Hello Rick,
I dont know how to link to PARES but to find the document, you search FRANCISCO DE COVARRUBIAS under Archivo General de Indias -> CONTRATACION. The document is dated 1563.
Hi,
It is indeed very hard to read, I can recognize words here and there, but not really read it. The gist? This is a Contratación, so they were getting all the permits to in order to travel from Sevilla, Spain to New Spain, América.
On pages 1 and 3 you can read some of the information:
1/24 Franco. de Cobarribias, veco. de Sevilla y su mujer Maria Ramirez a N.E.
(Francisco de Cobarrubias, neighbour of Sevilla and his wife Maria Ramírez, going to New Spain)
3/2 Me, Francisco de Cobarrubias, neighbour from this city, and Maria Ramirez my wife, want to go the province of New Spain.
My understanding is that whatever they put in the description of the document was taken from it. You may try to find individual words (like Granada, Gaspar, Margarita) and take it from there.
Regards,
Victoriano Navarro
Victoriano
Thank you for the assistance! I have been able to locate the parents names on the 13th and 14th lines of Pg 5/24. Other than that all I see are scribbles!
Alex
I have been building our family tree for some years and I have come across
this document. It is a marriage entry for Pedro Antonio Ruiz alias Carrillo
Español to Maria Catharina Bueno.
I found some other uses of the term alias
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-D27N-V?i=321&wc=3JW5-JWL%3…
top left and bottom left
I descend from Maria de los Dolores Marin's sister, Maria Josephina Potenciana Marin de la Peña Losa. (Sometimes the Arenas surname pops up)
Maria Jpha. P. Marin is married to Jose Manuel Cardenas y Mendoza. The information that I have on their parents is mainly through marriage dispensations but some genealogists have posted different information so I need to go back and review all my notes on the family before I post it for you.

Juan Carrillo,
I could not access the link you attached. However, I too have Pedro Antonio Ruiz alias Carrillo and Maria Catharina Bueno in my family tree (5th g-grandparents). I have no answers for you as to the use of alias; however, I did manage to find the marriage record for Pedro Antonio's parents ... and that record states that Miguel Ruiz did not know who his parents were. Here is the link to that record
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-7SSM-JR?i=297&wc=3JFF-929%…
The record does state that he was a widower, the entry for his first marriage can be seen on image 164 in the same folder as the above record. It also states that the parentage was unknown.
Hopefully someone in the group will have a better understanding of the term “alias” in Spanish records.

Hi Angelina,
I've seen the use of Alias in similar situations, my guess is, even though Miguel Ruiz is listed as an hijo de padres no conocidos, that he most likely knew who his father was and that he descended from the Carrillo family, which would explain his children adopting that name.

Chris,
Maybe you are right. However, it could also be the name of an adopted
parent, or simply that of a god-parent. You just never know, without
documentation or DNA evidence that states otherwise, we can't make
assumptions.

I have found that sometimes the "alias" refers to the surname of a step-father or step-mother or adoptive parents

It just means he also used the name Carrillo too. I've seen it on other
records before. It doesn't mean anything. He's probably using his mother's
last name. his mother Maria de los Dolores is listed as Española but de los
Dolores isn't a last name, so her name is probably Carrillo.

My husband said that "Dolores" means "sorrows", as in Maria de los Dolores (Mary of Sorrows), the Virgin Mary mourning for her Son. I also have found that an "alias" refers sometimes to the surname of a step-parent or adoptive parent.

Maria Dolores Marin de la Peña Losa y Alva's parents, Manuel Marin de la Peña Losa and Teresa Alva, were distant cousins through their Marin de la Peña Losa ancestors.
Maria Dolores Marin de la Peña Losa was born about 1720
She also descends from Toribio Hernandez Arellano ( Aka Toribio Hernandez Santillana). I recently posted some information on his family in nuestrosranchos.org.
R.A.Ricci
Dear Juan Carillo,
Pedro Antonio Ruiz alias Carillo is the son Of Miguel Ruiz and Maria Dolores Marin de la Peña Losa.
We share some ancestors. Maria Dolores Marin de la Peña Losa y de Alva was the daughter of Manuel Marin de la Peña Losa And Teresa de Alva.
Teresa de Alva descends six generations back from Diego Ochoa Garibay and Juana Nunez de Sotomayor.
I have posted some my research on Juana Nunez de Sotomayor on nuestrosranchos.org I just recently posted Diego Ochoa Garibays ancestry going back to the 1300's on nuestrosranchos. You can find his ancestors at:
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23400
I have too many ancestors of Maria Dolores Marin de la Peña Losa to write down right now.
Miguel Ruiz has espanol "Padres no conocidos" in both of his marriage records. I believe that one of his parents may have been named Carillo.
Good luck on your research,
R.A.Ricci
I have seen Alias used as "also known as" and also as "used to be known as".
I would search both Ruiz and Carillo lines, even search lines that use Ruiz Carillo or Carillo Ruiz.

I would like to know what years Zacatecas did censuses. On Guadalajara dispensas website I found one in 1850, which was great and a random find to me.

I don't know what the mother's name is but espinosa is the surname. If you look at the padrinos of your garcia and Arias Hernandez and delgado MH6G-TY7 ID on familysearch.org you will see that their padrinos were a hernandez and garcia maybe they are related, the two garcias.
Thank you Mr. Ricci, Sarod and Rosalinda for helping me with the parents
names. I really appreciate it.

The parents seem to be Calisto? Garcia and Reducinda (Rudecinda?) Espinosa.

Hello Danny,
I am also having trouble reading it but I think that Teodora's mother's surname is Espinosa.
Have you tried looking to see if there is a dispensation through the Garcia surname? Have you tried looking for its "informacion matrimonial" record?
Try reading more records from this writer and look for patterns in the letters.
Good luck,

I noticed some of the Dispensas don't have the little magnifying glass to search for names.
quite a few of them have yet to be catalogued

Hello! I am looking for more information on the origins of two families of Ponce or Ponce de Leon from Nochistlan and Mexticacan:
Hi Alex,
I've hit a dead-end with the Ponce siblings, Diego and Gertrudis. I've been researching the Ponce's from Nochistlan in hopes of finding a connection to my 8th great grandfather Sebastian Ponce de Leon who married Maria Felipa Macias on 5 August 1708 in Aguascalientes. The marriage record is the 3rd entry on the right.
"México, Aguascalientes, registros parroquiales, 1620-1962," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-13029-90470-20?cc=1502404 : accessed 18 May 2016), Aguascalientes > Asunción de María > Matrimonios 1703-1795 > image 73 of 445; parroquias Católicas, Aguascalientes (Catholic Church parishes, Aguascalientes).

Austin,
I see. Well I think I'm going to have to join the search then! Ill post if I find anything.

Alex, many thanks for the information on the dispensa.

Do you know of any documents tying Gertrudis or Diego to their parents? I'm trying to confirm who they are right now.
Thank you

Hello All,
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this post. Thank you Steven and Armando for the information! It is fascinating to get such a vivid glimpse into life in 18th century Nochistlan.
Saul, I don't think I received your email. I hope you are all well!

I too have Gregorio Yniguez and Juana Ponce as my 8x great grandparents in my paternal family line. I sent Richard Ibarra an e-mail via Nuestros Ranchos contact link. I only know of one other person with the same family research of the Ponce family and that is my Prima Raquel Ruiz.
Has anyone found and proof that the Eligio Jauregui who married Gertrudis Ponce is the same one that married Ana Sepulveda?
Alex,
No definitive proof but the timeline provided by the marriage and burial records provides convincing evidence that it is the same person.
Eligio de Jauregui married Ana de Sepulveda on 14 February 1695 in Mexticacan. In the marriage record his parents are listed as Juan Francisco de Jauregui and Josefa Chavez (deceased).
"México, Zacatecas, registros parroquiales, 1605-1980," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15187-51661-36?cc=1804458&wc… : accessed 9 March 2015), Nochistlán > Nochistlán > Matrimonios 1691-1736 > image 67 of 448; paróquias Católicas, Zacatecas [Catholic Church parishes, Zacatecas].
Ana de Sepulveda daughter of Nicolas de Sepulveda and Jeronima de Carvajal was buried on 2 March 1712 in Mexticacan.

This dispensa ties Eligio to Leonardo in the same manner as the dispensa posted earlier in this thread, which tied Eligio to Gertrudis Ponce. In the linked dispensa here, Eligio has a son Manuel, which was born to Eligio in 1705 by Anna Sepulveda. So the Eligios are confirmed to be the same person

I have ancestors from the Mazapil/Nochistlan area. I am looking for information about the settlers of the hacienda de San Juan, later called de Ahorcados because the local Indians attacked the settlers and hung them all. I am looking for Monico or Jose Monico Barron, born in said hacienda about 1761 and his wife Justa or Rufina or Justa Rufina Candelaria possible surname Paredes, born possibly in the same place about 1764.
I am also looking for any books about Mazapil in the 1700s. The hacienda de San Juan de Ahorcados or simply Ahorcados, was destroyed about 1771+- and rebuilt about 1776+-.
TIA for any information you can assist me with.

I had a question about the science site with the Mayan, Huichol and Nahua
mixtures but my question is not very clear. I know that some of my
ancestors were from the Caxcan tribe headed by the Mendoza's and I don't
know what happened to the Caxcan people, maybe they disappeared or maybe
they just mixed with the Spanish people like Chief Blas de Mendoza. but
does anyone know how that DNA is researched? are they part of the Mayan,
Huichol or NAhuas or have they just disappeared? so as an example say that
all my indigenous ancestors were Caxcan people from Teocaltiche and since
I don't see the Caxcan tribe listed as one of the tribes of the Native
Mexicans on the admixture picture, would my Caxcan DNA be reclassified
under another tribe or would it be redistributed among several different
tribes or just not be listed

Danny,
Check out the following posts my prima Alicia made on Nuestros Ranchos a
few years back. I've attached them here because the Tachiquin last name is
most likely a Caxcan last name that still survives today. As far as I know
there are still some Tachiquin families in el barrio de San Sebastian in
Nochistlan, not far from Teocaltiche. I'm not sure how much of European and
other DNAs have been mixed into this family over the years. My DNA has
Caxcan DNA as most if not all of the people with ancestry in this part of
Mexico does. The Caxcanes have been mixed in with European, African, Middle
Eastern, Asian DNA's present in this part of Mexico. This is the mestisaje
that makes us Mexican. I'm not aware of any pure Caxcan people living
today, but the Tachiquin elders are probably the closest we can get to pure
Caxcan DNA. Years ago Family Tree DNA listed my indigenous DNA as Mayan,
but today it's just listed as Native American most likely because they know
there are distinct and different indigenous DNA throughout Mexico. Mayans
are quite a bit farther south in Mexico so I'm pretty sure Caxcanes are not
Mayan. Based on some quick research, there are some sites stating the
Caxcan are part of the Uto-Aztecan family as are the aztecas, huicholes,
zacatecos, nahuas and matlatzincas. Since DNA research in Mexico is in its
infancy so to speak, more refined markers identifying Caxcan DNA are not
available as far as I know. Maybe that will change with the work of Dr.
Carlos Bustamante at Stanford University.
Saludos,
Juan Aguayo
See past post below:
Lisa,
As you may know, surnames were not used by the native American people.
Having
said that, the surname of Tachiquin is indigenous to the area of Nochistlan
and
is the only known indian surname that survived and was not converted to
spanish
or the castillian language.
Aside from this, I don't know anything else about this surname other than
it was
and is an original indian surname. Would your grandfather by chance be from
Tenayuca or Toyahua in the municipality of Nochistlan?

Tachiquin Surname's origins
Submitted by oldcar53 on Wed, 2011-03-23 03:00.
Lisa,
Good news, I knew that I'd read something somewhere about the surname
Tachiquin
and today I had time to look into it and found the following.
In the book Nochistlan de Zacatecas by Evelia Clotilde Quirarte there's a
section that tells of a few indian surnames.
The surname Tachiquin corresponds to families that originated in the Barrio
of
San Sebastian of Nochistlan. The Tachiquin surname is believed to have
originally been tlachiunqui that was then converted to tlachinqui. The
letter t
before the letter L is characteristic of the language of the cazcan nation
indigenous to the area of Nochistlan and the surrounding areas. She states
that
the etimology of the word tlachiuanite means to cast a spell. (espanol),(
hechizar, aojar, el encantador, el que hechiza)
She believed that the original Tachiquin may have been an important healer
or
medicine man or man of influence in the Caxcan community.
In 1913, a person with the name of Tachiquin was honored for giving his
life for
defending Nochistlan.
I hope this helps.

Hi Danny
I just saw your subject. As for yourself how did you discover what type of Amerindian you carry in your lineage. I was very surprised when I received my DNA and the Spanish percentage came back low. Especially with the surname that I carry so I assumed it would be higher. I am trying to educate myself on how to understand my DNA readings especially on Gedmatch. I always knew my paternal grandmother was Amerindian just never imaged how much she was and I am not sure about my maternal side since they never spoke of it. Just proves that just because you carry a Spanish last name doesn't guarantee your bloodline is 100%. I am trying to obtain as much information I can from my living elders so hopefully in time I can have more of clear picture of my DNA. I am very happy to be discovering more of where I came from and truly proud of my ethnicity.
Thanks
Rosario Tiscareno
Rosario, he only identified one of his ancestors as being from a specific tribe due to documentation. It is very rare to be able to do that and he nor the rest of us can determine which tribes all of our indigenous ancestors were from. There was way too much mixing and too few documents of the natives. I am sure Danny has ancestry from other tribes just like all of us do even in the families that are reported to only have españoles in the documented genealogy.
If you want to see if more of your Native American/Amerindian ancestry came from your paternal or maternal side you will want to get as many of the older generations tested as possible. Some will have more Native American/Amerindian than others.
Armando
Rosario,
My DNA was through Ancestry. My mom got the test for me. But, not all of my ancestors are from Mexico so my Native American is not that high. Plus, because I have some Scottish and Irish people that innermarried with my Mexican ancestors I'm not sure what all comes from Mexico. But I have come across lots of Indios while doing the research so I was a little surprised mine was so low. My Native American was 13%. My Iberian Peninsula was 17%. And, I had 3% North African an 2% Jewish. I'm guessing that that's all from Mexican Ancestors. I also had a small amount of Asian and an even smaller less than 1% Sub Saharan Africa. I'm not sure where either of those comes from, maybe Mexico but I don't know. The rest was all Ireland and British Isles and Scandinavian. But, my 1st cousin who almost all her ancestors are from Mexico also did a DNA test awhile ago and she had some British Isles and Scandinavian too, so maybe some of that came from Mexico too but I don't know how. its kinda confusing.

I have just posted in my Dropbox account several handwritten pages of selected extractions of the earliest Pinos parish baptism entries.
This is great Mary Lou. Thank you so much.
Danny C. Alonso
I agree. Thanks Mary Lou, each of your updates to the dropbox have been extremely helpful to my research.

Glad to help out. I've posted page two.
Mary Lou
Thank you very much for sharing!
I've just uploaded selected extractions made during my first visit to Pinos in 1994. These are raw notes and at times a bit challenging to decipher, but they are worth the effort. There are confirmation, baptism, marriage and death records taken from UNFILMED books dating from 1614. See my Dropbox folder: Pinos Extractions 1994 25 Pages.
Mary Lou
It is worth taking a look - amongst others, there's the origin of Juan Martin Chavez: born in Lagos, Algarve, Portugal, son of Juan de Chavez and Beatriz Gonzalez. Super! Thanks, Mary Lou!
Manny Diez Hermosillo
Wow there is a lot of great information in here. Thanks Mary Lou
Danny C. Alonso
Baptisms and deaths. I did these in 1996 during my second and last trip to Pinos, Zacatecas. The 15 pages of baptism extractions were taken from Book 1, Part 2. The 4 pages of death records were separate. Toward the end of the day my handwriting was quite desperate as time ran out. I didn’t want to stop. I am indebted to the late Ricardo Acosta Gomez, who very generously allowed me access to those precious documents. See Dropbox folder: Pinos Extractions 1996 19 Pages.

My roots are solidly Los Altos; specifically Jalostotitlan. But branches of my family tree are in San Luis Potosi, Ojuelos and Pinos. So glad these notes are helping you.
Mary Lou
Last year I tried to go to Pinos to look at the records but too many cousins to visit in San Luis Potosi.
So glad you made it to Pinos and are generously sharing your hardwork. I wish I had known you 1996, I went many times to San Luis during this time period, and I could have learned from a master!! Oops, with your records, I am! Thanks.
Diego Joseph Reynoso resided in Juchipila in 1743, originally of Jalostotitlan,
and likely the same Diego Reynoso baptised in San Juan de los Lagos in 1716,

Hello everyone, it's me again.
Sorry to be posting so much lately, but it's summer and this year I have been researching and documenting the various sources in one of my Gutiérrez Rubio and González de Hermosillo lines. My summer project began by searching through the early burials of San Juan de los Lagos, which sifted over to Jalostotitlán. I was, and still kind of am, "old school, I had researched these years ago on Microfilms way back when you had to actually go to a Family History Center and order them from Salt Lake City and were available for only a couple of weeks, unless you renewed them long-term. I would record dates, names, places, and sources, but for the volume of Microfilms and towns and years, but I couldn't get all the copies of everything I wanted. But since the Microfilms were made available online some years back, I have been busy researching in a myriad of towns gathering sources, when I have time on vacation.
Since these are some of the most prominent patriarchal lines in Los Altos, I figured lots of you would appreciate this info.
____________________________________________________
I'm pretty sure that all of you serious Alteño genealogists have this source in your notes already, but I thought it would be nice to share anyway.
On 6 May 1682, our direct ancestor, and his brother the priest, signed in their own hand at the bottom of the left-hand side page..."Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio y Hermosillo". And directly to the left is the signature of his brother, el Bachiller Lázaro Gutiérrez de Hermosillo (he appears in the 1649 and 1650 Padrones). Two brothers' signatures side by side. Very cool.
Below is a transcription of his statement and the source.

Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio y Hermosillo (aka Francisco Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio, or just Francisco Gutiérrez), born ca. 1610-1614, married to Juana de Lomelín are also my ancestors. I descend from their daughter Leonor de Hermosillo, married ca. 1676, to Juan de la Mora Hurtado de Mendoza.
And for those of you who like signatures, I also have in my notes the signature of Juan de la Mora Hurtado de Mendoza, son-in-law of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio y Hermosillo. Juan de la Mora’s signature is on the left page, and as added bonus, on the right page is the signature of Lucas Romero de Chávez, husband of Petronila González de Hermosillo (daughter of Juan González de Hermosillo III, and niece of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio y Hermosillo). Lucas Romero is precisely the one person in world history after whom Mezcala de los Romero was named. It was Lucas…he was “THE” Romero!!!

You are welcome Alicia!! I do what I can to help, following the example of others in hopes others will follow my example.
I have had many serious setbacks in my genealogy over the past few years and I am having to rebuild what I have lost, which has caused my relative absence from Nuestros Ranchos. It seems that despite my gains, I haven't moved forward. It feels like two steps forward, one step back. So sharing is part of my new process as I slowly regain what was taken.
Just hope this info is truly appreciated by our common cousins and gets discussions going here in Nuestros Ranchos.

Dear primo Steven
it is always a pleasure to read your pieces of research, they are always so clear and important that I think we all thank you very much for that and for your generosity in sharing your time and your knowledge.
Now that we are here trying to figure out the lines of the Placencia, the Aceves and the Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, I think one good line of investigation could be to try to find why in the Padrones of 1649,1650 we see that in the house of Leonor de Hermosillo were living ,among other personas, her nephew Juan de Aceves and her niece Catalina de Mejía , and they are called "hijos de Juan de Aceves y Beatríz de Hermosillo" ?
I think it is very important to find why one of the children was an outright "Aceves", and why his sister was a "Mejía" ?
Another interesting line to set clear (maybe it is clear already but I don´t have it)is :
Who were the parents of Sebastián Gutiérrez de Hermosillo (born around 1630), who married around 1655 to María Rodríguez Becerra Hurtado de Mendoza Galindo ?
I have that las couple as the parents of Petrona Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, born around 1660; this Petrona married around 1680 to Juan de Valdivia and they are my ancestors.
I have two children of the last couple :
Mariana , born around 1684, who married around 1704 to José Hernández Gamiño y Velasco; and
Sebastián de Valdivia, born around 1693, who married on May 17th 1717 in Ayo El Chico , to María de Padilla y Velasco.
I´m guessing that this Sebastián Gutiérrez is the one that is mentioned in the book of Sergio Gutiérrez about the padrones of 1649,1650, where in the Casa y Estancia of Francisco Gutiérrez and his wife Francisca de Mendoza is living one Sebastián Gutiérrez of 24 years of age , "hijo de padres no conocidos"
As I mentioned, Catalina de Mejía the sister of Juan de Aceves may be a clue to understand the lines of the Aceves, Placencias, Gutiérrez etc.; but there is another Catalina de Mejía realted to these same families! and that one was already married! precisely to Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio Hurtado de Mendoza.
The first Catalina de Mejía was single according to the "Padrón" , and was around 15-16 years of age, living in the houses of the deceased Miguel Gutiérrez Rubio; while the second Catalina de Mejía was living in the houses of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio, brother of Miguel.
Hola primos...
Me da gusto que mi trabajo es realmente apreciado. Muchas gracias primo Carlos.
Thanks to everybody who keep the discussions alive and seriously contribute to the growth of understanding. Posting helps my writing process (for the various books I have in the works and plans for) and makes me aware I should be more clear and precise to avoid any doubts or questions in readers minds. And you're right Alicia, I do double and triple check my work. You know me well.
One of my books will be a set of monographs in the style of Retoños de España en la Nueva Galicia dedicated to whole families that got left out. I shared a lot of info to Don Mariano González-Leal from my Arandas and Ayo el Chico research for his book, but I want to be more than just a footnote in his books, and write my own. Don Mariano did not include whole families and lineages in his massive opus. As Guillermo Tovar de Teresa once pointed out before he passed away, Retoños is so huge and despite its attempt to be inclusive, contains a few errors here and there and has notorious omissions.
And that's where I want to step in and present what I have collected on certain Alteño branches and additional lines NOT in Retoños such as Aldana, Barajas, Gutiérrez de Híjar, Nuño Rasura de Laín Calvo, Vital-Ibarra de Anguiano, and few others.
While researching the genealogy of Los Altos, over the years I realized that name and surname usage was very fluid and at first glance unpredictable, but was always indicative of past ancestry. Like the children of Silvestre Camacho Riquelme and those of Carlos & Juan de Aceves.
It's funny you mention Catalina Mejía and all the hijos naturales in the Aceves family. [Eres brujo] I was wondering the same thing but there are several Catalina Mejía's and they're connected, somehow. Like all the Ana Muñoz's.
First I have two, abuela y nieta. Sorry if it's half English...mitad Español, but stuff in "quotes" is directly from my notes.
The first la abuela - the Catalina Mejía I who was born ca. 1484, from Condado de Feria, Castilla y León.
The second Catalina Mejía II - born ca. 1540, in Guadalajara, was better known as Catalina Pérez de la Torre, grand-daughter of the first Catalina Mejía, and was a Mestiza. They were the parents of Juan de Ledesma y de la Torre (alias Juan de la Torre Ledesma) the progenitor of this particular compound surname - De La Torre Ledesma.
The third Catalina Mejía in my records is not connected to the first two - as far as I know yet, but it would be fascinating if they were - was born in 1625, in Jalostotitlán and died on 18 Jul 1668, in Jalostotitlán. This Catalina was also known as Catalina Camacho or Catalina Camacho Mejía, as she was the daughter of Silvestre Camacho Riquelme and Teresa González de Hermosillo, and married ca. 1646 Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio III (alias Francisco Gutiérrez de Mendoza). Both Catalina Mejía and Francisco Gutiérrez are mentioned as married in the 1649 Padrón de Jalostotitlán (Sergio Gutiérrez pg. 24).
The fourth Catalina Mejía was born ca. 1632-1634 and was first-cousin of the third Catalina Mejía. The 4th Catalina was sister of Juan de Aceves and appear in the 1649 Padrón de Jalostotitlán (Sergio Gutiérrez pg. 26) as "Juan de Aceves, español soltero 20 años ++ Catalina Mejía, española de 15 años ++ hijos de Juan de Aceves y de Beatriz de Hermosillo españoles difuntos". The third and this fourth Catalina Mejía were both daughters of two sisters - Teresa González de Hermosillo and Beatriz de Hermosillo - and thus grand-daughters of Juan González de Hermosillo and Ana Muñoz (alias María Muñoz). So they must have had a great-grandmother in commmon named Catalina Mejía.
This is tell-tale evidence, proof undeniable that they had a common ancestor in their shared lineage who was named Catalina Mejía. It was a popular name apparently. So my theory is based on the scant evidence I have gathered so far on these lines - that Juan González de Hermosillo was the son of Gonzalo García de Hermosillo and mother unknown; and that Juan's wife, Ana Muñoz was the daughter of Francisco Muñoz-Cabeza de Vaca (based on hints from Daniel Mendez Camino...and which by the way explains Francisco Muñoz Cabeza and the lineage Muñoz de Hermosillo) and mother unknown.
Gonzalo García de Hermosillo . . . Francisco Muñoz
. . . [¿Catalina Mejía?] . . . . (-1) . . . [¿Catalina Mejía?] - SPECULATION!!
. . . . Juan González de Hermosillo & Ana Muñoz
Teresa de Hermosillo . . . 1 . . . Beatriz de Hermosillo
. . . . Catalina Mejía . . . . . 2 . . . . . . Catalina Mejía
Who were these unknown spouses? Could one of them be called Catalina Mejía? Were either Gonzalo García de Hermosillo or Francisco Muñoz-Cabeza de Vaca married to a woman named Catalina Mejía? Or perhaps a great-great-grandmother back there somewhere, like the first and second Catalina Mejía's mentioned? Interesting theory, no? Anybody out there have evidence to prove or disprove this?
And on a different topic, I also wonder who were the parents of Sebastián Gutiérrez de Hermosillo (born ca. 1626-1630), who married around 1655 to María Rodríguez Becerra Hurtado de Mendoza Galindo? Supposedly Sebastián's parents were Juan de Aceves and Beatriz de Hermosillo, but now I have doubts about that. Sebastián clearly appears in the household of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio as "hijo de padres no conocidos" along with a Josefa and Ana Gutiérrez. And then there's Pedro Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, born ca. 1621, who should appear in the Padrón as "hijo de padres no conocidos" but is nowhere to be found. Could Sebastián be a younger brother of Pedro? Pedro is an illegitimate son of Juan González de Hermosillo and his own sister-in-law while still very married to his wife Ana González Florida , both of whom do not appear in either the 1649 nor 1650 Padrón. It is documented that Juan González de Hermosillo II fathered children before his marriage, and during his marriage with Ana González Florida II. Now the question is ... how many? And with how many different women?
The mother of Pedro Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, is a yet unidentified daughter of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio I and Ana González Florida I, whom I have affectionately dubbed "Fulana" or N. Gutiérrez Rubio. And who were all these "hijos de padres no conocidos" surnamed Gutiérrez living in the Gutiérrez Rubio household and precisely how are they connected?
Pedro Gutiérrez-Rubio de Hermosillo is my ancestor so I have been researching his biography and ancestry quite tenaciously. In his person the Gutiérrez Rubio and González de Hermosillo surnames were combined. Interesting indeed. More on Pedro Gutiérrez de Hermosillo in a later post.
Hasta pronto,
SFHL
I would like to purchase this book when you have it printed. Will you let
me know?
Thank you.

Dear Steve,
Is Pedro Ledesma el comendador the same Pedro Ledesma that is married to Isabel Grado? Or is Pedro Ledesma and Isabel Grados son known as el comendador? I recall reading that the de la torre Ledesma descend from Pedro Ledesma el comendador but I don't remember where I read this.
Thanks,
Rick A Ricci
Dear Steve,
Sorry about the question in the last post. Pedro de Ledesma married to to Catalina Mejia cannot be the Pedro Ledesma el comendador. The Pedro Ledesma el comendador is living in the 1400's.
the Pedro Ledesma married to Isabel Grado is not pedro Ledesma el comendador. If all the little puzzles that I put together are accurate then Pedro Ledesma el comendador is most likely the great grandfather of the Pedro Ledesma married to Isabel Grado.
The family descent from the Pedro Ledesma married to Isabel Grado is shown here in nuestro ranchos. I have put together the ancestral line of Pedro Ledesma el comendador with documented sources.
Due to my notes, I feel comfortable placing "Pedro Ledesma el comendador" as the great grandfather of our Pedro Ledesma This ancestral tree places him as cousin to an ancestor of the Rodriguez de Hijar family therefore adding to the family connections of the first families of los altos de Jalisco also being related in Spain before coming over.
I have two concerns. H
First concern The genealogical tree that people have posted on different websites have MAJOR mistakes though they claim to have sources. They have combined two Gonzalo's into one person when they are actually father and son. They have have also mixed up some of the wives, even claiming one was a unmarried partner when she was actually their mother and grandmother of the respective Gonzalo's.
I have put together a tree that uses many sources to place the ancestors in their correct place in the tree. Now that I have placed him as our ancestor, people should NOT look at these trees that are posted as being accurate. I will soon post an accurate tree as soon as my second concern is addressed.
Second concern
Many genealogists studying the de la Torre Ledesma genealogy claim that the ancestor Pedro Ledesma is the son of another Pedro Ledesma married to Isabel Grado. I have not seen the source that shows that our pedro Ledesma is the son of this couple. There is another Pedro Ledesma that also came over to mexico about the same time. Pedro Ledesma and Isabel Grado are from Zamora. Since our Pedro Ledesma is known to have been a descendant of Pedro Ledesma "el comendador" then did people decide that this was the correct one since the comendador was from Zamora?
Can someone please provide the source for showing the parents of our Pedro Ledesma as being the Pedro Ledesma married to Isabel Grado?

I have only just started digesting all of this information. I have a few questions.
In the image you posted above pertaining to Benito Munoz de la Barba and Estefania Quesada, Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo, 60 years old (1622), and Pedro Gutierrez, 59 years old (1623), both state that Catalina Gonzalez is their aunt. Im guessing Juan and Pedro are the children of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo who married Ana Gonzalez Florida. Would that make Catalina Gonzalez the sister of Ana Gonzalez Florida and Miguel Gutierrez (m Leonor Hermosillo).
I also see that you say Pedro Gutierrez is the son of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo and his sister in law. I am very interested in any information you have regarding Pedro as I am a direct descendant of everyone in this post ha!

Hello Nuestros Ranchos Forum,
Does anyone know who the parents of Maria de Escoto are who's married to
Miguel Gonzales de Rubalcaba?
Hi Danny
I would guess she's the daughter of Francisca Escoto y Tovar and Isidro de Villalobos, born in Feb 1694:

Hello my name is Rosario Tiscareño. I am very happy to be part of this group. My paternal family is from Aguascalientes.
Welcome. I have been mapping out the Tiscarenos, Rodriguez, Contreras for the last year. If you go to www.Familysearch.org and look up the following ID L6V7-36Z for encarnacion you will find Encarnacion Tiscareno to Captain Juan Tiscareno de Molina in the 1600. After that the records on Familysearch become murky because many people add their knowledge of the these famous people and many do not agree on who belongs to whom.
There are a few snags that need to be cleared because in the 1730 there are several Antonio's, records that don't match with a deceased parent and possibly two same name women married to different name husbands during the same period who the husbands are married to two sisters and one who had 3 wives etc. There needs more research and there are records for Encarnacion to be merged.
Sarod,
how do you look up that ID? where do you put that number, I've never known
how to look up ID on family search.

Each person gets an ID when created and you can locate a person with their name enter in the Find or enter an ID which is more precise because familysearch will not always give all names or even the same search of people.
Step 1. Sign into www.Familysearch.org you will see the home page with choices
Step 2. The choices are Family Tree Menu Search Indexing
(CLICK Family Tree)
Step 3. A drop down menu will appear after clicking on Family Tree title and choose
FIND
Step 4. The FIND feature will go to default of searching by NAME, next to it is FIND BY ID
Step 5. Enter the 7 digit number as it appears L6V7-36Z
Step 6. CLICK FIND
Step 7. Encarnacion Tiscareno will appear. hover over with your mouse to the name and
CLICK
Step 8. A new window will appear with the person's profile click on the name and your at the complete profile and family/resources
Thank you Sarod. I wasn't aware that you were able to search that way.

Thank you for the share the Tree is great. My grandfather Julio dba Julian was child of Encarnacion and he married Natalia Rodriguez child of Ynes Rodriguez and Ma Cleofas Duron. I have located info on the both of them but have not been able to locate a birth certificate for my grandmother Natalia. Thank you again!!!
Rosario,
Im not familiar with the actual people you mentioned but I have several
ancestors with the same last names so your ancestors and my ancestors are
proably connected at some point. I checked to see if your ancestors are on
the Wikitree, but they're not. although I can add them if you want and see
where they connect to mine. i was wondering if you know how to use
familysearch.org to look up your ancestors? cause I checked and your
ancestors are there, I think you shoud be able to go back several
generations. If you look up your great grandparents Encarnacion Tiscareño
and Maria Natividad Tirado on https://familysearch.org/search/ you'll see
that Encarnacion Tiscareno and Maria Natividad Tirado were married on
October 30, 1869.
To find the marriage record may take a little time the firs time you look,
but it gets easier. it probably helps if you can read cursive which I
couldn't at first, but now I can. my mom said they used to teach it in
school but we never really learned it, so it use to take me hours to find
one record but now I can usually find a record in a few minutes.
I have all the locations bookmarked, but if your there for the first time
lookin for the marriage of Encarnacion Tiscareño and Maria Natividad
Tirado, once your on https://familysearch.org/search/ you look under
Research By Location and click on the part of the map where Mexico is. then
click on Aguascalientes. When your there click on Show all 7 Collections
near the bottom. Then click on Mexico, Aguascalientes, Catholic Church
Records, 1620-1962, then towards the bottom click on Browse through 618,532
images, then under City or Town, click on Aguascalientes. Then under
Parish, click on Señor del Encino, although normally, you most likely will
usually click on Asunción de María, that's the more common one. then once
you're on Señor del Encino, you just look in Matrimonios for where your
1869 marriage will be and it most likely will be in Matrimonios 1854-1871,
which it is.
and then here is your record:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6DM7-QM8
It will tell you that Encarnacion Tiscareño is the son of Juan Tiscareño
and Luciana Esparza and Maria Natividad Tirado is the daughter of Marcelino
Tirado and Juana Macias. So now that you know Encarnacions parents are Juan
Tiscareño an Luciana Esparza, you now look for there marriage and its may
13 1846 in El Sagrario, Aguascalientes which is in the other parish of Asunción
de María. then you look for where the 1846 marriage is in the Matrimonios
and it'll be in Matrimonios 1846-1853 and the you just look for your date
and here's the record:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6F69-823
And there youll see that Juan Tiscareño is the son of Pedro Tiscareño and
Gertrudis Maldonado and Luciana Esparza is the daughter of Toribio
Esparza and Feliciana Rangel. And then you look for those records.
if you look up your other great grandparents Ynes Rodriguez and Maria
Cleofas Duron youll see that they were married feb 15 1882. and that record
will show you that Ynes Rodriguez is the son of Maximo Rodriguez and
Basilia Duron and that Maria Cleofas Duron is the daughter of Manuel Duron
and Nicolasa Reyes. and here is the record:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-DRZS-KCY
It's pretty easy . you just keep doing that until you run out of records or
ancestors. I don't really read Spanish but im getting better, so if you
need any help I can still proably help you find the record, so let me know
if you need any help.

Thank you for all the information and yes I have used family search but the way you explained it has helped me understand more on how to use it. I wanted to share with you that my grandfather Julio Tiscareno had another sister named Apolonia Tiscareno and three of his daughters are living, two of my aunts reside in Aguascalientes. I am trying to obtain more information from my aunt and learn the history she knows. I am also researching the Amerindian line that is in the family.
It is fine if you want to add my ancestors to your wiki tree and perhaps we will discover how we are connected. Thank you again for your help.
Rosario
Rosario,
I added your ancestors you mentioned onto the Wikitree. You linked in with
several of my relatives on the Tiscareño side. Here is the link:
http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Tiscareño-Family-Tree-65
Just click on a name. I didn't get a chance to add all the siblings. The
sources are on the bottom, just click on the image number to see the actual
records.

What's the advantage of posting tree on Wikitree?

Paul, there's several advantages to posting on the Wikitree. For me who's in high school, I don't have money for sites like Ancestry, but more important is because it's free anyone can see it without paying, unlike Ancestry and other sites. Plus it's shared by lots of people who contribute. So if your looking you'll see several different people that have added to the tree.
Danny C. Alonso
Geneanet, which has both free and paid modes, has some of the better reporting features of the online genealogy software. You can generate ahnentafel and register reports in a number of formats/styles (the can be saved as PDFs files or copied to a word processor). It can generate simple ancestor tables/lists. It can generate both ancestor and descendant charts. A nice feature is that it will determine relationships between two different people, including when there are multiple relationships. A very nice feature is that it will also draw charts to show these relationships.
I had a free access to the paid (or premium) mode for a trial period and there are some very useful features here as well.
This is worth taking a look at.
George Fulton
Geneanet is also free and it is leaner (less clutter) and it doesn't have ads like Wikitree does. Anyway, for your entry on Juan de Tiscareño http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Tiscare%C3%B1o-1 you can add María Gertrudis de Tiscareño y Chávez as his daughter. She was baptized 31 Aug 1715 and married around 17 Dec 1735 based in the Información Matrimonial indexed by George Fulton. The record is at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11757-68612-51?cc=1502404 It states that there was a dispensa de cuarto grado de consanguinidad. In the book San Gabriel Valley Families of Nueva Galicia by Rosanne Gonzales-Hardy she states that the dispensa was on 9 December 1735 and it mentions Franciso de Tiscareño, the father of Juan de Tiscareño, as the son of Juan Tiscareño and Isabel Romo de Vivar but Francisco is said to be an illegitimate child of Juan Tiscareño by Daniel Mendez at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/17966?page=3 Francisco de Tiscareño married María González de Huerta before 1681 which is when the first recorded baptism of one of their children shows up. Juan, the son of Francisco de Tiscareño and María de Huerta, was baptized 8 Aug 1687. The paternal grandparents of Francisco de Tiscareño were Luis Tiscareño de Molina y Márquez and Lorenza Ruíz de Esparza y Navarro Gabay. They were also the parents of Francisca Navarro de Gabay who married Joseph Delgado, the son of Diego Delgado & Juana Diaz, on 30 Aug 1644, and they had Diego Delgado Tiscareño who married Nicolasa López de Elizalde on 13 April 1678 and they had Felipa Delgado who married Juan de Montoya y Madera on 7 May 1713 and they had Vicente Montoya who married María Gertrudis de Tiscareño y Chávez which cause the dispensa de cuarto grado de consanguinidad. I haven't been able to find that dispensa since it isn't indexed anywhere as far as I can tell. You can add all of that to Wikitree so that Rosario can see the rest of his ancestors on Wikitree.
Armando,
Thank you, this is good information. I wasn't aware of this.
Danny C. Alonso
Paul,
I use Geneanet for my family tree (direct ancestors only). I agree with Armando and George in that it is the best free online genealogy site. I also use Wikitree for its collaboration features. Its through Wikitree that I have met and worked with several fellow Nuestros Ranchos members to connect our family trees and find new ancestors. I've also had the pleasure of working with distant relatives who have roots in colonial California, New Mexico, Texas and other parts of Mexico. The best feature of Wikitree, in my opinion, is its DNA tools which provides users information to help with matching with other users who have added their DNA test types. The benefits of this feature will only get better as more users with ancestry in 'Los Altos' join and add their DNA test types. So if your interested please send me an email and I can get you started. By the way those pesky ads go away once you login.

I just saw the wikitree and it looks great. My father was Jose Ines Tiscareno DOB 04/20/1929 born in Calvillo Ags, Mx and passed on 01/28/2007 in El Paso Texas. He was married to my mom Josefina de Anda daughter of Leobardo de Anda and Carmen Meza. Who on the tree is your close relative? I have a tree on Ancestry which I started years back but work has not permitted me too much time to do a lot of updates but I still work on it as much I can.
Thank you again
Rosario E Tiscareno
Rosario,
I'll update the Wikitree with the new information that Armando provided and the information you gave me. I just guessed on when I thought your father was born based on the births of the other children.
Danny C. Alonso
Rosario,
I added the people you mentioned yesterday. I didn't know when Josefina de Anda was born so I just guessed she was a little older than her husband based on her parents age, but not sure. about who was the closest relative, we dozens and dozens of the same ancestors, but most of them didn't connect until a few generations back.
Danny C. Alonso
Danny,
My mother Josefina de Anda was born on 03/03/1916 and passed away on 07/23/1984 in El Paso, Texas. I spoke to one of my aunts in Aguascalientes, I asked her some questions, unfortunately she did not have too much information but did share that my grandfather Julio Tiscareno was part of Los Cristeros back in the 1920's. I did some research on it and it is an interesting part of Mexico's history.
I added a profile to wikitree but still have to learn how to use it.
Thank you again for adding my relatives.

My grandfather was Julio Tiscareno Tirado who was married to Natalia Rodriguez Duron. My family is from Aguascalientes and I still have two aunts and many cousins that live there. I try to research as much as I can when work allows. Do any of my relatives sound familiar to you? Thank you for the welcome.

welcome to the group. As you probably know, there is limited amount of information for Jalpa, but I have found that it is still possible to discover roots that extend well into the 17th century and beyond.
I didn't see an immediate connection between your family tree and my families, but you may find your Sandoval line extending to Tlaltenango as mine did to Gaspar Sandoval Guzman (b~1690) and his grandfather Nicolas Sandoval. You can look at my GEDCOM to see if there any connections.
My focus is the families that first settled La Villita. In addition to what you'll find online thru FamilySearch.com, there is a 1820 Census (I've put the link to the 20 or so pages in another posting), the work that Claudia Casillas and others have put in to transcribe the marriage dispensations that pre-date 1864 in Jalpa, the Tierras y Aguas films of land grants (often listing family information), and other archives (like "Archivo de la Real Audiencia" http://www.bpej.udg.mx/ra_busc1 and El Portal de Archivos Españoles http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas/servlets/Control_servlet?accion=0).
I'd also be interested in seeing the results from your DNA test. I recently submitted my own DNA sample to Geno 2.0 to see if I could get more detailed genetic tests that I currently have about my paternal (I-P37.2 and possibly L160+/I2a1b) and maternal (Haplogroup - B4'5) lines.
Good luck!
Arturo
Thanks for the welcome Arturo!
I've started hitting a dead end with the Sandoval line because they seemed to have stayed in the Jalpa area for a while, so I haven't been able to trace them back through indices, like I have been able to with some of their spouses or other family lines.
Thanks for the additional sources - I'm sure they'll keep me busy.
I'm still amazed at the vast amount of information I have been able to put together based on the FamilySearch data.
It really is too bad that the 1930 Jalpa census is missing; it would be so useful.
My DNA shows shows Paternal haplogroup: R1b1b2a1a2f* (a subgroup of R1b1b2); 23andMe classifies this group as mostly western european
Maternal haplogroup: A2 (a subgroup of A), 23andMe classifies this as mostly the Americas/East Asia
I wanted to be sure to include the link to my folder:
