How can I search files in Sevilla, there are files in Ancestry?
That's an incredible connection! I know that when I discovered that my parents are related to each other, they weren't quite as distantly related, but my parents did not have an idea of their relationship. Their immigrant ancestors came at different times, but settled in the same city, next door to one another. Later, their descendants (my parents) married. It turned out that my grandmas are cousins-- no one knew.
It's not incredible once you look at their genealogies, but considering the distance, it came as a bit of a shock. That's one of the many reasons I enjoy this hobby-- it uncovers the mysteries of the past and clarifies the pieces of my genealogical puzzle.

Unfortunately rape has been part of many wars throughout human history, including the ones among different tribes before the Spaniards arrived, the Conquest of Mexico, and even wars in the 20th and 21st centuries. When the Spaniards arrived many times the local authorities would give them gifts such as gold, food, and slaves including women. So, yes, many Spaniards raped indigenous people, but chances are indigenous warriors were also doing the same to their neighbours before the Spaniards conquered them all. Many indigenous tribes were also cruel and mean to their enemies and nice to their friends and allies, even as late as the 1800’s in some places like Coahuila where I live. However, not all the blood mixing before and after the Spaniards arrived occurred through rape, there were also a lot of marriages and other kinds of consensual relations.
I doesn’t matter where in the planet you live, you may be Mexican, European, Asian, African, Middle-Eastern or whatever, chances are centuries ago, if not years or decades, some of your ancestors were killing their neighbours while others were being killed by them. There’s nothing anybody can do now about it except learning form the mistakes of the past and trying to avoid them in the present and future. Despite all the wars and violence we see in the news, this era may be the most peaceful period in human history (Google “Is human violence on the wane?”), so it seems we are making some progress.
As for why do Mexicans look up to Aztecs, it’s because they have a lot to do with our national identity. The original Aztecs were a tribe from a place named Aztlan which left their home looking for a promised land. At certain point they separated with great sorrow in two groups and one of them finally found the promise land in a small island named Mexico, inside the lake of Texcoco, and there they founded their city Mexico-Tenochtitlan. They knew they had arrived to their promised land when they found an eagle eating a serpent while standing on a nopal. When they settled there they took the name of Mexicas or Mexicans. After the conquest the city took the shortened name of Mexico and began to grow as the lake slowly disappeared under it. Then the Spaniards gave the name Mexico to a big territory within the New Spain and after the War of Independence the whole country took the name of Mexico and the inhabitants were known as Mexicans (the original name of the Aztecs in their little island). Soon the flag of the new country started showing in the center a picture of the sign the Aztecs saw in their promised land: eagle eating a serpent while standing on a nopal, even adding the island of Mexico and the water of the lake. That’s currently portrayed in our flag and seal. So, as you see, a big part of our national identity (flag, seal, name of the country, name of the people) is deeply rooted in the Aztec culture.

yes, that did happen(throughout history men have been known to rape women, I'm not saying that all men are guilty of this, but rape has been in existence for at least a couple thousand years). for example, hernan cortez, during his lifetime, raped both la malinche and isabel de moctezuma.
however not all mestizos were products of rape. consensual sexual relationships(regardless if the couple was married or not) between Spaniards and the indigenous people did exist though. Usually these relationships were between a Spaniard man and an indigenous women, but the gender inverse did exist too.

the mexicans look up to the aztecs because they were the most recent advanced pre-columbian civilization/empire in mexico. also not all mexicans look up to the aztecs. i personally don't care for them, but i had a teacher who was either 100% indigenous mexican or at least close to it(you can tell by looking at him), who hated the aztecs.
the irony is that before spain colonized Mexico, the aztecs were hated by the other tribes due to their cruelty.

My bad, I didn't read the next pages. Clemente de Acuna is an informant that stated that the groom and bride were actually related. I had to draw a little family tree to find the relationship between the two. The common ancestors were Pedro Cid Caldera and Maria Carrillo.
First the groom: Pedro Cid Caldera and Maria Carrillo had a daughter, whose name is unknown by the informant. This woman had a daugher named Maria Rosales, who married Jose Carlos de Godoi. They had a daughter, also named Maria Rosales, who married Martin de Arceo. This couple had a daughter, Clara de Arceo, who was the mother of the groom, Francisco Miguel Marquez.
Now the bride: Pedro Cid Caldera and Maria Carrillo had another daughter named Clara Cid Caldera. She had a son named Nicolas Caldera, who married Leonor Rodarte. This couple had a son, Nicolas Cruz Caldera, who married Barbara Casilda, and they had a daugher, the bride, Anna de Santiago Caldera.

I just read your document and it is about the matrimonial information of Franco. Migul. Marquez, an illegitimate child of Clara de Arzeo, and Anna de Santiago Caldera, daughter of Nicolas de la Cruz Caldera and Barbara Casilda de Vlloo. I read the previous pages, and it does mention that there is no blood relationship. On the information of the groom, however, it states an impedimento because he asked the mother of the bride for her hand, not the father. That could be the reason this dispensa made it to Guadalajara for further investigation.
oh ok, but what's the significance of the names mentioned : martin arceo, juana rosales, clemene acuna etc. though? sorry if you i'm bugging you, i'm trying to find out if those following names are realtives of my ancestors or not.

Other surnames for his family are Juarez, which is his wife's family. I do not know his mother's maiden name.
Other names related to the family are Rangel and Franco. Other surnames later married into the family are Paramo and Chavez.

I looked at the link you posted, and I noticed that Francisco's brother was living with him-- Anastacio Perez. I found Anastacio living in the same house in 1940, with other Perezes-- perhaps Anastacio's children? Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/arn3bfz .

If Francisco isn't living with his sons in 1940, he either moved or lived in some other location, or he died. I would suggest trying to find a death record for Anastacio or Francisco, so you can see if a city is listed on it. The location of burial should be listed on the death certificate, and maybe they have records, or the local library. Also, you could try obituaries.

The only obituary I have found has been for Francisco's wife, Nieves, who passed in 1924.

I think this is made more difficult, as Francisco's name is not unique. You could get a copy of Nieves' death certificate, see where she is buried, and then see if Francisco is buried next to her. A specific death date is what you will need to get a death certificate-- the county won't really search for the correct Francisco Perez.
By the way, I work in Orange County!

Yes, there are so very many "Francisco Perez's" out there to search through. It is very difficult.
I have a copy of Nieves' death certificate and have been to where she is buried, he is not there. At least not when I checked. Perhaps I need to ask another researcher at the cemetery..???

I would try, Moyahua, Jalpa or Nochistlan, they are the 3 largest municipalities close to Juchipila. I know in my research for Nochistlan, I occasionally find records for Juchipila residents. Having said that, Jalpa is also short on records for those early years and Moyahua's records begin in 1815 but they are the nearest Municipalities to Juchipila.

I have found some records in Moyahua (but only from 1814 on) I just hope they did not get destroyed during the Revolution. If you look under Matrimonios de Moyahua 1814-1823 image 2/100 indicates that "it was; Libro primero en el curato de Santiago de Moyahua erigido en la division hecha del de Juchipila....." empezando Mayo de 1814 y hecha por Don Jose Feliciano de Sierra primer cura de ese partido. Guadalajara, Yahualica & Nochistlan are my next choices since they are fairly close to Juchipila.

Does anyone know where to search for military records for Spanish soldiers of Nueva Galicia for the years 1600 to 1700's?

I am not certain that what applies to Nueva Galicia would be the same as other kingdoms of New Spain. However, at least in Nuevo Leon, many of my ancestors were frequently listed as captains. However, from what I understand by reading several sources, is that such title corresponded to heads of a militia often associated to the protections of their lands, whether hacienda or econmienda, and not because they belong to a regiment of the crown. En other cases I've found individuals listed as soldier, lieutenant, and even General, but in all these cases in their marriage certificate, or burial a note regarding the association to a regiment or presidio is given. It is possible that another member of the gorup could provide us additional information in this regard.

También depende si eran Capitanes a Guerra los cuales eran títulos por lo general ligados a los de Alcalde Mayor, Teniente de Gobernador o Corregidor.
En estos casos es conveniente consultar los Libros de Gobierno de la Audiencia de la Nueva Galicia.

My family lived in El Durasno, I was there in 2003 for a visit, my Dad had not gone there since he was 16 in 1936.. His parents, Epitacio Castanon and Juana Sanchez were both from El Durazno/Durasno. They left during the revolution in 1916.

You're correct there is "El Durazno" in "el municipio de Jerez". However
there is another small "rancho" by the same name in "el municipio de
Atolinga". It is between Atolinga and Tlaltenango, Zacatecas. My
grandmother, Rosa Haro's family was from there. I also have Castaneda
ancestors that are from this "El Durazno".

My name is RoseMary Fabian (jojofab) and I am new to this site. I am retired and thus have time to work on four genealogical trees. I have not done much work for the past 9 months due to my 94-year old mother’s illness and death this December 2012. However, I am determined to get back into my research. I began researching in December of 2010 and have gotten far mostly because of the areas of my study, which have good records on Family Search. Also this site along with the Guadalajara Dispensations site has been very beneficial. I am blocked on some branches of my trees, but will keep searching. My parents were each widowed when they married and I am also researching their previous spouse’s trees for my half brothers and sisters on each side. I may have some mistakes on my trees, but I try very hard to verify through baptisms, marriages, dispensations, and death records. I also look at brothers and sisters in each family to get hints on family relations and through logical timelines.
My paternal side is the Fabian/Torres. On this tree, most branches are from the de la Torre side of the family. They are de la Torre, Medina, Hernandez, Ruiz de Esparza leading me to Lope Ruiz de Esparza, Maldonado Sapata, Gentil, Lopes de Elizaldi, Sotelo, Jaen, Montanes, Sotomayor, Ruelas, Sandi, Macias, Avila, Rubalcava, Esquibel, Acosta, de la Cadena, Carillo and Sanches. Also Huerta, Ximenez, Gonzales, de los Reyes, Garcia, Collazo, Guerrero and Chaves. Most of my ancestors are from Aguascalientes, Pinos, Zacatecas, Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco and Teocaltiche, Jalisco. The Fabian, Perez, Jaques, Ruelas, side of the family are from San Miguel de Mezquital (Miguel Auza), Zacatecas. These records only go into the mid-1800’s. Much of the information that I have on the Martin I and Lope Ruiz de Esparza I, I obtained from various genealogical sites including this site, and I am still not sure who the originator of this family is as I have seen two different versions, such as Simon Ruiz de Esparza and Sancho Ruiz de Esparza. A lot of the information on Juan Montanes I got from an article written by Mary Lou Mantagna’s for a Somos Primos newsletter, which was helpful in both verifying my own research and helping me to get this family straight.
The Sandoval/Aguilera tree are mostly from Nochistlan, Zacatecas and surrounding areas such as Cuquio and Mexticacan, and other towns in that area. This tree is very interesting and confusing as there are many branches descending from Diego Delgadillo/Petrona de Islas. There are six branches that descend from this one family on this tree. All leading back to Bernardino de Islas, Moscoso Sandoval, and into LeBasares, etc. There is another branch that descends from Luis Delgadillo. This tree also has Yanes, Perez de Frias, Ballin, Aguayo, Duran, Casillas, Gonzales, Marin, Penaflosa, Ruiz, Ximenes and Felis. This tree also connects with families in the Fabian/Torres tree through Sotomayor and Montanes.
In the Orozco/Alvarez tree most ancestors are from Lagos de Moreno. This is also an interesting tree that stems from the Alvarez side of the family, as the Orozco side did not go far. The Alvarez does not extend so far either, but there was an Alvarez married to a Villalobos, which made the search interesting. Beginning with Avalos, Cervantes, Villasenor, Retamosa, Cardenas Avila, Macias Valadez. Also, Martin de Campo, Vallin, Lopez de la Cruz, Tiscareno and leading back to Lope Ruiz de Esparza through a different branch. It is very interesting how these three trees tie back to the same founding families.
My maternal side is the Frausto/Lozano’s. This tree is from Leon, Guanajuato and I have not gotten them further back than the early 1800’s, but some ancestors go back to Tepic, Narayit and then to Guadalajara and then into San Francisco del Rincon and Leon and Silao. Surnames are Aguirre, Fuentes, Nunes, Torres, Castillo, Urrutia, Velasques, Lopez, and Sanches. I know this is not the field of interest for this site, but I thought that I would mention it here, as it is my fourth tree. So, these are my areas of research and hope to be able to connect with anyone who also shares some of these surnames and areas of research.

In going through your post I was trying to decipher whether you had done your own research or whether the information you had was from other people's research you had found on -line.
I can tell you that for me personally, while I love to find and read on the internet other people's findings, I don't include it as factual in my research until I personally go through and one by one, identify each person from the actual records and place each individual in their respective place on the family tree and have a record of the document that can corroborate the findings as shown on the family tree.
Not saying that you haven't done that, just saying that it's my method to ensure that I'm on the right track and that it is indeed my family I'm tracking and identifying as mine.
Good luck in your search and re-search and thanks for the introduction.

I have found that the only way to do research is to trace your family by verifying data. How else would you know if you are following your own family line? It would be absurd to use information from other sites and place them on my tree without verifying if they are indeed a branch of my family line and to verify that fact by searching for those baptisms and marital information.
That is not to say that once you get back to the late 1500’s and early 1600’s where records are less informative or less available that you can get hints from reading books, visiting Family History Libraries, and looking at other genealogical sites to get information to guide you in your research. And even then that does not mean that what you find is necessarily the truth, as expert genealogists have been known to make mistakes. But there are some very good genealogists out there who share their knowledge and experience.
It is unfortunate that you chose this medium, sent to all Nuestros Ranchos members, to air your confusion. A personal email would have been appreciated.

From what you state in this message, you conduct your own research to verify all your data. So sorry if this was hurtful and embarrasing to you, this was not my intent to make you feel bad, especially when this was your introduction to Nuestros Ranchos and someone questions your methods.
One of the reasons we send to all is because sometimes we learn from the postings to all and sometimes those who are new to research believe that everything that's out there has been verified and this does not appear to be the case with you. I appreciate your message and apology. I submitted so many surnames because that is where my research has taken me. I don't think that genealogy is rocket science. It is detective work and logic. It means following your ancestor’s records of which it has been fairly easy on certain branches of my trees because of the cities where the records are indexed. It is important for me to ensure that I am following the correct line and is why I cross-reference by checking marital information with baptisms, siblings records, death records, dispensations, etc. On some lines I have not gone upward because of lack of records, so I have gone outward to better understand the family line.
The site that has taken me this far is the Family Search Site, which is a godsend in itself for I can access microfilm of the original church records. The fact that I read and write Spanish has helped, although old world Spanish has been a lesson in itself. My name is RoseMary Fabian (jojofab) and I am new to this site. I am retired and thus have time to work on four genealogical trees. I have not done much work for the past 9 months due to my 94-year old mother’s illness and death this December 2012. However, I am determined to get back into my research. I began researching in December of 2010 and have gotten far mostly because of the areas of my study, which have good records on Family Search. Also this site along with the Guadalajara Dispensations site has been very beneficial. I am blocked on some branches of my trees, but will keep searching. My parents were each widowed when they married and I am also researching their previous spouse’s trees for my half brothers and sisters on each side. I may have some mistakes on my trees, but I try very hard to verify through baptisms, marriages, dispensations, and death records. I also look at brothers and sisters in each family to get hints on family relations and through logical timelines.

My name is Pauline and I am new to this group. I am now an official "serious" researcher.
I am researching the names Alvarez, Diaz, Orozco, Marioner & Magallanes. The towns are Momax, Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, La Playa, Tabasco-Zacatecas. I do not know the ranch but I do know that one existed in the 1870's location unknown and again in the 1930's in La Playa. I am particularly interested in my maternal grandfather's birth record and lineage as for some reason he was a very secretive man and would not discuss his heritage, birth place or family. My mother in her entire life only met one of his first cousin's (Maximo Diaz) and his cousin's father (his uncle) Erculano Diaz. My mother tells me (information from his 2nd wife) that his grandfather (Gregorio ?) came over as part of Carlota's army- when Maximillian was killed- he fled and went into hiding. Rumor has it that he stole several cantarros of money and lived his life in fear. This Gregorio died in Tabasco and only spoke French. My grandfather immigrated to the US in 1917 but frequently went back and forth
having lived in Mexico in the 1930's, 1940's (Zacatecas) and again from 1960-s through the mid 1970's (Chapala, Jal). He married my grandmother Elvira Lopez in Los Angeles in 1931, later divorcing her and marrying Opal Kinney in the late 1950's in Chihuahua. My grandfather also used several dates of birth in his border crossings.

Thanks so much for your generous offer of research in Portezuelo. And you're right, of course: it is San Juan Bosco—I must have been thinking 'la Barca' when I typed the other ...
As for the records of Portesuela, I have found the marriage of Miguel Aceves and María Josepha Benites (1742) and the baptisms of three of their children (1744, 1746, and 1747) in Portesuela in FamilySearch under La Barca, San Juan Bosco.

there is a child for Albino Ramires and Sotero Mercado, Maria Josefa baptism 9 Oct 1814 in film #439844 but it's a really hard film to follow and I couldn't find it but if you can it should give you another generation.

Maria Victoria's parents were Marcial de Avila and Maxima Gonzalez born abt. 1785 and they were both from Jerez, Zacatecas. That is as far as T've gotten, since I could not keep going through just my mom's maternal line since I found the baptism record for Maria Victoria De Avila - Gonzalez (baptized on 11 March 1821 in Jerez) and under her maternal grandparents (Maxima Gonzalez's parents) it says "Abuela no dio razon" and only lists her maternal grandfather as Manuel Gonzalez. I also noticed that they were all from Cienega, Jerez, Zacatecas as far as I have reached with Maxima Gonzalez (1785) my maternal ancestors were there for a very long time since 1785 or maybe longer once I keep finding more people.
good morning. I'm really glad my files were able to help you in your search. I'm still trying to figure out who in your family married someone in mine. I only put people in my files that are associated through marriage with mine. I do have lots of family from Cienega and will let you know when I figure it out. My base person is my Dad Chet (Aniceto) Castanon, if you put that in pedigree in text form it will show my lineage from Zacatecas.
Can you share with me the date of Maria Patrocinio Dimas baptism? I can't find her and would like to add her to the records. What do you have that shows that your Victoria is the same one as the daughter of Marcial and Maxima?

So where was Maria de la Rosa born? do you have the online record? If so
supply the url. I saw some children born to a Juan and Victoria in Jerez
around the 1850's but without a location it is difficult to narrow down the
search. Location is one of your best clues in genealogy.

Hi :) thank you so much for your help and unfortunately no I do not know where Maria de la Rosa was born I only know the information on the post. And actually I only have the record for Refugia Dimas Rosa. I do know that Patrocinia Dimas Rosa was born in Jerez, Zacatecas but that is the only think I forgot to mention on my post. I also just looked for those records you found and yes those are her daughters and I believe then that her name was Maria Leocadia Rosa - Avila since on Patrocinia's baptism record it shows Santiago Dimas and Maria Rosa as her parents and lists the same grandparents shown on Petra Dimas - Rosa's baptism record.
I just listened to a very interesting podcast about the Spanish Inqusition.
I plan to take time over the next week to go through the records for late 1600's and early 1700's in Jerez. I will be looking primarily for Rodarte, Caldera, de Avila, and Munoz.
I have an ancestor from there named Bernardo de Marungo, son of Agustin de Marungo and Gertrudis Ruiz de Esparza. If any of these surnames turn up, please let me know.
could you see if you can find any records with juan del torre and clara chavez please. see if you could find entries for anyone with the last name del real, or quezada also, please xD.
