Nuestros Ranchos Site

The pages on pages on Nuestrosranchos which have the LDS film numbers and batch numbers make it easy to add and edit information, so I recently added half a dozen new batches and associated films to the page for OJuelos.

Also, for those researching the Ojuelos area, the LDS films (and batch numbers) for on the Nuestrosranchos Ojuelos page contain entries from three different churches:
* Señor San José, in Ojuelos, on films numbered 063xxxx and 0640xxx (with xxx up to 140);
* Inmaculada Concepción, in Ciénega de Mata, on films 0640149 to 0641019; and
* Ledesma, Ojuelos (don't know the name of the church), on films 0641027 to 0641037 and films 0641059 and 0641060.

If you know about any other churches in the Ojuelos area which have had their records filmed by the LDS, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

The films 0639963, 0640149, 0640150, 0640151, & 0640170 are on permanent loan at the local Family History center and I will gladly do lookups if you know the date to within a year or so, or if there's an index for your record.

I'm sure this may seem to be a silly question, but...Can someone please explain why an individual is listed three times on family search with the same film number on all three entries, but two different batch numbers.  Also, two of the entries have reference numbers, but they too, are different.  What exactly do the referernce numbers refer to?  I'm hoping the information/explanation can help tear down a brick wall in my research.

i just found a great site davidrumsey.com. it has a lot of great historical maps to look at or buy. i am researching velasco in aguascalientes and one of the maps at this site shows a town of velasco in aguascalientes in 1800's. has anyone heard of this town?

Hello.
My name is Angelina and as a new member I want to take this
opportunity to introduce myself. My interest in genealogy started when
my father passed away and I became painfully aware that I knew very
little of my family lineage. I was elated to find that this site
existed since the oral history that I have managed to collect all
seems to end in Jalisco in the mid to late 1800's. I am, most
definitely, an amateur and will need your assistance in my attempt to
find my lineage.

Here we go .... the surnames I'm interested in are: Chavez, Rodriguez,
Urzua, Moreno, Padilla, Munoz, Carrillo, Silva

Specifically, information on Norberto Chavez: born about 1870, since
his first child was born in Union de Guadalupe, Jalisco, I assume he
was born somewhere in Los Altos de Jalisco.

He married Basilia Rodriguez Urzua around 1892. They had a son, Blas
Chavez Rodriguez, born on Feb. 3, 1893 in Union de Guadalupe, Jalisco,
Mexico

Family lore has it that Norberto belonged to a rich family and that he
was disinherited when he married Basilia Rodriguez Urzua. - I would
appreciate any info on Basilia as well.

I'm also interested in:
Juan Moreno & Atanacia Padilla Munoz. They had a middle child, Aurelia
Moreno Padilla, born in 1901 in San Julian, Jalisco ? so I assume we
are looking for birth dates between 1870 & 1880 or a marriage around
1895 in the areas surrounding San Julian. They had several children, I
believe the oldest was also named Juan.

Antonio Santiago Silva Vargas? born around 1840's ? Tonila, Jalisco ?
he worked on the Carrillo Hacienda, near Tonila ? and had a daughter
named Statislaw (or Estanislao) Silva born between 1865-1870

Eufemio Carrillo ? born around 1860, his family owned a hacienda in or
around Tonila, Jalisco. He married a woman named Lucia between
1880-1890 - their children were Francisco, Aureliano, Jesus.

I hope my colleagues here at Nuestros Ranchos will overlook the fact that
this email is potentially about Jaliscan food rather than genealogy. I am
visiting my parents in So. CA, after the 4/30 conference in Rancho
Cucamonga. We were again bemoaning the loss of my maternal grandfather's
recipe (unwritten) to cure olives when my parents happened to mention for
the very first time that he had learned to cure olives from my paternal
grandfather, my Jaliscan grandfather. Now, this grandfather may have
learned it between here and Jalisco (he worked in the Yucatan and lived and
worked in Texas before arriving in CA about 1928. But if is an Jaliscan
recipe, I would love it if someone would share it. These olives were mild,
delicious green olives. I know the taste had something to do with the
proportion of lye, the type of cask, and the curing time, and that they
would be taste-tested daily after a certain amount of time. I've sampled a
variety of olives in Spain and they are nothing like my grandfathers'. Can
anyone help?

genealogia. Estoy visitando mis padres aqui en el Sur de California despues
que asiste la conferencia de 30/4 en Rancho Cucamonga. Estabamos otra vez
lamentando la perdida de la receta para curar las aceitunas de mi abuelo
maternal cuando me dijeron por la primera vez que fue mi abuelo paternal, mi
abuelo jalisciense, que se la enseno a mi otro abuelo. Puede ser este
abuelo se la apendio entre Jalisco y California, desde que el trabajaba en
la Yucatan y en Tejas antes que llegaba a California en 1928. Pero si es
una receta jalisciense, me alegro muchisimo si alguien me la puede
compartir. Las aceitunas eran leve y sabrosas. Se que tiene que ver con la
proporcion de lejia, el tipo del barril, el tiempo para curar y que el las
probo diariamente despues de una cantidad de dias. He probado una variedad
de aceitunas en espana, y nada son como las de mis abuelos. Alguien me
puede ayudar?

I was browsing through the microfilm of entierros de Huejuquilla, Jalisco, Mexico for the years 1719 - 1761. I found something interesting if any of you can help me decipher it.

This paragraph is from the entierros and it mentions starts out by talking about the Pueblo of San Diego De Huejuquilla year 1728. San Diego is not the pueblo. It is the name of the parish of the pueblo of Huejuquilla. Also it makes references to Mexico (Mexico in the year 1728), and also about provinces of Nayarit, Coahuila, Californias and Thexas (Texas) Del Consejo. Texas mentioned in the year 1728.

Can anyone tell me where to find the informacion matrimonial 1778-1790 in Colotlan of the Espanoles. I checked out the LDS film #0443712 and it was all about the Indios.

I am seeking infomration about this couple. They are my maternal 6th great grandparents. They were married 11 Feb 1710 in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes. Bartholome was buried 07 Jun 1728 in Aguascalientes, Aguascalinetes. To date, I have discovered three children: Maria Antonia, Marina, and Joaquin, who was married to Maria Theresa de Uyoa.

gonzalez are appearing as peres, crus, gonzales.
I'm actually per the Mexican 1930s Census a Peres, not a Perez. Have
you encountered this? Any light to shed? Is there a sephardic or
portuguese connection?

PS - I consider Cucamonga my stomping grounds, as I lived there with an aunt, when I was in H.S. (Chaffey) and Jr. College, in a house my grandfather had purchased in the 1930's. My grandfather and father had at one time worked for the Italian Vineyard Co, in Guasti, CA. The Ontario International Airport now sits on the land that once were grape vineyards.

Hello Everyone, I have just recently started researching my ancestry. So happy to find this site so specific to the area I'm researching. I have been trying to move passed my gr gr grandfather Tomas Valdes, b. 1835 in "Jerez, y vecino de los Cuervos" according to his marriage documents. Also, according to the marriage documents he was "hijo ligitimo de Jose Maria Valdes y Estefana Muro". However, on his first child's baptism record his father is listed as Teodoro Valdes and Maria Varela. Later baptism records for his children show Jose Maria as his father again. I have not been able to find any birth or baptism records on Tomas Valdes to confirm who his father was. Have looked in Family Search's records but no success. I would appreciate any help in this search!

I've been reading your posts and checking all the names against my database
since I am also researching the same surnames for families in Cuquio.
Unfortunately, I haven't connected any individuals, but I'll bet we will
connect these families if we go back one or more generations back.

I have an 8th great-grandfather named Juan Perez Ynfante married to
Magdalena Lopez on 3 May 1682 in Cuquio, Jalisco. I found the following
five children of this couple:

1. Thomasa (my 7th great-grandmother)
2. Juana, baptized on 25 Jun 1686 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas
3. Melchor
4. Sebastiana
5. Maria Lugarda, baptized on 13 Jun 1713 in Cuquio, Jalisco

My 7th great-grandmother Thomasa Perez Ynfante married Marcos Mancilla on
16 Feb 1713 in Cuquio, Jalisco. I have found the following children of this
couple:

1. Maria Gertrudis, baptized 29 Jul 1714 in Cuquio, Jalisco
2. Juan Manuel, baptized on 5 Jul 1721 in Cuquio, Jalisco
3. Jacinta, baptized 24 Sep 1727 in Cuquio, Jalisco

Estimado compañeros busco datos sobre la familia Méndez-Hidalgo es mi entendimiento que su solar novohispano era en San Luis Potosí de ahí algunas ramas poblaron Zacatecas (sitios como Pinos, Fresnillo, Zacatecas) y una rama pobló Los Altos de Jalisco.

Mis séptimos bisabuelos eran Joseph Nolasco Fernández de Villalpando y María Manuela Ménedez-Hidalgo tuvieron sus hijos en Sierra de Pinos la primera que he encontrado fue bautizada el 24 de febrero de 1751. No encuentro más de estos Méndez Hidalgos por lo tanto sospecho que llegaron de otro lugar, principalmente de San Luis Potosi ya que esta a los límites de Sierra de Pinos. Tendré que buscar el matrimonio la cual sería probable en Sierra de Pinos.

La rama de Los Altos de Jalisco se encuentra con Cristóbal Méndez-Hidalgo y su esposa Catalina de Mendoza Acuña quien bautizaron su hija Juana el 28 de julio de 1615 en Santa María de los Lagos. No sé si éste llegó de San Luis Potosí o como llegó a Los Altos de Jalisco.

I’m looking for information regardina the Méndez-Hidalgo family, my understanding is they originated in San Luis Potosi from there several branches moved into Zacatecas and Los Altos de Jalisco.

My seventh great grandparents were Joseph Nolasco Fernández de Villalpando and María Manuela Méndez-Hidalgo. They had several kids in Sierra de Pinos, the first that I found was baptized 24 Feb 1751. I have not been able to find any more on these Méndez Hidalgo just clues. I suspect Manuela Méndez Hidalgo arrived from somewhere else not Sierra de Pinos probably San Luis Potosí. I still need to find a marriage record in Sierra de Pinos.

The branch that went to Los Altos de Jalisco began with Cristóbal Méndez-Hidalgo and his wife Catlaina de Mendoza Acuña who baptized their daughter Juana 28 Jul 1615 in Santa María de los Lagos. I’m not sure if he arrived from San Luis Potosí

Possible match: Ciénega de Mata, 27 Mar 1715 baptism of Petronila GARSIA LOPES, daughter of Antonio GARSIA & Nicolas LOPES.

Maria Josepha Carolina Rosa LIRA (or de LIRA), wife of Nicolas ESPARZA (son of Bartolome & Petronila), married 1761 in Ciénega de Mata, four known children from 1765 to 1774. Her daughter Maria Ynes, born in 1765, is listed in her 1787 marriage record with the birthplace of "Puesto de Carrasco," which I've been unable to find on any map.
Earliest record: baptism on 10 Dec 1743 in Ciénega de Mata.

Maria Gregoria de los Dolores HERNANDEZ, married 11 Feb 1812 in Ojuelos to José Regino PAREDES. Three known children from 1713 to 1824.

Yrinea ORTIZ, born about 1824, wife of José Paulino PAREDES. Four known children from 1848 to 1862.
Earliest record: marriage on 17 OCT 1841 at Señor San José in Ojuelos.

Six other children of this couple were found from 1823 to 1838, with baptism records in Ciénega de Mata, except the last two (1835 & 1838) who were baptized in Ojuelos. First picture is a hut in Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico.
Second picture is a hut with similar design in Galicia, Spain

Note that the state of Jalisco in Mexico's old name is "Nueva Galicia" New Galicia.

But could that type of dwelling in Huejuquilla get its origins from the Europe settlers from Spain that came to Huejuquilla back during the time of the Spanish?
