GONZALO GOMEZ + RUELAS Y SOTOMAYOR

Hola primos y primas,

I have this person in my lines (various times), and I’ve been racking my brains on him for the last couple of years. I think I’ve finally accumulated enough information to formulate a theory (albeit a very loose theory), which I’d like to air-out here, for review and discussion.

These are the 3 documents I will be referencing and dissecting:

I. IM: Juan Antonio Gaitan and Maria Manuela Muñoz, 15 Jun 1748, San Matias, Pinos
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-BPDG-3?mode=g&i=572&wc=3PS…
II. Dispensa: Nicolas de Castañeda and Maria Gomez, 9 Jun 1712, San Matias, Pinos
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-XW39-LV?mode=g&i=489&wc=3J…
III. Dispensa: Nicolas Alonso and Petra Delgadillo, 02 Apr 1723, Teocaltiche, Jal.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6YLN-2?mode=g&i=5&wc=3J44-…

I. IM: JUAN ANTONIO GAITAN & MARIA MANUELA MUÑOZ 15 Jun 1748, San Matias, Pinos

These are my g5's, Juan Antonio Gaitan-Delgado and Maria Manuela Muñoz-Gomez. Upon first reading this IM, I was blown away, because I learned that the pretensos were 4th-cousins, and the ecclesiastical authority (bless their eternal souls!) thought it was important enough to mention. They even give a tree, going back an unbelievable 4 generations:

Gonzalo Gomez de Ruelas-1-Juan Gomez de Ruelas
Maria Gomez de Ruelas-2-Blas Gomez de Ruelas
Miguel Gaitan-3-Nicolas Gomez de Sotomayor
Francisco Xavier Gaytan-4-Maria Dolores Gomez
Juan Antonio Gaitan-5-Maria Manuela Muñoz

Testigo #1 is grandfather of the bride, Nicolas Gomez de Sotomayor, age 66 (ca. 1682, Zacatecas, Zac), owner if Santa Rita, and Testigo # 2 is father of the groom, Francisco Xavier Gaitan (b. 1691, Irapuato, Gto), silver miner. I'm not convinced their genealogy is accurate, due to the number of years and generations involved, and the ages of the testigos (their info is likely 2nd-hand).

GONZALO GOMEZ

I’ve been unable to find anything on Gonzalo Gomez de Ruelas, but I have located his daughter, Maria de las Ruelas aka Maria Blanca. She married Joseph Gaitan-Castañeda, of SLP, some time between Oct 1649 and 01 Sep 1653, when they first appear together as padrinos, in Villa de Reyes, SLP. They would baptize 5 children in Sagrario SLP, between 1654-1665, and then move to Charcas, SLP, around 1670. They both died and were buried in Sagrario SLP. I still haven’t located their marriage records, so I don’t know where she’s from. They are the parents of Miguel Gaitan cc Antonia Arias de Bedoya, who arrived in Sierra de Pinos 1706-1708.

JUAN GOMEZ NIETO

I managed to track Juan Gomez de Ruelas back to Santa Fe, Gto; he was married to Teresa Guerrero aka Maria Teresa Martin/ez, and they baptized a number of children in different parts of Guanajuato, from 1654-1670. He died by 1683. On the baptism record for their first child, Juan Gomez is listed as "Juan Gomez Nieto." They might also be Juan Nieto and Maria Paredes aka Maria Mendoza, who baptized 2 sons in Nstra Sra de Gto, but I still haven't seen "Paredes" nor "Mendoza" anywhere else, so they're tentative. There was also a Juan Gomez Nieto and Teresa Pacheco whose daughter, Maria Gomez, married Juan Lopes de Cardenas 4 Aug 1669 in Sta Catalina Martir, DF. Also tentative (their timeline does allow all 3 dates).

GOMEZ DE RUELAS Y SOTOMAYOR

Juan Gomez and Teresa Guerrero are the progenitors of the "Gomez de Ruelas" and "Gomez de Sotomayor" surnames in Sierra de Pinos. Descendants also used "Gomez de Ruelas y Sotomayor," and various combinations of the 3 component surnames. Of their 7 confirmed children, most would migrate to Pinos, the first arriving in 1689; one branch settled on Guadalupe de los Pozos, another on Santa Rita, and another on Bocas, near Ojuelos. One daughter, Matiana Gomez de Ruelas (b. 12 Mar 1670, Nstra Sra de Gto), was married to Nicolas de Carrion. Note: "Gomez de Sotomayor" is also a dynastic surname originating in Spain, and appearing in other parts of Nueva Galicia. I don't know if there is a link.

II. DISPENSA: NICOLAS ALONSO & PETRA DELGADILLO 02 Apr 1723, Teocaltiche, Jal.

This one caught me eye, because the names “Gonzalo Gomez” and “Maria Blanca Gomez” appear, which can't be a coincidence - there must be a link between these 2 FGs. This dispensa has been referenced in other NR threads, and Don Jaime Holcombe cites it in his “Varias Cartas” (p 76).

A tree is given (I’ll include spouses' names):

Gonzalo Gomez-1-Maria de Islas y Moctezuma
(Augustina de Ruelas) (Andres Martinez de Sotomayor)
Antonio Gomez Garcia-2-Margarita de Sotomayor
(Francisca Flores de la Torres) (Joseph de Leon)
Maria Blanca Gomez-3-Rosa Manuela de Leon
(Pedro Alonso de los Hinojos) (Pedro Delgadillo)
Nicolas Alonso-4-Petra Delgadillo

Most read this as, Gonzalo Gomez and Maria de Islas are siblings, hence, Gonzalo Gomez is a son of Benito de la Isla-Lavezaris, who would be the tronco. I don’t agree with this interpretation.

We’ve all read enough of these old declarations, to know that the word “hermano” was regularly used for “cuñado.” Also, a spouse's name was used, if the relevant ancestor's name is forgotten. So one must always look into the possibility that the relationship is through the spouses, rather than through those named. In this case, it is already verified that Augustina de las Ruelas and Andres Martinez de Sotomayor are siblings, legitimate children of Andres Martin Camacho and Maria de Ruelas, who are the tronco of this tree, not Benito de la Isla. There is no mention of the pretensos descending "de dos lineas iguales," so the parentesco is likely only through the Martinez de Sotomayor. Added to that is fact that nowhere amongst the known descendants of Benito de la Isla, does the name "Gomez" appear, and nowhere amongst the known descendants of Gonzalo Gomez, does the name "Isla" appear (as far as I know). It's possible, but it's just not probable. That is my opinion. Gonzalo Gomez is not the brother of Maria de Islas nor the son of Benito de la Isla.

This opens the possibility that this Gonzalo Gomez is our man, and that he and his wife, Augustina de las Ruelas, are the progenitors of the [Gomez] + [Ruelas y Sotomayor] surname. From her timeline, Maria Blanca de Ruelas, cc Joseph Gaitan, could very well have been their daughter (their first child was baptized in 1654). But that doesn't explain why his brother, Juan Gomez, also uses the Ruelas y Sotomayor surname - unless, the genealogy given in the 1748 IM was incorrect: a generation lost, a mistaken relationship, a wrong name, surnames added (remember, it was written 100 years after the fact, by witnesses who had no contact with the earlier generations). Juan Gomez's first son was baptized in 1654, so he was a contemporary of Maria Blanca, and could be her brother. What if he was? Here's a revised tree:

(Tronco: Gonzalo Gomez cc Augustina de Ruelas)
Maria Blanca de Ruelas-1-Juan Gomez de Ruelas
Miguel Gaitan-2-Blas Gomez de Ruelas
Francisco Xavier Gaytan-3-Nicolas Gomez de Sotomayor
Juan Antonio Gaitan-4-Maria Dolores Gomez
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -5-Maria Manuela Muñoz

This works better, as far as the timeline. The pretensos would be at 4/5 and might've required a dispensa. Let's work with this model.

III. DISPENSA: NICOLAS DE CASTAÑEDA & MARIA GOMEZ 9 Jun 1712, San Matias, Pinos

Nicolas de Castañeda was son of Antonio Castañeda and Tomasa Carrion; Maria Gomez was daughter of Mathias Gomez de Sotomayor and Ysabel Ruiz de Villaseñor, and granddaughter of Juan Gomez Nieto.

They shared consanguinity in 2 lines, but we're only interested in the Nieto/Sotomayor link here.

The dispensa says they were at 4o grado, because the bride is great-granddaughter of Blas Nieto, who was brother of Jacinta de Sotomayor, who was great-grandmother of the groom. The genealogy isn’t explained, but it would look like this:

Jacinta de Sotomayor-1-Blas Nieto
(Pedro de Castañeda) ( Unknown)
Nicolas de Castañeda-2-Juan Gomez Nieto
(Ana de Vargas) (Maria Teresa Martinez Guerrero)
Antonio de Castañeda-3-Matias Gomez de Sotomayor
(Tomasa de Carrion) (Ysabel Ruiz de Villaseñor)
Nicolas de Castañeda-4-Maria Gomez Ruiz

This one has stumped many. The Castañeda line is well-documented, but no one has managed to establish the genealogy of Jacinta de Sotomayor. And Blas Nieto just drops off the map. We do see "Nieto" appear as one of Juan Gomez's surnames, who also had a son named, "Blas." So Blas Nieto is his ancestor. I just don't know if he's in the right place.

Again, we might be looking at this genealogy wrong, and this might be another case of "hermano=cuñado”: Jacinta de Sotomayor and Blas Nieto can easily be in-laws, rather than siblings, and the relationship is through his wife, who a sister of Jacinta de Sotomayor.

But, we've already decided that Juan Gomez Nieto was the son of Gonzalo Gomez and Augustina de Ruelas: is Blas Nieto aka Gonzalo Gomez? Not necessarily, he might be in the wrong place, as I mentioned, he might be Gonzalo's father (I've really grown a distrust for testigos, haven't I! bear with me). Let's redo the genealogy in this dispensa, using the Gonzalo Gomez model, and using his spouse's name:

Jacinta de Sotomayor-1-Agustina de las Ruelas
Nicolas de Castañeda-2-Juan Gomez Nieto
Antonio de Castañeda-3-Matias Gomez de Sotomayor
Nicolas de Castañeda-4-Maria Gomez Ruiz

This would establish Jacinta de Sotomayor as a daughter of Andres Martin and Maria de Ruelas.

This is conjecture. Take it. Throw it into your processors and please share what comes out.

Gracias y Saludos!

Research Digest, Vol 133, Issue 7

I'm interested in getting more information about the Gutierrez/
Monroy/Cortes connection, too....My family is Gutierrez & Almaraz and I
understand that the Almaraz family may be associated with the Cortes &
Monroy lineage....Does anyone have further information on that? The
Gutierrez family was from Arandas, Mexico and the Almaraz family was from
Mier....Are they connected to the Monroy/Cortes families? Many thanks for
your help.

Pedro tuvo varios hijos naturales o adoptados…

Pedro Gutierrez (Tronco)
Maria Gutierre – hermana de – Miguel Gutierrez
[+Francisco de Robalcaba] [+Catharina Delgadillo]
Nicolas de Robalcaba -primos hermanos- Gertrudis Gutierrez
[+Petrona de Luna] [+Alejo de Placencia]
Francisco de Robalcaba -primos segundos- Joachin de Placencia
[+Maria Francisca Sanchez] [+Manuela Alvares de la Cruz]
Pablo Jose (pretenso) – Maria Leonor (pretensa)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-653F-4P?mode=g&i=667&wc=3J…

Pedro Gutierrez (tronco)
Josef Gutierrez – hermanos- Maria Gutierrez
[+Mariana Delgadillo] [+Francisco de Robalcaba
Salvador Gutierrez - primos hermanos- Nicolas Robalcaba
[+Catharina de Vargas] [+Petrona de Luna]
Rafael Angel Gutierrez – primos segundos- Francisco Robalcaba
[+Michaela Mercado] [+M Francisca Guillen (Sanchez)]
Rafael (pretenso) – Maria Ygnacia (pretensa)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-XW3K-Y?mode=g&i=439&wc=3J4…

Tronco (no info)
Pedro Gutierrez (hermano) Melchor Gonzales
[+????????] [+Beatriz Gonzales de Robalcaba]
Antonio (pretenso)-primos hermanos –Melchor Gonzales
- Diego Gonzales

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6Y5G-7?mode=g&i=368&wc=3J4…

Matrimonio de Jose Gutierrez y Josepha Lozano (Tepatitlan, 10 May 1751)
Pedro Gutierrez – hermano natural- Maria de Hermosillo
[+???????] [+Francisco Casillas y Cabrera]
Joseph Gutierrez – primos hermanos- Juana Casillas
[+Mariana Delgadillo]
Salvador Gutierrez – primos segundos – Phelipe Lozano
[+Catharina de Bargas] [+Feliciana de Acebes]
Joseph Gutierrez (pretenso) – primos terceros- Josepha Lozano (pretensa)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-668W-V?mode=g&i=127&cc=187…

Missing the boat

Hello fellow members,

I missed the boat on PAF format being discontinued. All my information is in that format. Anyone have any suggestions on safely converting to GEDCOM? I hesitate because I don't want to lose my info. We are talking about 5 years of going through un-indexed records. Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Coronado y Campa y Cos

In this Matrimonio de Ypina (Ypinas have a history with several Coronados names unknown) he reveals to son of Don Antonio de Campa y Cos that he had an affair with a relative of his that he did not find out until later it was his relative and had to reveal this to him. The Son of Campa y Cos states that his father had a natural child named Juana whose mother was a Mulata de Fresnillo. Juana de la Campa had a child named Gertrudis who was with Ypino and is therefore cousin to his pretensa.

I believe this is the family

Juana de la Campa
Deceased • K8TL-KH8 (Familysearch.org)
Married to Marcelo Flores Coronado

Patrons of Santa Maria del Rio, San Luis Potosi, Mex.

I have not been successful in locating any information about the Patrons outside of what I have found in their records. They have been around the Nueva Galacia area since the 1640's and it appears they were in Guanajuato and possibly Mexico City. They were not mentioned in Diccionario Biografico de Antiguos Pobladores de San Luis Potosi by Rafael Morales Bocardo or any other record I know how to locate. Although, I did see on Wikitree Danny Alonso having some connection with the Padons. I have included those connections for him.

Where would I look for their possible Testaments?

It seems Sebastian Padron has a brother named Bartholome Padron (abt 1633) married to Maria del Castillo with some of their children born Guanajuato, Santa Maria del Rio and Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosi both of those mentioned possibly.

1. Sebastian Padron (abt. 1635) m. Francisca Gonzales (they could’ve married in Guanajuato – san diego de la Union, San Felipe, or Acambaro, or in Santa Maria del Rio, San Luis Potosi, or Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosi, or even Pinos, Zacatecas. They have, it seems, history in all of those locations but mostly in Santa Maria del Rio. They Married into the Del Castillo, Gonsales, and Torres (Thorres del Rancho de Joseph Thorres)

2. Marcos Padron (abt. 1665) 1st m: Agustina Gutierres 4 December 1687
2nd m: Michaela Martines Espindola 28 Jun 1706

3. Lucas Antonio Padron m: Phelipa Joepha de Torres 10 February 1709

4. Ma. Anta. Gertrudis Padron Baptized 2 Feb 1733 1st m: Roque Francisco Hernandes 5 Jan 1749
2nd m: Joseph Antonio Gonzales 15 Jan 1766

Subject: Somos Primos "We are cousins." February 2017

http://www.somosprimos.com/sp2017/spfeb17/spfeb17.htm

Dear family, primos and friends:

Hope you are greeting the new year with hope and peace. I keep learning new things which brightens my days. The world is such a miracle of balance, with extremes in every direction. We feel separate from one another and yet when you trace your family history, you see how you must be related on some level with everyone.
Under the DNA section, you'll find a mathematical graph of ancestry. If you take your pedigree back to the 1400s, you have 1,073,741,825 great, great, great, great, great grandparents; however, there were only 450,000,000, and you go back to two.

I had assumed in California, everyone knew a little Spanish and understood that the translation of Somos Primos meant, we are cousins.
I was surprised recently when a third person told me that they thought Somos Primos was saying . . . we were FIRST, which could be a little offensive.

Let suggest when you invite non-Spanish speakers to visit Somos Primos, you explain, we are not saying we are number one, or first, instead we are saying we are cousins, related, connected.

We may be diverse and visually different, but we are connected, sharing this very unique earth. Hopefully we can each make the world a little bit better, within our sphere of influence.

Among the photos are eleven photos, with only the date and location, for identification. Those are from a collection of tinted photochromes from the dawn of the 19th century. These were published by the Detroit Photographic firm (which no longer exists), their firm's photographers traveled the country snapping the sights of North America to be printed on postcards and sold to the public. These photos were among the Beinecke rare books and manuscript library. The Photo collection was
sent by Eva Booher EVABOOHER@aol.com

God bless America, may we continue to be a light to the world.

Help with translation

Hello everyone, I've been away from my research for a few years and have recently started in again. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the translation on the link I've included. I have gotten out of practice in these three years I've been inactive. My ancestor, Refugio Berumen on the right page was always referred to as "hija natural ". This is the only document that named her father as Cayetano Gonzales, but I would have expected "hija ilgitima", instead it's another word that I've not seen before and can't quite make out. If anyone is familiar with it please let me know.

I hope this is the right place to introduce myself. I am here because of my children and grandchildren, descendants of the Bernals from Aguascalientes. Most of the ancestors are from Asientos, but other Ranchos (I think they're ranchos) are the following: Jaltomate, Santa Rita, Chalchihuites, San Jose de Garcia, Rincón de Romos, Rancho La Carreta, Tepesala, and Sierra de Pinos. The information about the family can be found here: http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/jking2000

On a personal note, I lived in Mexico for 20 years (12 in México, DF, and 8 in Xalapa, Veracruz) where I played with several of the symphony orchestras. I am living in Canada since 1986. My children were both born in Mexico City. My son and his 3 boys live in Australia, and my daughter, here in Canada, with her son and daughter. We all adore Mexico and return whenever we can.

I hope to find out more about the Ranchos, of course. I've started reading....

Por cierto, hablo español. Me da gusto que me hayan acceptado a este grupo. Muchas gracias! Thank you!

Felipe Lopez-Francisca Gonzalez

Gracias.

Mazapil Zacatecas

I'm asking for help from my fellow Rancheros. I have family line to Joseph Manuel Alvarado and Perfecto Alvarado. Both have daughters one named Maria Dionisia Alvarado the other Maria Daria Alvarado. I found birth and marriage records that are so confusing and seem to point to possibly Joseph Manuel and Perfecto are the same person. However, documents show how the scribes constantly crossed reference the wrong Daria Alvarado or Dionisia Alvarado. They both married a Tello who were cousins.

Can someone help me confirm if Daria/Dionisia may have married the other cousin once the husband passed away. I will need to send the records for your review to help establish a definite conclusion and solve the confusion. I will be glad to communicate via personal email to better submit the records.

Thanks.

Yolie

I have searched for the dispensa that would give Juana Gertrudis age but I did not see find it. Her brothers found are andres Gomes b. 18 FEB 1704 Pinos, and Thoribio Gomes 21 MAY 1705, Pinos. Her son Esiderio b. 1725 is 7 years before the Dispensa which is probably why they had to get a Dispensa.

Does anyone know where else to look for the dispensa? Perhaps someone has or knows of this family and possibly know if Christobal Gomes is part of the Gomes Martin, Ruelas de Sotomaior family and possibly know who Dona Maria Rodriguez is? There are a lot of Rodriguez interwoven in this family as well as Delgado. Thanks, Simona

MAGDALENO: ¿Magdaleno de Mendoza? o ¿Mejia Magdaleno?

(to follow in English)

http://genealogias.wordpress.com/2007/06/28/genealogiaorgmx-12530-apell…

http://books.google.com/books?id=Jlefq-NJKq0C&pg=PA384&lpg=PA384&dq=ger…

Regidor Geronimo Magdaleno y Maria Cecilia Patiño bautizaron a:
Elvira Magdalena, b. 18 May 1603, Morelia.
Maria Magdaleno, b. 22 Dec 1607, Morelia.

Juan Salceda Andrade y Francisca Magdaleno bautizaron a Joseph, 20 May 1620, Morelia.

Gracias antemano,
Manny Diez Hermosillo

I have Diego Magdaleno married to Mariana de Aguirre in my lines.

According to the genealogy given in this blog, Diego Magdaleno is the son of Diego Magdaleno and Lorenza de Ovalle; Diego Magdaleno I is son of Geronimo Mejia Magdaleno (Regidor de Valladolid, Mich) and Isabel de Soria; Geronimo Mejia Magdaleno was born in 1554 in Tordesillas, Castilla, son of Alonso Mejia and Francisca Magdaleno Escudero. Geronimo and Isabel passed to Indies in 1583, accompanied by their daughter, Francisca Mejia Magdaleno and her husband Juan Salceda Andrade. They lived in Valladolid, Michoacan:
Genealogia de Mexico 28 Jun 2007
http://genealogias.wordpress.com/2007/06/28/genealogiaorgmx-12530-apell…

Guillermo Lohmann Villena gives the same genealogy in his “Los Americanos en los ordenes nobliliarias Tomo I” (SALCEDA, Jeronimo Magdaleno de, 452, p. 384)
http://books.google.com/books?id=Jlefq-NJKq0C&pg=PA384&lpg=PA384&dq=ger…

This genealogy is based on the Prueba de Nobleza/Limpieza de Sangre of a grandson of Geronimo Magdaleno, Capitan Geronimo Magdaleno Salceda y Mejia, son of Juan Salceda Andrade and Francisca Magdaleno. The Proof was conducted in Spain in 1651, and not in Valladolid Mich:

ES.28079.AHN/1.-2.-1.6.4//OM-CABALLEROS_SANTIAGO,Exp.7451
Salceda y Mejía, Jerónimo Magdaleno de
1651

I have doubts about this genealogy; in none of the other documents found at PARES AGIS, regarding the Magdaleno of Valladolid during this time period, is there mention of the compound surname "Mejia Magdaleno; instead, we find "Magdaleno de Mendoza."

And more, on the Confirmacion de Oficio of Geronimo Magdaleno, when he was named Regidor of Valladolid in 1602, it says his father was FRANCISCO MAGDALENO, who was married to Elvira de Mendoza:

ES.41091.AGI/10.5.11.556//CONTRATACION,961,N.16
Bienes de difuntos: Elvira de Mendoza
1635

There's more: when looking through the archives of Morelia, Mich, for the years 1594-1621, Isabel de Soria does not appear as the wife of Geronimo Magdaleno, instead, we find Maria Cecilia de Patiño (daughter of Capitan Francisco Patiño de Herrera). Nor do the surnames "Escudero" or "Soria" appear in any of the Magdaleno lines in Valladolid, as it was the norm to give at least one heir a lost maternal surname.

Is it possible there were two Regidor Geronimo Magdaleno's, who both had daughters named Francisca married to Juan Salceda Andrade? According to what I've cited, there was only one, and hd was the son of Francisco Magdaleno and Elvira de Mendoza, and he was married to Maria Cecilia Patiño (although possible with Isabel de Soria in 1o), and that the genealogy given in the Prueba of 1651 is wrong or at least skips a generation: the witnesses were wrong, or they lied.

Look, according to the Prueba of 1651, the tree looks like this:
I. Alonso Mejia casado con Francisca Magdaleno Escudero (Castro Verde del Campo, Zamora)
II. Geronimo Mejia Magdaleno casado con Isabel de Soria (b. 1556, Tordesillas)
III. Francisca Mejia Magdaleno casada con Juan Salceda Andrade (passed to Indies 1583, already married, when her mother was only 23?).
IV. Geronimo Magdaleno Salceda y Mejia (age 27-30 in 1651:b. 1621-1624)

And from my research, my sources being PARES-AGIS, FamilySearch, and "Haciendas de tierra y agua de la antigua cienega de Chapala" by Heriberto Moreno Garcia, it looks like this:
II. Geronimo Magdaleno de Mendoza casado con Maria Cecilia Patino. En Mexico hacia 1590 (puede ser su 2o m.).
III. Francisca Magdaleno de Mendoza casada con Juan Salceda Andrade (en Mexico, ca 1619)
IV. Geronimo Magdaleno Salceda y Mejia (age 27-30 in 1651:b. 1621-1624)

The Prueba of 1651 skips a generation, and there's no way Juan Salceda and Francisca Magdaleno were married before 1583, when their son Nicolas Salcedo was only 16 when he was named Regidor in 1658 (b. 1641-2).

To establish a timeline and orient ourselves:

Geronimo Magdaleno y Maria Cecilia Patiño baptized:
Elvira Magdalena, b. 18 May 1603, Morelia.
Maria Magdaleno, b. 22 Dec 1607, Morelia.

Their names, along with those of Francisco Magdaleno and Elvira de Mendoza, are seen frequently in the baptisms and marriages in Morelia between 1597 & 1611, as padrinos or testigos.

Juan Salceda Andrade and Francisca Magdaleno baptized Josepha, 20 May 1620, Morelia.

Licenciado Joseph Magdaleno de Mendoza, was beneficiado of the partido de Juchitlan when he died 15 Jun 1624, in Valladolid. He was a bachiller when he baptized a child named Andrea, 07 Dic 1600, her padrinos Francisco Magdaleno y Beatriz de Sosa. For this reason, I have him as a son of Francisco & Elvira.

Licenciado Gonzalo Magdaleno de Mendoza was beneficiado de Aguacana in Abr 1624 and May 1625. He was padrino for Joachin, hijo de padres no concocidos, 19 Feb 1607, madrina Doña Geronima de Mendoza. They could be children of Francisco Magdaleno and Elvira de Mendoza, or she Elvira;s sister.

Does anybody have any documentation that would support the Mejia Magdaleno genealogy? Looking for documentation (preferably primary source: baptism, marriage or death - and from Mexico!), that shows:
Geronimo Magdaleno married to Isabel de Soria.
Diego Magdaleno married Lorenza de Ovalle.
That Diego Magdaleno, married to Mariana de Aguirre, is the son of Diego Magdaleno and Lorenza de Ovalle

According to Moreno Garcia in "Haciendas de tierra y agua...," Geronimo Magdaleno de Mendoza had a brother, Diego Magdaleno de Mendoza, jinete y hacendado, who had two sons: Juan de Lievana y Diego Magdaleno, both were clerics. He cites "Familias y casa de la vieja Valladolid," by Gabriel Ibarrola Arriaga. Would anyone have access to a copy?

Thank you in advance,
Manny Diez Hermosillo

Baptism Record

There was a question on another genealogy site regarding a baptism record. In the margin under the child's name was, C.A. The record read: Ynft ciud. Agr. I've never seen wording like this before-Ynfante Ciudadano Agraciado(?) In other records people were listed as C.d E- Ciudadano del Estado? I don't know where the record in from but still would like your input. Thanks.
