Susana:

I have a couple of lineages that go back to the Carlos de Godoy
family in Jerez. I have actually not been able to get further back
than the fact that these two people (who are both my ancestors) were
siblings born circa 1630? but I don't have their parents' names:

1. Antonio CARLOS DE GODOY
2. Catalina CARLOS DE GODOY

I also have a lot of De La Torre lineages from Zacatecas, which you
can search for in that same database.

Here is the translation of your "chiste" Jose.

The father of a wealthy family sends one of his older sons to the U.S. so that he could learn English.  The son went to one of the best
schools in the country and after a while the father calls him and asks him, "So how is it going with your English?"  The son responds, "Gosh, Dad, I can't seem to learn English and I am
forgetting my Spanish."  Then the Dad tells him anxiously, "Well you had better come back then son, lest you become a mute."

Agradecemos mucho que hagas el esfuerzo de
escibirnos en ingles.  A mi me cuesta bastante escribir en espanol tambien, pero sigamos
haciendolo como podamos y asi vamos mejorando, no...

Toribio Romo -- Mexico's Ghostly Benefactor of Illegal Aliens!

Hello;

My name is Jose Alfredo De La Torre Romo, yes I am related to the saint Toribio Romo martir from both my father and mother my father grandfather is from the town of Santa Ana my mothers side is from Jalostotitlan both are in the municipality of Jalostotitlan in the state of Jalisco. There were 2 main families in the town of Santa Ana the De La Torre's and the Romo's and they intermarried.

As for the remarks made by you there was very little intermarriage with the natives and the spanish in the municipality of Jalostotitlan. My aunt (my mothers sister) married my uncle there was an old lady (the town's gossip) said that she had seen everything a rose growing in the swamp. You see my aunt a Romo Padilla was wed to a De Anda ( who happenned to be a meztizo) as that the Romo Padillas are white Spanish. So your remark about the seperation of the different ethnicities is true. I myself am 6' 3" tall and I have dark hair and Brown eyes yet I have cousins who are blond haired and

welcome to the group. from your description it sounds like yours has
been a very full life of travel and seeing new places. I hope you find
value with us. We are a tight nit group that grows stronger everyday.

I have roots in Tepetongo but the only surname, Miranda (Gabriel Xavier
Miranda/Nicolasa Nava, they had--->Benita del Refugio
Miranda/FelipeSantaMaria) I have that is common to your list there goes
to a late 1790's or so. I together with several others, Carol and Kitty
and others have Muro but I don't think ours come from Tepetongo or go
back nearly as far as yours. Mine were mostly from ranchos close to
Colotlan/Santa Maria de los Angeles/Saus de los Marquez. Oldest
individual was Vbaldo Muro his wife being Antonia Albarez their son
Jose Cosme and Francisca Aguallo were parents to Ygnacia Muro who
married Miguel Leanos who had my GGG grandmother Genoveva Leanos who
married my GGG grandfather Tadeo Diaz and they had Jorge Diaz who had
Francisco Diaz who had my grandmother

Hello
everyone:

I'm the newest member of the group. My name is Susana
Leniski. I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico. I attended ?Universidad
Metropolitana? in Mexico
City
where I majored in International Business. Following
my education, I worked for various US based firms in Mexico.
In 1990, I moved to the United

following my husband?s career and have lived in
New York, Philadelphia, St Louis, and
Seattle. I
now live in Seattle, Washington.

I was introduced to Geneology thru my Grandmother on my mothers side.
She was the one who gave me the information to my first family tree. The
information that she gave me was invaluable. Because of my family
history, I specialize in Mexico and Spain
research from early 1900?s to the 1500?s. I have successfully traced
some family lines to the 1600s in diverse areas of Mexico including Queretaro, Zacatecas, and Mexico City. Other lines
have led to research in the Basque, Catalonia,
and Andalusia region of Spai

Unsolved mystery

Emilie/Linda:

I think you are on to something very important here. I grew up in a
predominantly Chinese neighborhood in Los Angeles and then went off
to school on the east coast, where there are very few Mexicans and
have lived in Asia and the east coast for most of my adult life. I
must say that doing this genealogy research has really led to me to
learn a lot more about my Mexican heritage and get connected to it.
I am hoping that I can disseminate what I have learned among my
relatives and that it will have a similar effect on them.

I think it is important to understand from where we came in order to
better figure out where we should go...

Unsolved mystery

Emilie, Neither I or my 4 children married within our culture. I knew
we were loosing our ethnicity when my son, then age 5, referred to a
tortilla as a little pizza... that was warning sign #1... When I see
my granchildren and 3 gr-grandkids, I see Portuguese, German, Jewish,
Black, Swedish, Norwegian, Italian but no Mexican faces.... Maybe that
helps explain my passion for preserving our Mexican history for them.
My granddaughter told me there were no Mexicans in Minn where she
lives, guess that says it all as far as how she see's her ethnicity..
I said to her, "How about you?" she just laughed and got embarrassed...
Much work to do...
