I believe it refers to a secondary degree, bachiller. For example, see http://

I have see this designation often in old records from Mesquitic area.

Thank you  Ed for your response to my
question about the meaning of "Br."  Other members of the group have also
come up with the answer, Bachiller.

Thanks to all of you.

Dear John,

(I've always wondered what it felt like to write that!:P) My Cenobio was born in Jerez around 1846, and I don't know if he was an only child or youngest or middle or oldest son. I found matrimonial information pertaining to his first marriage in 1864. His first wife was Eleuteria Tovar and she was 15 to his 18 years. They had the following children: Josepha, Candelaria, Jesus, and Herlindo (1878).

My great-grandmother, Francisca Saldivar, was his second wife. With her, he had Paula (1883), Matteo, Jose (1899), Juan, Altagracia (1894), Sarah, and Francisco. Hope we can connect somehow. Marge:)

Well the support committee would be making the final decision on that.
But my reason for suggesting the funds creation was to have small
stipends available to send to members of the Ranchos group that found
themselves in need. And for causes that would directly benefit the
purpose of the Ranchos group. We would all be able to submit
suggestions for the use of the funds but the committee would make the
final decision on the distribution.

I was thinking if a
few of us sent in a few buck we might be able to have $100 stipends available to
send off to members that are in need or for projects that are supportive of the
Ranchos Group. This effort would need a volunteer "use" committee which would
have at least 3 members (no ties) and one of those would be a treasurer to hold
the funds. Before the "use" committee would decide on a "use" they would bring
up the use for group discussion. but after the discussion the decision for the
use would be made by

I hope everyone had or is still having a good holiday and I too contribute $25.00 to the support fund. Just let me know where and when to send it.

On thing I've noticed since this group was
started and that is if there is ever a lack of participation all I have
to do is say anything at all about Comida and watch out I'm about

I guess I said all that only to say that I need some content for my

here feel comfortable working with me to create an audio file on some
aspect of Historical Mexican Food? It could be a reading from a book,
it could be reading some short oral history of your family related to
some food and then the recipe. It could be a talk about how the food
preparation was an integral part of your families history. I think you
all get my point. Let me know if anyone is interested. . .I'll call you
