Census

If anybody is interested, I copied the
transcription of a 1650
Tlaltenango census this weekend that I can PDF and
email to whomever
would like it.  There is not much in terms of
names... only the
owners of the "estancias" are mentioned along with the
number of
people that inhabit each of the "estancias" but there is some

interesting geographic, demographic, ethnographic and economic

information in it.  The names that are mentioned
include:

Antonio de Castro
Lorenzo de Miramontes
Tomasina de
Haro
Hernando Lamas
Martin Gonzalez
Juan de Miramontes
Domingo de
Lamas
Martin Tello de Orozaco
Martin Lopez

Melendes
Francisco de Luna
Pedro de Solis
Antonio de Rivera

Hi Arturo!

Please, please, please send me a copy. Most of the
names on this list are my wife's.

thanks Arturo. . .great idea and where did you find that information? Is
it on a FHL film? or a book? give us the references so we can find it
also. I might be related to Lorenzo de Miramontes. . .not sure though.

Father's paranthetical name

Hi Arturo:

Commonly in the case of erroneous write in the manuscript records, the information that appear between parenthesis is a error then, next to the close parenthesis (or between rows), should appear the correction; in this case: "Telésforo Gutiérrez" is the truly father of the principal. In other cases, I had found some corrections to the erroneous data with the "digo" word to meaning that the previous word, or words writhed in the record are bad, and the word or words next to the "digo" is the correction.

Father's paranthetical name

I had run across this before with another record that I must have not
gotten a copy of and if I remember correctly, I think your first
theory is correct Jose.

In this record, Jose Maria Miramontes appears as the padrino later in
the record, along with his wife. I think that what happened was that
perhaps the padrinos went to baptize the child without the father and
the sacristan must have written down the wrong name on whatever he
was recording on and then the priest corrected the record when he
wrote it into the book? Is this the way the process works?

In the other record, the grandfather is erroneously listed as the
father (in parenthesis) and then appears as the maternal
grandfather. I think that once the priest started writing out the
whole record, he must have run across the conflicting information and
corrected it, but left in the paranthetical name to match the
original information that was taken at the actual ceremony...

The baptismal record is from 1907 in

Father's paranthetical name

Victor,  that sounds logical.  I had thought of that also, but in
the example given, the grandparents surname names didn't match either surname of
the father.

I will venture my opinion regarding this matter.  I
haven't found any similar record but this is my opinion.

I believe both names refer to
the same person, Jose Maria Miramontes and Telesforo Gutierrez.  But the
scribe, unwilling to act against his conscience and being in any way
untruthful, he decided to write the person's baptismal given name and the
person's self-declared, newly (for whatever reasons) adopted name.
Besides, the church's sacramental books were privy objects, or so they thought
at that time, so who would question?.

Joseph,

I too wish that you could be here. I had the privilege of meeting with you, Helyn, Rich and Kitty in August and wish we could be closer to have more face to face meetings. I guess as Jonathan says that is why we are planning to meet in Salt Lake next October but it seems ooh so long to wait. (sigh).

I don't have a video camera and I'm hoping someone else in the group will have one.

Meeting in Sacramento

Robert, Irma and Alicia:

I am just delighted to have enough interest. I think we should time
it around Alicia's schedule since she is the one who has the longer
drive. I'll coordinate with Alicia for a time and date and get back
to the rest of the group.

Maria,

I would love to meet with you and anyone else in the group. I go up there once or twice a month as my daughter lives in Roseville, my mom in Citrus Heights, my sister in Auburn and my brother in Carmichael, all within close proximity of Sacaramento.

Thanks for the invite, let me know where and when.

introduction

Welcome Sally,

I wanted to mention that I have a Villalobos line from Lagos and
several Diaz lines (one from Jalostotitlan). I also have a Luna line
from Tepechitlan, Zac. When you have some time please take a look at
my genealogy reports and see if we have any matches.

Regards,

Maria Cortez
