Ancestry of Steven F. Hernández

Dear Ranchos group:

Well, here it is!  In order to keep Joseph from going postal on us, and to wish everyone out there Happy Holidays, I have uploaded the first 9 generations of my family tree, into the files section of the Newsgroup.  I think that should be enough for now.  If there is a particular interest, focus, or question about any specific line, then I'll post them as the occasion arises.

Some may notice a nice healthy mix of different, and sometimes unique, surnames from places all over Los Altos de Jalisco (Arandas, Atotonilco el Alto, Ayo el Chico, Tepatitlán, San Miguel el Alto, Zapotlanejo, San Juan de los Lagos, Jalostotitlán, Lagos de Moreno, Teocaltiche, etc.), Aguascalientes, Nochistlán (Zac.), Guanajuato, and Michoacán.  That's why, for better or for worse, I've had to diversify my research to cover a wide area.

I think it may be for the better, because that way I gain experience and knowledge researching in so many different places.  I am familiar with the

Surname Heraldry

I am getting ready to order some heraldry pages from the University of
Tennesse. Seems that they charge a flat rate for fotocopy services but
that rate is if they copy one page or 500. So if you all have any pages
you want copied give me your list of surnames [NOTE: Send them in Numeric
order like my list below; volume first page second], volumes and page numbers.

Here is the webpage where you can gain access to a search engine and get
that info from the Spanish Heraldry Dictionary:

http://genealogy.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/geneal/index%5Fgc.html
[long link that might need to be rebuilt]

Also look at the list of libraries that own the 88 volume set because
maybe you'd rather just look up the copies for yourself if you have one
of the libraries close to you.

here is the list of my requests. If you want to get any you'll have do
your own look ups and give me a similarly formatted list:

Exactly!!!! and yes I did start this group for more than just my own
genealogy. I sincerely think we as a group can accomplish more than as
individuals. All we need to do is keep an eye peeled for some of the
names of those researching our particular geographical areas in
Jalisco, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, BUT

yes the big BUT,

but how do we do that if we don't do the minimum of at least sending in
our genealogies so others can view them and try to make connections.
Yes I know I'm harping on this thing again but I want it to be
perfectly clear that I want us to become a finely honed research
machine and for that to be accomplished the bare minimun needs to be
done. . .come on folks about 50% of you haven't sent in your
genealogies. I would very much hate to delete your memberships, but be

Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, anyone?

Hi there,

Ooo, sounds like a lead.  But you know...I just barely broke through this dead-end, and don't have many details on their history.  Right now I basically know this:

1.    Ma. Celsa Alvarez, born April 1826, Zapotlanejo, md. 1844 to Antonio Hernández

Father
2.    Simón Alvarez, born 1803, Zapotlanejo, md. 1823 to Ma. Hermenegilda Regalado

Grandfather
3.    Pablo Alvarez, born ca 1768, Zapotlanejo, md. 1787 to María Anacleta (Cleta) Nuño

Great-grandfather
4.    Joseph María Alvarez, born 1725-1735, Zapotlanejo ???, md. ?? to María Alvarez

It is very possible that YOUR Nicolás Alvarez and my Alvarez people are descendants or members of the same Alvarez family based out of Zapotlanejo.  But to figure that out, we have to dig a little more.  And that's not going to be easy by the looks of it.

I have already ordered many early Zapotlanejo baptism and marriage microfilms, and the informations seems to be spotty, terrible writing in some cases, and NONE of the

Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, anyone?

Hola Paco,

It just so happens that I do have an Alvarez line from Zapotlanejo.
I haven't looked at any films from Zapotlanejo, but I have a
marriage record from Ixtlahuacán del Río for my twice 4th great-
grandmother Gertrudis Alvarez that says she was born in Zapotlanejo
and grew up in Tescatitán. Gertrudis was born about 1771 to parents
Nicolás Alvarez and María de la Ó Vizcarra. Let me know if we have a
link.

Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, anyone?

Hello Ranchos group;

For the past nine years, I had been researching a couple whose names first appeared in various baptisms in Arandas, Jalisco, from 1846 to 1862.  Arandas is the town where my grandfather, 2 great-grandfathers, 4 great-grand-fathers, and so on, were born.

The names were: Simón Alvarez and Ma. Hermenegilda Regalado, and their daughter Celsa Alvarez (for more info, see page 103 of my book).  For years and years and years their names haunted me like late-night heartburn or one of those N-sync songs you can't get out of your head, and wished you could.

I scoured the Arandas parish records for them.  I searched from 1845 back to 1768, and there were no Alvarez/Regalado combinations.  Simón Alvarez and Ma. Hermenegilda Regalado were not married in Arandas, nor did they have any children in Arandas, nor in any other nearby towns, all of which I searched in, mind you.  And my searches of the IGI and the mormon computer database produced nothing, NOTHING...For

Digest Number 189

Sounds like it is a  report that was prepared in regards to the visits they paid to the various dioceses in the area.
I would be inclined to think that it would contain notes regarding spiritual and financial issues in each one of the places visited.

Thanks,
Angie
