Hi Arturo, I tried that but the personal e-mail address's are not with our profiles. I tried using the one with the message he posted but it was not correct.. I did sent it the way you suggested but that did not show me his e-mail address. I guess that's for our protection?
thank you for helping.

The films database is now fully functional and films can be added and edited.
Please let me know if there are any problems.
Dear Arturo:
Would like to volunteer for the Excel project.

I like the idea of the book catalog for those of us who own pertinent
books. I would think that a brief desciption would be useful, too. Of
course, the latter would need to bilingually provided.
Dear Arturo:
Just to let you know, I am not bilingual, so would only be available for the English part.

Arturo:

There is a Banuelos family who claims to be my cousins and cousins of my Banuelos branch. They don't know HOW they are cousins but they insist that they are. I can't find any records of them anywhere.
Would this be possibly her?

Thanks, you helped me connect the "dots' to the missing link between the Lazaro Banuelos family and the DE LEONS and my cousins the BANUELOS of my hometown area. When my brother Manuel died in 31 May 2006, I met her descendants at his rosary. They insisted that they were our cousins but they didn't know "how" ..they barely remembered the name of their own mother's (Nicolasa Banuelos) parents Lazaro Banuelos and Mercedes Flores. I promised myself to find the connection. I visited their graves and photographed the tombstones of their family and for the past 18 months I've been searching for the truth.
My mother was the one who had a special bond with Nicolasa Banuelos! I remember back in the late 1940s we went to visit her and I played in the back yard when Nicolasa's turkey (which was taller than I was) got loose and it chased me around the yard...all the time I was screaming for help..and Tia Nicolasa (in my family, older-generation cousins were always called Tio or Tia) and my mother came out and almost peed in their pants from laughter!
Nicolasa's father was a son of Leocadio Pascual Banuelos who was a brother of my mother's grandmother "Chentita" Maria Vicenta Banuelos (my mother's Tiburcia Villaneda's mother) and her brother (the Banuelos' grandfather) (Jose de los) Santos Banuelos. Their father Jesus Banuelos is our mutual GGGF.
Lazaro Banuelos and Tiburcia Villaneda were "primo-hermanos" (first cousins).

Thanks to you (the border-crossings helped) and many others who helped me regarding my "Tia" Nicolasa Banuelos (daughter of Lazaro Banuelos), I also e-mailed an inquiry to all of my cousins and family members and one of them responded with the necessary information. Lazaro Banuelos (born Abt. 1888) was a son of Leocadio Pascual Banuelos who was a brother of one of my maternal great grandmothers Ma. Vicenta Banuelos (Chentita). So therefore Lazaro was a primo-hermano (first-cousin) to Vicenta's daughter Tiburcia Villaneda.(my mother's mother).

Some primos told me to leave the dead in peace and I replied "they are the ones that give me no peace", yes, cause they want to be as you mentioned, "properly record", that is a pasion that join us with them; and there is the other pasion, to know. So feel all that humbleness and all that warming around. And for sure they love you and us.

Jose Carlos,
I tried contacting you with this e-mail address and could not connect with you. I found a photo of my Aunt Virg (Cecilia) Banuelos Gutierrez taken abt 20 years ago that looks like your Grandmother Banuelos you posted in the album section. I would like to e-mail it to you in case you have not seen her.. I would appreciate an updated e-mail address.

Next sunday I am going to review that film in case anyone want me to extract data from its contents.
Greetings from Leticia Leon
I am trying to sort out an interesting question about Juan de Santiago or de Santiago Escobar.
Hi George, you make a good point, well I think the other 20 children are missing, you could fit in many kids, there are huge gaps especially with Gertrudis Navarro she could have easily had another 8 or 9. As well as the other Gertrudis another 4 or 5. Same thing with Antonia another 4 or so. Don Juan sounds like the guy who had a child every year, I mean 45 he would have to have one every year, unless he had twins several times. another possibility. You could try looking at other "hot spots" where the Spanish of Aguas could go, a popular one, I have stumbled upon is PINOS, ZACATECAS. For some reason you find several of the early settlers going up there. Others include the rest of Aguas, sometimes northern Los Altos usually Lagos or Teocaltiche seem the common places. Also try Nochistlán. But to save time, I guess looking at the "Defunciones" would be helpful too in Aguas, since Id imagine they burried their stillborn (prob had some) where they lived (Aguas) . -Daniel

You do not have to have a child every year or twins to have a large number of children if you are male. When people hear that there were 8 kids in my family they are surprised that it is so large. I do not tell them that My biological father has 35 children from different women. He was from Jalisco. He had many of these children out of wedlock when he was still married to my mother. I know of one half sister that was a few months older than me so we were in the belly at the same time for many months. I have had strangers walk up to me and tell me that they were my sibling or niece.

Richard,
The case of Juan de Santiago Escobar is unusual because he had fortyfive
(45) LEGITIMATE children. None of these were out of wedlock. He married
three times and lived a long life, probably well into his eighties.

What exactly are marriage information records? I have always
understood them to be a record of the publication of marriage banns,
or statements of intent to marry or marriage petitions. But
occasionally I find some that are dated after the fact, as if they
were announcements or were late in being entered into the register
(but these latter were transcribed by someone else so the dates may be
wrong). Can anyone shed light on this?
Second question:
If a marriage record states that the marriage was performed "en la
iglesia parroquial del Pueblo de San José de Gracia", but in the
margin the entry is prefaced by "Río Blanco" ... does that mean the
marriage was performed in a parish church in Río Blanco, which was of
the parrochial jurisdiction of the parish of the Pueblo of San José de
Gracia ... ? or does Río Blanco have some other significance.

While we are on the subject of marriages, has anyone ever seen how much was paid for a marriage dispensation? I know my grandfathers' sister told her children that when she and her husband got married they had to pay for a dispensation. Her words were
"as if money would wipe out bloodlines," they were third cousins. She never said what they had to pay though.

I think you answered your own first question with your second question. It seems that many marriages were done in capillas and later recorded in the bigger town that had jurisdiction with sometimes jurisdiction is in doubt, like what i find in the valle, and they are listed in two bigger towns.
I have had some information recorded supposedly on the same date at jalos and tepa. Sometimes the recorded date is the date that it actually happened but sometimes it seems to be the date that it was recorded.
sometimes there is a remarriage because sometimes they made them remarry because they did not get a dispensation the first time and were later found to be closely related.

Stuart,
Informaciones Matrimoniales are marriage licences. The processs would start with the couple filing a petition to marry where they express their intention by free will (without being forced in any way). Since the marriage was being sanctioned by the Catholic Church, it had to follow the laws of the Chruch (Holy Council - e.g. Trent). Accordingly, there were specific requirements: being single (or widow or widower), never had expressed a vote of chastity (nuns and priests), not related, publicly express their intention in three festive dates (banns- inter missarum solemnia), and finally, show proof of their condition. To fulfil this last requirement, the couple gave their testimony after making the sign of the cross, and had to present witnesses that would would confirm their statements. Any objection (e.g., being related) would have to be reviewed by Archobishop, who may grant or deny the petion. Often as you mention, the entire process would be completed after the marriage da
te. One of these reasons included that the couple would be 'casados' but 'no velados'. I am not sure what being 'velados' implies. Maybe someone in the group knows.

Hello Richard and Jaime,
Thanks for the info.
I heard that sometimes the priest actually carried the register book
from town to town.

Hello Richard and Jaime,
Thanks for the info.
I heard that sometimes the priest actually carried the register book
from town to town.

In regards to your second question, it is my experience that the margin entry is the town where the couple is from, not where the marriage is performed. Many names in the margin are simply small places served by church where the ceremony is performed. You will find that the majority of these places did not have a local church or for some reason the couple decided not to marry in their local church.

I have found the opposite. the margin entry is where the marriage takes place and where the individual is from is in the body of the record since the individuals getting married were often from different ranches or towns. At least that is how I read it. many times what is in the body of the record is different from what is in the margin.

Here is a great website that can help you with name places. It has helped me a great deal in figuring out where towns and villages are in regards to the past and present churches. http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/
I have lived in and traveled extensively in Mexico in search of history, places and churches if you ever need help with a specific place, let me know I would be glad to help.

Yes, that is the way I have seen notes in the margins: The village where the wedding took place is in the margin, and in the body of the record it might say something like "vecino de ------" and gives the place in which the groom or bride was living.

George,
The Juan de Santiago who married Gertrudis Navarro in 1706 is probably the same Juan de Santiago Escobar who married Antonia Ruiz de Esparza in 1665 and Gertrudis Ruiz de Esparza Rangel in 1698. I came across his burial record a couple of years ago, and was surprised to find out that he had a total of 45 children, 24 of them still living in 1729. His burial record reads as follows (verbatim):
According to this information, he was "nearly one hundred years old" in 1729, which puts his birthdate close to 1629. I believe his age was exaggerated and that he was closer to 85 years of age. His first wife Antonia Ruiz de Esparza was born in 1643. Had she lived she would have been 86 years old in 1729. I believe Juan de Santiago was probably closer to her age than to 100.
One discrepancy I found in your inquiry is the surname you gave his second wife. Her name was Gertrudis de Esparza Rangel (Gertrudis Rangel in some records). According to their marriage record, she was "castiza", i.e. a person of mixed blood. You may have read "Castilla" where it says "Castisa". Here is the "dispensa" from "Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara" by Luz Montejano Hilton:
"Aguascalientes, Ags. 10 fojas."
The words "tresalva" (derived from TRES=3 and ALBA=white) and "castiza" are synonymous, meaning three quarters white (española) and one part indian. So, which is the great-grandmother who was a "coyota"? Could they be referring to Francisca Gabai de Moctezuma? Hmm... who knows, but that reminds me that I need to read the entire dispensa, all "10 fojas" of it. The dispensa can probably be found online under "Informaciones Matrimoniales" but I haven't had time to check.
Another interesting point about this dispensa is that Juan de Santiago was 54 years old in 1698. That makes him 85 in 1729. Although he was not "nearly 100 years old" as stated in his burial record, he did live a long life with a lot of "mileage" by the time he died in 1729, considering his three marriages and forty-five children !!
I found some discrepancies in the children you listed in your inquiry, but will have to discuss that later.
To be continued...

Thank you very much for the detailed reply! I appreciate the time you took to do this.
I took another look at both Juan de Santiago's death/burial record. My wife and I missed some of the details. We totally missed the estimate of his age.
I also took another look at the marriage record for Juan and Getrudis de Esparza i Rangel. You are quite right, what I read as "Castilla" is just as you said, ""Castissa." With your additional information about the dispensa, I also note that it is mentioned in the marriage record also.
I now need to go and look at all records for the children of all the wives. I've looked at some of them (and in some cases took the IGI index at face value ... I've learned, again, you've got to look at the original records). Some of the IGI records are not the routine extractions, and some of these I could not verify (in my original posting, I used the term "apparently" when I couldn't verify the data).
Another thing I have not yet done, is to do a systematic review of the documents for all the Santiago records in this time period. That is now on my to-do list. I have since down-loaded all the Santiago references from the IGI for what I think is the right time period (from the beginning to the first half of the 1700's), and can now start to do this.
I have started to look in the information matrimonial; but this is difficult, and slow, with my limited Spanish ability.

Hi Bill all this stuff, is very ascintating! About Francisca Gabay, I dont think she was much indian anymore, because her father was a spaniard, I mean she could be mestiza, but depending on who line you follow, or if you follow all, Valderrama, Cortes, etc. and al the Leonor Moceztuma, Lope's kids were all "espanol" meaning full white, if they werent they would be castizo, mestizo. etc. What outstands is Juan Santiago having 43 kids, wow, I thought m ancestor who had around 25 kids had a lot! Never mind. -Daniel

In reseaching records I've found this phrase used often and don't understand the translation. Can someone who speaks Spanish translate and solve my mystery?
"originarios y vicenos de este lugar"
The correct spelling is: hidropesía
This is an "Abnormal accumulation of liquid in some
cavity of the organism." I'm not sure what hidropesia
would translate to in English.
Hope that helps.

Nuptial blessings being withheld from a widow constitute Catholic cannon law. "By a law of ancient date which is still in force, this special benediction is withheld in all cases in which the bride has been previously mated."

"orginarios y vecinos de este lugar" literally translates as "natives and neighbors of this place"
Originario is a person who is originally from a place, so in this context it means that the people were born in the jurisdiccion, as opposed to having migrated there from somewhere else.
Vecino means neighbor which in this context means that they are residents of the jurisdiccion.
Someone who was originally from the place but had moved away would be originario de este lugar y vecino/feligres de "somewhere else"
Someone who had migrated to the jurisdiccion would be listed as originario de "somewhere else" y vecino de este lugar desde hace xxx anos... which would translate as resident of this place since xxx years ago.

Arturo, I think its amazing that you are willing to spearhead this
incorporation process. Can you explain what more we would gain from being
incorporated? And what kind of assistance is needed to make that happen?
Thanks, Raquel
Raquel:
The primary benefit of incorporating as a 501(c)(3) would be the ability of the group to take donations and have those donations be tax deductible. I have often thought it would be great to be able to sponsor members (or others researching our area of interest) in a variety of different ways, such as:
1. Financial assistance in publishing genealogical research
2. Sponsorships of speakers at genealogical conferences
3. Scholarships for members to attend genealogical conferences
Also, Joseph has been bearing the financial cost of hosting this website out of his own pocket for some time now. I think we should have it be self-sustaining and that is one of the reasons for the addition of ads to the site. They will hopefully cover those costs. As a corporation, Nuestros Ranchos as a corporation will be able to maintain its own finances. These are just my thoughts but I would be open to any other suggestions members might have.
As far as help, we are going to need:
1. A volunteer or two in Texas or California willing to put their name down as the corporate agent... basically to receive official communication from the Secretary of State on the incorporation process.
2. Volunteers to serve on a Board, consisting of at least three people, though I think five is more of an ideal number.
3. Draft bylaws, which can be fairly generic, but we will have to draft a statement of purpose that will pass muster in terms of having the Internal Revenue Service give us tax exempt status.
Joseph and Arturo,
If the group decides to incorporate, I would be willing to assist with the documentation as my contribution for all the benefit I have received by being a member.

Leticia,
"Incorporation" is a formal/legal manner of organizing and managing an
entity (con personalidad juridica) that is something very similar to the
Mexican SDRL (Sociedad de Responsabilidad Li
Hello all.
I have found a family in my line that sometimes goes by PLACENCIA, and at other time they are registered as ROBLES.
Claudia,
You have found an example of the beautiful confusion of the Spanish surname system that existed before the standardization of surnames introduced under the Bourbon reforms. Basically, in Spain and Spanish America, it was quite common to give children maternal surnames and sometimes even maternal grandmother's surnames (I have seen many examples of girls being named for their grandmother including her surname and thus having a different surname than all of their siblings).
So in this case, it seems that somewhere down the line, someone could not decide which surname to use and switched back and forth (or perhaps the priest could not choose and switched back and forth). This was quite common and you will run into it more the further back you go. You should stay open to looking for both surnames. It could be that Monica's father used Placencia and Robles and therefore the records for his daughter simply matched whatever name he was using at the time.
Of course, there are also plenty of examples where priests just "got it wrong" and confused one person for another or just put down the wrong name.
Can someone tell me what this phrase means in a marriage record?
"ha quienes no di las Bendiciones Nupciales por ser viudos"
(Both were widow/widower)
--
Best regards,
Stuart mailto:stuartarms@gmail.com
I read it as "to whom I did not give nuptial blessings for being widowed"
Someone else may have a better translation.

I translate it the same. But this is interesting. Has anyone noticed
whether nuptial blessings are only given the first time round? Or is it
only when it is the first marriage for the woman? I'lll have to go back
and look at my records to check for a pattern but was wondering if someone
already knows about this.

Thank you for your thoughtful insight on the topic Enfrain. If you would not
mind, I would appreciate you posting this to the general membership. I think it
useful to have contrasting points of view such that we make an informed
decision.
I too have largely shared your opinion that the current activities of the group
do not merit incorporation. It was the spontaneous generosity shown by the
membership. I know I have come across many opportunities where the goals of our
group could have been greatly advanced with some financial resources, but I am a
bit weary of doing fundraising without the framework of a formal organization.
I serve as Treasurer for my graduate school alumni association which is
incorporated and it is a bit of a hassle to maintain all of the requisite
filings with the District of Columbia government and the IRS but also not
overwhelming. We turn over perhaps 2,000 or 3,000 a year which I imagine would
be the range of Nuestros Ranchos activities. In that case, when we have
undertaken larger endeavors, we have the University take on the contracts, etc.
on our behalf since they have the in-house legal resources and insurance, etc.
in place. Perhaps finding an existing organization with similar goals to take
us under for fundraising activities, etc. might be an option.

Arturo,
This is the second time that I have noticed mentioning of consideration of
organizing a non-profit corporation around Nuestros Ranchos and I
"passed"
on the subject the previous time because I didn't think it was worthwhile
for the then apparent functions/activities of this group.
I have personally organized (or had significant responsibilities in the
organization or restructuring of) probably around 100 nonprofit
corporations in California. Most of them were quite small --- like youth
groups ala soccer/Pop Warner/ Little League/etc, --- where it was deemed
advisable because of the significant exposures to unwarranted liabilities
to volunteers and other program participants, and because of its advantages
when soliciting donations from businesses and the general public . About a
dozen of these activities were for much larger corporations, like community
clinics, community and economic development organizations, scientific
research groups, and a major children's hospital.
Except for the larger organizations, these tasks were done completely on a
pro bono basis.
I mention this as background for my continued opinion that, as I visualize
them, Nuestros Ranchos prospective activities and programs do not expose it
to foreseeable liabilities or require soliciting and management of
significant amounts of funds, and therefore, I consider forming and
operating Nuestros Ranchos as a corporation is tantamount to buying and
operating a pneumatic jackhammer when only an occasional need for a shovel
is necessary.
In any event, I am willing to discuss the activities that you envision this
prospective nonprofit corporation would undertake and, if appropriate,
participate at no cost in your demonstrated good efforts.

> Joseph Puentes and I had dinner tonight with and he presented me with a
large number of letters from Nuestros Ranchos members expressing their
gratitude for my work on the site, many of which included monetary
contributions. I am extremely moved and grateful at members' generosity
and throughtfulness. I discussed with Joseph that I could not accept the
money, but that I would be willing to take the money and use it as the seed
money to incorporate Nuestros Ranchos as a nonprofit so as to take it to
the next level.
I have been on the Boards of a number of nonprofits and understand the work
involved, but I think this group has been blessed with many volunteers and
as long as we continue to have such involvement and keep our goals modest,
we will inevitably succeed.
Please let me know if you would like to take part in this process. I am
thinking it would be best to incorporate in Texas or California where we
have the largest membership as having a resident in the state of
incorporation is a requirement.

teniendo esa participación y mantengamos nuestros objetivos modestos,

I'm in California and would be willing to help. I think the concept is sound, for covering site fees alone if nothing else.
Previously the only way that you could search the site was by being a member and being logged in. We have now implemented a limited search function for visitors to the site who are not logged in.
Hey guys !
This new feature sounds great ! Now , it´s up to the folks out there to use it and benifit from it .

The search function is through Google so it only shows results for the "public" areas of the site, basically the forums.

> If you would like to get more complete search results, the full search function is still available when you are logged in. You will notice that the search field and button change and that you get much fuller results when you use the site search function. Please let us know what you think.

Excel would be a great format for me to work with. However, I am not sure about Cousins in Google.
It looks as if everyone probably knows much more than me technically how to do this. My only concern is that listing emails as a reference for contact might not be a good idea. Since it will only be members linked, just their name probably would be fine. Then if another member want to contact them, they could do so through this site.
Keeping a database of everyone's genealogies and linking them up would be a lot of work, unless related members would submit GEDCOMS to us and then the GEDCOM was linked accordingly. The only problem with that, is I think many members have not submitted GEDCOMS. The link is already there, though and we could just submit the collection to GEDCOMS and call it Master GEDCOM for "whatever family line" or something along that line. I think it would be a monster of a GEDCOM though in some cases. Anyone who does not have genealogy software, would have to submit their lines in a Word or Excel doc and they would have to be copied and pasted into the master database by hand. Maybe even better, we could put a form out here under the files tab, so the person updating the genealogy software would not have to deal with numerous different genealogy styles.
Then in addition to the Master GEDCOM, keep a simple list on WORD, saying so and so is related to so and so, they are 2nd cousins with a common ancestor of " ", please see Master GEDCOM for "whatever family line"
What does everyone think? Would something like this work?

Joseph,
I would be glad to help out as a tutor!

Joseph, I am good with databases. I am happy to volunteer if you still need help.
I wonder if we should all join one of those collaborative tree sites like Geni (which I personally use for my family, but might not best for our group until they support source citation). It would give us a flash tree that can be navigated, and would calculate our relationships to each other. Also, most of them support gedcom upload.

Hi All,
I'm looking for two or possibly three volunteers to put together a
database of sorts on all the members of the group that have made a
family connection with each other. This list would give the persons
names, their email address, their location of connection and then the
details of how the connection was made.
I believe my cousin Angie Godina already started such a list but I
believe that would only be a start.

I am good at data entry and know a little about databases. As long as I am not in charge, I would volunteer for the tedious part. Let me know.

PS: this is the first time I have logged to the new site. Great Job!! Just lovely.
While reading the groups postings regarding confirmation records. I have read many in Aguascalientes, from 1620 to 1823. There was no set age limit.
I was at first surprised to find that the sister of one of my ancestors was confirmed when she was about 27 years old and 9 years after she got married. Given that confirmations require the presence of the bishop and that he had to come from Guadalajara, its not difficult to imagine how spaced these visits may have been.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Confirmation records are a must for research
While reading the groups postings regarding confirmation records. I have read many in Aguascalientes, from 1620 to 1823. There was no set age limit. It just depended on when the bishop made his rounds. I have even seen one person (espanol) confirmed at the age of 70 or so. I would have to say to not overlook them, same as burial records. The Teocaltiche confirmation records are not as clear as the Aguascalientes records....and there are a few microfilm rolls where the pages are not in order. Off the top of my head I can not recall the time period as my cousin is the Teocaltiche expert.
I have found many missing links using confirmation and burial records, when my line does not appear in baptism records or marriage records.

So it seems that the purpose of a confirmation back then was different. What was the purpose before the turn of the 20th century?

The modern dictionary doesn't help.
I assume it is a racial designation?

Stuart, et al.
There is a great publication, a lexicon of sorts, of Colonial Spanish Terms and their English meanings. It is available under the Files - Reference Materials section of the site:
Hi there Stuart ,
I believe that you´re looking for the definition in reference to what is written on some of the old actas ?
If you are then a coyote is an offspring of a mestizo and an indian .
Check out the castas in the albums section .

Stuart,
In Mexican slang it is a person contracted to get people across the US
border illegally. Originally a Nahuatl word Coyotl.

Hi all. If you have access to the marriage films of Nochistlan for the year 1733, I am looking for info onCayetano Ruiz and Ana Lugarda Mercado. Specifically, their ages and names of parents.
Dear fellow members,
In the files section, under reference material, I have posted a PDF guide to old Spanish writing (paleography) of the 12th through 17th centuries, Spain and her colonies.
One of the issues that has come up with the upgrade of the site is the lack
of organization in the Albums section of the site.
I have contacted a number of you regarding albums that are marked pri
Adrian, I just checked your file and see that I have some information on some of your lines. You share the Banuelos line with a few people in Nuestrosranchos. I have your Guerrero/Briceno line.
Arturo,
Have you got the ancestry of Bartolome de Luna y Tapia?

just last month I found Luna Y tapia in my family tree in Jalostotitlan/ Lagos. I have onlly that she was married to Jose Geronimo Ramirez. I have the dateof the marriage but have not had time to continue this investigation yet. can you give some info on the luna y tapia family.

Saludos R.A.
I have Tapia ancestors from Los Altos. In fact, my surname using Mexico's standards is actually Apodaca Tapia. I found some interesting information about the "Luna y Tapia" surname in Los Altos, particularly in the area of Lagos de Moreno. I looked for the info on the Lagos website where I previously found it, but was unable to locate it. I posted a message a long time ago in this group and I'll paste it here. I'm sure you'll be interested. This is my message back in 2005:
Hello.
I want to share what I recently found and check if anybody is
related to these ancestors. A couple days ago, I finally checked the
marriage record of my ancestors from Los Altos.
My 2nd greatgrandfather Juan Tapia married my 2nd greatgrandmother
Bibiana Martinez in Lagos de Moreno on February 5, 1879. Juan's
parents were Atanacio Tapia and Secundina Olivares. Bibiana's
parents were Juan Martinez and Matiana Lopez. Before reading this
document I just knew that my Tapia ancestros were from "somewhere in
Los Altos", according to my grandmother. She did not remember where
were they from. Now, I know that they were from a rancho near Lagos
called Cañada de Ricos. Is anybody familiar with this name? I
checked the Jalisco census on the files area and found out that the
population in that place is currently less than 100. Well, while
surfing the web, using google, I found something very interesting
about this rancho. On the Lagos de Moreno official website, I
discovered these two entries:
I wonder if it is all a coincidence that my TAPIA ancestors are from
Cañada de Ricos, a village founded by an otomi cacique named
Cristobal de Luna y TAPIA in 1686. Could this individual be my
gggggggreatgrandfather? Well, I still need to research 200 years of
Tapia history in order to find a possible connection, but it is
quite exciting just to imagine that I possibly found the name and
native tribe of one of my family lines.
Saludos.
Steve

Hector:
I am sorry that it took me so long to answer your question about Bartholome de Luna y Tapia's ancestors. I am not certain about this as I do not have definitive documentation, but I am pretty certain that Bartholome's parents were:
Francisco DE LUNA and Maria DE TAPIA
and he had at least two siblings:
Luis LUNA, n. 1624
Ygnacio LUNA TAPIA
The combination of surnames and time period and location, as well as the fact that the marriage dispensation said that his wife was his third cousin, militates toward this being the same person. That would mean that Francisco DE LUNA and Hernando DE HARO were second cousins, so Maria DE HARO Y SAUCEDO and Francisco LUNA's father? had a pair of shared grandparents who were most likely Pedro BOBADILLA and Maria DE SAUCEDO, for whom Hernando DE HARO's mother was named.
Jose Aguayo is there a conection here? Iam not real good with that side of the family Cecilia
