Introduction of Israel Sustaita Loera

I'm really happy to be part of this great community and I thank everybody that runs this website. My family comes from the small town of Ojocaliente, Calvillo in in the state of Aguascalientes. In Ojocaliente there are many people with the surname Loera and my research has proven that many of us are related .This area used to be called Valle de Huajucar or Huejucar.

I started my research about 4 months ago and it's been an amazing experience because to me it feels like I'm a lucky archaeologist who discovers a lost tomb and I'm the first one to see it in hundreds of years. I was very surprised to discover that both my grandparents on my mother's side and my grandmother on my father's side are related. All of them are descendants of Ricardo Loera and Barbara Gertrudis Lopez who were married, probably, between 1750 and 1770. It is very frustrating that I have not been able to find out who their parents were to continue my research and I hope somebody can help me on this. It was also surprising to find out that I'm related to the Fernandez de Palos from Aguascalientes.

Hello everyone! My name is Angelica, I'm new here. Began researching my family roots about a year and a half ago now and have been regularly/actively working on my family tree. My Great Grandfather's line ultimately led me to Moctezuma II...which is why I'm here, to learn more and share more.

I'm also looking for my Macias family line since that side of his family has proven more challenging, and more difficult to decipher. My Great Grandfather was Higinio Saldivar (or Zaldivar in some documents) Macias who married Luciana Navarro Guizar. My Great Grandfather was born in Monte De Yanez, Nochistlan Zacatecas...everyone before him remained in that same area as well.

Here is the link to my file: http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/AJaime76

Thank you all! And nice to "meet" you!

Juan de Villalpando

Pat.

Yes, what started all this on Juan de Villalpando and Ursula Olaes, is that in the Archives of New Mexico, there is a marriage for their son Juan Villalpando to Ana Maria Romero, June 2, 1694 in New Mexico. The record states that he was a native of "La Villa de Leon", and gave his parents names. He was a soldier at the presidio in Santa Fe.

Genealogists in New Mexico mistakenly put up trees that put the younger Juan as being born in Leon, Valladolid, Spain, but now we know that the Leon referred to was the one in Guanajuato. There is no record of births for the two Juans found yet, and records of the time did not always mention the grandparents. What is so interesting is that there are several Juan de Villa del Pando or Villalpando and several Ursula Olaes born in Valladolid, Spain, so those might be relatives or ancesteors.

GEDmatch

Hello family! Since we all share a lot of the same surnames/lineages on here, I'm curious to see how many of us share DNA on GEDmatch. My Kit numbers are KK6796917, AF6582473. My Dad's GEDmatch kit number is LM2514076. And my Maternal Grandmother's kit number is QW7849654.

My Maternal Great Grandmother was from Villa De Alvarez, Colima.
My Paternal lineage mainly Jalisco, Los Altos, Nochistlan Zacatecas, Zapotiltic, Zapopan, La Barca...

Let's see what comes up! :)

Ancestry DNA

Hi Everyone,
I recently got the results of my ancestry DNA and I wanted to share the findings.

Ethnicity Estimate:
Native American—North, Central, South 37%
Southern Zacatecas
Southeastern Zacatecas
Eastern Jalisco, Aguascalientes & Western Guanajuato
Western Aguascalientes, Northern Jalisco &
Southern Zacatecas
Northwestern Jalisco
Western Aguascalientes & Southern Zacatecas
Spain 22%
France 19%
Portugal 6%
Ireland & Scotland 3%
Italy 2%
Native American—Andean 2%
Cameroon, Congo, & Southern Bantu Peoples 2%
European Jewish 2%
Senegal 1%
Northern Africa 1%
Mali 1%
Norway 1%
Basque 1%

The results named detailed areas (Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Jalisco) where I have found the majority of my ancestors during my years of research, therefore I was happy with the results.

Two things jumped out at me, 19% France and Western Guanajuato.

Could this be a result of political maps constantly changing. I've never considered Guanajuato on familysearch as a source for my research. Also, I don't have an explanation for 19% France, other that the old kingdoms bordered each other.

Any thoughts.

Diaz-De Leon family

Fellow “Ranchos” members:

Years ago, while researching 1700’s death records in Aguascalientes, my eye was caught by an unusual entry which has haunted me ever since - so much so that I felt compelled to record it in a fictional fact-based story.

Although this particular entry concerns the Diaz-De Leon family of the Hacienda Peñuelas, it could easily have been about any other wealthy landowners of that time and place.

El Parbulito was written not to judge any particular individual or family, but rather to illuminate the separate reality of the disenfranchised, to give a voice and presence to the many nameless forgotten ones that we genealogists sometimes overlook or ignore in our eagerness and zeal to expand our own lines and generations.

For those interested, El Parbulito was recently published (September 2019) by the on-line Latino literary magazine Somos en Escrito, and can be found at somosenescrito.com. I’m grateful to the editor, Armando Rendón, for finding the story worthy of print.

Respectfully,

Romos de Vivar

Found an article in a newspaper from Encarnacion de Diaz dated 1973 written by Manuel J. Aguirre. He states that someone found some old papers that stated 2 brothers came from Spain in 1548 Pascual Romo de Vivar age 28 and Benito Romo de Vivar 25 yrs old. I have been trying to research the info in the article but have not found anything on a Pascual or Benito Romo de Vivar from that time period. Has anyone heard of these brothers? Both my husband and I descend from Diego Romo de Vivar.

Can’t find baptism registration

Has anyone ever not found a baptism registration between 1845-1860 in Jalisco? I have been searching for one for my great great grandfather for about a year now and no luck. Does this mean they didn’t get baptized? I found his marriage church record so I’m assuming he had to be a catholic in order to get married in the church? I have search the surrounding municipals documents where it says he was originally from the surrounding neighbor.

ANTONIO DE MATA Y REBOLLAR

Antonio de Mata y Rebollar is my Maternal (Martinez/Pena) 6th Great Grandfather. He was born about 1674. He married Rosa de Santos on 15 April 1695 in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. Question: Is the "Iglesia Cienega de Mata", Ojuelos, Jalisco, Mexico, in anyway historical connected to Antonio Mata or his family?

Thank you.

does anyone have info. on Cecilia lopez(early landowner in tlaltenango)'s mom

I'm asking this since a few months ago i got my maternal grandma's mtdna results, which were c1c4. I was a bit surpised since i previously thought cecilia was full spanish(the mtdna indicates otherwise). Besides that when i was researching cecilia, i couldn't find much about her mom besides her name. I would like to figure whether it was cecilia's mom or grandma that was full amerindian and whether they were native to tlaltenango or somewhere else.

Soria Search Inquiry

I have searched extensively but so far am unable to locate documents for my paternal Great-great-grandfather Barbaro Soria, although I have found his children, which gave names of his father and grandfather. The Soria family settled in the areas of Moyahua, Juchipila and Nochistlan, in Zacatecas, Mexico. I am familiar with the origins of the Soria name but cannot make a specific connection from Mexico back to their native Spain. They may have settled Central Mexico by way of the Gulf, or through South America, and maybe even from the Pacific side. I have been searching ancillary records such as day-by-day "defunciones," however, specific records in my searches are either missing for those particular years I wish to search, or are in "desorden" and offer no starting point. I wonder if anyone has connections to people in the area who could direct me perhaps to other church records I may not have seen. Perhaps even burial records in Moyahua, Juchipila and Nochistlan. I would welcome any new information.
My Grandfather, Juan Soria was born at El Ranchito, in Juchipila, 11 Feb 1888. His maternal side, Villalobos, has deep roots in Nochistlán. His father, Teodocio, was born at Mesquituta, in Moyahua, Zacatecas, 26 Mar 1867. I found no documents for Teodocio’s father, grandfather, or great-grandfather, names respectively: Barbaro Soria (wife – Sostenes Luna), Juan Soria (wife – Justa Estrada), and Antonio Soria (wife – Rosalia Portagal Rodriques).

Bernardino Prudencio de Marin Herrera and Nicolaza Paula Sanmartin Estrada - Tlaltenango, Zac 1730's

For years, I have been trying to find a link between my Luis Herrera and the above referenced couple. Success - I found a birth certificate where it indicates he is the son of the above couple, one where many of us can trace our roots.

Now the question for the group: Luis Herrera and his siblings were born in el rancho las Aviles located - I know it's in Tlaltenango, because that was where the jurisdiction was from. It appears my earlier ancestors were from this rancho before they settled in Los Aguajes - a ranch east of Cicacalco, which is south of the town of Tlaltenango.

Saludos

Francisca de Alcocer esposa de Diego Temiño de Velasco

I have found some sources that give some genealogy on Diego Temiño de Velasco’s wife Francisca de Alcocer. I would like to hear your comments and any information you could share as to whether what has been published here is valid.

Francisca de Alcocer
Father: jurado Hernando de Bañuelos
Mother: Isabel de Alcocer
Paternal Grandfather: Alonso Ruiz de Temiño
Paternal Grandmother: Juana de Bañuelos
Maternal Grandfather: jurado Diego de Alcocer
Maternal Grandmother: Blanca Núñez
Maternal Maternal Great Grandfather: Pedro de Toledo
Maternal Maternal Great Grandmother: Beatriz Fernández

Here are the sources:

There are postings on the nuestrosranchos.org that say that the parents of Francisca de Alcocer were jurado Hernando de Bañuelos and Isabel de Alcocer:
“Mariana Temiño de Bañuelos y Alcocer, hija del Alcaide de Temiño don Diego
de Velasco y de doña Francisca de Alcocer, quien fuera hija del Jurado don
Hernando de Bañuelos y de doña Beatriz de Alcocer, naturales de Bureba.
Burgos en Castilla la Vieja, España.”
- (Unconfirmed) Historia familiar, detallada genealogía...Por Leonardo De la Torre y Berumen

The parents of Francisca de Alcocer’s father, jurado Hernando de Bañuelos, were Alonso Ruiz de Temiño and Juana de Bañuelos. The parents of Francisca de Alcocer’s mother, Isabel de Alcocer, were jurado Diego de Alcocer and Blanca Núñez:
“Alonso Ruiz de Temiño, marido de Da Juana de Bañuelos, vecinos de Temiño. Hijos:

The parents of Blanca Núñez were Pedro de Toledo and Beatriz Fernández:
“2) Diego de Alcocer, jurado, marido de "Blanca Núñez, hija de "Pedro de Toledo y de Beatriz Fernández (San Bartolomé).”
-p. 208 Los conversos y la Inquisición sevillana, Volume 5 Juan Gil

There are some references to a Alonso Ruiz de Temiño in 1491 suing over his grandfather el comendador Sancho Sanchez de Velasco’s estate. If this is the same person, then this may be where the speculation comes over Gral. Baltazar Temiño Bañuelos being a descendent of the Count of Haro.

I am finding references to a marriage between Juan Padilla Davila and Antonia Martin del Campo in several places. The date given is 25 abril 1705, either in Jalostotitlan or San Juan de los Lagos. I am having trouble finding the record for the matrimony because neither Jalostotitlan nor San Juan de los Lagos have books for marriages that early. Does anyone know where I need to look? Thank you, Daniel.

Cayetano Guizar Valencia

Hi guys and gals

I found Cayetano as the son of Bernabe Valencia and Magdalena Valencia, he appears in the padron of Cotija in 1742, however he does not appear on the records for any of the other padrones, which could mean he lived in a different town, probably for work

In my records Cayetano Guizar married Juana de Torres (several of the Barbosa grandchildren indicate this couple as grandparents)
Rosalia Guizar, daughter, Married Jose Antonio Barbosa, their son
Jose Miguel Barbosa Guizar married Manuela Munguia in Tamazula de Gordiano, Dec 3, 1818

At that time in Cotija, (mid 1750s) this Guizar family seems to be only one of that name, however, it seems like they left many, many descendants in the area.

Does anyone have more info on this particular couple?

Any info is appreciated.

:) Cheers

Apellido Ledesma

Hello Primos!

In recent days I started researching the Ledesma lastname especifically the Ledesmas of Michoacan and so far I found out that they came from Guanajuato where I´ve located An Antonio de Ledesma (born around 1635 in Silao, Gto.) who married on 8-nov-1658 in Lagos to María Burgueño.

It seems that the branch that I´m researching decends from Domingo de Ledesma who married around 1674 to Micaela de Espinosa and were the parents of Don Antonio de Ledesma, baptized mar-16-1675 in Salamanca, Gto.

I´ve seen here some posts that say that de Ledesmas of Jalisco are descendants of conqueror Pedro de Ledesma and Isabel de Grado. Would you share please the lines from the mentioned conqueror to the jalisco descendants? Have you found any relationship with the Ledesmas of Guanajuato?

I´ll appreciate greatly any help

What are the most traditional dishes and foods of San Juan De Los Lagos?

Having not even really discovered Mexican food, real mexican food until last year, where I Had some Suadero from a Comal, made by some Jalisco Locals in their backyard, I am now utterly entranced by street style tacos, andI wonder.
What are the dished and foods most commonly associated with San Juan De Los Lagos in Los Altos in particular. I know it's Jalisco food, by are there any speciality dishes from that town?

Thanks!
P.

Greetings To All

My name is Betty Ritchley and like many of you, I have a rich and proud family ancestry based in Zacatecas. My mother's family started out in Los Jauregui, Nochistlan de Mejia, Zacatecas with Cristoval Manuel Jauregui Yanez and Catarina de Sarate Aramburu. The families kept migrating north, eventually settling in San Miguel de los Anchos in Chihuahua. My grandparents, Librado Quiroz and Maria Trinidad Rodriguez y Solis, eventually moved to Juarez, Chihuahua to escape the revolution.

I have been researching our family for a while now and have learned so much. If I can share any information that I have found, please let me know. I want to say how very glad that I have found all of you and look forward to working with you to learn more about our families and how they connect.
