Traditional Foods in Mexico origin from Jewish?

In our village of Huejuquilla during Holy Week, we have "La Judea" festivities. During this week, we eat, "Capirotada" also we eat Pan Semanita. But I was looking at this article I just saw:

Today I had albóndigas for dinner (in the afternoon, Mexican style) and they are what in English people call meatballs. According to the Spanish Royal Academy Dictionary, the name in Spanish is derived from Arabic (like other Spanish words that begin with Al-) and they define them as "balls of finely minced meat or fish, mixed with pieces of bread, eggs and spices; eaten cooked or fried".
Like many kinds of food, music, dances, styles of painting, etc., many different groups may claim them as their own.

[κάρυον] ποντικόν '[nuez] póntica' ).

My grandmother, who was from Jerez, used to make Capirotada when I was a
little girl. I didn't like it or champurado or atole and, worse for me,
camote. I think I could eat capirotada now. :)

According to Tony Hillerman in his book, New Mexico, Rio Grande and other essays, 1993:

Truchas is a double line of adobe houses lining a windy cliffedge under the Truchas Peaks, and Las Trampas is a hollow square inthe narrow valley of Rito las Trampas. They were there when George Washington was born. Truchas was founded by two families, and Trampas by a man named Juan De Arguello. Arguello was seventy-seven years old and a battle-scarred veteran of a long life of frontier wars when he led his sons-in-law and their families from Santa Fe to establish this lonely and dangerous new outpost. The chronicles report that when he was ninety-nine he walked over the mountains to the Penasco Vally to ask donations for the village chapel. He died at 117. With the U.S.occupation the village lost all its communal grazing lands. But Las Trampas lives on, terribly poor, and terribly proud of its church which is a lovely and priceless example of Spanish-Colonial architecture.

I haven't found his baptism or birth record. He died 19 Dec 1789 in Las Trampas and was buried the next day.

Sergio, thank you so much for that information, especially the image number; I was able to go directly to the record.

As an aside, the post of mine to which Sergio replied was probably only my fourth or fifth query to this list; to have been rewarded so quickly is testimony to the collaborative nature of the many wonderful people on the list. I read most of the posts, and I hope I can pay Sergio's kindness forward soon with information from my own research.

Once again, a heartfelt "Thank you".

What email would you like me to use to email you the marriage document dated

& Anna Alvares-Tostado. Her parents were Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo &
Juana de Anda Altamirano. This couple is also mentioned in Retonos, Tomo

Ran across your old post dated 5/17/2010. I noticed you list Francisco Dionicio Cuates Bugarin Gonzalez as your 6th Ggrandfather. He was related to me as well being my 4th Grandfather. By this time although I have no way of knowing, you may have learned the reference to "Cuates' in the document (which I observed as well) means he was a fraternal twin. His brother Jose Dionicio Francisco is the other twin.

I apologize if this is old news to you.

Hello Antonio...Welcome to the group.

I have two lines of Bugarin. The first record
that I have is; as marriage record in Mexico, D.F.
in 1676 then, the family appears in Tlaltenango on
a marriage record in 1709.

I have searched my data base for the names you
indicated, and.. nada...Perhaps, if you go back a
generation or two, we may find a connection.

Also, there are at least two members in the group
that have Bugarin lines, which may be listed in
the files section
Keep searching~~~

It could mean born in or national origin. For some reason, I think
Flamenco COULD mean Fleming, as in, he's Flemish originally from
Dunkirk. But I might be wrong. Marge:)

Hello Omar,
I've offered up this Spanish website to the group before because I've found it helpful, but I've never received any feedback positive or otherwise.  Try ascagen.es go to the upper right archivos/bases de datos.  There there's a Transmeranos de Flandes/Los Flamencos de Transmiera section that might prove helpful.  I don't know enough about the history of Spain and what the Flanders connection is, but that's what they refer to here, when they use "Flamenco".  It's confusing, because more specifically, there's a Cantabria connection which includes Santander and has been a great resource researching my family.  Does this make me "Flamenco"?  I don't know.  I hope you find the site interesting at the very least.    Alice

Hi Omar

Flamenco de Nasión (should be -nación) simply means -flamenco from birth, born
flamenco.

There were many Flemish immigrants to Colonial Mexico, I always see Flandes?
Usually once their descendants integrated fully they would automatically assume
the designation of espanol. European=espanol regardless what nation you came
from, as long as you integrated and "castilianized",

Hi, Omar, most of the definitions I find for "flamenco" refers to Flemish (from Flanders). Gypsy is defined as "gitano", but the dance that the gypsies did was called flamenco also ("dancing for the Flemish").

I have a Flemish ancestor who lived in Mexico City in 1617. His name was Juan Fresqui (Flandes) and he signed his name "Frishz". The name became Fresco, Fresqui, Fresquis, and my most recent ancestors with that name wrote it as Fresquez. Juan Fresqui was a mining engineer from Flanders, and he went to New Mexico in 1625 and settled and married there in Santa Fe.

What was the name of your Flemish ancestor?

King Charles of Carlos the V was Flemish born in the Flemish city of Ghent in
1500 and although he was King of Spain during the Spanish conquest of the
America's, he spoke very little spanish. His mother was Castillian and his
father was Maximilian I.

I have read all sorts of books and documents on Carlos V, this is true in the beginning he
did not speak much Spanish. But he soon grew to love his country Spain, so much he would
give up his german posessions and keep his spanish posessions. He gave up his german
posessions to his brother Ferdinand who became the next German Rman Emperor. Interesting enough
Felipe I his father is recognized as the first modern Spanish king, even though he was German
he was crowned Felipe I de Espana with his wife Juana I. Since she was "la loca" and locked away
her husband ruled for some time in the Castilla posesions. While Carlos Grandfather Fernando
II el catolio ruled Aragon and her posessions until his death, where he passed everything to Carlos.
Carlos V or I is the monarch who united his Spain into a country instead of many small kingdoms.

I belong to a Latino cooking club - we all have ancestors from different
Hispanic countries. When it was my turn, I made tostadas (great for both
vegetarian and meat eaters) and a huge nopale salad -- to my delight and
surprise, it was all gone!

My recipe
2 bottles of Dona Maria Nopales (already cleaned and cooked)
rinse and take out peppers/onions
Finely diced onions (1 small one or to taste)
Finely diced tomatoes (about three)
Queso ranchero - 2-3 packages (the smaller ones) broken up in small pieces
cilantro - 1 bunch
1 or 2 jalapenos - diced - on the side(not everyone likes chiles - it's
for those that like it and they simply can add to taste)
Gently toss together - serve with tostadas

I found a fantastic dish very common in Morelia Michoacan, it is quite
refreshing! and delicius!

GASPACHO MICHOACANO

Prep time: About 30 minutes

Makes: 4 servings

1/3 cup lime juice

2/3 cup orange juice

2 cups 1/4- to 1/2-inch diced pineapple

2 cups 1/4- to 1/2-inch diced jicama

2 cups 1/4- to 1/2-inch diced mango

Hot sauce

Chili powder

1/4 cup crumbled cotija or feta cheese

1. Mix lime and orange juices.

2. In each of 4 tall glasses (12- to 14-oz. size), make a layer of 1/4 cup
pineapple. Add 1/4 cup jicama and top with 1/4 cup mango.

3. In a bowl, combine the remaining pineapple, jicama, and mango, and spoon
the mixture equally into each glass. Pour the lime-orange mixture equally
into each glass.

4. Top each serving with hot sauce and chili powder to taste, and sprinkle
with 1 tablespoon cheese.

Here is one recipe for Nopal Salad (Ensalada de Nopalitos) from the website for American ex-pats living in Mexico.

http://www.mexconnect.com/articles/2188-nopal-salad-ensalada-de-nopalit…

Also, I found this one in the book "Frida's Fiestas: Recipes and Reminiscences of Life with Frida Kahlo" by Guadalupe Rivera and Marie-Pierre Colle, a book with fabulous color photos of Frida's home in Mexico City:

NOPALES SALAD

16 medium nopales, needles removed, cut in strips, and rinsed under running water
4 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 large onion, chopped
3 serrano or jalapeno chiles, chopped
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons vinegar
Salt

Cook the nopales in plenty of water to remove the slippery coating [they can be slimy like okra]
When tender, rinse in cold water.
Soak a dishtowel in cold water and wrap it around the nopales
Squeeze tightly and let stand 20 minutes so that any remaining slippery substance
can drain through
Combine the tomatoes, onion, chiles, cilantro, oil, and vinegar in a salad bowl
Season with salt to taste
Stir in the nopales and mix well.
Serve cold.

I recall my mother used to cook nopales plain, and serve them cut up as a side dish. They tasted sort of like green beans, and I liked them better than the okra she used to cook because the okra was very slimy.

There will be 8 adults (4 of them non-latino, but three of them have been family members for several years), and 6 grandchildren under the age of 12. The tamales were a request. The idea of a nopal salad is intriguing - I haven't had nopales in decades, and no one else among those attending Easter dinner has ever had them. Can anyone suggest a good recipe for the salad? I like to offer sufficient variety, so that everyone will find something to eat, which is why I asked for some ideas for side dishes. There will be a fresh fruit platter. Thanks again.

I like to add crumbled queso fresco and a little bit of dried oregano. Yummy, anyway you make Ensalada de Nopales, it's sooo good. You opened up my appetite, think I'll make some today.

Thanks,

    Serve cold.

I recall my mother used to cook nopales plain, and serve them cut up as a side dish.  They tasted sort of like green beans, and I liked them better than the okra she used to cook because the okra was very slimy.

Alicia,

I have also been hungry for my Mother's capirotada, made with toast, simple syrup, cheese and raisins. No onions or nuts like other people use.

My husband makes his capirotada for Ash Wednesday every year, it's the best of the lenten meals, followed by Sopa de Lentejas con zanahoria y espinacas. Lentil Soup with Carrots and spinach. That's dried shrimp dumplings with nopales in a mole sauce and sopa de habas, that's a fava bean soup, thick like pea soup.

We don't have a traditional Mexican Easter meal, we have the usual North American ham or lamb with the usual gringo side dishes, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, wild rice salad etc. etc.

Oh, Alicia, you still have your Mom? Lucky you. Her meals sound so yummy.

As for our Easter dinner, when I lived in the same town (San Jose) as my sister, I did have lamb, etc, very American. Now we have all scattered, and sister lives in Vegas, and Mom is gone. So, we two just go to the clubhouse here in our development on Easter where they have a fabulous buffet with ham, prime rib, turkey (no lamb) plus all kinds of salads, sides, and breakfast items too, and desserts.

Have a Happy Easter,

Emilie

Peal off the prickle with a sharp knife, cut the nopal in small
rectangles, boil in water with onion and salt until they fill tender, rinse
with cold water until the water comes out clean.

Mix it with chopped tomatos, coriander, onion, avocado and as much
jalapeño as you want (you may skip the chile if you dont like it hot),
add a few drops of olive oil.

Thats all!, you can add some panela cheese cubes.

I have a problem with the marriage date of Jose Juachin Gutierrez de Laris with Juana Gallo January 30, 1782

parents: Antonio Gutierres De Laris,? Cathalina Ramires
spouse: Juana Gertrudis Peres Gallo

groom's name: Jose Juachin Gutierres De Laris
bride's name: Juana Gertrudis Peres Gallo
marriage date: 30 Jan 1782
marriage place: Nuestra Senora De La Asuncion, Jalostotitlan, Jalisco, Mexico
groom's father's name: Anttonio Gutierres De Laris
groom's mother's name: Cathalina Ramires
bride's father's name: Salbador Gallo
bride's mother's name: Gertrudis Masias Balades

Family search has the date on the search and I cannot find it once I look at the Marriage on Browse. Does anyone have this research.
This info may conflict with Retonos de Espana.

I can confirm the marriage from the marriage of their son Jose Ignacio Gutierrez with Antonia Martin del Campo February 13, 1809.in San Juan de los Lagoss.

Miggy,

Adrián Márquez Padilla had provided the image number where the marriage is
found before your last response. In hundreds and maybe even a thousand
records I have searched for based on record that shows up on search and
provides a film number I have always found the record in that same film.
There has never been a mistake in that regard. What has to be done at times
is search the whole volume page by page because the record can be out of
order. I've tried to point this out in multiple posts. I had given you the
link to the volume to provoke you into searching it again because it there
and Adrián found it for you.

Here is what Adrián Márquez Padilla said. Let me know if you need a
tranlation.

Abram,

They are all there, the problem you're having is that it looks different from what it used to be. They made some changes and the page looks different. Slow down and take the time to look carefully. Here's the link.  https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A//api.famil…

Abram and Alicia,

It has nothing to do with site changes or with Abram taking his time. It
has to do with experience and knowledge of how they started putting the
images online with Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and a few others in one
collection then adding most of the rest of Mexico in separate areas.

The original images are under Mexico, Catholic Church Records found at -
https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.f…

Then they started to create a separate location based on state and type of
record Church for one and Civil for the other. These and the previous one
mentioned are both found under the Mexico found at -
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&region=MEXICO

They should have moved the Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, etc collections so
they could be found where the Jalisco, Michoacán, and Guanajuato images are
located.

I see, but in my opinion it was a lot better how it was before.Another thing i need help on im searching for a individual named Barbara Delgadillo Gil in family search it said that she was baptized on 15 Nov 1711 so i look up the record image which is on Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico. After that i click on one of the dates Bautismos 1639-1711 and nothing it actually goes up to May of 1711.Then i click to another date Bautismos 1708-1722 and nothing it stop like around July 1711 and after that it skips 4 whole years? Here is the link down below if anyone wants to help

I don't like the way it was before or the way it is now. It could have been
done without scroll bars, vertical or horizontal. However, neither format
had anything with you not being able to find the Jalisco images.

As far as the baptismal record you are looking for it is in film number
634015. It will definitely be in that film, without a doubt. You will have
to jump around to find it.

Abram,

We need to learn to use what's available. In my opinion just having it available on line is wonderful.

Before December of 2010 in order to look at films, you had to go to your local family history center and order your film. You paid a fee for each roll of film and then you waited 5-6 weeks for your film to come to your local family history center from Salt Lake. You would go to your local FHC and view the film on microfilm readers. When you found a record you wanted, you had to pay a fee for every copy. I remember paying up to 25 cents per photocopy. Depending on your local FHC they were open 2 to 3 days a week and if the hours didn't work for you, tough. The film could only be viewed at the one local FHC, you couldn't take it to a different one that had better research hours and there were times when you'd order some film and it sat for the 3-4 weeks alloted time and pouf, that time passed and maybe you'd had time to view it once or twice. If you wanted it to remain longer at your FHC, you had to pay another fee to extend it for another 4 weeks.

So you see it's available on-line, 24/7, you just have to be patient, do the work, seek all options and be smart about searching the archives.

Thank you Adrian and Armando. I followed your directions.. I lost my lead on page 90 with the date discussed, and I assumed there were lost pages out of order and when I first read your instruction I assumed I was lead to the general film.

You are great.

Hope I can return the Favor.

It seems that retoños may have missed this son or transferred the name in tomo 5 page 55 Jose Santiago born Dec 13, 1758 married to Juana Gertrudis Perez Gallo on January 30, 1782; As we just confirmed the name was Jose Juachin married to Juana Gertrudis Perez Gallo the same day .

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19052-56474-13?cc=1874591&wc…

Bill,

The following girl seems to be the Juana DIAS DE SANDI you are searching for. She would have been only three months old at her mother Juana LOMELIN's death, (perhaps too young to be included in any documents) and 15 years old at the time of her own marriage to Joseph Alexandro ACOSTA.

From Film #299530, Mex CCRec Ags Ags Sag (inc Hac. Cieneguilla) Bau 1719-1733, Image 10.

Juana, española, baptized 6 Apr 1720, Ags,
hija lexitima de Ju. DIAS DE SANDI y Doña Juana LOMELIN y MENDOZA.
Padrino: el capitan Don Andres TELLO De LOMAS.

Hi Gloria,

Thank you very much for answering my question. Juana de Lomelin y Hurtado
de Mendoza was ill when her daughter was born and probably died of
post-partum complications three months after giving birth to her daughter.
The baptismal record also indicates that Juana was "hija lexitima de Juan
Díaz de Sandi y de Da Juana de Lomelin y Mendoza difunta". The word difunta
was later scratched out by the priest. Here is the sequence of events:

06 Apr 1720 - Juana Díaz de Sandi is baptized in Aguascalientes.

28 Jun 1720 - Her mother Juana de Lomelin y Hurtado de Mendoza, gravely
ill in bed after giving birth to her daughter, authorized her husband Juan
Díaz de Sandi to file her final will and testament on her behalf. No
mention of her newborn is made in her deposition, made in presence of the
scribe and witnesses.

05 Jul 1720 - Juana de Lomelín y Hurtado de Mendoza dies and is buried in
Aguascalientes.

18 Oct 1720 - Juan Díaz de Sandi files his wife's testament on her behalf.
No mention of their daughter Juana, who was probably not expected to live.

Thank again for your help, Gloria.

All the best,

BILL FIGUEROA

Abram,
Indeed Araujo it is not a common name, that's why I labeled it instead as "not strange". I have met people with that surname. By the way, the padrinos not were always a married couple. Sometimes they were brother and sister, or mother and son, or completely unrelated to each other. I've seen examples of each of those cases (in the ancient records as well as in my own modern family).
Best regards,

Hi Abram,
Araujo is not a strange surname here in Mexico.
I don't think one can say for sure Cristobal Delgadillos' parents are Juan Delgadillo and Antonia de Araugo. Juan may be Cristobal's father, uncle, brother or cousin.

It depends on the area, time frame, resources and family traditions among other variables. In los altos de Jalisco there were many that could read and write because of a combination of these variables. Not everyone could but the opportunity to learn was often present in general. A great great uncle of mine Juan Franco would travel from rancho to rancho and preach the benefits of education and he was an exceptional teacher. My uncles Doctor Rito Romo Franco and Judge Melqiuades Perez franco began their education through his efforts. Many other people that lived in the outlying area around Valle de Gpe could read and write because of Juan Franco and others like him.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] education in Mexico

I'm working on marriage information records for Jerez, Zacatecas 1899 and am finding that 99% of the records say they can not read or write so the notary is signing the documents for them. I know Jerez was small but is this pretty standard for the education of people during those years? Just wondering what others are finding in their research for Mexico during these years.

Thank you for bringing education up. Well when I browsed the archives for our village of Huejuquilla, Jalisco, Mexico, never say any comments about not being able to read or write, but the logs were recorded by the Friars or whoever was logging the books over confirmations, baptisms and such.

But I wonder if there were any schools in the Agricultural areas back during the colonial times? Are there any records of schools that existed?

It would be interesting to see what kind of education our ancestors had.

But I have read some information that the Conde of Hacienda San Mateo of Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico by the name of Fernando De La Campa y Cos (1676 - 1742) stressed education.

Your success in education or profession sometimes depends on have role models or peers that are generation or more above you that have educational backgrounds that can guide you into the right direction, show you the propiate way to study so you can become sucessful and you can guide the younger generation.

I feel sorry for many people from the agricultural areas that have no role models, no peers that have educational backgrounds that can stress education, be a guide.

I really want to help out in our village of Huejuquilla to try to get everyone to at least graduate from Preparatoria (High School). Show them the correct way to study when they are at a young age, stress how education helps in life knowing the basics of math, reading and writing that helps in life when you have to fill out job applications, paper work, doing simple arithmetic for jobs.

I really feel sorry for the people from the agricultural areas that don't have the same opportunities or influences as people from the cities do.

Hi Linda,

In some of the cases, this wasn't true. I've found records from some of my ancestors where there is the same writing of "por no saber firmar lo hago yo para que conste", when I know that actually some of those ancestors did know how to write or read. For example, my third greatgrandfather Abraham Agraz wrote a whole diary of one of his journeys to Mexico City which now is written in a book published about 30 years ago by my uncle Gabriel. Abraham in some church records appeared as he didn't know to sign but I have the image of his signature in another book about the Agraz family.

I have another case where the record says "no vino a firmar por lo que lo hice yo". For me, this is kind of weird because I suppose the couple should be there at the time when the priest is writing down the wedding information. This is the case of the marriage record of my great great grandparents Julián García de Alba and Isidra Preciado, they knew how to write and read because they said they could in the Mexico's 1930 Census and Isidra was a teacher for a small period of time and also among of their properties, there was a considerable amount of books.

As a result, I think the second situation may be one of the reasons of why the priest instead of saying the couple wasn't there for signing, he wrote down that they didn't know how to write.

In Nochistlan, I found that the españoles for the most part did not know how to read and write, It would say " no firmo por no saber"

Some of the indios in Nochistlan did know how to read and write. In Nochistlan there was a decree from "La Corte de los Reinos de Castilla" that, due to the maltreatment of the españoles towards the indios, the españoles could not live within the confines of the town of Nochistlan, the españoles lived in the rancherias or outlying areas within the municipality of Nochistlan.

The indios in Nochistlan were to be protected by the Catholic Church, thus they had to live within the city. In the book Los Duran de Nochistlan, it defines the plan of the city and identifies who could live within the town, therefore the indios were the ones who received an education. Most of the scribes in the early days were indios, they were ones who were educated.

Abram,

It's been out of print for many years, I don't think you can buy it but maybe you can see it in a library.

A Mexican Easter Dinner

Hola amigos,
I am looking for some good menu ideas/recommendations for Easter dinner.

Tamales and beans are rather heavy fare, so I would suggest keeping the side dishes light, such as Spanish Rice, Caesar salad, chunks of cantaloupe with strawberries, fruit drinks.

Hola!!

I live in México City and we do not have anything special for easter, but I
suggest some tacos of "Barbacoa of lamb" or tamales of barbacoa and Nopales
salad or Nopalitos

I agree with Emile, the tamales are rather heavy, here when we eat tamales
we dont have any additional dishes, we make a lot of different kinds of
tamales (mole, verde, rajas and for sweet the pink ones with raisins) and
for drinks chocolate or atole.

But I guess if you want some kind of salad the Nopales should be a good
sidedish.

Hola, Patricia,

How neat that you live in Mexico City. I was a visitor there in the late
1990's for a few days on a business trip. I enjoyed it very much. The city
is so vibrant, so historical. I hope one day to return.

It´s a great city to live in, but quite caotic, you should come again now
its prettier because the goverment and the private sector had spent a lot
of money in remodelation of historic buildings

Hola Tomas Alejandro,

Hello Tomas Alejandro, could you tell me why Guadalajara is known as La Perla del Occidente?

I hope that within this group you don't find as you say people who will kick you or put you down when you ask questions or ask for help. I have found nothing but support and backing with the members of Nuestros Ranchos. I joined in May of 2003 at the invitation of Joseph via this cyberspace group. If it weren't for Joseph's gentle help and guidance I would not have continued with this labor of love that provides a great deal of satisfaction when I see the results of our hard work and when I feel the support of all who are in this group, even when I ask dumb questions or provide dumb answers.

Atentamente;

Hola Edddy Gtz:

genealogia, dime, fuistes a alguna parroquia a investigar

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18567-77658-85?cc=1874591&wc…

The document is hard to read, it would be easier to find the words you want translated if you could mention in which line they appear.
In the second line of the document I think it says "hijo de hernando de villalpando".
In the third line from the bottom of the first paragraph I think it says "dho anton de villalpando".
dho is the abbreviation of "dicho", which could be translated as "the said", "the previously mentioned", "the after-mentioned", "such".

In my family tree, I have a maternal second great-grandfather, Francisco de Peña, who was married to Maria Alvina de Villapando on 19 Feb 1783 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, MX. They had eight children, including a Christobal de Villalpando. He was born about 1705. He was married to Maria Antonia de Villareal. So far, I have discovered one child, Juan Manuel Villalpando. Is this a different Cristobal de Villalpando (aside from the "l" in their family name?)

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Cristobal de Villalpando or Cristobal Gallegos?

There is a Cristobal de Villalpando who lived in Asientos in the 1700s whose identity is puzzling. He had several children with Petra Dolores de Castillas (or del Castillo), who I believe was also known as Petra Dolores Fonseca.

I did not find a marriage record for Cristobal de Villalpando and Petra Dolores de Castillas. I found the death/burial record for Cristobal de Villalpando on 10 Apr 1772, Asientos, but unlike many of the period, does not name his parents.

I found two marriage records that suggest possibilities:

Xptoval Ricardo Gallegos, s/o Joseph Gallegos and Juana Antonio de Villalpando, married 20 Sept 1746, Asientos, to Petra Dolores Castilla, d/o of Antonio Castilla and Efigenia Dolores Fonseca. In the Informacion Matrimonial, Cristobal says he is 19 years old; and incorrectly names his father as Francisco.

Joseph Gallegos, s/o of Francisco Gallegos and Francisca Guevaro (or Guerrero?) married 5 Feb 1731, Juana Antonia de Villalpando, d/o Thomas de Villalpando and Maria Sotelo.

Cristobal Gallegos and Petra Dolores Fonseca had a child, Joseph Cayetano, baptized 14 Aug 1747, in Asientos. I did not find other children for this couple.

Cristobal de Villalpando and Petra Dolores Castilla (Castillo) or Fonseca had several children in Asientos as follows (the double surnames show how Petra's surname varies):

(i) Antonio de la Cruz de Villalpando Castillo, christened 11 May 1749 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos,
(ii) Joseph Antonio de Villalpando, born abt 1751/56. He married on 20 Aug 1776 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos Maria Agustina de la Luz Lopez, daughter of Pedro Fermin Lopez and Anna Gertrudis Gutierres.
(iii) Vitorino de los Dolores de Villalpando Fonseca, christened 13 Apr 1752 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos
(iv) Maria Michaela de Gordiana de Villalpando Castillas, christened 1 Jun 1754 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos She married (1) on 11 Jun 1773 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos Josef Maria Mendez, son of Santiago Julio Mendez and Mara Sepherina Ribera; (2) on 4 Nov 1776 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos, Josef Miguel de Sierra, son of Francisco Miguel de Sierra and Juana Pasquala de Medina.
(v) Joseph Brigido de Villalpando Castillas, christened 3 Aug 1756 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos
(vi) Joseph Silbestre Mariano de Villalpando, christened 19 Jan 1761 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos
(vii) Maria Marciala de Villalpando Castilla, christened 17 Jul 1763 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos
(viii) Joseph Francisco Christobal de Villalpando Castillo, christened 9 Nov 1765 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos
(ix) Maria Gertrudis de Villalpando Fonseca, christened 18 Jun 1769 in Nuestra Señora de Belén, Asientos

The godparents of some of these children are other Villalpandos. I've notice that many of the godparents of the Asientos Villalpandos were Villalpando relatives (often the same person); perhaps this is to strengthen family ties.

The marriage records cited above suggest that Cristobal was quite young when married. The IM says he was 19, but if I have his parents right, he was quite young when married, and overstated his age. I have noted that the stated ages in the IMs tend to be off, sometimes saying the person is older (as in this case), or younger.

I think that Cristobal Gallegos and Cristobal de Villalpando are the same person, with Cristobal changing his surname to that of his mother after the first child, Joseph Cayetano Gallegos, is born. I think Villalpando was a prominent family in Asientos, as later members were styled Don or Dona. This would have made the bonds between Cristobal the the other Villalpandos stronger.

Petra Dolores used both Castilla/Castillo and Fonseca; with Fonseca being her mother's surname.

I do not have definitive information supporting this conclusion, and wonder in any NR member might have additional information to support or disprove the conclusion.
