I am trying to sort out an interesting question about Juan de Santiago or de Santiago Escobar.

There is a Juan de Santiago, husband of Gertrudis Navarro, was buried on 1 Sep 1729, in Aguascalientes. If I read the burial record correctly, he was married three times (only Gertrudis Navarro is mentioned), and had 45 legitimate children, of who 24 were living at the time of his death!!

There is a Juan de Santiago (also known Juan de Santiago Escobar) who married Antonia Ruis de Esparza on 6 Jul 1665, in Aguascalients. They had at least these children:
-Juan, chr 8 Mar 1666
-Marcos, chr 8 Mar 1666 (married Beatriz de Aguirre)
-Joan (Juan), chr 30 Sep 1667
-Antonio de Santiago y Escobar, chr 5 Sep 1670 (married Juana Maria Delgado)
-Juan, chr 30 Mar 1673 (apparently married Rosa Romo de Vivar [I can't confirm this])
-Francisco, chr 30 Mar 1673
-Joseph, chr 4 Sep 1676
-Maria, chr 14 Apr 1680
-Juan de Santiago Escobar, chr 30 Aug 1682 (married 1. Josepha Flores and 2. Gertrudis Rosalia de la Paz)
-Miguel Antonio de Escobar y Santiago, chr 23 Apr 1685 (married Maria Sotelo de Villalpando)

Juan de Santiago married again, Gertrudis de Esparza y Rangel Castilla (or Ruis de Esparza) on 7 Oct 1698 (the marriage record says he is the widower or Antonia). They had at least these children:
-Josepha chr. 11 Oct 1699
-Salbador de Santiago de Escobar, chr. 9 Sep 1701 (married Elena Lorensa de Villalpando)
-Francisca, chr. 16 Mar 1703
-Maria, chr 14 Aug 1705. The baptismal record does not say that her mother is deceased.

There is a Gertrudis (no last name) wife of Juan Santiago who was buried in June 1705.

Juan de Santiago (or de Santiago Escobar) married Maria Gertrudis Navarro on 26 May 1706. There is no mention that he is a widower. They had at least these children:
-Joseph Manuel, chr. 8 May 1707
-Maria Juliana, chr. 11 May 1711
-Catha. Cecilia, chr. 8 Dec 1716
-Augustina, chr. 7 Sep 1723
-Maria de Siberia, chr 26 Apr 1725
-Mathiana, chr 30 Mar 1727
-Maria Isidra, no baptismal record, born bef 1729/30 (married Manuel Jaimes)
-Brijida, no baptismal record, born bef 1729/30 (married Joseph Theodoro Martin Ruis de Esparza)
-Juana Josepha, no baptismal record, born bef 1729/30 (married Miguel Antonio de Medina)

If these two Juan de Santiago's are the same, I am missing numerous children, but do account for most of the 24. If some of the children were stillborn, they would not have been baptised, which would explain the lack of baptismal records. Would they have been in the burial registers?

My question: Are these two Juan de Santiago's the same?

Has anyone come across these (this?) families. I would be interested to hear.

On the subject of reasons for a death I've often found "hydropecia or hidropecia" any ideas?

Joseph Puentes and I had dinner tonight with and he presented me with a large number of letters from Nuestros Ranchos members expressing their gratitude for my work on the site, many of which included monetary contributions. I am extremely moved and grateful at members' generosity and throughtfulness. I discussed with Joseph that I could not accept the money, but that I would be willing to take the money and use it as the seed money to incorporate Nuestros Ranchos as a nonprofit so as to take it to the next level.

I have been on the Boards of a number of nonprofits and understand the work involved, but I think this group has been blessed with many volunteers and as long as we continue to have such involvement and keep our goals modest, we will inevitably succeed.

Please let me know if you would like to take part in this process. I am thinking it would be best to incorporate in Texas or California where we have the largest membership as having a resident in the state of incorporation is a requirement.

Joseph Puentes y yo cenamos junto esta noche y al fin de la cena me presentó un gran número de cartas de miembros de Nuestros Ranchos expresando su agradecimiento por mi trabajo en el sitio, y muchas de las cartas incluían aportaciones dinerarias. Estoy muy conmovido y agradecido a los miembros por su generosidad y consideración. Le dije a Joseph que no podía aceptar el dinero, pero que yo estaría dispuesto a tomar el dinero y utilizarlo como el capital inicial para incorporar Nuestros Ranchos como una organización sin fines de lucro a fin de llevar a la orgnización al próximo nivel.

He sido parte de las mesas directivas de un número de organizaciones sin fines de lucro y entiendo el trabajo que supone mi propuesta, pero creo que este grupo ha sido bendecido con muchos voluntarios y mientras sigamos teniendo esa participación y mantengamos nuestros objetivos modestos, inevitablemente tendremos éxito.

Por favor, hágamelo saber si le gustaría tomar parte en este proceso. Pienso que lo mejor sería incorporar en Texas o California, donde tenemos los números más grandes de miembros ya que un requisito es tener un agente residente en el estado de incorporación.

"Incorporation" is a formal/legal manner of organizing and managing an
entity (con personalidad juridica) that is something very similar to the
Mexican SDRL (Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada) and is highly
recommended when one wishes to shield the participants from
"individual/personal" liability that may otherwise occur for acts of the
organization or other members, and it also provides a path for continuity
or "permanency" of the organization even when shareholders (or in the
contemplated case, "members") change along the way.

When "Non-profit" (sin proposito de lucro) status is recognized, the
corporation does not incur "income taxes" and financial donors can "deduct"
their donations from their Income Tax Reports.

Hello all.

I have found a family in my line that sometimes goes by PLACENCIA, and at other time they are registered as ROBLES.

My 4 gg-mother is MONICA PLACENCIA, married in 1815 to JULIAN ALVARADO in Moyahua, Zacatecas.

I found that on her children's records, she is MONICA PLACENCIA, and her father is JOSE ONOFRE PLACENCIA (her mother is JUANA MARIA DE TORRES).

However--in her marriage record and her siblings' marriage records, they are all DE ROBLES.

Can anyone shed light on this?

I'm in California and would be willing to help. I think the concept is sound, for covering site fees alone if nothing else.

I think that by-laws would have to include the process by which money distribution is determined. For example, would we have scholarship/executive committee "meetings" via mailing list, Skype, or other? Also, in thinking of a group by-laws, I think that membership should always be free but perhaps a professional genealogist or other service provider who works in our focus area would be able to pay annual dues to be a "professional member" and have some sort of advertisement on the site. We could also use funds for printing and mailing of a printed newsletter, directory, or educational materials. I think that if we incorporate, we should think about some ways for those not online to both contribute and receive benefit from group membership such as with any genealogical society, such as book borrowing, research assistance, etc.

Dream big. =)

The primary benefit of incorporating as a 501(c)(3) would be the ability of the group to take donations and have those donations be tax deductible. I have often thought it would be great to be able to sponsor members (or others researching our area of interest) in a variety of different ways, such as:
1. Financial assistance in publishing genealogical research
2. Sponsorships of speakers at genealogical conferences
3. Scholarships for members to attend genealogical conferences

Also, Joseph has been bearing the financial cost of hosting this website out of his own pocket for some time now. I think we should have it be self-sustaining and that is one of the reasons for the addition of ads to the site. They will hopefully cover those costs. As a corporation, Nuestros Ranchos as a corporation will be able to maintain its own finances. These are just my thoughts but I would be open to any other suggestions members might have.

As far as help, we are going to need:

1. A volunteer or two in Texas or California willing to put their name down as the corporate agent... basically to receive official communication from the Secretary of State on the incorporation process.
2. Volunteers to serve on a Board, consisting of at least three people, though I think five is more of an ideal number.
3. Draft bylaws, which can be fairly generic, but we will have to draft a statement of purpose that will pass muster in terms of having the Internal Revenue Service give us tax exempt status.

Previously the only way that you could search the site was by being a member and being logged in. We have now implemented a limited search function for visitors to the site who are not logged in. The search function is through Google so it only shows results for the "public" areas of the site, basically the forums.

If you would like to get more complete search results, the full search function is still available when you are logged in. You will notice that the search field and button change and that you get much fuller results when you use the site search function. Please let us know what you think.

Excel would be a great format for me to work with. However, I am not sure about Cousins in Google. Since it will be members contact information, I have to ask,what is their policy on the use of our information. Would it be better to have a place here on our site? Like creating content, members would be in charge of entering the information and how they are related? One volunteer could be in charge of problems with that particular content. Or members submit the information to someone in the group and that person could enter the data. Joseph, if this is too much to ask, I will understand.

Hi All,

I'm looking for two or possibly three volunteers to put together a
database of sorts on all the members of the group that have made a
family connection with each other. This list would give the persons
names, their email address, their location of connection and then the
details of how the connection was made.

I believe my cousin Angie Godina already started such a list but I
believe that would only be a start.

While reading the groups postings regarding confirmation records. I have read many in Aguascalientes, from 1620 to 1823. There was no set age limit. It just depended on when the bishop made his rounds. I have even seen one person (espanol) confirmed at the age of 70 or so. I would have to say to not overlook them, same as burial records. The Teocaltiche confirmation records are not as clear as the Aguascalientes records....and there are a few microfilm rolls where the pages are not in order. Off the top of my head I can not recall the time period as my cousin is the Teocaltiche expert.

I have found many missing links using confirmation and burial records, when my line does not appear in baptism records or marriage records.

In the files section, under reference material, I have posted a PDF guide to old Spanish writing (paleography) of the 12th through 17th centuries, Spain and her colonies.

The file includes upper case, lower case and numerals.

One of the issues that has come up with the upgrade of the site is the lack
of organization in the Albums section of the site.

I have contacted a number of you regarding albums that are marked private
and should really be public, in the sense that they do not contain photos of
people and would be valuable to non-members as resources. Examples of these
include screen shots of searching through the LDS familysearch.org website,
historical maps and photos of contemporary maps.

I have changed many of these photos previously marked private to public so
they are now viewable even by non-members. I will be sending personal
e-mails to those of you who have photos that are not in albums at all or are
in inappropriate albums, but I would appreciate if those members who have
uploaded photos could go to the site and check that:

1. Your photos are not orphaned, i.e. not in an album or in an inappropriate
album
2. If your album(s) or photo(s) are marked "Restricted" that they really
need to be marked as such. If your album is marked public, but all of the
photos are marked restricted, there is a problem. Either the album should
be private or the photos should be public.
3. You do not have a proliferation of albums in different spots for the same
type of content. Ideally a user should have a personal album in the
Members' Genealogical Scans and/or Member Photos album and other photos
should go into the common subject themed albums.

Adrian, I just checked your file and see that I have some information on some of your lines. You share the Banuelos line with a few people in Nuestrosranchos. I have your Guerrero/Briceno line. with one record I need to put in to take those lines back one more generation, I will do that on Tueday. I always put any record I have online so if you click on the name it will give you my record if I have one.

I have my records on Rootsweb.com. I also have your Sanchez and a few other lines. Just put your name of interest and it will come up, I'd suggest you check the index next for names of interest to you. I think I have some records that would be of interest to you.

Our new site has template has the ability to rotate banners, i.e. different pictures appear on the top of the page each time the site loads.

While I have done my best with my meager graphic design capabilities to put something interesting and relevant up there, I am sure others can do better. I would ideally like to get different collages or people's photos of their ancestors, snippets of document scans, etc. going up there.

If anybody is up to the task to create some alternative banners or would like to volunteer specially old or beautiful photos, please let me know. The banners should be PNG or JPG files with dimensions of 970x200px.
