founding families of lagos de moreno--anyone know who they are?

Hello-

Does anyone have a list of the first fammilies which settled in Lagos de Moren with the help of Hernán Gallegos? I have heard sources say 63 or 73 families and wanted to know if anyone had a definite list or the resource of the actual grant for the villa.

I have a common ancestor as many of us here do of Polonia Torres who was allegedly bor n abt. 1569 in Lagos de Moreno and the town was founded in 1563 so it would stand to reason that she it most likely a child of the original families.

Thanks,

I need help with confusing marriage record for de la Torre-Romero

Thank you all for your help and insights concerning the marriage record for Jose de la Torre and Maria Elena Romero. I agree the record must be in error regarding Dionicio Martin and Paula Saldana. Jose's parents are Antonio de la Torre and Carmen Padilla. No where else in either my Romero family nor my de la Torre family are Dionicio Martin and Paula Saldana mentioned. All the other records say his parents are Antonio de la Torre and Carmen Padilla or Maria del Carmen Padilla. I have yet to find Jose's birth record in Tepatitlan. I have no clue if he came from another city.

Please forgive my late response for all your help. Because I research alone and do not speak Spanish, my research is slow, so it took me a while to check out all the suggestions. Thank you again for all your help and suggestions.

Tal vez no sepan que existíamos.

Me he puesto a pensar si mis descendientes sabrán que existí.

permita saber mis intereses, gustos y aficiones, y aun mas mi estilo

corto plazo. El leerlo proporciona a menudo recuerdos gratos. Y así
tal vez no seamos olvidados.

Saludos a todos y espero sus comentarios.

Help deciphering Informacion matrimonial

Hi all:

I was hoping someone could take a look at the informacion matrimonial for my great grandfather's marriage to his first wife. Specifically, there's one word that I can't make out under the "Consentimento" part. I'm hoping someone on this listserve has come across similar language.

I hope to hear from someone soon...

Saludos,

Ricardo

For now the site is only in Spanish, but I’ll be translating it to English in the near future.

NGGS Conference in SoCal - was there a report about the conference?

I don't recall reading an after-conference report. I was looking forward to reading about it and maybe seeing pictures, especially since I was unable to attend.
If you attended the conference could you share your experiences and thoughts regarding the conference.
Mil gracias.

No son los mismos---General Digest, Vol 67, Issue 1

Always be inquisitive when told, "No son los mismos." I heard this when I began researching my three Gutierrez lines in Jalostotitlan & San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. I tied them all back to the same ancestor. My father told me the same thing when I began researching my Gomez line (same area), and kept running into others. I tied those in too. Now I'm researching my cousin's 2 Romo lines: one from Jalostotitlan (which I share as well) and the other which is suppose to be from San Luis Potosi--what a surprise, I'm researching his line to Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco which is a stone's throw from Jalostotitlan. We'll see...
I have found interesting facts by not giving up or taking others research as fact: documentation, documentation...

Sauceda,Robles,Rodriguez, Vasquez, Torres, Velasquez

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I am trying to find out more about my ancestors. I know my one of my great grandfather's was Angel Sauceda and I believe he was born in Juchipila, Zacatecas around 1905(he was 25 yrs old in the 1930 census). His wife was Angela Robles Calderon I don't know where she was born, according to the census she must have been born in 1912. They had 3 children together, Antonio Sauceda(my dad's father)born in San Juan De Los Arcos, Jalisco on June 13, 1930, Angel Sauceda and Guadalupe Sauceda also born in San Juan De Los Arcos. I know my great grandfather had another daughter from a previous marriage or relationship Maria Sauceda. My other great grandfather was Carlos Rodriguez Garcia he was born in Ahualulco Del Mercado, Jalisco, his parents were Timoteo Rodriguez and Estefana Garcia. His first wife was Catalina Rubio Vasquez she was born in Teuchitlan, Jalisco, her parents were Andres Vasquez and Clementina Rubio, I believe she died around 1948. They had about 11 children, Ramiro Rodriguez who past away as an infant, Maria De Jesus Rodriguez she past away on July 23, 2005(she was the mother ot the previous Bishop of San Juan De Los Lagos, currently the Bishop of Morelia, Michuacan). There was also Petronila Rodriguez who passed away in October 2002, Miguel Rodriguez died on 1/13/80, Ildelisa Rodriguez, Timoteo Rodriguez died 4/1/04, Esperanza Rodriguez passed away as a child, Feliciana Rodriguez died 2/8/97, Maria Magdalena Rodriguez(my dad's mother) born 6/5/1936 in Castro Urdiales, Jalisco, Ramiro Rodriguez died 2/5/00 and I believe there was also a little boy named Carlos Rodriguez who also died young. My Grandparents Antonio Sauceda & Maria Magdalena Rodriguez had a civil marriage ceremony on 6/13/52 in Tala, Jalisco and a church wedding on 7/12/52. They had 7 Children. Teresa Sauceda died as an infant/child, Raul Sauceda(my father) born 10/2/54 in San Juan De Los Arcos, Carlos Sauceda passed away as an infant, Carlos Sauceda, Angel Sauceda, Maricela Garcia, Sandra Luz Sauceda all from San Juan De Los Arcos.
I don't have a lot of information on my mothers side. My Grandfather's name is Marcelino Torres, his father is Tranquilino Torres his currently about 103 yrs old they both reside in La Capilla De Guadalupe, Jalisco. My Grandmother was Martha Velazquez, I think she was from El Cerro Gordo, Jalisco. She passed away on 8/28/98. They had 8 children together. A set of twins that passed away, another boy that passed away, Evangelina Torres(my mother) born 3/12/57 in La Capilla, passeda away 1/20/09 in Soquel, CA., Martha Catalina Torres, Pepe Torres(I think his name is Jose Luis), Carmen or Carmela Torres, Ana Filomena Torres all from La Capilla.
If anybody has any more information on my ancestors or are related to me in some way I would love to hear from you.

Land deeds, and Birth records...

In my family there are various stories of how ancestors had much land and cattle, and my grandfathers talk about their ancestors' land deeds on property (los papeles de los terrenos), or even sometimes on houses (papeles de la casa). I was wondering if one could acquire copies of these deeds, probably from the government building at the municipal seat?

And also in official birth records, not baptisms, parent's signatures are on them. Is there a way to get a copy of these too? I have been intrigued to know that my great-grandfather Fabián Castro signed his name on my grandfather's original birth record. How long ago were these goverment records required?

Thanks,
Valente.

Late nights

I read with such amusement the remarks made by fellow researchers on surprises, bewilderment, encouragement coming from their search. Some late, late nights I sit here with my head bobbing close to the keyboard and thinking "I am so tired and I have no clue where to go next" and all of a sudden there on the screen is something I was looking for or a lead as to where to look! That's when I can clearly hear my great-grandfather telling me, "Mijita, busca poquito mas, aqui estamos." I sure wake up quickly! You serious researchers know what I mean. Keep looking! The info is just around the corner!

Need Help with Marriage Record for Jph. Cayetano Garcia

Can someone please help me read the marriage record for Jph Cayetano Garcia to Anna Cleta Calzada that took place in Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco on October 5, 1791 (image 142).

I think it says he was from Santa Barbara (and Santa Maria?), and was the son of Nicolas Garcia and Maria de San Juan. I also think it says he was the widower of someone named Ortiz?

Anna Cleta was from San Juan, and her parents were Matheo Calzada and Maria Barbara de la [?].

Thank you/gracias,
