
comprehensive list of the BC records they own that can be borrowed at
our local FHC's.

researching film at FHC

Hello,

When I do research, i do my research in two parts. First, I search the
IGI using batch numbers, marriage searches, parent searches, etc. In
order to Identify, who I will be looking for on the films. Then I
enter all the information that I have found that identifies the film,
such as town, film numbers, record type, time period, Batch number,
and if the film is in the FHL or in the vault. Then I enter all the
dates and names that I want from the film.

Here is a example: (**** Attn: Linda Romero **** this is what I
recommend for you, to research)

Esperanza,

When I first got interested in genealogy and stumbled across Danny
Villarreal's web site, I remember reading that most of the people with
the Villarreal surname had the same roots. I really found that a
little hard to believe at that time. Now that we have been digging up
information in old books and ancient manuscripts, etc. we've come up
with many more individuals from the XVI-XVII centuries with the same
surname, which indicates the existance of several lineages, as it is
reflected in the widespread presence of Villarreales all over Mexico.

As to the origin of our oldest (documented) ancestor for the northeast
Mexico Villarreals, it is recorded that Diego de Villarreal entered
the state of Nuevo León, from Zacatecas, with then governor Martín de
Zavala, in 1626. In spite of some information to the contrary
available on the internet, I don't know of any documented primary
source that records Diego de Villarreal parents and/or his family
origins. We have several leads

DIGEST

Joseph,

The only drawback, to the Digest mode. Is that, if someone uploads a
attachment, such as the message that Michael sent the other.

You will not get the attachments, if you receive the digest mode.
