As long as I continue to remember I will change the subject accordingly. No guarantees though, these old brain cells keep dying off and there's no telling what will stick and what won't.

Guillermo,

Here's a piece I sent to Joseph off-line a while back. As you will see General Santa Ana loved to punish the states by dividing and conquering just as in your piece of history about Aguascalientes.

Tlachichila is in La Sierra de Nochistlan, the last town in the area. It's 7,230 ft above sea level so it's at the highest point of that Sierra. There's a quote in Nochistlan's bio that says this is a small region and rather isolated. There was a famous battle with the French so for those who say the french did not settle here or come near this area they are wrong. Nochistlan de Mejia as it is known was named after General Mejia who led the defeat of the french invading army.

Nochistlan is in the southernmost region of Zacatecas and at one time it was part of Jalisco. General Santa Ana in retribution to the leaders of this region for not supporting him, punished the citizens of Nochistlan by changing the boundaries. He made it fit within the state of Zacatecas. On the

The story of Mexico during the 1800's was a constant
fight among two factions: the "Federalistas" (who
seeked more freedom for states to govern themselves)
and the "Centralistas" (who wanted the power in Mexico
City having more control over the states). At one
point, Zacatecas stood as Federalista and Santa Anna's
"Centralista" government punished the state by taking
a chunk of the state and creating the tiny state of
Aguscalientes.

This strong division during the 19th Century presented
a weaker Mexico to invasions (hence the two biggest
defeats of that time by the U.S. in the 1840's, where
we lost have of our territory and by France in the
1860's, where we had to suffer a european emperor,
Maximiliano, enforced by a french army, until Napoleon
(the III) recall the army and Maximiliano was
executed).

Inside Scoop on the Family History Library

Alicia,

Just because
the films, are in the vault, it doesn’t mean that no one has ever looked
at the films, in Salt
Lake
.  A few years
ago, the policy was, that when a film was ordered from the vault, it stayed in
the FHL for a few weeks, then it was sent back.  Also, you don’t
know if the film is also, in other centers, elsewhere.

If you have 47
films, that you want to look at, and they are in the vault.  I would
suggest, getting in touch with the Library and getting them ordered.  So
they are there when you arrive.  Because, you can only order 5 films per
day.

They, also
have a book scanner on the Main floor, so you can scan the book.  Also,
there are copiers on each floor.

Thanks,

Jonathan

PAF Question

Kitty,
I would suggest trying the program PAF Companion. It offers more
reports that what PAF does, by itself.

But, from what I understand that you want. I would sugest just
printing a pedigree chart and printing the supporting family group
records.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I didn't know about this index until I went to the FHC. They have a
link on their computers, so that saved me a lot of time.

PAF Question

Hi Jon

We are using PAF 5.2.  When we print we go to Reports
and Charts,  there we click on Ancestry and we don't get children
listed.  If we click on Books and use Ahnentafel (Ancestry) we also don't
see children listed and  there is no connection between generation.
It doesn't  mention who the parents are, you have to go to the next
generation up and guess who they were.  This makes it hard since we have
many lines with the same surname.
So we used Books, and clicked on Modified register
Descendancy.  This give us a report from our oldest ancestor to our most
recent. and does list all children and their connection.  But this created
37 different files for us to download for the Ranchos.  We were looking for
a way to print four reports in reverse,  from his grandparents
backwards to the 9th, 10th, or 11th generation listing children and
parents.

I guess one of these days we should buy one of the newer
programs, but we like the simplicity of the  PAF
version.

I will list some names in the last book...Vol. VI  1578-1585

I am in the 1600' on some lines but not in the earlier years., however, I am glad I bought the books.  They were purchased from the "Ministerio  de Cultura".  It would be interesting to find out if they are still available.  Vol VI was published in 1986.  At the time I purchased the books the office was on Gran Villa street....it has been a few

Hello:

How much did they cost.  I do not remember but they were cheap.  I brought back a set for myself and my friend.  I took an extra suitcase for books.

I will look up the Puentes for you.  And, yes it is early.  And yes, it would be harder to start from Adam!
