in tracing my paternal linage, knowing full well, that they were Yndígenas in the beginning. & here is where i am trying to find the original person, who got "issued" the "Hernándes ~
Errnandes" surname. now i am aware, that on my maternal side, those ancestors were Españoles, through & through, from Los Altos. & i was able to purchase the books of the Padrones for that area, from as early as 1630. most of my ancestors are there [maternal]. also have the "Retoños Series," by M. González-Leal. all of the familias are there, as that side, has been there for over 400 years. i can see how the owners gave their surname to either an Yndígena or a Slave, once they were freed, that persons surname. all of this is also in the padrones. & so my simple question is this. my Great Grand-Father to the 4th power, {Francisco Sibrian Hernándes} was married in 1758 in Zacoalco de Torres. i have that document & in that Marriage Certificate, it states that His Father is: Gerónimo de la Cruz & His Mum is: Maria Salome [Yndia]. & that Francisco was originally from Xocotepec, Jalisco. as best as i can figure this out, he was given that surname & was Freed. Well, Then...There must have been a Rancho or Hacienda de Labor, in Xocotepec, or around that area, where He worked & got the Surname. His Dad is a "de la Cruz" which applied to many-many Yndígenas, throughout Jalisco, in that era. i see it a lot in Los Altos also. was there ever published a similar book, about that areas Church records [Padrones] & where can i find one, if they are available somewhere. Los Altos was very well documented, that is for sure& much is available. Thank You & Hopefully, someone might have a clue. i did try to see if a Baptismal record existed for Him, in Xocotepec, but no dice.
Good evening, all. My name is Sebastian and I have been digging through records to expand my knowledge about my ancestors. I split my browsing between my Mexican side, mostly Zacatecas and Aguascalientes so far, and my Guatemalan side. I have now been working on my tree for a bit and have picked up a few resources that have aided me. I have come to a set of distant grandparents, Jose/Joseph Miguel Romo de Vivar and his wife, Ysabel Rosaura Lopez de Navas, of which I have not seen a solid link connecting Jose Migl to his parents. These are mentioned in the marriage between Ricardo Romo de Vivar and Geronima Anastacia de Velasco, document which I have linked below. I have seen many people place a completely different set of parents for the couple that gets married, with no supporting documents. I'd like to ask if anyone could shed light on this (hopefully saving me a ton of time) or know who the parents of Jose Migl are, before I attempt to look through films. I need help with this record. I'm trying to get some of it transcribed (so I can use google translate afterwards). I noticed on page two, about a third of the way down the page, that the word "dispensa" appears. My guess is a dispensation....so I would next go to a "Dispensas matrimoniales" of the same year to look for that record. Am I on par? The bride and groom are Pedro Z Gonzalez Infante & Maria Refugio Briceño.

I am a descendant of Juan González de Hermosillo, the first of this family to arrive in New Spain, from Guadalcanal, Spain, along with his wife Ana Muñoz. However, I have not been able to find any primary source on who his parents were. Some genealogies say that he was the son of Gonzalo de Hermosillo and Ana Rodríguez, while others mention Isabel Escobar as his mother. Does anyone have additional information? Many of the early families of Aguacalientes also had relations in San Luis Potosi. I am trying to solve a puzzle of shared compound surnames among the Nietos of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and San Luis Potosi.
Don Esteban Nieto (II) (estimated birth 1642) of San Luis Potosi was married twice, first to a Juana Gonzalez, second to a Dona Ana Diaz Rodriguez y Salas 26 November 1670 in San Luis Potosi. Ana was the daughter of a Rodrigo Martin and an Ana Rodriguez. Don Esteban Nieto II’s parents are not named in the marriage.
Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s descendants mostly spread throughout Armadillo de los Infante, San Luis Potosi. Strange surnames appear among two of his sons by his second wife: Augustin and Pedro. Augustin Nieto married three times, first to Angela del Castillo, second to Felipa de Cervantes, and third to Maria de Villalobos. Augustin Nieto’s descendants spread throughout Aguascalientes and, correct me if I am wrong; some begin appearing with the surname “Nieto Corona.” Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s son Pedro went by the name “Pedro Hernandez Sedillo”.
This would seem to indicate Don Esteban Nieto (II) as a son of Pedro Nieto (son of Hernando de Almeida and Isabel Hernandez) and Dona Josefa Corona. Esteban’s estimated birth of 1642 seems to match up with Pedro Nieto’s other children in Pinos. This would seem to explain why at least the surnames Hernandez and Corona spontaneously appear among the descendants of Don Esteban Nieto (II) (the origins of Sedillo/Cedillo is still a mystery). However, Pedro Nieto is not Esteban’s father.
Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s parents are not named in his marriage but curiously they are named when he was a padrino to the baptism of a boy “Leon?” (baptized 3 September 1690, in Armadillo de los Infantes) found here:

Don Esteban Nieto (II) is named as the son of Esteban Nieto (I) and Ysabel Perez. This is the only primary source I have seen that directly names Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s parents.

Here Don Esteban Nieto (II) is named as “Esteban del Nieto y del Rio” and described as a son of an “Esteban del Nieto y Rodruguez” with the assumption that Don Esteban Nieto (II) was related to his wife Dona Ana Diaz Rodriguez y Salas. If they are related it might be through Ana’s mother Ana Rodriguez. I have been unable to contact the original poster of this information, so I do not know of its accuracy.
The question remains: Why do some of Augustin Nieto’s descendants use Corona? …Could Dona Josefa Corona’s husband Pedro Nieto be a brother or father to Esteban Nieto (I)?
I found this archive of when my 7th generation great grandfather Antonio Madera (1660 aprox - 1709) registered this symbol to use as a branding iron for his livestock. Antonio Madera was married to "Maria Candelaria Angon (1655 aprox - 1735)
It was registered at Tlaltenango, Zacatecas since it seems that people in the Zacatecas/Jalisco area would go to Tlatenango to register things as it may have been a Government office much closer than having to go farther to Guadalajara (Real Audencia of Guadalajara).
I had seen in another archive about tierras dated 1616 tha "Xerez," was under juridiction of Tlatenango. Thats a clue when looking for Census data in that time. To look in the archives of Tlatenango.

Los archivos parroquiales no dan luz a este asunto. Los protocolos aun no arrojan mas datos y el testamento de Francisco de Ibarra no ha sido localizado.
Juan de Ibarra fue hijo de Martin de Ibarra e Yguria y Ana de Albizuri, nacido en Eibar, Guipuzcoa, España y venido a México en 1575 contando con alrededor de los 20 años.

Tomó el cargo de Tesorero de la Nueva Vizcaya en 1582. Caso con Isabel de Mesa, hija de Cristóbal de Ontiveros e Isabel de Nava. Tuvieron por hijos a Martin, Nicolás, Juan, Catalina, Isabel Geronima y Ana. Y entre estos a Francisco.

Una estancia de Juan de Subia Pacheco Heredero de Alonso Pacheco terminó en manos de Francisco Medrano yerno de Juan de Ibarra. ¿Es este Lucas de Subia Pacheco esposo de maría de Mondragón pariente de Juan de Subia Pacheco que habito en Durango?
O más aún. Alonso Diaz quien recibió 2 caballerías de tierra del mismo Juan de Ibarra en 1583 mas otras 3 estancias de ganado mayor y tres caballerías de tierra entre 1578 y 1587. Fue gobernador y capitán general de la Nueva Vizcaya. ¿Es el mismo Alonso Díaz que recibió una merced de pesquería en 1585 y padre o abuelo de Cathalina Díaz Mondragón?

Micaela Gregoria de Placencia esta ligada por un lado a la esposa de Juan de Ibarra por medio de Anna de Ontiveros, y por otro lado ligada en line directa con Francisco de Ibarra de Chapala por medio de Ana de Ibarra.

(my hometown!)

THere are a lot of first names on the first page followed by the name/term Apache - pops up other places too. Seen the name Comanche as well, in the first few pages. Very interesting!

I am having a ball reading this diary of a Fray (Padre) Gaspar Jose De Solis of the College of Frays (Padres) of Guadalupe, Zacatecas, Mexico. Also known as Colegio Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe.
Year is 1767 and he leaves the college in Zacatecas to travel up north to Texas while documenting in detail things he encounters along the way. Such as making stops at haciendas that extracted silver.
One of those haciendas he stopped at was of Maria Illdelfonso De La Campa y Cos. The daughter of Don Fernando De La Campa y Cos. He described that in that area there were a lot of carboneros.
It took him 16 days to get to Texas and he visits the missions. He met the Governor of Texas Hugo O'Connor," at the Mission San Antonio De Bejar then he went on to the other missions.

Xerez for example was under jurisdiction of Tlatenango.
As well as Jalpa was under jurisdiction of Juchipila.

I believe that Fray Marcos de Niza was probably the very first explorer (besides the native americans) of what today is Texas and New Mexico. I think that at that time the Real Audencia was a Compostela of Nayarit, Nueva Galicia, Nueva Espana (Mexico).

This is my first post on this forum. I've been casually browsing pages on here for years but never actually created an account. I've gone about 3 or more years now of reading through countless documents to trace back my ancestry within Nueva Galicia with a focus on Indigenous roots. I've helped several people reconnect with their distant living relatives within Aguascalientes as well. Lastly, I'm an author on lost civilizations and my background is Anthropology.
Anyways, there's a genetic anomaly in my DNA profile which only a very few people within Aguascalientes share. At first I thought it was a fluke, seeing as the Bering Strait migration from Asia carried over genetic profiles of many ethnic groups. However, this genetic trace (at around 1%) is so specific I've been able to disregard it as part of the original genetic mtDNA haplogroup migrations into the Americas. The result is that of South Indian/Sri Lankan. I've seen other people from Aguascalientes with Northern Indian, which could be the result of early immigrational epochs. I've heard rumors of Indians and Filipinos migrating into the region as early as the 1600's.
I'm just curious if anyone has come across a specific name or lineage that could reveal a little more on this subject. In all my research I've never actually come across anything closely resembling a 'chino' link as it would have been entered into the records.

Is the Leonor Gonzalez who is the mother of Felipe Nunez de Miranda the same Leonor Gonzalez who is the mother of Cristobal Vasquez de Mercado? If the same, than she is the widow of both Sebastian Vasquez de Mercado and Pedro Nunez.
Felipe Nunez de Miranda, from the city of Zacatecas, married Mariana de Sandoval on 26 Oct 1665 in Nochistlan.
Cristobal Vasquez de Mercado came to Nochistlan from the city of Zacatecas about 9 years* prior to his marriage to Petrona de Moscoso y Sandoval on 27 May 1675.
*If I read it right. My reading Spanish is only so-so.
I only have a few chapters of "Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII según sus archivos parroquiales", so I don't know if it says anything about it.

lo que me interesa de estos matrimonios es el segundo donde se menciona en la información matrimonial de su tercer matrimonio que Nicolás estuvo casado con Magdalena de Avalos de VILLA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE SAN JUAN donde fue a ver a su mama que estaba enferma y allá murió , la partida de defunción de dicha Magdalena el 13 de diciembre de 1667 en san juan de los lagos menciona a su marido Nicolás Bocanegra, por muchos años creí que eran los Padres de Josefa Pérez de Bocanegra esposa de Bernardino de Avalos casados en santa Fe Guanajuato el 26 de abril de 1664, pero me entro la duda por las edades Josefa caso en 1664 que hubiese tenido 14 años debió haber nacido en 1650 que es probable que si haya sido hija de Magdalena Sanchez de Avalos y Nicolás Pérez de Bocanegra porque Nicolás tuvo su ultimo hijo registrado con su primer esposa Andrea Ramirez de Vargas
en el año de 1645, esta ultima pudo morir ese año y Nicolás viuda casar en 1645 0 1646 dando tiempo a que naciera la Dicha Josefa Perez de Bocanegra casada con Bernardino de Avalos, Pero otra duda que me salta es que es Sanchez de Avalos y Bernardino seria Avalos Sanchez por ser Hijo de Francisco de Avalos y Maria Sanchez y Josefa es Pérez Bocanegra Sanchez de Avalos hija de Magdalena Sanchez de Avalos que en su partida de defunción menciona que un hermano pago el entierro por lo que creo que esta Magdalena era hermana de Bernardino ósea seria su suegra y hermana .
Pero luego revisando la partida matrimonial de Bernardino dice que tanto el como la esposa
Josefa Pérez de Bocanegra son españoles cuando el dicho Nicolás siempre fue tenido como mestizó es probable que no sea el padre de esta. Compañeros alguien tendrá mas información para disipar mis dudas

n 1746 Escandón was commissioned to inspect the country between Tampico and the San Antonio River, later known as Nuevo Santander. In January 1747 he sent seven divisions into the area, and in October he presented a colonization plan. After delays by the Spanish bureaucracy, Escandón was made governor and captain general of Nuevo Santander on June 1, 1748. In 1749 he was made Count of Sierra Gorda and Knight of the Order of Santiago by Fernando VI, and he began establishing settlements along the Rio Grande. The first two were Camargo (founded on March 5) and Reynosa (March 14). On August 22, 1750, Escandón granted José Vázquez Borrego fifty sitios for the founding of Dolores, and on October 10 he sent Vicente Guerra to set up Revilla, twenty leagues northwest of Camargo. On March 6, 1753, Escandón founded the town of Mier, and in 1755 he granted permission to Tomás Sánchez de la Barrera y Garza to found Laredo, the largest and most successful permanent Spanish settlement in Southwest Texas.
On April 30, 1727, Escandón married Dominga Pedrajo in Soto de la Marina, province of Santander, Spain. She was the daughter of Juan Manuel de Pedrajo and Dominga de Revilla. She died in 1736, and in 1737 Escandón married María Josefa de Llera from Querétaro. They had seven children. After the appointment of a royal commission in 1767, the settlers of Nuevo Santander were assigned the land grants that Escandón had promised them. Grants were made to residents of the colonies of the Rio Grande, thus starting the colonization of South Texas from the Rio Grande to the San Antonio River. José de Escandón was accused by Diego Corrido of maladministration, and he had to leave for Mexico City to defend himself. He died during the trial, on September 10, 1770, and was buried in Mexico City. In 1773 his son Manuel Ignacio de Escandón y Llera petitioned the court for a settlement; a decision rendered by the court completely exonerated the count.

Durante cierto tiempo he escuchado que han investigado a la familia Franco que proviene de Silao, pero en otros escritos se habla de otros Franco relacionados con la familia Alba.
recientemente me enteré de que los conquistadores de la Sierra Gorda fueron enviados a la Sierra Gorda de Querétaro y que algunos conquistadores recibieron tierras o minas en Querétaro y Guanajuato, como ocurrió con el capitán Diego Rangel Peguero que dejó propiedades y herederos en Xichú de Indios (actualmente Victoria, Guanajuato) y en Zimapán, Hidalgo.
Acá en Querétaro hubo un Capitán Diego Franco. También existe un testamento de Rodrigo de Larrea, casado con Isabel López, quien otorgó poder a su cuñado Diego Franco para formalizar dicho testamento, pero no puedo asegurar que se trate del capitán ya que en el documento no refiere ese cargo. Otra cuestión interesante es que Rodrigo de Larrea hace referencia a lugares cercanos a Nueva Galicia:
" ...doy mi poder cumplido, del cual de derecho se requiere, a Rodrigo Marín, vecino deste pueblo, especialmente para que pueda recibir y cobrar de la persona y bienes de Alonso de Avalos Saavedra, vecino de Atoyaque, en la provincia de Ávalos y de sus bienes y de quien con derecho todos los pesos de oro quel susodicho pareciere y constara deber al dicho Rodrigo de Larrea y a sus herederos de resto de una escritura que en su favor otorgó, procedida de la venta de las estancias de Amatitlán, y caballerías de tierra y un negro que le vendió, la cual pasó ante Gregorio Ruiz, escribano público en 14 de marzo del año pasado de noventa y seis años a que me refiero..."
El testamento es de 21 de marzo de 1597, espero que sirva para alguno de ustedes.
Sobre el Capitán aparece como testigo en el matrimonio de Alonso Rodríguez de Alarcón y Mariana Salgado el día 21 de junio de 1610 en Querétaro.

I think I may have found a lead on our Leonel de Cervantes married to Leonor de Orozco. Their son Jose de Cervantes (married to Isabel Carranza) was a testigo For the dispensa of Miguel Hernandez Goyas and Luisa Becerra. As part of his testimony he admits to being a relative of Miguel's in the 4th degree (though, I think it is really 3rd and 4th degree). Here is the link to the dispensa and Jose's testimony:

Miguel Hernandez was the son of Antonio Hernandez Goyas (Vasquez) and Leonor Casillas, the grandson of a Francisco Vasquez Hernandez, and a great-grandson of Martin Vasquez de Lara and Isabel Hernandez. Martin was the son of Martin Vasquez Zermeño and Ana Garcia de Miranda, the brother of Baltazar Vasquez de Lara (Luisa's ancestor) and of Elvira Gil de Lara Vasquez. Mariano Gonzalez Leal cites Elvira as married to a Jeronimo de Cervantes Orozco, with at least one daughter named Maria who was under the guardianship of her grandfather Martin Vasquez Zermeño before he died. I believe that Jose de Cervantes's testimony suggests Jeronimo and Elvira were also the parents of Leonel Cervantes (married to Leonor de Orozco).
The testimony of the other two witnesses, Nicolas de Ornelas and Tomas Sánchez de Mendoza exclude the parentesco being from Leonor de Orozco. Both of these were Jose de Cervantes's cousins, the sons of Leonor's two sisters Petronila and Maria discussed earlier in this thread. However, they both stated that the generales did not apply to them, leaving the relationship with Miguel Hernandez Goyas to be through Jose's father Leonel.
What do you all think? Does anyone have more on this Jeronimo de Cervantes Orozco?
There is one other aspect that might help us go further with this family. There was another Geronimo de Cervantes Villaseñor in Jalostotitlan who was married to Ana Muñoz Lozano de Hermosillo. They lived with their family at La Cañada de Don Geronimo de Villaseñor. Could he be a descendant of the earlier Jeronimo de Cervantes Orozco that was married to Elvira Gil de Lara? The only clue I have to his ancestors is the testimony of Joaquin de Anda Flores de la Torre for the marriage of Geronimo's daughter, where he says he is her relative.
Joaquin Is the great-grandson of Esteban de Anda Altamirano and his wife Catalina. Esteban also had three daughters with his first wife Beatriz de Barroso y Vera who married Cevantes Villaseñors. Their daughter Bernarda married Francisco Villaseñor and were involved in a lengthy legal battle over inheritence with Bernarda's half-brother Pedro. One unnamed daughter was married to a Tomas Cervantes (who seem to have lived in Puruándiro). Another named Beatriz was married to none other than a Leonel de Cervantes! These three were the albaceas of Beatriz's will according to Gonzalez Leal. Could Geronimo de Cervantes Villaseñor be a descendant of one of these three? Could they also be related to the Jeronimo Cervantes married to Elvira Gil de Lara?
