It took about 2 months for Los Angeles County to get back to me with an
official death certificate for my great grandmother who died in 1929. It was
frustrating in that there was no birth date and her birth year was given by
her son who was unsure. Review your documents carefully as it may give
you clues to other sources of information. The mortuary my family used is
still in business today and they were kind and helpful. They gave me the
service date, burial date and place as well as the name of the church (who I
have yet to contact). Also, if your family was/is Catholic the Los Angeles
Archdiocese web site is helpful. If you knew their address at the time
(from family members or census records) you may be able to figure out what
parish they attended and then you can review their records. Good luck!

I couldn't quite make out the handwriting in the death record of a
young child, but after studying it I decided it could only be "muri? de
ojo". That didn't make sense so I looked up the many definitions of
"ojo" and guessed it might mean suddenly without apparent cause. Then
my wife told me that "de ojo" or "mal de ojo" was a superstition that
someone could be killed by a look, an evil eye, a sort of witchcraft.
Has anyone else run across this?

My mother always told us the story about one of my sisters who she felt
had died from this and had someone do a "remedy" to prevent her from being
sick. I think there were many old wives tales in our culture years ago and
even though she told the story I don't think she really believed it. Also,
my sister did die but probably from something else!

Need help with Pilot Search.

Family History Center "Under Pilot Search" I am searching for Andres Tinajero and Macsimiana Huerta. when I entered Andres Tinajero "Jose Evaristo Tinajero" his son pulls up and it says that Andres and Mcsimian are the parents which is good however....it does not lists Andres parents. Then I go to Family History and put in the Batch Number or the Film numbre it brings up a list of people but Jose Evaristo nor Andress nor Macsimia pull up. Shouldn't they pull up.

Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Hello All,
I have reached a road block with some of my research. I cannot find a birth record for my grandfather or the death record for his mother. The family story is that shortly after my grandfather was born in Los Angeles County in April 1926, his mother (Francisca Garcia) passed away August 1926. We do not know what from.

We have no records for her (death) or for him (birth). We do not know at this point where our great grandmother is even buried. There are confused records in the LDS. A member appears to have submitted incorrect data and the trail is lost until we find documentation tracing back to the correct location in Mexico. I do have a church marriage record for her but it has very little info on it.

For my grandfather, I've located one record of birth for a sibling born before him in L.A. by midwife. But he was not ever able to get his own.

I've made requests to the Los Angeles County and am also waiting to hear back from the state. Does anyone have any tips for how else I might find a lead? Is there a reason why records from 1926 in L.A. might be spotty?

I have established that Eugenio Calvillo, my great-grandfather, was a son to Encarnacion Calvillo & Ysidora Ramires. This information is based on Mormon Church archives for the San Jose Parish in Calvillo, Aguascalientes,Mex. Eugenio is listed as being christen in 1840. Eugenio married Filomena Mungia from Reynosa, Mex. in 1877 in Hidalgo County, Texas. I do not know if Eugenio was an only child.

I would appreciate any information on Encarnacion Calvillo or Ysidora Ramires.

Help Nuestros Ranchos Group. In doing my reaserch, I acquired a death certificate of my Grandfather on my mother side. In this death certificate its states that on July 4, 1928 my grandfather died of a gunshot wound without medical assistance, in the Hacienda de Ledesma Jalisco, which at the time belong to the Nicolas Madraso family, if my information is correct. What it does not state is what events led up to the wounding. According to my now deceased mother, she died believing that he had been stabbed. She was 8 years of age at the time and maybe thats what she remembered. Anyway to make a long story short. I would like to know what led to this tragic event. I was told in Cienega de Mata (now Primo de Verdad) that I would need to contact El Ministerio Publico en Lagos de Moreno. I did and it was fruitless and was refer to Guadalajara's Archivo Historico and for three weeks of calling down there did not accomplish anything. If anyone of you all have any leads as to where or whom I could refer to, please let me know.

I am trying to identify some members of the Ruis de Esparza family.

Nicolas Ruis de Esparza and Antonia Garcia de Naba were the parents of Josepha Ruis de Esparza according to the matrimonial information for 1715/18 (image 24). Question: was he also known as Nicolas Salado?

Capn. Lope Ruis de Esparza and Dona Luiza de la Ana Ponce de Leon were the parents of Lorenzo Ruis de Esparza according to the matrimonial information for 1710 (image 88). If I read the document correctly, Lorenzo was 40 years old, and thus born about 1670 (or perhaps a little later if his age is not correct). Question: was this Lope the Lope Ruis de Esparza born in 1655? I do not find a marriage for him.

I have uploaded a rich text format that describes important historical events of Lagos de Moreno. This information was obtained from the official site of the City Concil of Lagos. I reorganized it in chronological order. In each entry, I highlighted the names of individuals, to facilitate tracking potential ancestors. Are there any online sources of information or portals where records can
be requested for the 1968 and 1969 time period for Altas Palmas, Jerez,
Zacatecas? I have a person who is trying to confirm their own date of
birth and I don't know where he would write to request documents.
Information that can be requested Online or via the Postal system is
what I'm trying to obtain for this person.

Hello! I'm glad to have found a site dedicated to the exact area that my ancestors are from... I have been bitten, recently, by the geneology bug - but have always wondered about the lives of my ancestors and have felt the desire to know their names and key dates in their lives.

My paternal grandparents were born in (or around) Huitzila, Zac. My grandfather (Apolonio Castro Bañuelos, b. circa 1921) came to the US in the 40's (settled in California later) and then brought my grandmother (Maria de Jesus Correa Uribe) and some children, with the rest being born here in the U.S.

I have had some trouble digging up names from some databases - mostly of my grandparents themselves and their parents generation, which I attribute (correctly or not), to a possible fire in the town church/record hall, possibly during the Cristero war? (The idea of the fire comes from my grandmother). They have never known their real birthdays.

My grandfather's parents: *Damaso/Damas (*or some other form) Castro Tejeda and Petra Bañuelos Herrera.

My grandmother's parents: Leopoldo Correa *Vasquez (b. 1898, El Teul, Zac.) and Maria Altagracia Uribe Campos (absolutely nothing on her).

Just recently I have found two marriage dates for my grandfather's grandparents!

I am trying to find additional information on Diego de Villalpando. Was he related to Thomas de Villapando of Aguascalientes and Asientos (son of Thomas de VIallalpando and Maria de Veles; originally from Leon)?

He married Ysabel Lozano (or Lozano de Gardea), perhaps in the 1670/80 period. I do not know where, and had at least these children (no baptismal records found):

Gabriel, m. Leonore de Sepulveda (1704 matrimonial information in Aguascalientes; actual marriage record not found; no children found)
Xptoval, m. Getrudis de Estrada (1704, matrimonial information in Aguascalientes; actual marriage record not found; no children found)
Mariana, m. Antonio Trillo, 1694 (they had several children in Aguascalientes)
Joseph, died 1684, Aguascalientes, age 14
Getrudis, m. Bernardo Trillo, 1707 (they had several children in Aguascalientes)

Several Villalpando families lived in Asientos, but not these ones.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

My research revolves around Ledesma,Cienega de Mata,Chinampas Jalisco. Recently I discover that my father was born in Santa Teresa, baptised in Ledesma Jalisco.I have looked for Santa Teresa around that area and cannot find it. Also One of his brothers was born in El Rancho El Oceano,cannot find that one either. These people were born in late 1800's and the places could now have new names. I would appreciate any info.
