Nunca he encontrado el bautismo Gerardo!

Laurel,

It may be very likely that you descend from the Oredain family of Guadalajara. They were very well established in the 17th and 18th centuries in Nueva Galicia and Mexico City. Countless of research reports and a couple of books are dedicated to this family. I am related to them through the Fernandez de Hijar. Let us know if you find any other info.

In the link you sent it says the record comes from film #299421
If yo go to:
https://familysearch.org/
Catalog
Search Film Numbers, 299421
Registros parroquiales, 1616-1961
... and then you search for film 299421, you'll find a microfilm for baptisms that includes some marriages:
Bautismos 1616-1662 incluye algunos matrimonios

It seems like the images of the books you are looking for have not been uploaded yet. You should check every now and then and hopefully sooner than later they will be available. Besides that, you can go to a Family History Center an request the microfilm. You may find more information at familysearch.org

Abram,

Since my ancestor Cristóbal Pérez López was married 19 December 1577 he
couldn't have been born after 12 Oct 1586. Therefore, the marriage you are
looking for is for a couple that aren't the parents of Cristóbal Pérez
López. These are common last names and documents from that era in Spain are
extremely hard to find so it isn't very likely you will be getting any
farther on that line unless you go to Spain to look up the documents in
person as others have done for other families. You energy is better spent
researching other ancestors until you are old enough to go there yourself.

Armando,

I am so confused now so the record that I'm talking of cristobal my ancestor parents is really not his parents .so now there is no way of me finding out more about cristobals parents just that they were from spain and of course their names.

Comentario

Abram,

1. Cristóbal Pérez López is my ancestor. Villalobos was the maternal
surname of my grandfather.

2. Since Cristóbal Pérez López was married in 1577 he would have been born
before 1562 therefore his parents should have married before that date.

3. The record you are looking for is after the date that Cristóbal Pérez
López was born and even married therefore that is a different couple with
the same names as the parents of Cristóbal Pérez López.

4. Just because there is a couple with the same name as the parents in a
baptism or marriage it doesn't mean they are definitely the same people.
There are coincidences such as in this case, but this doesn't fall within
the chronological dates needed for everything to match. This is important
and unless there is another record such as a dispensa explaining they had
an illicit affair such as the González Bermejo dispensa you shouldn't
assume they are the same couple especially when the dates are so far off.

You are correct Armando. And it was for this reason that I made a big mistake in dismissing a possible couple when researching a branch in Zacatecas. it was not until I found a dispensa that stated that the parents were married many years after 5 of the children were born that I returned to the couple I had dismissed as a possibility.

Armando,

Well thanks alot Armando for making it clear to me and giving me the heads up that, that marriage record and those individuals were not Cristobals parents becuase right now i would've thought that they really were his parents. There is this website that i found about the Macias-Valadez family and other ancestors of mines extremely interesting.

http://www.historiasyrecuerdosdeencarnaciondediaz.com/macias.html

Abram

Comentario

Abram,

Well, I am glad I cleared that up. I didn't want somebody posting incorrect
info about my ancestors.

Mines is incorrect English. Never use an s with mine unless you are talking
about mining for minerals. It's yours and mine, not yours and mines.

That website has incorrect info about my ancestors and distant relatives.
Be careful what you use from there. I have known about the site since
Miguel Beltran posted about it 27 August 2010 at
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/18955 I have informed Miguel and
posted on NR about one of the errors found at
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/19386

One of the errors he has are that Pedro Macías Valadez, the husband of
Luisa de Villegas, was the son of Felipe Macías Valadez and María de Tavera
which is not possible that María de Tavera was the mother unless he was
born out of wedlock 18 years prior to the marriage of Felipe Macías Valadez
and María de Tavera which is very doubtful.
http://www.historiasyrecuerdosdeencarnaciondediaz.com/insurgencia.html#…

Another error is the following "*Don Nicolás Macias Valadez y su esposa
Doña Luisa de Villegas, padres de Doña Catharina Macias-Valadez y Villegas,
la esposa de Don Tomas de Villalobos*." The parents of Catarina Macías
Valadez, my ancestor, were *Pedro* Macías Valadez and Luisa de Villegas,
the exact same couple previously mentioned.
http://www.historiasyrecuerdosdeencarnaciondediaz.com/nobles.html#ref12

There is another error but I can't remember the details of it. Basically,
you need to triple check every source and look for original documents when
using info no matter where you get it from.

Jose Cenon Munoz Duran is the one being baptized his parents are Jose Antonio Munoz and Rosalia Duran

Magdalena uses the compound surname Gonzales Bermejo in the baptism of her
son Joseph Ruphino -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JMPS-VBD

That might help you find more on them. There are several people with the
surname Gonzales Bermejo that show up in Zacatecas in familysearch. There
are two that show up as Gonzales Bermejo in Guadalajaradispensas.com

Armando,

Thanks for that tip it really helped alot.I had a question the only info so far iv'e found of Magdalenas was her son Joseph Ruphino i can't really find anything else.I completley dislike how in the earlier baptims records the grandfathers and grandmothers weren't really said only the parents and the padrinos.

Comentario

There is nothing that can be done about the grandparents not being named in
records prior to 1800. Sometimes you have to use records of siblings,
descendants, informaciones matrimoniales, and dispensas together to
determine the grandparents. That's the way it is for most of us.

There are more baptisms of the children of Isidro Muñoz and Magdalena
González Bermejo (Ruiz de Esparza). Set the search to any in Mexico
1750-1800 with the father as Isidro Munoz and the mother as Magdalena.
Don't use a surname for Magdalena and you will she was mentioned once as
Maria Magdalena de Esparsa, another time her surname wasn't recorded,
another time the surname was transcribed incorrectly as Bermefo.

I also tried the father without a surname and there are a few baptisms with
Isidro Duran and Magdalena Esparza as the parents. They married 29 Jul 1752
and might be the same as Isidro Munoz and Magdalena Gonzalez. This is a
link to the marriage.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15185-43110-81?cc=1410092&wc…

You should also look for the información matrimonial apart from all of the
baptisms to see what you can find. The link to the volume for the
información matrimonial is
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15192-13468-86?cc=1410092&wc…

The marriage record for Magdalena Esparza states she was from Asientos
[Aguascalientes]. You should also look at the volumes of información
matrimonial located there since there can be record there as well as in
Nochistlán.

Abram,

Rosalia Duran has been very illusive for me. I believe she may actually be
Rosalia Aguirre. Does anyone have information that could help solve this
mystery? I have two marriage certificates for Jose Antonio Munoz and Maria
Rosalia Aguirre dated February 9, 1785, one found in Informacion
Matrimonial link of Nochistlan and the other in the Matrimonios link.

I've never been able to find a document containing Maria Rosailia's parents
with the Duran last name. Can anyone shed some light on Maria Rosalia?

As far as Cenon's grandmonthers I read Ana Maria Sorca. As for Maria
Magdalena, Armando is correct. Maria Magdalena does have a compound last
name of Gonzalez Bermejo. Her parents are Joseph Gonzalez Bermejo and
Gertrudis de Chaves.

Armando,

Thanks for the heads up on the dispensas for Gonzalez Bermejo. I'll have to
look into that.

Juan,

There is a marriage for Joseph Gonzalez Bermejo and Gertrudis de Chaves but
it is on **15 August 1748 which would have been too late to be Madgalena
parents. However it states that she was a widow of Manuel González Bermejo
which leads me to believe he was the father of Magdalena and not Joseph.
Manuel and Gertrudis had children in San Felipe, Guanajuato which is on the
border of Jalisco. Here is a link to the marriage in case you or Abram want
to see it -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19052-56576-48?cc=1874591&wc…
you or someone else has the información matrimonial I am interested in
getting that link.

Gertrudis shows to be the daughter of Alejandro de Chávez [Fragoso] and
Paula de Rivas.

There is an old post by Daniel Mendez del Camino that states the following:

."

He also stated the following:

"*My Antonio Chaves y Fragoso married all the way in San Luis Potosi and
settled in Aguas, he was son of Alejandro Chaves Fragoso, son of Diego
Chaves y Fragoso, son of Pedro Chaves y Fragoso son of the patriarch and
matriarch, Leonardo Fragoso and Ana de Chaves. They owned much land in
Teocaltiche.*"

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/17966?page=3

If this is the same Diego Chaves y Fragoso I think it is then he married
Antonia de Villalobos on 25 Feb 1664 in Aguascalientes

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12446-30300-45?cc=1410092&…

Antonia was the daughter of Francisco de Villalobos y Pérez and María de
Torres alias María Vásquez de Retamosa alias María Macías Valadez.
Francisco de Villalobos was the son of Cristóbal de Villalobos and María
Pérez de Nava.

Let me know what you think of all of this.

Armando

Since Magdalena married in 1755 it is impossible for her to have been born
after the marriage of Joseph González Bermejo and Gertrudis Chávez Fragoso
which took place on **15 August 1748 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. Therefore it
is my belief there was an error that Joseph was her father and it reality
it was Manuel, the first husband of Gertrudis Chávez Fragoso who was a
cousin of Joseph.

Armando,

You make a good point. This requires more investigation. I'll let you know
if I find any clues. What I do know is that Maria Gertrudis de Chabes did
marry two cousins, Manuel Gonzalez Bermejo (first husband) and Joseph
Gonzales Bermejo (second husband).

Armando,

I've done a little more research and in the dispensa for the marriage of
Gertrudis de Chabes Joseph Gonzales Bermejo you will see on the first page
that Maria Gertrudis had two children from her first marriage with Manuel
Gonzales:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18410-36169-93?cc=1874591&wc…

I found the babtismal records for both of these sons in San Felipe,
Guanajuato. The first for Franco. Gil Gonzales babtised on September 10 ,
1735 whose padrinos are listed as Alejandro Chabes and Gertrudis Rivas:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-20584-11073-69?cc=1860831…

And the second for Ramon Antto.Gonzales Chabes babtised September 15, 1736
whose padrinos are listed as Antto. Chabes and Paula Ribas:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-20584-10879-85?cc=1860831…

So I now believe that Maria Magdalena Gonzales Bermejo is not the daughter
of Gertrudis de Chabes first marriage with Manuel Gonzales Bermejo.

As you will see in the dispensa above, I believe it mentions that Gertrudis
de Chabes adopted two girls our of her good will due to their mother dying
and their father being too old to care for them. Take a look at the
dispensa and let me know if you have a different understanding. One of the
adopted girls may be Maria Magdalena Gonzales Bermejo.

Let me know what you think.

Juan

Comentario

Juan and Abram,

I have finally read the dispensa. It has the following info:

Juan Manuel González Bermejo was buried more than seven years and was
buried in San Felipe, Guanajuato. This would have been in 1741 or 1740.

Joseph González Bermejo admits to having had an illicit relationship with
María Gertrudis de Chávez for seven years and fathering two children with
her.

María Gertrudis de Chávez is stated to be huerfana de madre and even though
her dad is still alive he is so old he cannot work and because of this she
lives with one of her sons; and she is a woman of more than thirty-three
years of age and because of her poverty and family there would not be
anyone of her equal that would want to marry her.

There are two impediments. One for segundo con cuarto grado de
consanguinidad between Joseph González Bermejo and María Gertrudis de
Chávez and a tercero grado de afinidad because Juan Manuel González Bermejo
and Joseph González Bermejo were second cousins.

Because of this info and other records we can now assume that Magdalena was
born out of wedlock, between 1741 and 1 and was the daughter of Jospeh
González Bermejo as her marriage record had stated.

María Gertrudis de Chávez Fragoso was baptized 16 April 1715 in
Aguascalientes to Alejandro de Chávez Fragoso and Paula de Rivas Lozano

Dear Roxanne:
I did not see the marriage listed, but I might have missed it. It is batched on the familysearch.org site. Here is the marriage of Jacinta Placencia and Ramon Avelar:

Feb 3 1864 San Miguel El Alto
LDS batch M603303
Film # 0279453
Marriages 1852-1870

You may want to order the film as they often have both sets of parents listed, where they were from, whether they were alive or not at the time of the wedding and sometimes occupations.

I have worked a lot with these records and Placencia is sometimes spelling Plasencia, Placensia, etc. "C's" and S's" are often interchangeable.

Dear Roxanne:
It looks as if Daniel has helped you beyond repair. I had not seen his post and was just looking up the same information. I found Guadalupe and Anastacio on familysearch also. Just wanted to let you know that the Florentino Placencia Gutierres 1828 baptism, where one of my Ledesma's was a sponsor, had the following information, so I do not think it is linked to yours yet, but if you ever need this one, let me know and I will scan it:

Parents of Florentino:
Eleuterio Placencia and Mataria Gutierres
Paternos: Martin Placencia and Juana Baldivia
Maternos: Pedro Gutierres and Maria Morillo (sp?)
Padrinos: Crisanto Alvardo and Dolores Ledsma
Rancho Moya

Comentario

Dear Roxanne:
I started to recognize the names right away. Sadly do not have any of the records, but I can tell you the Gutierres family married into my Ledesma family. One son of Juana Maria Ledesma Cervantes married to Luis Gutierres born in 1830, his name Jose De La Asuncion, and he was born Rancho de Ocotes. A little earlier date than you are needing.

I can help in your search a bit. You may try looking for alternative spellings. I have some Avalos family member with the spelling Abalos and Pacencia is likely Placensia or Placencia. Vasquez can often be found as Vasques. I had a Ledesma sponsor to a Florentino Placencia Gutierres b. 10/15/1828 Rancho Moya. I have to look to see if I have the record and who Florentino's parent's were. Sometimes I just jotted down the information rather than copying the record who my people were just sponsor's of other's baptisms.

If you find other parts of the family, check back with me and I might be able to help with some records.

Hi Roxanne! Well Ocotes is a very old ranch in San Miguel. San Miguel el Alto is part of the

Los Altos family region. Gutierrez is a very old Spanish colonial last name around these

parts. May include Gutierrez de HErmosillo, Gutierrez de Laris, Gutierrez de Mendoza etc.

I found a son of Cipriano and Andrea, the marriage of Cipriano 9If you dont have alread)

I also dont think the last name was Avelar, never heard of that name in Los Altos. I found

several children too. (The records are below that I found, maybe you have them) Well your

next step is to order the marriage film for Ramon Avalos and Jacinta Plascencia. I think getting

out of the 1800s is the hardest part, bear in mind once you do (and you should be able to)

you are going to learn SO MUCH! I know I have, Im still well rounded from 1500s to 1700s.

Be careful, Altenos do not tend to stay around, they kept moving all around the region which

socially extends into Jalisco, Zacatecas, aguascalientes, Guanjuato, Michoacan, and San Luis Potosi

but politically its just Jalisco. Well I hope Ive helped you in a way. You can always email

me, Ive studided Los Altos genealogy for 5 years now. -Daniel Camino

I used Google translate and fixed it a little (OK, A LOT):

Don Lorenzo Cervantes-Villaseñor and Cardenas was the son of Joseph Cervantes y de Alba and Doña Josefa de Cardenas (who married on April 18, 1668 in Jalostotitlán), Jose Cervantes was the son of Francisco Cervantes Villaseñor (who got married on October 15, 1614 in Lagos, to Doña Maria de Alba Retamosa, daughter of Alonso de Alva and Doña Leonor de Retamosa, and was the maternal granddaughter of Alderman Don Alonso Macias Valdez and Doña Maria Vazquez de Retamosa). Thanks to this marriage record we known that Francisco Cervantes, was the son of Don Pedro de Villaseñor, but thanks to Don Mariano Gonzalez Leal who kindly provided me a copy of the book titled "Grandchildren of Don Juan", we know that Don Pedro Villasenor y Cervantes (from Guango, Michoacán) and Doña Catalina Corona (from Extremadura, Spain). Don Juan de Villaseñor y Orozco-Tovar, a native of the town of Velez, Spain, and Catalina Cervantes Saavedra y de Andrada, a native of Cerro Burguillos in Extremadura, Spain were the paternal grandparents of Don Pedro, the Conqueror of Michoacan and the Mixteca region.

Hi Chris, Does all your family live in the valley? We decend from Felicidad Villarreal. She married Pedro Esparza. They settled the San Pedro Carricitos land grant about 1824. Felicidad had a brother Placido that married into the Trevino family ( Petra T.) Any connections here?

One of our members married Fernando Perez. THis line of Perez was in the bakery business.
Also have in our tree Chapa, Cavazos, Solis, Garcia, Pineda, Trevino and so many more.

I am sure we connect. Please send us your family data from way back so we can try to make these connections. Most of us use Family Tree Maker....and we will give you plenty of notice when the genealogy group meets again..... Phyls

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Breakthrough on my Pineda/Pinedo research

For years, I couldn't find much information about my Pineda/o line. My grandfather's father died when he was young and he did not know much about his father (Nicanor Pinedo) except that he was from Tlaltenango, Zac. For years, I've been stuck -- until today!

Here's what I found today -- and if anyone else has these individuals in their family tree, please let me know! The records I'm finding are from Monte Escobedo and Mesquital del Oro, Zac.

Generation No. 1
Bartolo Pinedo m. Maria Gonzales
Place/date: unknown
Son: Gregorio Pinedo

Generation No. 2
Gregorio Pinedo m. Agustina de Ulloa, daughter of Crisanto Ulloa and Juana Sanchez (or Contreras)
Place/date: Monte Escobedo, Zac, 28 April 1834
Son: Pedro Pinedo

Generation No. 3
Pedro Pinedo m. (1) Pioquinta Cardoza, daughter of Santiago Cardoza and Venita Elias. She died in Mesquita del Oro, Zac (March 1886)
Marriage place/date: unknown
Son: Nicanor Pinedo (my great-grandfather)

Pedro Pinedo m. (2) Rita Ruvalcaba, daughter of Marco Ruvalcaba and ______ Orozco.
Marriage place/date: Mesquita del Oro, Zac, 17 Sep 1886
Note: the informacion matrimonial states that Pedro Pinedo's first wife was Pioquinta Cardoza, and that she died in March 1886. This record also states that Pedro Pinedo was originally from Zacatecas, I believe.

Generation No. 4
Nicanor Pinedo m. (1) Antonia Minjares, daughter of Felipe Minjares and Natividad Godoy.
Marriage place/date: Tlaltenango, Zac, 21 Feb 1903
They had no children, so far as I know.

Nicanor Pinedo m. (2) Emilia Gonzalez, daughter of Juan Gonzalez and Dolores Arteaga
Marriage place/date: Tlaltenango, Zac, 4 June 1914
Children: Jesus Maria Pineda (my grandfather) and Emilia Pineda

I hope this may be enough information to make some further connections with others on this listserve!

Chris Pineda

hacer.

Abram,

It seems you did not read the whole thread or understand all of it. The
last name of the mother of María Pérez de Nava, the wife of Cristóbal de
Villalobos, was Madalena or Magdalena the father's first name is Cristóbal.
Therefore we know the father's name is Cristóbal Pérez. In the marriage
for Cristóbal Pérez and María Magdalena the parents of Crisóbal Pérez were
Hernan de Perez and and María Lopez. Fernando Peres and Maria Linares are
names that came up due to an incorrect transcription. I wrote a correction
of those names it in that thread. I feel subjects already written about
should be followed in the original thread which is at
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/20010 It is easier to follow up and
not have to read multiple threads for info on an identical subject.

Cristóbal Pérez was the father in law of Cristóbal de Villalobos in case
that was also confusing you.

Armando,

My fault i didn't quite understand the thread but now i do thanks for clarfying it.Interesting so the name Magdalena can be a first name and a last name.So in the marriage record it only mentioned the parents of Cristobal Perez and not Marias Magdalena parents?.Yea that did sort of confused me becuase i have Cristobal De Villalobos parents as Matia De Villalobos and Bernandina Sanclares.

Hello Stephanie,

I don't know who the parents of Nicolás Ramírez or Polonia de Torres were,
but have some other information about this family that may be of interest to
you. Nicolás Ramírez was the owner of "Hacienda de las Peñuelas" and one of
the founders of Aguascalientes in 1575. His name is in founder's square in
the historical district of Aguascalientes. Both Nicolás and Polonia were
originally from Santa María de los Lagos, Jalisco, but lived in
Aguascalientes.

Hi Bill, good to hear from you :)

Thanks for the info on Nicolas because it confirms what I have. Do you think there are any papers from the Hacienda de las Peñuelas which would list his wife and her parents or thier marriage? Any leads for that would be great. Also,as I told, John Gonzalez, I have looked in the Chancerry de Vallodolid with not luck.

thanks again for your time,

Stephanie,

In his book "Aguascalientes y su región de influencia hasta 1810 - Sociedad y Política" historian José Antonio Gutiérrez Gutiérrez mentions that before the founding of Aguascalientes in 1575, Nicolás Ramírez, Cristobal de Mata, Francisco Gómez and Menzo López had been granted some land, which I suppose is where "Hacienda de las Peñuelas" is located. The earliest church records of Aguascalientes start in the early 1600s, so none of the baptismal records of the children of Nicolás Ramírez and Polonia de Torres are in the books. We know they had at least nine children, all born in Aguascalientes. Some of them used the surname Tavera, so there is one clue about their grandparents' surname. As you probably know, using the surname of a grandparent was not uncommon in those days. There are marriage records from Aguascalientes where there is information about some of their children. For example the marriage of their daughter María de Tavera to Phelipe Macías Valadez on 01 July 1618 reads as follows:

"El 1 de julio de 1618 contrajo matrimonio Phelipe Macías Valadés, hijo de Alonso Macías Valadés y de María de Retamosa, con María de Tavera, hija de Nicolás Ramírez y de Polonia de Torres, vecinos de Aguascalientes. Testigos Alonso Macías y Francisco Macías. Veláronse el 3 de octubre de 1618. Fueron padrinos María de Torres y Antonio Tavera, hermanos de la pretensa."

Some of the children were married at the private chapel in Las Peñuelas, like Mariana de Tavera who married Gaspar Macías Valadez on 06 March 1622. Their marriage record reads as follows:

"El 6 de marzo de 1612, en la Estancia de las Peñuelas de Nicolás Ramírez, contrajeron matrimonio Gaspar Macías y Mariana de Torres, siendo testigos Alonso Macías, y los mellizos y Nicolás Ramírez."

Another daughter, Agueda de Torres y Tavera, married Hernando de Valdivia at the same chapel on 26 Jan 1622. Hernando was born at Villa de Serena, Extremadura, Reynos de Castilla.

I suppose the land grants are archived at the "Archivo de Tierras y Aguas" which is now part of the "Archivo Histórico de Jalisco". Not to discourage you, but I have been through hundreds of documents from Tierras y Aguas and have never seen anything related to Nicolás Ramírez or Polonia de Torres.

I visited the ex-Hacienda de las Peñuelas in 2008, which is less than one mile from the airport. Interesting place. I was lucky to be there while a crew was filming a movie and was allowed to go in. I guess the guard thought I was a member of the crew. :-) Unfortunately, there are no documents stored there.

Hi Bill and Stephanie in my records I have Maria the one who married Felipe de Macias y Valades, as

Maria Ramirez de Tavera y Velasco o Maria Tavera y Velasco? How does the Velasco play in this? I have a suspicion

one of her paternal grandmother was Velasco, since she didnt use Torre, her mothers surname, while her other sisiters took

on there mothers surname? Tavera can also be Portuguese Tavira. But Castilianised would be Tavera, Tavira is a portuguese town near Sevilla. I think we also have to look at how the surnames were distributed in this family.

Usually Torres and de la Torre are the same

Apolonia Torres

Francisca Torres

Antonio Ramirez de Tavera

Maria Ramirez de Tavera or Maria Tavera y Velasco

Paula Torres

nicolas Ramirez de Tavera

Agueda Torres.

Out of all the girls Maria took her paternal name. Usually for importance or after a grandmother. We need to keep researching, but what since Antonio took Ramirez, Nicolas' parents could be a Antonio Ramirez de Tavera and Maria de Velasco? Just a thought.

Also Nicolas and Apolonias Grandchildren took on various surnames. La Audencia de Guadalajara has to have some record on them.

Hey Ronnie,

The marriage record of Phelipe Macías Valadez and María de Tavera clearly
states that the parents of Phelipe were Alonso Macías Valadez and María de
Retamosa. I cannot access the record online because the Family Search Pilot
site is down for maintenance, but here is what I extracted from microfilm
about this couple (LDS Film 0299421 Aguascalientes Marriages 1601-1662) :

"El 1 de julio de 1618 contrajo matrimonio Phelipe Macías Valadés, hijo de
Alonso Macías Valadés y de María de Retamosa, con María de Tavera, hija de
Nicolás Ramírez y de Polonia de Torres, vecinos de Aguascalientes. Testigos
Alonso Macías y Francisco Macías. Veláronse el 3 de octubre de 1618.
Fueron padrinos María de Torres y Antonio Tavera, hermanos de la pretensa."

The submitter, a member of the LDS Church whose name does not appear in the
IGI record (F867345 Sheet 024), changed the parent's names to Nicolás Macías
Valadez and Leonor de Retamosa, giving no indication of what source or
reason he used for changing the names. I have not found any other records
to verify this, but perhaps someone in the group has checked the early
records from Lagos and has an answer. Was Alonso Macías Valadez a brother
of Nicolás Macías Valadez, and María de Retamosa a sister of Leonor de
Retamosa, i.e. another case of two brothers married to two sisters? Or did
the person who recorded the marriage (Priest) in the books made a mistake?

Hi Bill and Ronnie, I have the same as Bill, Felipe is clearly son of Alonso and Maria. I
think the person did not know two Alonso existed in this family Alonso I "el tio" and Alonso II el sobrino. The last one marrying Maria de Velasco, I have her name like that but clearly used Ramirez de Tavera or just Tavera. I think the testigos were Alonso' cousins, Alonso and Francisco.

Im confused, Maria de Torres and Maria Tavera are different? Im sure the person was confused about the two Alonso being the same one. Ill keep looking, I do have a source, Alonso and Nicolas were brothers. -Daniel Camino

The marriage record of Phelipe Macías Valadez and María de Tavera reads

I believe it refers to Mariana de Torres and Antonio Tavera, younger brother

Alonso Macías and Francisco Macías, both Phelipe's brothers.

I have looked at the Historia de Teocaltiche but there is no specefic list of the families who found it. I then looked at the Chancerry de Vallodolid to see if there is a list of families under the founder Hernando Martel and still nothing. This is why I looked in Colima Mexico and found the Polonia Gamboa married to Juan de La torre. If I have missed something that you know of in the resources above, please let me know. Also , do you have any contact info for the Cronista of Lagos de Moreon or Teocaltiche? Hope your research is going well.

Thanks!

Hi Steph:

The idea is that if you are researching a family from Lagos and come to a
brick wall, try researching the same family name, but in Teocaltiche. I
don't know if there is a list of the families, who left to settle in Lagos,
but you could look for the earliest church records for Lagos.

Below you mentioned that : "I have looked at the history of Teocaltiche but
there is no specific list of the families who found it"

You are not looking for the families who founded Teocaltiche, you want the
families FROM Teocaltiche who founded Lagos.

I found a website long time ago about the history of Nueva Galicia, I think it was a university or something and there was a section about the foundation of Lagos and the many families that arrived in the late 1500s from teocaltiche. Ill try to look for it, -Daniel

Alonso Macias Valadez and Maria Retamosa

Hola Every one, I was wondering if Alonso Macias Valadez and Maria de Retamosa the same as Nicolas Macias Valadez and Leonor Retamosa who could be the parents of Pedro ,Alonso,Gaspar,Felipe,Mateo

Ronnie:

This is what Mariano Gonzalez Leal said in "Retoños de España ...". According to his hypothesis Alonso / Nicolas and Leonor / Maria are the same people mentioned with indistinct names on "Dispensas" that other researchers in the past consulted (Jaime Holcombe, Davila Garibi). However, in the same chapter (Valadez Macias) there are at least two or three errors.

Juan de Onate expedition

What microfilms and other records do I need to research to find more information about the families that traveled to New Mexico from Zacatecas around 1598?

Comentario

Hi Stanley:

The Oñate expedition sounds familiar to me because many of my ancestors took part or were related to it.

Firstly, Juan de Oñate is my far uncle because his father Cristóbal de Oñate was the brother of my ancestor María Pérez de Oñate who was married to Rodrigo Díaz de Zaldívar. Also Juan de Oñate's mother is my ancestor too but I descend from her first marriage to Ruy Díaz de Mendoza y Arellano del Río of a very illustrious family, then she married to Cristóbal de Oñate.

Another of my ancestors, Juan Guerra de Ressa, although he didn't took part in the expediton he was the main economic financier of it.

Two other ancestors where actively in the expediton, their names where Alonso de Sosa Albornoz and Vicente de Zaldívar. Also an uncle, Juan de Velasco y Zúñiga son of my ancestors Alonso de Velasco and Juana Bernal de Zúñiga y Guzmán was an important character in that journey.

The site that Paul gave to you is perfect. It's very well detailed, I think it will help you a lot. Here's the exact link to the Oñate expedition: http://garyfelix.tripod.com/~GaryFelix/index5E.htm

Good Afternoon, Stanley,

My wife is a direct descendent of Bartoleme Romero, who was one of the men of the 1598 Onate party. He was from Corral de Almaguer, a small town near Toledo, Spain.

Have you gone to Gary Felix's web site? It is garyfelix.tripod.com. You will find there a list of the men who accompanied Onate

Best wishes on your research.

Hi Josie --

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I would be very interested in any upcoming events.

I don't have roots in Brownsville or Matamoros; my wife's family does though (Cisneros, Villarreal, Longoria families). However, I am a descendant of various founding families from Mier, Tamaulipas through my ggg grandparents, Tomas Ramirez and Concepcion, who moved from Mier to Laredo, TX in the 1890s. These families had land grants in South Texas dating from the 1760s, although at least my ancestors lost or sold their portion in the 1890s for reasons that aren't yet clear.

Please keep me posted on any upcoming events!

This is a link to an excellent website about the history of the Spanish/Mexican Land Grants in Texas.. It contains a list of them, and also the story of what happened to them, how they were lost to the American invaders. http://infinito9.com/landgrants/history.html

I don't know anything about Coahuila but it appears that the Church records for Coahuila have not been digitized yet. The only records available on-line for Coahuila are the civil records that begin in 1869.

According to Wikipedia Matamoros wasn't even a villa until 1864 so if the
record you are looking exists it would have been recorded in a church
somewhere other than Matamoros. That is why there are no records for
Matamoros in the years you are looking for.
