It's been a while since I've sent meeting notices, so this list may be

I'm trying to put together a family tree about my grandmother Maria Soledad Gutierrez.....born 1901 (?) in Arandas or Guadalajara, Jalisco area.....her parent were Jose Gutierrez and Emilia Camarena...I don't have any information about them.....I don't have any further information on her family tree...it's all a mystery... my grandmother immigrated to the U.S. in 1927 (with her sister, Guadalupe)....they had two brothers, Ramon and Miguel, who stayed in Mexico....

I would like help getting information and tracing the family tree as far back as possible.

I apologize if there is a list of abbreviations used in the Catholic Church parish registers in Mexico, however, after some searching I haven't been able to locate one.

I am looking at a marriage record and after the groom's name it says "C. natural y vecino de este Pueblo soltero..." I understand all of that except "C. natural". Could someone please let me know what the "C." stands for?

I do not speak Spanish, but am trying very hard to learn to read it.

you see i have an ancestor who sometimes is refered to as antonia avila and other times as catalina cid. have anyone else here had the same problem?

Dear Members,
I have two quick questions. I have seen that several people who use MyHeritage have Juan de Guzman as born in San Martin Hidalgo (now in Jalisco) en 1652. They say he is the same person as the one that married Luisa Micaela de Velasco.

1)How did you determine that it is the same person and not another?

I know familysearch has a Juan de Guzmán born in 1650 in Cocula

2) How do you know it is not the this Juan de Guzman?

I have not been able to find Juan's parents in spite of diligent searching. The most solid evidence I have is that he was born around 1651 since he was a witness at a dispensa in 1681 and said he was about 30.

It's taken me some time to fill out my family tree, but I've updated and it posted on here today. I see that there are a lot of descendants of Antonio de Ortega Maldonado. Has anyone found anything more of that family back in Spain?

I have been researching Victoriano Ramirez off and on and only had success indirectly. I have his fathers' name and the father's three brothers and a sister. I have his mom's brother's name and her parents, grandparents, and so on, but not her name. I have tracked the Lopez family in san miguel el alto and his father in the vicinity of San Julian. I have where victoriano was born but not a date. Is any one researching him?
I do not descend from him that I know of though I do descend from Juan Jose Ramirez and Maria de Jesus Aseves from San Miguel el alto.

"Ojo" literally means "eyeball," and was the record keeper's notation to
write down in the margin of the record something which he/she felt was of
importance, some fact, something of reference, an aid to memory,
regarding the event in question, which in your case was a marriage.

If I am not mistaken, i have seen the symbol of the cross, on some records,
and it may be an abbreviation for the surname "Cruz."

Cruz literally translates to "cross."

You may also find a combination of symbol and letters as an abbreviation
for a name like the given name Cristobal or Cristoval, + toval or + val.
I am not 100% on the example I just gave for cristobal, but record keepers
were creative, and some were lazy when writing records due to writers
cramp, arthritis, etc.

You may have noticed their abbreviation for the spelling of months like
9bre for "noviembre" or November, 8bre for octubre or October, 7bre for
septiembre or September, etc. Or Villa sor for "Villaseñor" or
Villasenor, as some people enter at familysearch.org, because of the
Spanish symbols are not easily entered via English keyboard.

Also these symbols or accents do not easily translate or get transferred in
Gedcom files, that is why you get "gobbly gook" in the sentence or gedcom
record.

Hope this helps, if I am wron, may another person please correct me.

I'm trying to put together a Ethnic Ancestral Lineage about my Great Grandfather Celso Barrios Aguilar (B.April 27, 1908) In Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. His Parents Were Pedro Aguilar (B. April 26, 1870) In Tepetango, Zacatecas and Mariana Barrios (B. April 17, 1875) In Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas. Pedro's Parents Were Juan Aguilar (1837) and Maria Guadalupe Escobedo (1836) both born In Tepetango, Zacatecas, Mexico. Mariana's parents were Jose Perfecto Barrios (1835) and Maria Valenta Salazar (1856) Both also from Tepetango, Zacatecas, Mexico. Celso appears to be of African and European Descent, I'm interested in learning more about the African bloodline and which of my ancestors carried it. I searched records upon records and came up empty, I went back as far as the late 1700's on Pedro's and Mariana's family and nothing.

If anybody has any Ethnic information of Celso or his Parents, I would much appreciate the help...

I am trying to find the maternal greatgrandparents of Ignacia Correa Flores married 12 Feb 1896 in San Diego de Alejandría, Jalisco to Miguel Orozco López. Their marriage document says that they had a dispensa of the 4th degree. The parents of Ignacia were José Guadalupe Correa Díaz and Agapita Flores Orozco. The parents of Agapita were Eusebio Flores and Felipa Orozco. A parent of Felipa was probably a child of Juan Antonio Roque Tello de Orozco y González and María Teresa Jiménez de Castro Ramírez married 11 Feb 1749 in Jalostotitlán since they were the tatarabuelos of Miguel Orozco López.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sisters Maria Lopez de Elizalde and Josefa de Alvarado, daughters of Luis de Alvarado and Beatriz Lopez de Elizalde, married respectively Thomas Macias (13 Sept 1659) and Nicolas Macias (21 Feb 1662). Does anyone knows what is the relationships of Nicolas and Thomas to the Macias Valades clan? Also, I do not have any information past Luis de Alvarado and Beatriz Lopez de Elizalde. I will appreciate any help.

My name is Arlene and I'm a new member to this site. My surname on my father's side is Torres. Both of his parents were from Jalisco. I finally had a break through in November of 2012 when I discovered that my maternal great grandmother's name was really Endoria Ramires and not Marciana Ramires (which is what she went by). Endoria was born in Nov. of 1856 in San Miguel, El Alto, Jalisco. She married my great grandfather, Felipe de Anda Alderete on May 2, 1883. Felipe was born in Aug. of 1856 also in San Miguel, El Alto, Jalisco. After their marriage they moved to Purisima del Rincon, Guanajuato and started their family. Since November of 2012 these are the surnames that I have linked to the maternal side of my grandmother's family:

Surnames from my paternal side of my grandmother: de Anda Alderete, Luna, Marques and Gutierrez...haven't started really researching yet.

The paternal side of my father's family hasn't been so easy. My grandfather's name was Santiago Guerra Torres. He was born in July of 1899 in Rancho Nuevo, Jalisco. His father was Gabriel Torres born about 1869 according to Santiago's birth record and his mother was Maria Jacova Guerra born abt. 1867. Both parents were from this general area of Jalisco.

At this time I'm researching many different surnames. General locations of research include but are not limited to Matanzas, Rancho Nuevo, Jalostotitlan, San Juan de los Lagos, San Miguel El Alto, Arandas, Atotonilco El Alto, Ayotlan, Guadalajara, Ayo el Chico and Ocotlan.

Hello everyone,I am currently looking for Maria Feliciana Duran's marriage record.I went through all available marriage records from her time period for Nochistlan, Jalpa, Juchilipa and Apozol. I can't seem to locate her unless I missed it. I also went through Guadalajara Dispensations. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. This is her information.

I was able to find new information on my ancestor José Nolasco Fernández de Villalpando and may appear to be related to the same Villalpando family of Aguascalientes and Guanajuato. I found this dispense that includes his name as a witness, his occupation, and wife's name.

En el Pueblo de San Luis de la Paz. en 16 de febrero de 1753, se levantó información del pretenso: Don Diego Joseph de la Fuente Padilla, español de 38 años de edad, vecino de este pueblo de seis años a esta parte, hijo legítimo de Don Thomás de la Fuente y Padilla y de Doña Antonia de Acosta. difuntos. Se otorgó autorización en la Ciudad de Guadalajara. en 6 de abril de 1753. para que los case el Cura del Real y Minas de Siena de Pinos. 21 fojas.

We can see here that though he was a resident of Sierra de Pinos he was originally from the Real de Asientos de Belén. Based on the age at the time of the dispense this would put him at birth around 1718. Due to the time (10 years) approximately that he had arrived in Pinos this would mean he may have been married around 1743 to my 7th great grandmother Manuela María Méndez-Hidalgo. I put her born ca. 1723. They had their daughter Josefa Gertrudis de los Reyes baptized on 16 Jan 1762 in Pinos who later married Capt. José de Camino Trasgallo on 30 Nov 1783 at the same location.

My question is how is related to the Villalpando? I remember a good discussion we had on the topic several years ago. I was stuck at the fact of the Fernández part of the surname. Can they be one in the same. Can Diego and Tomás de Villalpando those from Guanajuato who settled in Aguascalientes be in fact Fernández de Villalpando. I will have to go through the Asientos parish records. Does anyone have any information or leads?

Hi. I'm stuck and need some help. Looking for records for Juan Esteban (or Estevan) Esparza and his Father Gregorio Esparza. I have Esteban marriage record to Maria Luciana Preciado in 1791 in cocula jalisco. In it, it says he is 24 so I can assume he was born in 1767. However sometimes they're not sure of their age. 2 family members were wrong on their age on their kids birth records. When I found their birth records they were off by 5 years. That could be one reason I can't find his recoredd. The other is that it says he's from El Pueblo de Amatlan, I'm guessing it's Amatlan de Canas in Nayarit. How he went from there to Cocula I'll probably never know. Says parents were Gregorio Esparza and Mariana Lopes. I can't find any other record to confirm age and birth place. The only Record i have found in Amatlan through Gregorio and Mariana is a Joseph Raphael De la Cruz Esparza born in 1768. Possibly a brother. I don't know how else to find it other that going through every single entry for at least a decade. I also don't know how to find Gregorio's birth date so I can continue going back. I want to trace all the way back to Spain to the town of Esparza in Navarro. Can anyone help with any info or suggestions.

I still have trouble reading and understanding some words and abbreviations. Such as the ranch he's from. And the word that looks like THO, I know its an abbreviation and i see it everywhere but have no clue what it means

In the Aguascalientes archives there are 45 documents describing dowries (dote matrimonial). All but two are for the town of Aguascalientes, one is for Asientos, and one Lagos de Moreno. They cover the period of the mid 1600s to the mid 1700s. They vary in length from 2 to 11 pages. They will sometimes have family information that is not readily available from other sources.

Naturally, they are for the members of the leading families.
