I am sorry to say that both lines cannot be correct. You wrote one line showing your ancestry from the ornelas with Estefania as an illegitimate daughter of Pedro I of Portugal. The second line where you show descendency from Charlemagne has her as his granddaughter, daughter of Joao I de Aviz , rey de Portugal .
Which is the correct line and can you send me the sources because I have been unable to find estefania to correct this error. Also do you have any of the mothers in the line so I can trace them back?
If she is the daughter of Joao I de Aviz, king of Port. then is her mother Ines peres Estevez. She was a mistress of Joao I that gave her 3 children that I have in my records. I do not have estefania in there yet and not until this is clarified. This would explain the esteves in Lope esteves de Ornelas y Portugal.

No I dont remember connecting her to Pedro, she is aughter of Joao I, it is well known I got my source from Funchel (did I spell it right) The archives from Madeira, ask Steven Hernandez he is searching all of there records right now. I can send you a scan of the paragrph saying the Ornelas are of the Casa Real of Joao I. -Daniel

I am looking at his same list on this communication where you say estefania is the illegitimate daughter of Pedro I , king of portugal on line 19.

Is Estefania's mother Joao I's jewish mistress Ines Peres Esteves daughter of Pedro Esteves and Mecia Annes

Where can I find the source and yes I would like any information that you have. I would love to have the photograph.

Please send to rricci@lausd.net and riccihome@yahoo.com

Even though I use the rricci address more I have trouble sometimes opening attachments and photographs. It is a work e-mail address and they put all sorts of blocks up to try and stop viruses.

I can scan the actual esquema later in the week. It has a source and everything! Yes, Ines is Joao's mistress and had Estefanía who married the Lords of Ornelas. -Daniel

Thank you, Daniel,

We lived in San Jose, CA from 1947 to 1997 when we retired and moved up here to the Northwest. My husband was born in El Paso, TX and I was born in Brush, CO. We'll be going to San Jose in October for my 50th high school reunion (SJ High-Class of '57), then on to Salt Lake City to do some research.

Here are the sources there also some websites but need to go back and write them down.
From: Dornelas, Afonso; Dornelas, origem Deste apelido (there is a exemplary in Funchal Library)
The Transalation from Portegues: The Origin of the Ornelas Surname, Im not sure where to buy it, would be a good book to have. Well thats it for now because the genealogy never ends it goes all the way back to the time of the Roman Empire and Jesus Christ so yeah. I think its really fun when you connect into a royal family. I have checked and your husband and I connect with almost every royal European family today, I think its really cool to know this. You may also be wondering Alvaro de Ornelas the one born in 1530-1532 did infact plea the King of Portugal to keep his fathers title in the 1560's when his father died. So what does that mean? Not only did that title came to Mexico it stayed there. The big question is who is the Heir to that title? Someone in Mexico right now is the rightful heir to the County of Dornelas. No one knows what happened to it, Ive been researching but have not found anything for the title after 1611 when Alvaro died. And there is no record of Alv
ar
o the on
e born in 1530 to have children in Portugal. He only had to return in order to officially become Count of Dornelas but quickly returned to Jalisco. so the title did in fact say Mexico. Not like the Moctezuma line in which some returned to Spain. The Ornelas stayed in Jalisco. And Emilie I have some tips for you. I think youll need to extend your Ornelas line back to 1690-1710 because thats when I have a Benito Ornelas and I think your Benito is the ancestor of you Benito so I hope your husband and I can connect in the future. -Daniel Mendez del Camino

Maria, Thank you so much for pointing out my oversight! I had assumed I was
looking at listings for matrimonial records. But please educate me about
how to use batch numbers to find records. I have not been successful in
locating any extracted marriage records for this event the usual way, via
familysearch or familysearchlab. But I will be requesting the film anyway,
as I like to search through for other family marriages. Again, thanks!

Raquel,

If you are looking for a marriage record in Cuquio pre 1741 then, I believe
you'll find it in FHL INTL Film 617581 which covers Matrimonios
1711-1742,1744-1762. There are no Información Matrimonial records prior to
1741 as you stated, but those are not the records of the actual marriage.
Informacion Matrimonial contains the interview by the priest of the bride
and groom to be. The marriage event would be documented in the Matrimonios
film. Film 617581 has been extracted and you'll find most of the marriages
on the IGI. They are on batch #M604673. I hope this information will help
you.

I agree with María, just because marriage records lack in an area if they have información matrimonial much earlier they can be treated as a marriage to some extent at least for information wise. -Daniel Camino

I seem to have poorly communicated my problem. I mean that matrimonial
films don't seem to exist for that period, not that they are not catalogued
or posted. I can't call for films that don't exist. According to the
archdiocese, the marriage would have occurred in the parish of San Felipe in
Cuquio. I have seen a posting for a marriage pre1741 for Cuquio on
Genealogyforum.com, but the submission is an old one and thir email is no
longer functioning. But thanks for responding.

Raquel,
Again, I advise you to look in surrounding municipios for records prior to 1741, they probably had to travel some distance to get married.

Rocha Marriage

I was looking through a film so far today and it included a marriage of a Rocha (havent had a chance to transcribe it) in 1770. I almost skipped it but I remember
that many members have de la Rocha lines and thought it would be good to scan it.

Greetings all! Hola!

My name is Luis JAIME. After stopping my genealogy research for 11 years because of a dead end I have decided to pick it up again now that I've found this great nuestrosranchos.org web site. Something that didn't exsist back then... I don't think I can ever break through the dead end but I hope to share my research and data with other connections to my tree. There are still a few unanswered questions I have as well as some loose JAIME tree that I've yet to connect.

Esperanza, I too am doing research in Santa Rosalia, Camargo.  3 of my grandparents come from the area.  If you'd like to contact me off Ranchos and perhaps I can do a search for you on a database I have for the area.  Just give me a few names, you know the basic info. Those rolls are so bad I don't think LDS would be able to make anything from them. One of those two JAIMEs be his dad? Could be. But you and I know a "could be" is not good enough in genealogy. I spent two years going back and forth to Aguascalientes. The pastor of el Sagrario and la Catedral said the documents are all old and in bad condition. They have them all on film that LDS shot. However, they have no machines to view them on. They said they allowed LDS to shoot all of their documents with the condition they send them film readers. As of 1997 they has still not received them, nor had they been contacted by them... What Franciscan records are you talking about. The school records?I'll be forwarding my PEDROZA and ROMO data.Luis-----Original Message-----From: Daniel M-17;-65;-67;ndez del Camino Date: 02/16/2009 03:31 PMTo: "Patty Hoyos" Subject: Re: [Nuestros Ranchos] Greetings all! Hola! my guess that hard film has to be transcribed it may include him, but who knows. Do you think one of the two Jaime could be his father? I guess hi might of grown up in a Franciscan Mission or santuary. My guess it might possible to visit to those places and look for him. I do know the Franciscans kept over the top records. The Albas were pretty wealthy with all of there land, a common trait for all altenos. Though a small family in the 15-1600's by the late 1600's they were huge. I have taken the Pedroza to the 1500's they were seated and settled in Lagos de Moreno and Aguascalientes (a later main branch) from there they spread out throughout the region Mostly upper Los Altos. What is your Romo line since that seems easier, resource wise. -Daniel _________________________________________________________________ Stay up to date on your PC, the Web, and your mobile phone with Windows Live http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/119462413/direct/01/ -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Nuestros Ranchos Research Mailing List To post, send email to: research(at)nuestrosranchos.org To change your subscription, log on to: http://www.nuestrosranchos.org

Thanks Daniel,About Jorge JAIME... the LDS film going that far back in time for baptisms in that area is extremely hard to read and at times unreadable. And you're right. There are only two JAIME males that come to Mexico during that time period mid 1600s. They marry and one of them eventually end up in Zacatecas. I"ve found no connection to that JAIME branch other than a visit that was made by one of my 3x great grandfather in the early 1800s. (another mystery I hope to uncover)I have his marriage investigation, marriage, and death records. All say "de padres no conocidos..." I also have his extensive last will and testimony. Which also says the same. However it does say he was "creado y enterrado con el habito de Fransiscano." Since he was married and had a large family I could only guess he may have been a third order Fransiscan. I've also discovered that the Fransiscans did have the first school in Aguascalientes. The ALBAs were one of the first "wealthiest" to settle the Alteno region. They have a lot of history there. The PEDROZA connection doesn't come in until the 1800s. How much of the PEDROZA line do you have?Luis-----Original Message-----From: Daniel M-17;-65;-67;ndez del Camino Date: 02/16/2009 02:14 AMTo: "Patty Hoyos" Subject: Re: [Nuestros Ranchos] Greetings all! my guess that hard film has to be transcribed it may include him, but who knows. Though a small family in the 15-1600's by the late
1600's they were huge.
I have taken the Pedroza to the 1500's they were seated and settled in Lagos de Moreno and Aguascalientes (a later main branch) from there they spread out throughout the region Mostly upper Los Altos. What is your Romo line since that seems easier, resource wise. -Daniel

Hello Kelly! Some info I have on here is that she wasnt born in Mexico City, she couldnt have been. The royal lineage at least about 90% had left the capital in order to be protected. Petronila de Moctezuma, Princess of Mexico had to have been born somewhere else. It couldnt bee Aguascalientes. And Morelia wasnt found until 1579. So it must of have been Guadalajara or Durango or a place in Guanjuato that I can tremember th name of ther town it was found in 1542. Now about the Belista and Leonista contravarsy. These
papers are supposed to exist in the marriage of Petronila, she lists her genealogy to some extent. People have said she is the grandaughter of Moctezuma or the grtgrandaughter. No ones knows. She married in Mexico city, but I think she married somewhere else in el Estado of Mexico. around 1594.

This is the genealogy of the Belista beliefs.

To my judgement according tot the Belistas Petronila is Princess. Put how can she be princess when she is the great granddaughter. The princess titles usually only goes up the grandchildren after that there usually bestowed a different title. Put again Im refering to European royalty. Put European and Mexican Nobility were fairly identitical. Mexican Nobility onlly ended in 1917, wasnt to much long ago. In tha past century the Nobility were the HAcendados or the wealthy landowners. They were minor nobles who were given land grants to haciendas. Some of my more recent ancestords
were Mariano del Camino (1853-1916) he was given a grant by Porfirio Diaz in 1899. There family also owned los angeles in Zacatecas, near Pinos. Just a few clarifications.

The title or style "prince" exists in Spain only for the heir of the Crown,
being Prince of the Asturias, of Gerona and of Viana. The royal children are
titled "Infante" or "Infanta". Portugal followed a similar rule.

One thing is that people might be princes on their own because of their
belonging to a royal family (that would be the case of Isabel de Moctezuma)
and another that they have the title "Prince". Like in England, where the
royal children are princes and princesses but only the Prince of Wales and
the members of the royal family who are created a "Prince Royal" (yes, it's
confusing) actually bear that title, like princess Anne, who was made Royal
Princess by her mother the Queen.

France had "Princes of the Blood" (members of the royal family and families
connected by blood to royalty, like the Prince of Conti and the Prince of
Condé), but the heir to the crown was called "Dauphin", the royal males
"Monsieur" and the royal females "Madame".

Austrian members of the royal familiy are "Archdukes", regardless whether
they are children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. of an Austrian
Emperor, but they all are princes and princesses.

Plus generally calling "prince" royal children in Europe is fairly recent
(19th century).

Never heard of any of Moctezuma's children ever been called "Prince".
Actually, the spaniards would refer to Moctezuma II as the "Señor de
Mexico", although we know that he was an actual emperor because of his
dominions.

Mexican nobility was abolished not in 1917, but in 1826. Land owning has
never meant nobility in itself (eventhough practically all titled nobility
all over the world has at one point owned land). Mexican nobility was
limited to the titled nobility (those individuals who were entitled to use a
"Título de Castilla": counts and marqueses; a few viscounts, one baron and
one duke, plus some noble dignities like "Adelantado" and "Mariscal") and to
hijosdalgo, or hidalgos, which is the lowest level of nobility
(transmittable only through males, with a few exceptions), basis and origin
of all Spanish nobility but which does not imply a title.

Regards,
Hector

Just a note...

I don't believe Petronila would be marrying about 1594, because that
would be about when her daughter, Francisca, should have been marrying
Lope Ruis de Esparza. Those couple's first few children are said to
have been born in the 1590s.

Of course, I haven't found hard evidence on this...but I would tend to
agree with those dates because they fit the picture. For example,
Salvador Ruis de Esparsa and Maria Vielma would have to have been born
about then to be married circa 1618.

Thanks,
Connie

I have researched her ancestry and looked at all the different arguements.
The first fact is that she is a descendent of Moctezuma.
The second fact is that she is listed as a princess, a title which only goes to daughters and granddaughters.
The third fact is that these two facts in combination were well regarded to be true at the time that she was still alive and that these facts were not disputed.
The fourth fact is that the latest attempts to connect her by many genealogists have mistakes in them. They confuse two leonores or overlook info.
The line that John Schmal has on the internet is incorrect. That is a fact not an opinion, and I informed him of it one day when I met him at the library in west los angeles. He thought it was open to debate. I wrote down his error but I do not have it in front of me right now. OneI mistake in a line throws the whole descendency line off.
I strongly believe that Ines Moctezuma, daughter of Pedro Moctezuma(son of Moctezuma II) is nicknamed Petronila after her father and is the same Petronila married to Martin Navarro.

R.A.,
As a descendant of Petronila, I would like to see any original documents that you (or any other member of the group) are aware where Petronila is identified directly or indirectly as 'princesa', or by phrases such as: 'to be of common knowledge that she is grandaughter of Moctezuma..." etc. I've read that such documentation exists, but I have never actually seen it.

I dont think this is possible, Ines was daughter of Moctezuma not Pedro. Ines born ca. 1509 and died on November 1520.
Pedro was a half sister of Ines. He was born ca. 1511 and also died on June 1520. Many of the Aztec royals died in 1520.
I strongly support the Leonor claim but like you said people confuse this line beause there are 3 or 4 Leonor Moctezuma in the
family. One claim, Petronila is descended from Isabel and Hernan Cortes. The second, is she comes from Leonor and Valderrama and
the third is she is daughter of Leonor and Valderrama is daughter of Isabel and Hernan Cortes who is daughter of the emperor.
I have also heard of a document that had existed in the 1700s stating how Petronila is descended from Moxtezuma. But by now it may be lost
in the Archivo General de la Nacion or some old Library or in some building. -Daniel Camino

I am embarrassed to say that I did not even check my notes before writing such a definitive statement. I went back and looked over my notes. In my notes I have written down how the two Leonors are not likely to be the mothers of Petronila. I did not know about the other Leoners. My notes don’t have Ines as Petronila, but as the possible mother of Petronila. In my notes I have written down that taken into consideration what we do know about Petronila, the fact that she was considered a granddaughter of Moctezuma II, that she had been referred to as a princess, I have written in my notes that it was most likely that she was a daughter of Pedro Moctezuma.

I am sorry to everyone that took my erroneous statement/conviction to heart. I promise to refer to my notes before I make any strong statements. In my family tree I have her as the end of the branch, with no parents but with accompanying notes with directions to Moctezuma II’s tree in case it is ever proven that she is his granddaughter.

When I look at someone else’s work, even if they are highly esteemed genealogists like my Tio Dr. Rito Romo, Mariano Gonzalez Leal, my first cousin Dr. Ernesto Casillas, J. Alberto Casillas, or Jaime Holcombe I check their information for accuracy for I have found mistakes in all of their work and corrected it using primary sources. Genealogy is time consuming and tiring at times. Mistakes happen when you are tired and handling tremendous amounts of information. That is why I check all finds before adding them to my tree. If there are questions, then I do not add them to my tree but add them to notes.

In my notes I do have many scraps of information that do lead me to believe that Toribio Hernandez Arellano is a descendent of both the Ramirez Arellano family and the Hurtado de Mendoza family. For the past few months I have been writing a book detailing the fernandez de hijar family from its beginning with the first ferandez de hijar to the Rodriguez de hijar branch in Nochistlan that continued on to Los Altos de Jalisco, and finally to Santa Monica, Cailfornia. At no time did I combine or connect the research of the hijar family to the Ramirez arrelano family in my search for Toribio Hernandez Arellano’s parents. It wasn’t until members of nuestrosranchos.orgmunity brought it to my attention that I realized that all my work led to this same conclusion. I will not make a strong statement yet since I still have pie on my face from my comments on Petronila Mendoza but I will continue writing my Fernandez/Rodriguez de hijar book, and putting all the pieces of this puzzle together.

I am grateful to everyone that questions any statements that I make. I am grateful to everyone that will look at my work critically and help me correct any mistakes that I may make. I love genealogy. That is why I do not place individuals in my tree unless they have been confirmed to be the right individuals. I would rather have a shorter accurate tree than a bigger tree filled with even one inaccuracy. Once an inaccurate piece of information is placed in a tree the rest of that part of the branch is false and undermines all the work put in to collect true information.

P.S. An example of why I question everything:
My brother sent me

GENEALOGÍA DE LA FAMILIA GARCÍA SANCHO Y SUS ALIANZAS TAPATÍAS

Por: Guillermo Padilla-Dávila y Origel y Erik Andrés Reynoso Palomar Márquez.

His wife descends from this line and it is a wonderful piece of work. It is very detailed and highly accurate except for one small mistake that did not ruin the rest of the work because the person in question was listed as a mother and the line focused on the father. The source listed was a work by Mariano Gonzalez Leal. The lady in question was a wife but she was a second wife and the lady that should have been in the tree was the first wife for she was the mother that belonged there. What made the mistake easier to make was that both wives were surnamed Gonzalez. They were not the same person. I have documented both marriages and have the baptismal certificate showing the first wife as his mother. There is a slight possibility that The father had a second son with the same name with his second wife but he would have married at a young age given the date of the second marriage.

The line was also incomplete in that it branched out to my sister in laws mother but ignored the branch that led to her father who married his cousin, I don’t remember if they were 3rd or 4th cousins. I worked out his branch, made the needed correction and additions and forwarded the work to my brother and sister in law.

Donald Chipman, in "Moctezuma's Children," provides some information on Pedro Moctezuma's descendants, but I do not think his treatment is complete; the subject is to broad to have been completely incorporated in his book..

His figure 4.2 shows Pedro and three of his wives, or consorts:

(1) Ines Tiacapan, the mother of Martin Moctezuma, who had no heirs
(2) Catalina Quiasichititl, the mother of Diego Luis Moctezuma (he married Francisca de la Cueva y Valenzuela: 6 children)
(3) Doña Francisca (no issue)

In the text of Ch 4 and in its note #54, Chipman refers to children of four other women: Bartolome, Lorenzo, Maria, and Magdalena. He refers to AGI, Mexico, 764, Tabla II and Reflexiones sobre la Tabla VI. Mother's names arre given in Tabla II. [AGI = Archiva General de Indias, Seville]. This may be available through PARES, but I have not looked for it.

Pedro Moctezuma left a will; and it apparently still exists, but I do not know where (perhaps in the Mexican Archives). He names his children in it, most as "hijo naturales." His first son was his principle heir (named Martin Cortes in the text; perhaps this is Martin Cortes Moctezuma.)

Chipman also refers to the PhD dissertation of Ann Prather Hollingsworth on Pedro Moctezuma's descendants. The dissertation if available from ProQuest (successor to University Microfilms); the cost is a $41.00 via internet order. I've not looked at this. I would expect this is the most complete treatment of his descendants; it was written in 1980.

It would be really nice if someone would post a "definitive" study of the Martin Navarro/Petronila de Moctezuma descent, with primary citations (and where these citations may be found!). As well as some of the other connections.

Donald Chipman's "Moctezuma's Children" is still available from the major online book sellers. It is not expensive, and is very interesting reading.

To Whom It May Concern--

Without places and dates, it is hard to tell whom we are talking about. I looked at my old files and this is what I came up with:

Christobal HERNANDEZ GAMINO born about 1631 in Ayo el Chico, Jalisco, Mexico. Married 23 Feb 1653 in Leon, Guanjuato, Mexico to Maria RUIZ de VELASCO, daughter of Pedro RUIZ de VELASCO and Anna NUNEZ BOJORQUEZ.

It looks as if Cristobal was born in Aguascalientes with some of his siblings before the family moved to leon and then to ayo el chico and arandas region

Preguntas/Questions......Hurtado de Mendoza

Hola a Todos!

I have a couple of questions, which I would like to ask.
I know now the parents of the wife of Rodrigo Cristobal Olivares 1563, Maria Hurtado de Mendoza 1567, were Toribio Hernandez de Arellano Ab1550 and Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza Ab1550. Aguas.

Sophia,
I have the wife of Cristobal Gutierrez-de-Mendoza (abt. 1659) as Maria Gutierrez-de-Laris (abt. 1663). I show he died on 24 Mar 1718. Is this the same person? Have I made a mistake in my Tree?

How do you get evidence for Noble/royal lines?

I have connected my Ornelas line back to Alvaro de Ornelas who came from portugal to Mexico city in 1527. He was the son of El "Conde de Dornelas" his name was also Alvaro Dornelas. I have backed it up through Microfilm back to 1565 in Lagos de Moreno where the Alvaros son was born in 1567, and then the rest is just what the royals except the genealogy.

I descend from the ornelas family, Do you know who the parents of Alvaro Ornelas' wife petronila orosco are?
Can you please send me the info.
I have done extensive research on the connections of european royalty, the lara, mendoza and guzman familes To the families of los altos de jalisco and I missed the ornelas connection.
When you reesearch european royalty over the internet be careful of errors. I have found many of their conclusions to be unreliable.
Our work is only as good as our sources. Genealogists are like computers. Input good information and you get good results. Input feces and you get toilet paper. and you would only use that hard paper in an emergency.

You said "the rest is just what the royals except the genealogy". I don't understand that sentence. The "rest" is what?

I am interested in your message because my husband has Ornelas in his ancestry. Who are your Ornelas after the one born in Lagos de Moreno in 1567? Do you have a straight unbroken line from then until the late 1700s? I have traced my husband's Ornelas back to a Jph. Benito de Ornelas who was born in San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco in 1759. His parents were Jose de Ornelas and Maria Gusman or Maria de los Dolores Martin. Jose Benito married Ma. Ylaria Villalobos in Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco on Jan 16 1790. She was born in 1737 in Ayo el Chico. Did any of your Ornelas end up in Lagos, Encarnacion or Ayo el Chico?

I have backed it up through Microfilm back to 1565 in Lagos de Moreno where the Alvaros son was born in 1567, and then the rest is just what the royals except the genealogy.

Here is what it looks like

Alvaro de Ornelas, Count of Dornelas, born ca. 1462 in Dornelas, Portugal

Alvaro de Ornelas born ca. 1494 in Lisbon, Portugal

Alvaro de Ornelas born ca. 1531 in Mexico City

Alvaro de Ornelas born 24 Mar 1567 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco

I guess Alvaro was a family name!

If you keep going back to genealogy the Ornelas descend from the Pedro I, King of Portugal, through one of the Ornelas who married his daughter Princess Estefania of Portugal, and also King Robert II of France through one of his daughters, Princess Alembert of France and then the Kings of Aragon, though Princess Jimena of Aragon. The Ornelas are direct descedants of Ramiro III, King of Leon. Im also having this problem with other noble lines, but Im not sure whether just to except what has been established or keep searching. Im assuming the Nobility kept good records i suppose. Can anyone help me, Im really confused. What would you do? Thanks.

Hello Emile, I have a solid line from 1770-1527 and then I just used the royal genealogies records and such. which extended from 1527 to about the year 900ad so far as i have looked, theres MUCH more but havent looked at alot of it. Im sure your husband and I connect because all Ornelas in Mexico are related. The Patriarch of the Ornelas surname was Alvaro de Ornelas, who came in 1527 to Mexico City and some of his children were born in Jalisco and Michoacan. My guess some of his children went settled throughout the rest of Nueva Galicia. Yes, many of my Ornelas were born in Encarnacion and Lagos, so your husband and i should connect, Ill see what i can find on Benito Ornelas, the name sounds familiar. I had gone on IGI and wrote down all the childrens name for each generation but havent had time too add them to my PAF so, Im not really done yet. I can tell you that your husband does descend from Isabel de Mendoza and Toribio Hernandez de Arellano. You can tell your husband he's a descendant of Pedro I of Portugal, Robert II of France and The King of Aragon. Im sure he'll be happy, now its just to connect it to my line. Ill be glad to help you, I hope this helps. Ill post the Ornelas Tree soon on Ranchos.

Daniel,

Thank you so much. My husband will be so pleased. He always acts so royal, now I can tell him he comes by it naturally, ha, ha. It will really go to his head. I will be pleased just to close that gap from Benito Ornelas and his father back to what you have found. Keep up the good work!

Pintura of Don Martin Casillas...

Wednesday, Dec 24, 2008

Dear Group--

Many years ago when I was an active part of SHHAR in Orange, California, I was given a poster which was about Don Martin Casillas--
Architect/ Alarife of the cathedrals Puebla de Los Angeles, Mexico City and Guadalajara. Listed as his some of his descendants were the following seven SHHAR members; Tony Campos and his wife Clarisa Vega, Ramon Godinez, George Herrera, Ophelia Marquez, Mary Lou Montagna, and Lillian Wold.

I have been disappointed so far in my search for Martin Casillas's parents but there is information concerning his relatives. In my research I found that he was said to be related to the viceroy Lorenzo Suarez de Mendoza, through the Suarez de Mendoza line.

Comentario

The father of Martín Casillas was :Pedro Casillas, acording to the book , *La Epopeya de la raza extremeña en indias* by Vicente Navarro Del Castillo.
I wrote a book about him and my family tree.

Then you are related to my wife. Is your book published and if so can I buy it. I have met Lalo but not his brothers. My father in law who recently passed away is his 2nd cousin. I sent Lalo a small family tree through my father in laws sister Lourdes T. G. but I don't know if he ever rec'd it. Just last week I stated working on his tree again. I have a lot (many generations)of his mother's side of the family (both sides had casillas) but just recently started work on his father's side. Were the paternal grandparents Asencion Casillas andJuliana Lozano and the maternal grandparents Tiburcio Lozano and Maria Martin.

My wife descends from camilo del carmen casillas brother to Bacilia Casillas

Thanks

In 1583, when Viceroy Lorenzo de Suarez y Mendoza died, don Martin Cassillas was sent to work on the Mexico City Cathedral. He took his wife Mencia Gonzalez Cabrera, daughter of Francisco Jimenez and Mencia Gonzalez Cabrera, with him to Mexico City and their two children, Maria and Martin (born respectively 1580 and 1582.) Quieren Ayuda a encontrar sus antepasados? Do you want help in finding your ancestors?

If you want to have better results, simply put more data. Do not limit
yourselves to showing both of the last names you’re looking for. Put
information about relatives: brothers, spouse (s), children, etc…. What is
the first name? When did the birth take place, marriage, death- in what date
and place and more importantly why do you think that? People do not always use
both last names; sometimes they use the mothers’, certain families use the
last name of a famous relative, for many generations. Putting more information
is going to open the doors and people are going to be able to help with greater
effectiveness.

Totatiche 1842 Census

This last weekend, I scanned the entire 1842 Census of Totatiche, Jalisco. For anyone who is interested in the document, it can be downloaded from the following URL. You should be warned that it is a very large file (approximately 100MB) and will therefore take a very long time to download 10-15 minutes even with DSL.

Record of my Grandma, Maria del Carmen Ornelas

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with this: I searched the pilot program and found my grandma, Maria del Carmen Ornelas, b 28 Nov 1900, Jesus, Guadalajara, Jalisco.  Her father, Doroteo Ornelas and mother, Rosa Cortez. The film #1106706 and batch # is C01861-3.  The record is only for view at this time.

Eduardo, you are right, I did some extractions many years ago and I do remember not taking all the information from the record. I will order the film, at least I know the film number now. Thank you for all your efforts. ---Esther Jordan (Lopez)

I recommend that you look at the origianal record. The piolt site does have
information about what is on the record. However, it is often incomplete.
The original image often has additional information that was never
extracted. Often the extractors ommited information about the parents or
grandparents depending on the training that they received at the time or the
focus of the particualar project. Always go to the original when and if
possible. I have often found this to be the case.

different avenue. Don't worry about money, I am glad to help when I can.

FamilySearch.Org , no

Tendrían aproximadamente, unos cincuenta a setenta años. Lo bueno es que te
da la edad y su estado civil, y otra cosa que no mencione es - también te
dice de donde son, (el estado o país).

Since the subject of books just came up - does any lucky list member have a
copy of
Genealogía de Nochistlán Antiguo Reino de la Nueva Galicia
en el Siglo XVII según sus Archivos Parroquiales
by osé Luis Vázquez y Rodríguez de Frías? I think it was published in a very
limited edition in 2007.

I would be interested to purchase, or perhaps someone could do a look up for
us?

Thanks in advance-
Susan and Joe Cadena
