Michael:

Huizar is a very common name around Colotlan and Fresnillo is quite close to Colotlan so it is likely that the same families would migrate between these two towns.

I am trying to figure out what information it is that you are looking for. The file in your genealogy folder is very difficult to understand. I can help you try to organize your information into a standard genealogy report if you like.

I believe that Angie Godina has some Huizar lines in Colotlan.

Comentario

Yes, I have Huizar Family. I am tracing two different Huizar families. I believe them to be one in the same, but have not been able to confirm this yet.

The family from Colotlan, I can trace to about the early 1700's. Sebastian Huizar and Maria Teresa Magallanes married approx. 1720's. Their son Joseph Onorato Huizar married for the first time on 29 OCT 1767 to Francisca Petra Romero, then again on 11 MAR 1771 to Maria de Gracia Miramontes.

The family from Totatiche, I can trace to about the late 1700's, Anselmo Sotelo Huizar and his wife Maria Guadalupe Miramontes, married appox. 1780's. Their son Jose Benigno Huizar Miramontes was christened on 14 FEB 1799 and married on 3 FEB 1819 to Maria Eustaquia Campos.

Take a look here at my files:
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/13945

If you have a specific name, I can try looking it up in my family tree.

Angie Godina

Hello again! My name is Michael Huizar I do not know how to arrange my info. I have information on at least 400 Huizar's here in Texas, and a few in California. I obtained them from researching U.S. Census records dating back to 1870. The reason for this research is to try and solve a very old and conflicting story of who carved the Rose window of the San Jose Mission. history books say that Pedro Huizar is given credit for it. according to the story he arrived in San Antonio appointed by the King of Spain to survey the Missions and build an aquia to provide irrigation water to fields. the story also says that he carved the window in memory of his lost love Rosa, she was rumored to have died in shipwreck on her way to meet him. records say that he was born in Aguascalientes, but not sure where. I know that there are Huizar's in Aguascalientes, because i went there and met a person that lived in la colonia de los bosques that was a Huizar. i tried to find addresses of Huizar family on line but not one comes up. I want to tie all the Huizar families together for future generations to enjoy. i do not use the computer very well and only have about a years experience. so any help someone can give me in this forum will greatly apreciated. i do speak in spanish, and i understand all spainsh well, but i don't write it well. Angie Godina, thank you and every one in tring to help me..

Ruiz de Esparza in Aguascalientes

Tony,

You are correct about so many of us having the Ruiz de Esparza lineage. I have three lines with either Ruiz, Ruiz de Esparza or Esparza, depending on the records, they will interchange the Ruiz, the Esparza or Ruiz de Esparza.

Chucha

I've heard of Cuca but not Chucha for a woman. I heard this person
giving a lecture and he referred to so and so marrying a woman named
Chucha. IF this is a legitamate nickname what is it the nickname for?

Juan Luis,

Your English is fine. I do understand you. I am sure your English is better than my Spanish. I had a cousin named Jesus, and we called her Chui (pronounced Chu-ee). My mother had a tenant that had two German Shepherd dogs, a male and a female, and when they got in the house, she would say with a warning tone, "Chuuuu-chos! Chuuuu-chos!" The lady also had a big green parrot, and when it saw the dogs in the house, he too would call out "Chuuu-chos! Chuuuu-chos!" I thought that was so funny.

Emilie, isn't that ironic? My dad had a cousin named Chuchi or Chuchee
(don't know the spelling) but I believe her name was Maria de Jesus.
She lived in California and would come visit my grandparents (her aunt
and uncle) and my aunts and uncles (her cousins) in El Paso. Marge:)

Are you unsubscribing from the group or setting your mail to "No Mail"?

to set your mail to "No Mail" you would:

1) log in

2) go to "my account"

3) go to "Edit"

4) go to "My Mailing Lists"

5) set the mailing list(s) to "no mail" and click Submit

6) IF YOU are unsubscribing from the list then you would set the lists
to "Unsubscribe" and then click "submit"

7) If you are unsubscribing then from the "Account Settings" position
you would click on "Delete" at the bottom

8) then it would ask if you wanted to confirm the deletion as it cannot
be undone and you would delete your self.

If all of that is more than you want to do then let me know and I'll do
that for you,

joseph

Chucho, Chuchín or Chuy is the male nickname for Jesús, and Chucha, Chuchita or again Chuy is the female nickname for Jesusa, María de Jesús, etc. It is not offensive at all in Mexico, athough indeed in some places chucho or chucha may be used as slang for "dog".

Comentario

Maybe that's why my great-grandmother, María de Jesús Campos Mota, was called "Chuche" and not "Chucha." ;-) Well, I have heard of dogs being called "chuchos/as," but I think it's only in certain parts of Mexico. I never heard of that (being from Zacatecas) until I met my husband who's from Durango. Not sure if he got it from his Durango childhood or his mom who's from Jalisco...Very interesting...Also, there's a very funny saying in Mexico when someone says something that's not very credible...kind of like saying "My eye!" or "Yeah, right!" In Mexico it is, "Ay, sí, Chucha y sus calzonsotes!" Ha, ha! I wonder how that came to be!!!

I know you didn't mean it in such a manner, Joseph, but it's an
incredibly offensive term in Spanish in Ecuador and other South
American countries. As you may remember, I'm married to an Ecuadoran.

If on 01 February 2007 you find yourself unsubscribed from here is what
to do:

1) Just go to nuestrosranchos.org and click on "Create New Account"

2) fill in the application in specific detail, and submit.

3) You'll get a form letter back telling you to send in your genealogy
to NR@JosephPuentes.com

4) When I receive your genealogy I'll activate your account. . .

. . .see how simple it will be.

thanks and I am sorry for the 50 or so of you that will be unsubscribed
from on 01 Feb 2007 that somehow it didn't work out for you and the
nuestrosranchos.org group to work together in our research of the
Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes area.

The doors will always remain open if later you want to undertake a
Serious Investigation of your Genealogical Roots.

Esparza in Calvillo

Does a Nicasio or Narciso Esparza ring a bell? Is Nicasio a name? (est. birth 1810) in Calvillo, Ags. Bill does do you have this person as a descendant of Lope Ruiz de Esparza? Any help is appreciated

Daniel,

Although the name Nicasio is not common, it is definitely a proper hispanic
name. For example, a Nicasio Esparza married a Crespina Lopez in Calvillo
on 10 May 1835. Is this the Nicasio you're looking for? The only Nicasio
Ruiz de Esparza in my database was born 100 years earlier (1703) in the town
of Aguascalientes, not in Calvillo. I also have a Francisco Xavier Narciso
Ruiz de Esparza born in 1714. Both were baptized at the catholic church of
El Sagrario, in Aguascalientes. Sorry.

Hello Bill, I found a Nicasio as a father of Francisco Esparza but I'm not
sure if it's my Francisco. So I will order the film ASAP since practically
all of my lines go back to Calvillo which is good. Who are the latest
Esparzas that you have for Calvillo or Ags.?

Daniel,

The latest Esparza (from Calvillo) in my database is Juan Ruiz de Esparza, married 1752 to Ana Gertrudis Alonso de los Hinojos (another compounded surname). Juan was born in Calvillo, but was married in Aguascalientes. Unfortunately, none of my ancestors was from Calvillo, so I have not checked any church records there. The latest of my ancestors bearing the Ruiz de Esparza surname was my great grandmother Josefa Frías Ruiz de Esparza, born in Rincón de Romos in 1848. She was the daughter of Antonio Frías and Refugio Ruiz de Esparza. Josefa married Wilhelm Ludwig Strecker, a german engineer, in 1870. Wilhelm and Josepha were the parents of my grandfather Guillermo Strecker Frias (b. 1879 d. 1947).

I probably will not be able to help you much with your genealogy until you get into the early 1700's. I have done a pretty thorough research of the early settlers of Aguascalientes, so that will be relatively easier. The Esparzas started pouring in in the early 1700's. Today there are virtually thousands of genealogical lines to follow, so you really have to work backwards in time until you can get to that point. My search was very hard, especially when I got to my 5th great-grandparents Francisco Ruiz de Esparza and Josepha de Ulloa. They were married in Aguascalientes in 1703 but she was from Mesticacán, Jalisco. I spent almost two years trying to find who Josepha's parents were. As you already know, there were too many Francisco Ruiz de Esparza's and I could not find any additional information about Josepha de Ulloa. Finally, I ordered a microfilm with "Informaciones Matrimoniales" and found the information I had been searching for. That was a big boost to my morale, which was beginning to weaken. Her parents were Nicolás de Iñiguez y Ulloa and Lorenza de Cuevas, married 13 Feb 1668 in Cuquío, Nochistlán. That helped me find Josepha's baptismal record and a slew of genealogical information. Her baptismal record reads "El 28 de abril de 1682 en Tacotlán feligresía de Cuquío fue bautizada Josepha, siendo padrino Pedro de Madrigal". I am still looking for her burial record in Aguascalientes.

The point I am trying to make is how important it is to look at the original records and to verify that the information you find is correct. To do this you must find several records and NOT make any assumptions. Check, double check and check some more. All of us hit a brick wall every once in a while, but the fun part is finding the correct information. Without a shadow of a doubt.

I'll let you know if I find any relevant information about your Esparzas ancestors from Calvillo.

Updated Nuestros Ranchos User Guide

(Espanol sigue abajo)

I have updated the English version of the Nuestros Ranchos User Guide. It is still not complete but I have updated previously written sections which were outdated and written up what I think are some very important features such as using the Films Database and Searching the GEDCOM database. I have also added an appendix which shows three standard genealogy reports: Ahnentafel, Pedigree Chart and Register so that members can have examples of what genealogy reports should look like. Ideally the reports in your genealogy folder should be in one of these formats for easy sharing with other members.

I strongly suggest that any new members download the guide and print it out to have as a guide of what resources are available on the site and how to make the best use of it. I am hoping to get the changes translated soon.

Mickey,

Are you having the problem that when you log on you still see that message that you are still "not authorized"? I found that you need to go back to the message and click again on the link for the "node" then the link will work. I don't know why that is, but I also used to think I couldn't get in to the site, but it is that logging in doesn't do it the first time. Had you logged in before reading the e-mails, then you would not have to go back again to the message. Is that the problem you are having?

And very nice photos they are, too! I've just been on the website
trying to match surnames, etc., to some of mine and having noooooo

]that[ close and yet there's no match for me. All the best, Marge:)

PAF Help

Let's say you have a PAF file you are unfamiliar with. How would you?:

1) Find specific locations within the file? Say I was hunting for any
individual whose roots are in Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes

Comentarios

Joseph,

If I understand your question, you want to know how to identify, in PAF where certain individuals are by the geographical area.

If so, the easiest way, 1) is to click on the print button, 2) choose the list tab, 3) then click on Places sorted alphabetically. Then you can ether print the list or you can preview it on your screen. This report will show you each geographical place in your PAF file, with every event and date of the event that took place in each place.

yes that is what I wanted. perfect.

boy it is right there. thanks much for the help with this. My list of
locations seems to include lists of people but if I scroll down to the
next page I start seeing places and then more people and places mixed
together. maybe I ddin't enter the information into it correctly to
begin with.

thanks,

Call for old photos and documents

As part of the remake of the Nuestros Ranchos site that I would like to do over the next few months, I would like to redo the "main image" of the site to include names of places that we cover written in very old documents, i.e. parrish records or wills. I have plenty of scans from my area around Colotlan and Tlaltenango but would like to include some from Los Altos, Aguascalientes and northern Zacatecas. If anybody has any old photos of towns in these areas or scans of documents where the names of towns are written out, can you please email them to me or upload them to the Albums section?

Joseph,

Thanks for the accolades, but what I do is very little compared to all the work you and Arturo must do. I wish I were better equipped to do more but for now I will keep plugging along as the mistress of Spam, just a few minutes a day.

dedication of its volunteers: Kitty Cortez, Alicia Carrillo, John
Gonzalez, and Enrique Legaspi. It sounds like there will be others who
are joining in to do the work as well soon.

We all know the great work that Arturo has done with the website and a
continued thanks go to him for his efforts. Muchisimas Arturo!

I just wanted to publicly thanks John Gonzalez and Enrique Legaspi for
their help in doing Translation work for me when I needed something to
be said "correctly." You all have seen that my written Spanish is
terrible and these two gentlemen have stepped up to help me greatly and
I'm counting on them to help in the future. Thank you John and thank you
Enrique.

I wanted to point out two special volunteers whose efforts are going
unnoticed by the members of the group but without their help the burden
of the workload would have destroyed my will to continue on in the group
as one of the Moderators:

1) Alicia Carrillo: Our Spam Master. She is the one that allows or
disallows Spam from getting to the group. Have you noticed how the
nuestrosranchos.org site gets no spam? Well it is sent to a special
folder where on a daily basis Alicia goes in and deletes all the spam
and hunts for the misc. message that a new member will send before they
reply to those three confirmation emails that we must all reply to
before being allowed to send messages to the lists. Anyway this job in
this day and age is very needed and time consuming. I was stressing
about it and Alicia came to the rescue and has helped greatly in
assuring that no legitimate messages get tossed out with the tons of
spam the three lists receive daily. Mucha Gracias Alicia.

2) Kitty Cortez: Our Potential New Members Screener. Whenever potential
new members apply for a new account they get sent a message saying they
need to do their own research and send in their representative genealogy
to be admitted as members of the group. After about 15 days of no
response Kitty sends them an email reminding the potential new members
that in order for their membership account to be activated they need to
send in their genealogies. Then after about 30 days Kitty sends a last
message saying that if they don't reply ASAP (deadline given) their
application for membership will be deleted. I can't believe how many new
potential members are applying every week thanks to Arturo's site design
which allows the search engines to find us. This job got really out of
hand and I was straining under the load of doing it until Kitty
volunteered to help. Thank you thank you thank you, Kitty!

I can't express how much I appreciate the efforts of Alicia, Kitty,
John, and Enrique. Having said that I don't want them to think that I'm
just assuming they will do this job forever (it would be okay with me if
they wanted to do it forever). Arturo has already made a call for new
volunteers to help with some projects he has lined up and I want other
members to keep in mind that I might need help from you in possibly
assisting Alicia and Kitty. Now they are Trojans and have not asked for
any help and I won't be interfering with their efforts but it is
possible that sometime in the future they might need a "break" or
assistance. So I want all of you to think of getting on my list of
people that I can potentially call upon if I need an "on-call" volunteer.

thanks again for everyone's interest, participation and contribution to
the group.

I second Alicia assertion below. While I was in Nochistlan this past weekend I was telling my cousins about "nuestros ranchos". All were amazed and pleased at the effort and interest in our roots and the organized manner in which information is shared and helpful in the mission of the group.

I went to Nochistlan to celebrate the "Papaqui", an amazing ancient religious feast which for my family has become the reason to re-unite, re-connect and celebrate our roots.

During the day I was lucky enough to leaf through the original church records - all the way back to 1661, which the LDS has preserved, and available to us on the internet. Happily, I was able to confirm all the dates I wanted to look up against the original documents.

Thanks so much to the founders of this group which ignites pride in our ancestors and sparks our curiosity to learn where we come from.

Thanks Enrique,

when time permits please tell us more about the "Papaqui." You can put
it right here on the research@nuestrosranchos.org list. also tell us
about the statement below about the 1661 records available on the
internet. Are you talking about the records on films that the LDS owns
(Registros parroquiales, 1627-1959) or are you talking about something else?

tell us more and if you have pictures of the festival please upload a
few to the Albums in the appropriate specific album.

Joseph and fellow rancheros!

the 1661 records i referenced are the same that are found in www.familysearch.org - IGI database.

As i looked at the original source document, the feeling that overcame me was a rush of electric excitment. To be able to hold the 400 year old parish records book was a privilige.

As far as pictures are concerned, i will upload a bunch of papaqui pics. is there a file size limit i should be concerned about, Joseph?

I will also post a description and historical background to the 'papaqui' soon.

I can understand. those books were the ones being written into possibly
as you family was right there with the scribe giving them the
information. I'm not sure that is the way they did that but if they did
record it while your family was there it was like touching your family.
Way way cool.

if you have a way to optimize pictures for the web you might consider
this, but truthfully I would just pick a "small" bunch and not do too
many. Give us a good feel for the Papaqui but not too much. I would
think between 5-10 should do a good job, but if you need to upload more
go to it.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] The Function of the nuestrosranchos.org Group Continues Because. . .

the nuestrosranchos.org site continues because of the hard work and
dedication of its volunteers: Kitty Cortez, Alicia Carrillo, John

Now they are Trojans and have not asked for
any help and I won't be interfering with their efforts but it is
possible that sometime in the future they might need a "break" or
assistance. So I want all of you to think of getting on my list of
people that I can potentially call upon if I need an "on-call" volunteer.

thanks again for everyone's interest, participation and contribution to
the group.

I'm Confused

Hi Bill, I have a Pablo Vasquez on IGI who married Martina Esparsa on 18 Feb 1835 and my 4th grt grandmother should be Matiana Esparsa but then I found a child who I do recall named Petra Vasquez Esparsa on IGI born Feb 1845 in Calvillo.

Comentario

Daniel,

The best way to resolve this problem is by ordering film No. 0635887 at your LDS Family History Center, and checking Pablo Vasquez and Martina Esparza's marriage record. This microfilm includes marriages that took place between 1813-1854 at the Catholic Church of Nuestro Señor San Jose. By checking this microfilm you will be able to check 1) if the name was transcribed correctly and 2) verify the names of their parents. I find errors in IGI sheets every day, therefore I try to verify each and every one of them by checking the original records. I've been doing this for nearly three years. You can also check the baptismal records for Leandro and Petra on microfilms No. 0635767 and No. 0635767 to verify that the names of their parents are correct on the IGI sheets.

Bill

Pablo Vasquez

Hi Bill, I too believe this might be Pablo Villalobos as "Pablo Vasquez'' because it would make sense he was married a first time to Martina Esparsa on 18 Feb 1835. Hmm maybe Martina is Matiana's sister? I don't know.

Yes Daniel, I have three genealogical lines going straight to Lope Ruiz de Esparza and Francisca Gabai de Moctezuma. Allegedly, Petronila de Moctezuma, Francisca's mother, was the granddaughter of the last Aztec emperor Moctezuma II, although no one has been able to prove it. Hopefully, we'll find the proper documentation one of these days. Unfortunately, most of what has been posted on the Internet about her "parents" is pure speculation and wishful thinking.

You can check my genealogical information in Nuestros Ranchos at

Bill

Avila in Calvillo

I've found Maria de la Luz Avila Calvillo on IGI she was baptized on 11 Mar 1832 in El Sagragrio, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico!

Lobato

The Lobato's were from Sombrete, Zacatacas can someone tell me where this is? And where would I find records earlier than 1690's?

Denise:

Sombrerete is in northwestern Zacatecas on the way to Durnago. It was a very important stopover on the Camino Real de Adentro which went from Mexico City to New Mexico and was an important intermediary migration point for the pioneers to the Septentronial America (current American Southwest and Mexican North).

http://www.mexconnect.com/mex_/zacatecas/mapzacatecas.html

When you get back to the point where there are no more baptism or marriage records, you will likely have to start looking for notarial records of wills and endowments for churches, etc.

The Lobatos were pretty widely dispersed in Mexico (Mexico City, Puebla, Michoacan) by the late 1600s which makes me think there were several immigrants with this name or a very early immigrant who was very prolific.

The earliest Lobato immigrant was Pedro Lobato who migrated in 1549 from Valladolid.

There was also a person named Cristóbal Rodriguez Lobato who arrived in Mexico in 1604 to be part of the party accompanying Juan de Onate on his expedition to New Mexico. This is the list of people who came with him. You can view the document on Archivos Espanoles en Red

My name is Denise Lovato-Duran I have my Lobato line back to 1760's in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The first Lobato's came to New Mexico were Bartolome Lobato and his brother Matias came in 1695. The Lobato's were from Sombrete, Zacatacas. Recently I had my brother do his DNA and it turned out halogroup Q-3 which is Native American. I was surprised to find out I matched a male friend named Tafoya. He has his Tafoya's back to the 1600's in Michoacan. Both of us are Q-3 so we are Indio ,I read recently that the Spanish enslaved the tribe in Michoacan and sent them to work in the mines in Sombrete. It is possible that one ancestor stayed in Michoacan and was baptized Tafoya and the other went to Sombrete and was baptized a Lobato. I am very interested in researching baptism records in Sombrete.

Esparza lines

My grandfather told me that our two Esparza lines came from Aguascalientes before entering Huanusco, Zacatecas. I was researching this Esparza line who the patriach is Lope Ruiz de Esparza who came to Mexico in Feb 8, 1593.

Hi Daniel,

Your grandfather is right. If your two Esparza lines originate in Aguascalientes, you're probably related to Lope Ruiz de Esparza. Your greatest challenge will be finding your ancestors in the last two centuries (1800-2000). Once you've done that, I should be able to help you find your Esparza ancestors all the way back to Lope Ruiz de Esparza and even a couple of generations beyond. Most of my genealogical research has been centered in Aguascalientes, Zacatecas and Altos de Jalisco. How much progress have you made on these lines?

One day someone is going to desperately want to search for a specific
email by using the search engine. In order for the search engine to work
to this advantage we need to give the proper names for the subjects of
the emails.

1) If you are replying to an email and are changing the subject please
change the subject accordingly. You can say something like: Census
Records - was: "Introduction"

2) Yes and lets start getting just a bit more specific about the
subject. One day we might need to look for someones introduction and
come to find 100 messages with the subject being "Introduction" why not
lets say: "Joseph Puentes: Introduction"

3) Also let's try to keep in mind what each of the three email lists are
for:

research@nuestrosranchos.org is for messages that are specifically for
research in our area: Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.
_Messages related to genealogy but not about Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or
Aguascalientes should not go to this list. _

general@nuestrosranchos.org is for brief discussions about genealogy
_outside our area of research_ OR messages about _other topics_ that the
group might find useful including those that are related to Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes. IF IF someone starts a conversation
about genealogy research related to Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or
Aguascalientes on this list then let's all try to move the conversation
as soon as possible back to research@nuestrosranchos.org

announce@nuestrosranchos.org is for announcements.

thanks for your help with this,

joseph

Michael,
I have a Huizar in my tree who is my gg grandmother, have not been able to
find any info on her; what I have is this:

Maria Huizar
DOB Estamated 1859-give or take 5 years
DOD Unknown; may have moved and died in Los
Angeles, CA
Married: Cristobol Hernandez
Children: At least 2 females that is known of, one by the
name of Zenona Hernandez, born in 1879, she
moved from Fresnillo, Zac, Mx. and died in
L.A., CA.. in 1927. The 2nd siblings name is
unknown, it is beleived that she also left Mexico
and lived in L.A, and that Maria Huizar lived
with her.
I can come forward from Zenona (Huizar) Hernandez, but I have not been able
to find anything on Maria Huizar and Cristobol Hernandez, except that they
were maternal grandparents to Zononas' siblings. All of Zononas' siblings
claim they were born in Fresnillo, and I have proof that at least 2 of them
were.

Hello joseph,

I would like to take this opportunity to say thanx as well to you and to Kitty , Alicia John and Enriquie . Sometimes you forget just how much work is involved in maintaining a smooth operation , kinda like the duck theory , you see the duck on the surface of the lake gliding ever so smoothly but, what you don't see are his feet underneath paddling away .

Fernando,

Have you used the films section in the site yet? The search that Jonathan did for you can easily be done by simply going to the "Films" area, then clicking on Jalisco, then on Totatiche or Colotlan as the case may be and then finding the appropriate film, i.e. Marriages 1847-1856 or Baptisms 1756-1797, etc. If there is an "IGI" or "VRI" button next to the film information, that means the film is indexed on familysearch.org so you can simply click on the button and it will give you a listing of everything that is on the film. You can then click on the "Refine Search" link on the upper right and enter as little or as much information as you like to narrow down the search.

So if you went and picked the marriages film from Colotlan for the appropriate year, then simply entered "Mota" as the last name you would find the marriage record that Jonathan mentions. Unfortunately whomever extracted that film did not list parents so you have to order the film in order to get one generation back.

There is this record on IGI as well which may be worth looking at but only after you can ascertain that it is indeed the same Francisca Herrera from the marriage document in Colotlan:

Francisca De Luna Herrera
Birth: About 1846 Santo Tomas, Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico
Parents:
Father: Ramon Herrera
Mother: Maria Felipa De Luna

There is no way to access the films through Ranchos. The LDS does not let them out of their Family History Centers. You must order them there and view them there. I really think you should pay the center in Santa Rosa a visit... it does not seem far and it is not at all intimidating. They are very helpful and friendly. I even get rides to the metro from the volunteers there when I go since I do not have a car.

The only other thing I can suggest is to check the films database and if by chance some other Ranchos member has the film in question on indefinite loan at their own family history center they may be willing to do a lookup or two for you. The marriage record in Colotlan is probably the most important one you need to look up.

Agustin,

Are you sure that, your Mota line is from Totatiche. I did a quick search
for Vicente and Francisca in Totatiche and found nothing. But I found a
Vicente Mota that married a Francisca Herrera, on 20 Apr 1853, in Colotlan,
Jalisco. With the following children:

Maria Sotera Mota Herrera born: 23 Apr 1854 Colotlan
Jose Merced Mota Herrera born: 24 Sep 1855 Colotlan
Severa Mota Herrera born: 09 Nov 1857 Colotlan
Agustin Mota Herrera born: 28 Aug 1862 Colotlan
Dominga Mota Herrera born: 06 Aug 1865 Colotlan
Gregoria Mota Herrera born: 11 Sep 1868 Colotlan
Maria Mota Herrera Born: 14 Jun 1871 Colotlan

If this is your family, I would suggest looking at the children's
christening records, your can get the film numbers from the IGI at Family
Search.org. Also I would suggest looking the marriage record for Vicente
and Francisca (film number: 0443785) and the Informacion Matrimonial films
(film numbers: 0443718 and 0443719).

Just wanted to note:
Colotlan and Totatiche are about 30 miles from one another. Many of the families that I am researching, moved back and forth between these two cites. So it is possible that the family from Totatiche that you are searching could also be the same family that is in Colotlan.

Also, if I am not mistaken, I think you have to pass through Momax, Zactecas to get from one city to the other so you should keep that city on your radar as well. I always found in funny how when you are traveling those roads in that area, you see signs like now entering Zacatecas, now entering Jalisco, now entering Zacatecas, etc... in any given 20 mile stretch. The border between the two states is very fuzzy in that area...probably in most areas...

Good Luck on your search,
Angie Godina
