Hi everyone,
I've been doing some research on Alonso Velasco Bernal, but I can't seem to find any documents that mention his children. Are there any later chronicles that mention them? Everyone seems to identify at least two sons, Bernabé and Francisco. My question is, how do we know they are the sons of Alonso Velasco Bernal and Ana Fuentes Flores?
This has alot of archives of colonial Mecico. Does anyone know if it can be viewed online?

I visited my parents for christmas and my dad happened to be doing inventory on his massive coin collection. For the first time ever I saw it in its entirety. They were pretty neat so I decided to start myself.
Now in all of history so many different coins have been made, so I decided I needed a focus for my collection. I decided I would collect coins that my ancestors would have used.
So if you guys were curious, here are some pictures of what reales looked like that were minted in colonial Mexico.
Now we know what coins they used to pay for those notary pages!

I am not sure if this was discussed before, but I wanted to get additional information and this forum's thoughts on the ethicalness of performing DNA tests on the remains of deceased ancestors.
1. I have no background in biology/chemistry, but I was wondering whether anyone has some insight as to whether DNA can be gathered from the remains of interred ancestors. For example, would bones that are 150 years old provide DNA which could be compared to more "recent" DNA? How useful would such DNA be?
2. How ethical would it be to "dig up" old tombstones and to perform these tests? Is there a period of time/generations where it becomes more and more okay? Say individuals deceased over 100 years ago?
3. Are there any university projects or initiatives that have taken this approach?

I would suggest RESENDING your introduction to the group and ADDING the URL to your folder. I would ALSO suggest anytime you add information to your folder you send a message to the group letting us know you've made changes and ALSO ADD the URL to your folder. The goal is for other members researching YOUR same geographical location in our research area to possibly make a connection and either advance their own genealogy or help you advance your genealogy. Oh and don't forget you might find a cousin or two in the process.

My question is about what provinces to be included in the geneology of Nuestros Ranchos.
It is supposed to be the provinces of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes which back in the colonial days would had been the region of "Nueva Galicia."
Nueva Galicia as well as other northern provinces such as Nayarit, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Los Californias and Texas was under jurisdiction of the Real Audencia Government of Guadalajara of Jalisco province. As well as the Catholic Bishop of Guadalajara who had religious jurisdiction.
So my question is should nuestros ranchos should include the geneology of those other northern provinces as well since our ancestors were governed by the Real Audencia and Catholic Bishop of Guadalajara/Jalisco?

My name is Adrian, I’m in my early 20s and recently became interested in my ancestry. My mothers side of the family is from Calvillo, Aguascalientes, El Bajio de San Jose, Encarnacion de diaz, Jalostitlan and Teocaltiche. My fathers maternal side is from Meson de Los sauces, Encarnacion de diaz and Jalostitlan, teocaltiche, San Juan de Los Lagos and Lagos de Moreno. My fathers side is where I would like to expand. I’ve hit a brick wall as my paternal grandfather and his father were born in the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s so there is no record of their birth in Mexico to start my journey back. So if anyone has any info on the Martinez family in meson de Los sauces please PM me.

Also I’ve gotten my DNA results back from 23&me, Ancestry Dna and familytreedna can anyone give me insight on how I have Cryprus DNA, 2% and middle eastern DNA 4% as a Mexican. I have managed to find key members on this dna like my Jewish ancestors who were European Jews forced to convert. I still haven’t found any actual records on the indigenous people. Just Mestizo records.

In the 23 Sep 1760 Colotlan baptism of Matheo (second from bottom right at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-F9S3-KX?cc=1874591&wc=3J4B… ), his birth is placed at Hazcata.
I cannot find any such place. Does anyone else know about Hazcata?
I am looking for the images that correspond to the indexed records for batch M60575-1. The records are for San Juan Bautista, Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, México, and they are linked to digital folder number 4786295 and microfilm number 654418. I searched the referenced film (654418) and didn't find images that matched the corresponding indexed records. Has anyone here come across them on another roll of film? Any help would be very much appreciated.
I've hit a brick wall with a RAMIREZ line I'm currently researching. I'm looking for the parents of Nicolas RAMIREZ and his spouse Maria de la Concepcion MORALES/MORONES/MORANTES. They lived in “las Cruces” in the parishes of Ayo el Chico and Arandas.

My name is Dora Escobedo (previously Gomez) and I've been a member of this group for a long time. However, I had life hit me and was not able to keep up with the research due to family obligations and hitting numerous brick walls. I am very glad to be back!!
After the pandemic and availability of more records on Familysearch.org, I was able to get back online and have found numerous ancestors. On my husband's Jalisco side (Escobedo) I have been able to go back to Capitan Diego Romo de Vivar and some other Captains. Of course on my side, I have many mestizos in the state of Zacatecas and one branch that comes from Jalisco. I'm still looking for a carpenter or merchant at least to match the captains on my husband's side of the family :).
My research areas are Sain Alto, Sombrerete, Rio Grande, Villa de Cos, Fresnillo, and Valparaiso, in Zacatecas. As well as Magdalena, Tequila, Cuquio, Huejuquillo, San Juan de los Lagos, in Jalisco.
The surnames are many but the main ones are Gomez, Escobedo, Castro, Gonzalez, Castrejon, Corona, Mejia, Monsivais and Flores.
In particular, I am also interested in obtaining old photos of any ancestors. I also have a DNA test on Ancestry. Looking forward to more research and connections.

Has anybody researched in or around Cañadas de Obregon? I'm looking for the church records for this town but they don't come out on familysearch. Were they ever filmed? And if not, are they located in another parish? I'm trying to find info on the Perez family (yes, those from the famous corrido), who may be related to my wife. I was able to find the civil registry of Cañadas, and the death certificates of Ysidro Perez, Mariano Perez, and Jesus Munoz Perez. However, I'm also interested in their church records since they may provide additional information about this family.
Any advice? I learned that the town was named Villa Obregon for several decades, but that name does not come out on familysearch either.

I have been searching for Manuela Padilla's baptismal document for many years with no luck. I have found Her parents' Marriage record and her mother's death record. Her mother died around the time I suspect she was born. The death record states her death was sudden and violent so I suspect she died in childbirth. Few days ago we were commenting on how in Family Search there is been a huge amount of records modified and wrongly merged (on purpose) by trolls, been the most notorious "Mbarrena" who also goes by other names.
One of the problems in Family Search is the "volunteering" that seems to give "points" to LDS Church members, who many been inexperienced end up confusing names and merging people generations apart. This is still understandable. I'm not referring those here in this topic. I'm exclusively talking about people who intentionally change data even when sources are given to prove it.
This are definitely trolls, they just do it for fun or out of jealousy, they have no intention on helping or collaborating, they just want to mess around with the information.
In that conversation we had in the other topic (which I didn't continue, as it was kind of hijacking the main topic) there was a suggestion to use WikiTree, I checked it out and give it a try, well, it only takes a few moves before you get bombarded by this trolls such as "Don Ximenes", you can tell they hide under silly nicknames, they every connect themselves to the tree, and they spend quite a bit of time changing information instead of researching, in fact they will not add real information, they just go after what has already been posted.
The consequential problem and one that is becoming more eminent is that new comers may think that the data that is been wrongly modified is correct and they en up perpetuating wrong information (without intention) due to the lack of experience.
This is why I think we need to point out this profiles so people are aware of this and hopefully prevent inexperienced researchers from taking data for granted.
Once again, there is nothing better than posting genealogy on personal website and for everyone to keep the records safe in your own files.
