HI everyone,
Apologies first if this has been covered before , but I searched all the prior threads and didnt see anything on her Spanish roots.

HI everyone,
Just as an update to my last post. I found what I think is Beatriz info from the Pasajeros A India list for 1535. It states that her mother was Leonor Hernandez. My research via the historical site for Colima states Teresa de Recalde.

Can anyone shed light on her mother's name?

Thanks,
Pauline

Danny,

"Ingeniero" means engineer but does not specify what specialty in engineering.

Here's what the Collins dictionary lists:

ingeniero , a sm/f ( ingeniero a veces SF ) engineer
mi hermana es ingeniera o ingeniero/my sister's an engineer
♦ ingeniero/a aeronáutico/a aeronautical engineer
♦ ingeniero/a agrónomo/a agronomist, agricultural expert
♦ ingeniero/a de caminos, canales y puertos civil engineer
♦ ingeniero/a de mantenimiento maintenance engineer
♦ ingeniero/a de minas mining engineer
♦ ingeniero/a de montes forestry expert
♦ ingeniero/a de sonido sound engineer

Jewish ancestry of Juan Aguilar Solorzano's mother

Dear Bill,

Maria Diaz de Saldaña Converted to Catholicism about 1483. When her her closest relatives were expelled from Spain she inherited their property (farmland and houses).

Hernando was married to Francisca Monroy.

Later I will post the descendants of the siblings of Juan "el mozo " Aguilar Solorzano (Junior)
A lot more research needs to be done between numbers 4-8.

Family Search Indexing

Have you heard about this? Family Search is allowing indexers to choose projects.

Comment

Hi Sherri,

Thank you for the info. This is exactly the tool I was looking for and I did not know family search had it available- I guess since it is in the pilot stages they are not promoting it too much yet?

I downloaded the chrome extension to start indexing on family search already. And I worked on indexing a record as a test and it was very easy. The system allows you to index any record that has not been indexed so you can pick any record/film you want to work on.
Apparently, the files indexed with this tool are not searchable in the regular family search page yet, but only through this family search pilot tool. But they do plan to make them searchable in the near future on their website.

I agree that it would be great to have a Los Altos/Nuestros Ranchos Group for this tool- please let me know if one is set up to join in. The benefit to be part of a group appears to be that researchers can search easily all the records indexed by a group- this would allow good collaboration between people working on the same region/area.

Thanks again Sherri.
Minerva

Comment

You are correct if the 200 plus members of NR all helped index it would be amazing.
I also stopped indexing because I got frustrated with their accuracy assessment. Granted I did make mistakes, so a review process is necessary. You download data and enter it using a prescribed format, then another person reviews your work for accuracy. Some projects were easier than others, for example, I enjoyed the 1940's Census, but indexing ship manifests was difficult.
I had to study the handwriting and possible names in foreign languages, only to have the work considered erroneous.
I feel I need to concentrate on my family genealogy now, before I run out of time.
I encourage you to try it, many of us on this forum would benefit from your work, and it would be a labor of love.

Comment

That's good to know.

I did indexing a few years ago for them. I was accurate but received too much criticism from them because I didn't use the Ñ "énye" or put the accents over some of the letters (that have it) in the Spanish language.

Many other indexers didn't do it either, and I decided to give up indexing due to the "nit-picking".

Laura, the numbers are for the page number not the Familysearch number
I found Celia Sanchez on page 199
I found Cruz Sanchez on page 235.. their fathers were brother and the grandparents are Simon Sanchez and Celedonia Herrera.

Laura,

The numbers next to the names represent page no.

You can find entry for Celsa (169) in image 199 (Right side at the bottom), Cruz (235) in image 235 (Right side at the bottom) and Sacramento (548) in image 413 (Left side at the top.

Good luck in your search.

Comment

Laura

I took a look at the online Family Search catalog for Tepetongo. There are two entires for church records. The first does not give any clues as to whether or not the 1861 church records exist, but the second shows gaps for 1860 and 1861. This suggests that the records may be lost, or at best not microfilmed.

Sometimes the records are out of order, or may exist in a another volume. However, from what I see, I'm not optimistic. But I would look in the marriage and IM volumes that cover that period just in case. Check the next volume of baptisms just to be sure.

Civil registration of births in Tepetongo begins in 1861. My experience has been that you often cannot find both church and civil entires for the children; you'll sometimes different children in each.

Sorry for the less-than-optimistic news.

Rosa Maria de Fonseca parents

Hello forum,

Minerva,

There was a Francisco de Isassi m. Nicolasa Baez de la Cerda Dec. 01 1668 in Sta. Ma. de los Lagos too. This Francisco might be the witness. I'll continue my search in this direction.

Thanks for your comment.

Comment

Hi Ruben,
I am not familiar with this family but Francisco Issasi was one of the witnesses listed on the marriage certificate of Juan Garcia and Rosa Maria.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-VY9F-KW?i=143&wc=3JZR-SP8%…

Did Domingo de Fonseca and Felipa de Issasi have a kid named Francisco who could have been old enough to be a witness at his sister wedding? Or do you know if Felipa de Issasi had a brother named Francisco? Maybe that could be further proof that Rosa Maria is daughter of Domingo de Fonseca and Felipa de Issasi.

Sorry I wish I could help more. Good luck on your search.

Searching for information on Antonio Pantaleon or Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez

Hi everyone.

Looking for help in finding records on:
(1) Antonio Pantaleon &
(2) Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez (Antonio's owner and possible father).

Comments

Comment

Mario,

the father of Ana Maria Placencia is Cristobal Placencia.

Josepha Ruiz and Cristobal Placencia baptised a boy in 1740 in Jalostitlan and they baptized a girl in 1742 in Jalostitlan

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NK91-DGH

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NKSM-7KM

I also looked up this one where Josepha Ruiz and Xptobal(Cristobal) de la Trinidad baptised a girl named Juana Maria de Santiago, mulata libre, in 1755, so sometimes he didn't use Placencia as his last name. The padrinos were Juan de Dios Gutierrez and his daughter Maria Regina Gutierrez, probably relatives of your Gutierrez family.

Comment

Danny, thank for making out the name "Cristobal" out of Xptobal. I don't know how long I looked at that document to figure it out with no luck. Now, it looks clear to me after you point it out.

I was also thinking that Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez, slave owner of Antonio Placencia, could be the father--illegitimate of course of Antonio Placencia.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could find information on Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez?

Again, thank you for the helping me find more leads.

Have a nice day!
--Mario A. Gutierrez

Comment

Mario,

i don't really know how to figure out if Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez is the father of Antonio Pantoleon, although it seems like it makes sense since the mother lists the father as padres no conocidos, but unless you find another record that lists him as the father it's probly going to be hard to figure out.

i also dont know who Antonio Gil Gutierrez is, but he may be connected to this family here:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-XYBZ-K

this is a marriage for Don Jose Antonio Gutierrez and Doña Maria Andrea Iñiguez in 1802. Don Antonio Gutierrez parents in this marriage are Don Andres Gutierrez and Doña Margarita Placencia, both would probly been married close to you Antonio Pantoleon, so they might be related to your Don Antonio Gil Gutierrez. I don't know anything about this family really other than they also use the name Gutierrez de Hermosillo.

Defunciones Zacatecas, Zacatecas. 1683-1686

https://familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=3P9S-GP8%3A147580301%2C…

Hi Everyone,
Lopez de la Cerda came up in a previous email and I want to ask if anyone
in the NR forum has any information on the grandparents of Phelipe Lopez De
La Serda Marin , who married Juan

Does anyone know whether Bill Figueroa is still part of this group? I was researching a recent find where my ancestors are from this family line, specifically Simona Lopes de la Cerda and Nicolas Martin. I'd like to find Bill's sources to keep on researching this family line. Thank you.

Juan, Alice & Jose,

Josepha married Isidro Martin de Sotomayor (date unknown) and Simona married Nicolas Martin de Sotomayor (17 Sep 1667) in Teocaltiche. Nicolas, Isidro and Maria were brothers and sister. As far as I know, only the children of Agustin and Maria carried the surname Lopez de la Cerda in Teocaltiche and Aguascalientes.

For my fellow genealogists:

Maria de Islas y Sotomayor indicated in her will dated 8 Feb 1713 that she and her late husband Agustin Lopez de la Cerda had five children (Felix Juan el mayor, Juan el menor, Agustina, Esteban and Antonio) and that they all married. Her testament can be accessed online in the Aguascalientes archives.

Felix Juan el mayor age 29 married 6 Feb 1701 AGS to Elvira Lopez Muñoz (aka Elvira de Cobos), hija legitima de Miguel de Cobos and Teresa Lopes Muños. I stress hija legitima because Elvira’s mother was deceased and her father was a priest when Elvira married. On that same day in AGS Juan el menor age 27 married Teresa Lopez Muñoz (aka Teresa de Cobos), sister of Elvira. When the brothers provided their marriage information on January 17 and 18, 1701, one of their witnesses was Francisco Martin de Sotomayor, their primo hermano.

It appears that 1701 was a busy year for the Lopez de la Cerda family. On 20 Dec 1701 the two younger brothers also gave information to marry. Esteban age 22 planned to marry Josepha Ramirez de Hermosillo. Antonio age 21 wanted to marry her sister Rosa Maria Ramirez de Hermosillo. Both women were born and raised in Jalostotitlan and were the daughters of Nicolas Ramirez de Hermosillo (deceased) and Francisca Gutierrez de Barba. I assume they did marry although I do not have the actual marriage dates.

Much of this data, including their ages, is available in the 1699-1719 Marriage Information records of Cienega de Mata, Jalisco (Film 640168). You can find them on Family Search. I'm reading off of an old Family Group Sheet and do not have internet links to give you.

So we have the two older brothers marrying sisters, as well as the two younger brothers marrying sisters. As for the 5 Feb 1713 marriage of Juan to Anna Maria Muñoz de la Barba, I haven’t seen the document and assume it is his second marriage. And I wonder who that Antonio could be who married Josepha Alonso de los Hinojos in 1695. These are not my direct ancestors, so I don’t have extensive data. For that reason I do not have anything on Agustina.

Mary Lou

Start with Image 117 in Film 640168. The four MI documents are very close to each other.

Correction: Maria's 8 Feb 1713 will lists six children: Felix, Juan el mayor, Juan el menor, Agustina, Esteban and Antonio. I missed a comma. So, I don't know which Juan married Teresa Lopez Muñoz.

Comment

It is obvious I am computer illiterate. I wanted to add my comments in this group. But somehow started a new string. Mea culpa. I and I hope you will continue to add comments here and ignore the one I started.

Alicia,

I think it is because people in Mexico heard that French had "settled"
there, not knowing the true history. They equate blue eyes only with the
"recent" foreigners and not their own Spanish ancestors.

My father could have killed me when we stopped for lunch and gas in a small
village back in the 1960s on our way to Jerez. I noticed that many of the
people there were dark, but had blue eyes. I very impertently asked the
hojos azules?" (God, what a dumb question, but I was so curious, and young
and dumb). He just smiled and said, "los franceses vinieron aqui". My
father dressed me up and down for that, but I got an answer that satifsfied
me at the time. Now I know better.

are descended from the French. I hear it all the time and I've even
alienated some people when I give them a few facts as to the short time
period in which the French occupied Mexico and that it's simply not possible
or very unlikely that they could be French.

Jose and Alice,

Agustin Lopez de la Cerda and Lucía Rodríguez de Victoria were married
(veiled) 13 Nov 1635 in San Luis Potosi. He is the first Lopez de la Cerda
in my database. His son Agustin and daughters Josepha and Simona lived in
the Aguascalientes-Teocaltiche area where they married and had children. I
have a lot of information about their descendants. Let me know if I can

Hello Bill,
Thanks so much for your offer to help.  I'm not sure if we're on the same track, as my De la Serda can only be traced back to Jose Manuel de la Serda who married Ma Guadalupe Lisalde 11/13/1767, in Lampazaos de Naranjo, Nuevo Leon.  I'd be thrilled if indeed, we were researching the same ancestors.  Thanks again.  Alice

Bill, Alice & Jose,

I'm glad someone responded to my email from February and hopefully we can
collaborate on the Lopez de la Serda name. I have the following:

Juan Manuel Lopez de Cerda casado con Maria Guadalupe Farfan on April 25,
1792 in Teocaltiche Jalisco. Juan Manuel was babtized June 28, 1750 in
Teocaltiche, Jalisco (nacio en Rio Chico, Jalisco) and his parents are
listed as Phelipe Lopez and Juana Perez.

I have Phelipe Lopez de la Serda casado con Juana Perez de Frias on May 21,
1749 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco (vecinos de Rio Chico, Jalisco) and their
parents are listed as: Matheo Lopez de la Serda and Jacinta Marin and
Fabian Perez de Frias (difunto) and Rosa Flores, respectively.

My trail for the Lopez de la Serda, Marin, Perez de Frias, and Flores ends
here. Do you guys have anymore info on these people?

Bill thanks for your information, maybe I can tie Phelipe Lopez de Serda to
the Agustin, Josepha or Simona as you have listed in your response.

Saludos,

Juan, Alice & Jose,

Phelipe Lopez de la Cerda had a sister named Juana Lopez de la Cerda, who was baptized 14 Jun 1711 in Teocaltiche. I have not been able to determine if their father Matheo Lopez de la Cerda (married to Jacinta Marin) is related to Agustín Lopez de la Cerda, but will continue searching all available records. In case you're interested, Juana Lopez de la Cerda married Francisco de Pedroza 28 Apr 1745 in Teocaltiche, where they had four sons baptized: Juan Gregorio (1746), Ignacio Ventura (1748), Joseph Juachin Mariano (1750) and Juan Antonio de la Cruz Pedroza (1753).

Agustin Lopez de la Cerda married Lucia Rodriguez de Victoria 13 Nov 1635 in San Luis Potosi. Agustin's parents were Francisco Lopez and Francisca de los Angeles, and Lucia's parents were Antonio Rodriguez and Catalina de Victoria. Antonio and Catalina were married 01 Jun 1601 in Patzcuaro, Mich.

Agustin Lopez de la Cerda had a brother named Miguel Lopez de la Cerda, who married Maria Magdalena Lozano 15 Feb 1635 in Aguascalientes. Miguel was buried in Aguascalientes 29 Oct 1666. In her final will Magdalena Lozano declared that they had no children, so that line ends there. Magdalena Lozano died less than a month later (23 Nov 1666) and was buried in Aguascalientes.

I have identified five children of Agustin Lopez de la Cerda and Maria de Isla y Sotomayor: Juan Felix (el menor), Juan (el mayor), Agustina, Esteban and Antonio.

- Juan Felix married Theresa de Cobos 6 Feb 1701 in Aguascalientes. They had at least five children: Maria Theresa, Maria, Christobal, Maria Theresa de los Dolores and Michaela Lopez de la Cerda, all born between 1701-1722.

- Juan married Anna Maria Muñoz de la Barba 5 Feb 1713 in Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jal. I have identified three children: Agustin (b.1714), Santiago (b. ca1717) and Maria Vicenta Lopez de la Cerda (b. not known) all born at Cienega de Mata.

- Agustina and Esteban died young and were never married.

- Antonio who married Josepha Alonso de los Hinojos 12 Oct 1695 in Aguascalientes. They had at least five children: Antonia Lorenza, Onofre, Balthazar Manuel, Antonio Joseph and Maria Gertrudis Lopez de la Cerda, all born between 1700-1712.

Since Juana Lopez de la Cerda was born in Teocaltiche in 1711 she is in the same generation with the grandchildren of Agustin Lopez de la Cerda and Maria de Isla y Sotomayor (see above). Therefore, her parents Matheo Lopez de la Cerda and Jacinta Marin are in the same generation with Juan Felix, Juan, Agustina, Esteban and Antonio Lopez de la Cerda, sons of Agustin Lopez de la Cerda and Maria de Isla y Sotomayor. But Maria de Isla y Sotomayor listed her children in her final will and testament before she died in 1716, and she did not mention a son named Matheo. Back to the drawing board.

Saludos,
BILL FIGUEROA

Saludos,

Thanks so much for your information, unfortunately at this point in time I personally don't find a connection to my De la Serda's.  I'll keep your info and and perhaps with further research on my part there will be a connection.  Thanks again.  Alice

Hola Edgar,

No tuvieron hijos.

"Aguascalientes, Ags.

Does anyone know whether Bill Figueroa is still part of this group? I was researching a recent find where my ancestors are from this family line, specifically Simona Lopes de la Cerda and Nicolas Martin. I'd like to find Bill's sources to keep on researching this family line. Thank you.

Welcome, I merged the marriage record Danny provided and looked to see if there was any info on this couple. There is a Nicolas Curiel Gusman that had a son German in 1719 MM8M-VJT Familysearch ID. There are 7 added records to merge with Apolonia/polonia. I checked to see if there is alternate spellings for curiel only one (curriel). Other than this information, I didn't find anything. Good luck.

Welcome to the Forum Minerva. i'm sorry i don't really know anything about these particular families. i couldn't really find anything on them either, but the marriage of fernando Vizcarra and Josepha Polonia Curiel says Fernando is the son of Manuel Vizcarra and Josepha Guerrero and his wife Josepha Polonia Curiel is the daughter of German Curiel and Rita Gertrudis Gutierrez:

Margarita Ramirez or Sosa

Hello Nuestro Ranchos Forum,

Hi Danny,

Margarita Ramirez and Margarita de Sosa are the same person and the daughter Margarita uses both Ramirez and Sosa like her mother, Magdalena. She was baptized 22 July 1674:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-GRS9-KX

She was married 25 Feb 1690 at the age of 15:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-65T9-3R3

and she died 27 August 1724:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6S67-DBS

So, they are definitely the same person.

Finding a Roll Number vs Film Number

Hello friends,

I just remembered that once I went to the Archivo General de la Nación in Mexico City (Lecumberri) and I think there they have the same microfilms as Familsearch, but they list them by OAH roll number rather than microfilm number.
Best regards,

Hi,
I noticed the roll numbers you mention are preceded by the letters OAH, so I Googled "OAH 2989" and found this:

back - guadalajara dispensas indexes - Tumblr
guadalajaradispensas.tumblr.com/page/20
Translate this page
¡gracias por los aportes migueltren! https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18380-16563-38?cc=1874591&wc…. 001 168857. 002 oah 2989.

So I copied the web address:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18380-16563-38?cc=1874591&wc…

It takes you to film # 168857, OAH 2989 pt 4, Capellanías 1671-1859.

So I guess they divided the roll 2989 in several microfilms, the 4th one being 168857.

Good luck with your search.
