Ocotospa

Has anyone heard of a place called "Ocotospa"?
That is what I was able to understand from the writing, but I could be wrong.
Relatives are from Atenguillo, but couldn't locate this "Ocotospa".

The place was a.k.a. "Rincon de Ocotoxpa" or "San Nicolas de Ocotoxpa". That "Puesto" was in the "jurisdiccion" of "el pueblo de Cuquio" as can be seen in the christening record of Maria Casilda de Jesus christened on 09 April 1744. She was the sister of Don Andres Sanchez. The record is the last one of the page at the left hand side in the following image:

I hope the information above may be of some help.

Hello,

I need help. I'm trying to purchase the book HISTORIA DE TOTATICHE tomo II by Esteban Valdez Salazar. I already looked in Borderland Book store (they don't have it). Can anyone know where to find a copy of the book? Can anyone have the contact information of the author?

Any information would be greatly appreciated

According to www.Worldcat.org, the closest library to you that has a copy of "Historia de Totatiche" is the University of California, Irvine, library.

Esteban Valdez Salazar has some other books as well:
--Historia de la Parroquia de Totatiche : 250 aniversario
--Historia de Totatiche. II tomo, Títulos de tierra a los vasallos del rey (Nuestros antepasados) : documentos inéditos

I'm not sure if the second title ("II tomo") is actually what you are looking for, unfortunately, this is at the San Antonio public library.

There is also a book catalogued as "Historia de Totatiche : Jalisco, México" that is at the CSU-LA and UCLA libraries.

The University libraries shold have their catalogues online so you may be able to determine which of these is actually what you are looking for.

If you are not a student or alumni of any of these universities, you should check their policies for public access before going to the library.

Hi Daniel.

Jose Ricardo de Jesus Ortiz was christened the same year Maria Justa de Jesus Maldonado was christened (1834). Both families were living in the same place: "Arroyo Seco de Arriba".

The parents of Jose Ricardo are Jose Francisco Ortiz and Maria Juana Gonzalez. So Jose Ricardo is the brother of Maria Francisca Ortiz.

Their 4 grandparents are listed in the christening record of Jose Ricardo:

ἱππίατρος hippiatros.

Jesus, Guadalajara

Danny,

A couple of years ago I noticed that some indexed records incorrectly showed the parish church of Jesus Maria, Jalisco as Jesus, Guadalajara. I think this error may have been corrected recently and that those records now say Jesus Maria Pueblo, Jalisco, Mexico. Perhaps the couple you seek is in Jesus Maria Pueblo and not in Guadalajara.

Comment

Hello Danny.

In our time Jesús is a church in the city of Guadalajara.

Please see the following list:

The listed places are churches (or parishes) in the same city, (Except the first two: Arzobispado and Diócesis).

Can you tell who the couple you´re looking for is?. Perhaps somebody can help to find them.

Hello Danny.

The nearest parish to Jesus in the city of Guadalajara is San Miguel Espiritu Santo. it´s less than 1 mile away from Jesus.

You can see the exact locations in Google Maps searching for:

Jesus = Parroquia Dulce Nombre de Jesús, Calle Garibaldi, Jesús, Guadalajara, Jal.

San Miguel Espiritu Santo = Parroquia San Miguel Del Espíritu Santo, Avenida Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Zona Centro, Guadalajara, Jal.

Best of luck in your search.

Comment

Ruben,

thanks for the information. San Miguel Espiritu doesn't go back before the 1900s and that's part of the problem. im trying to find the nearest location with available non indexed records between 1850 to 1890.

Guadalajara records? Her name was Maria Lugarda Aguilar married to Antonio

Could you give me an idea as to where to look?

Hello Esther.

There is a christening record for Jose Rafael Lopez Aguilar in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico on 19 Apr 1833. Jose Rafael is the son of Antonio Lopez and Lugarda Aguilar.

So Antonio and Lugarda should have gotten married before 1833.

Comment

I do think I made a mistake with the years. Antonio Lopez was born in 1799
and Lugarda birth 1800-1815? Their children: Rafael Lopez Aguilar, 1833,
Tomas Lopez Aguilar, 1834, Simona or Simeona Lopez Aguilar, 1840; Maria
Teodocia and Jesus Lopez Aguilar mentioned somewhere else I don't know
where I kept those notes but they have birthdays the same year, 1837??

My grandfather used to say that his mother Guadalupe Velasco had come from
Arandas or Atotonilco but that is hearsay at this point.

Hi Ruben and Danny,

I have the same or similar question to Danny. I have a couple that baptized a child in Jesus, Guadalajara in the late 1800's and the parent and grandparents that are named do not appear in any other record, so they must've been married and baptized they're other children, of which there are several, in a nearby parish. My guess is that whatever nearby parish it is, is probably not within Guadalajara and also not indexed. The people I'm looking for are Sinforiano Garcia married to Donaciana Vejar and Leonardo Vasquez married to Susan Garcia. Both of these couples would probably have been born around 1850 and married around 1870.

Chris

Comment

Hi Chris.

Civil records starts from 1857. If there is a civil record for the birth of the baptized child, usually the record of birth states how old the parents are and the place(s) where they are from.

Comment

Hi Chris.

There is a record of birth of Miguel Vasquez (Rec. No. 2686):

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GPNB-VHM?i=461&wc=MGDG-HZ9%3A206555501%2C206589601&cc=1918187

The name of the maternal grandmother is Francisca Bejar (instead of Donaciana) according to the record.

I hope this may be of some help in your search.

Comment

Hi Ruben,
That record actually contradicts the baptism record where the madrina is named Francisca Bejar and the paternal grandmother is named Donaciana. I need to find a different record for a different child that will clarify which is correct. Either way, there’s no other record of baptized children or marriages for either the abuelos paternos or maternos.

Torres / Monreal

I am looking for 2 baptismal certificates for children on Roman Torres and Secundina Monreal. The family wound up in Aguascalientes, but these 2 certificates are from Cedral, San Luis Potosi.

Comment

Hi Daniel,

If you're trying to find the parents of Roman Torres and Secundina Monreal it's always easiest to go to the marriage first to see if the parents are named. If they're not named than look for the informacion matrimonial which usually is given about 30 days or less before the marriage. The IM shows that Roman Torres is 18 and the legitimate son of Cornelio Torres and Victoriana Olivares and Secundina Monreal is 15 and the legitimate daughter of Marcos Monreal and Prudencia Ramirez.

I noticed a lot of the films no longer match. I've come across at least 5 that don't match in the last few weeks so something has obviously changed at familysearch because they've always been right in the past. I would now look based on the years.

Thanks, Yes, I have the marriagel and various birth certificates from San Felipe. The problem is that San Felipe doesn't put any information, which is why I am very interested in finding the 2 from Cedral. I have come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the film number that was used. 707651 is not searchable - I think they used 707644 for 707651. But I still can't find them.

Comment

OK, I figured it out. Unfortunately, all of the records that say they are from Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Film 707644 are really from San Felipe, Guanajuato, film 644389. I found the two I was looking for. However, just like most of the records from San Felipe, they do not give names of abuelos.

I am looking for a transcription of a Will and Testament document that would
be an example of what was written in Spanish in the 1700's.

Hello Bob,

You can find partial transcriptions of testaments for the following residents of early colonial Aguascalientes.

Hope this is helpful.

Austin,

Thank you for posting these testaments. theyre very intersting. on this
thread of testaments you have Nicolas de Santos

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Santos-26

I was seeing if you knew of a connection to this other Nicolas de Santos
that I just added to the wikitree today. the family both uses the same
names of de Santos and de Bustos. His wife name de Bustos also uses the
name de santos too. here is the link to the other Nicolas de Santos

Hi Danny,
Sorry but I don't know how this Nicolas connects with the descendants of Nicolas de los Santos and Maria Diaz. I did see that in Juana's burial record it states that she is originally from Guanajuato. Perhaps the family lived in Guanajuato which could explain why Nicolas's burial record and Nicolasa's baptism record are not listed in the Aguascalientes records. If Juana uses both Bustos and Santos as her last name then perhaps Nicolas and Juana are related?

Hi Raul and welcome to Nuestros Ranchos.

I'm not familiar with this family but I believe that Alonso de Bustos that was married to Ana de Jerez (not Perez) is the same Alonso whose son capitan Francisco de Bustos was the first Marquis de San Clemente. A book by Ricardo Ortega y Pérez Gallardo titled "Historia genealógica de las familias más antiguas de México: Volumen 1" provides the history on this family. This book is available for free on Google Play.

In addition to the baptism record of Catalina Bustos that you found, I have the following records that include Alonso and Ana:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-KWZ1-H?mode=g&i=288&owc=co…

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-KWZ5-7?i=289&owc=collectio…

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-KWZ1-C?i=291&owc=collectio…

Not sure how or if our Nicolas de los Santos aka de Bustos is related to Alonso de Bustos and Ana de Jerez. Looking at Javier Sanchiz's Geneat tree, he has that Alonso and Isabel Arguello Jaso had an (illegitimate?) child named Juana who married Clement Munoz del Castillo. Perhaps our Nicolas de los Santos was an illegitimate son of Alonso?

Hasta pronto!

Danny and Austin,

D. Alonso de Bustos and Da. Ana de Jérez (aka. Da. Ana Pérez--she appears at least once) were married on 20 July 1616 in Santa María de los Lagos, they are my 10th great grandparents. This noble family is always of interest, as they are considered "un apellido fuerte" meaning that some branches that descend would often take Bustos and add it to the new name--it basically carried weight, but was not as heavy as Mendoza, as an example.

I have the following children for this couple as follows:

1. D. Pedro de Bustos y Xérez ch. 8 Jan 1617-Santa María de los Lagos
2. Da. Catalina de Bustos y Xérez ch. 12 Jan 1619-Santa María de los Lagos (rama Villavicencio y Bustos)
3. Capt. D. Francisco de Bustos y Xérez ch. 12 Oct 1619-Santa Fe de Guanajuato (rama del Marqués de S. Clemente)
4. D. Rodrigo de Bustos y Xérez ch. 13 Jun 1630-Santa Fe de Guanajuato

Why do I mention this? I have long suspected that Da. María Pérez aka Da. María Díaz who married D. Nicolás de los Santos, progenitors of the Santos y Bustos family of Aguascalientes-Lagos de Moreno-Sierra de Pinos is their daughter. The Bustos name would have perfectly fit with the "apellido fuerte" philosophy that I previously mentioned. I have thought about the following reasons:

1. Her death record mentions she is from Santa Fe de Guanajuato.
2. For some reason, her children use the "Bustos" name and create a new branch Santos-Bustos
3. The Bustos family maintained close ties to Santa María de los Lagos, they owned several nearby haciendas and half of the Bustos children are baptized in Lagos.
4. In Catalina de Bustos y Xérez's baptism, her mother appears to be using the Pérez surname, is there a link with my María Pérez Díaz.
5. Based on the marriage date of 22 Apr 1637 in nearby Aguascalientes with D. Nicolás de los Santos, it would place María probably around the age of 16 as D. Alonso de Bustos and Da. Ana de Jérez married 20 Jul 1616.

Also, I recently found another branch of the Santos-Bustos family. Based on the time line and wife's last names D. Mateo de los Santos Bustos and Da. Teodora López de Chávez, vecinos de Teocaltiche, would fit perfectly as children of D. Nicolás de los Santos y Da. María Pérez Díaz and D. Pedro de Chávez Fragoso y Da. Margarita López Muñoz de Nava (also my 10th great grandparents). I have not found a record to prove the following link, but strongly believe it was so. Mateo did not used the full name (at last from what I have studied) he only used D. Mateo de los Santos, it would be his son who revealed the family name. I have the following two children, one of them being the Sierra de Pinos line:

1. Da. Andrea de los Santos (did not use Bustos) ch. 12 Jan 1680-Teocaltiche who married D. Tomás Ponce de León y Medinilla on 23 Jan 1701 -Aguascalientes.

2. D. Felipe de los Santos y Bustos (he used the entire surname) ch. 28 May 1683-Teocaltiche and married Da. Sebastiana Barragán y Acosta on 15 Feb 1706-Sierra de Pinos. Their son D. Leonisio de los Santos Bustos y Acosta married Da. María Guerrero on 3 Nov 1737-Sierra de Pinos.

It's a lot of information, but I hope it gives us new light and some direction in establishing the Bustos line. Let me know what you think.

Daniel,

This is great information. I was just about to go back to this family because I directly descend from them on three different lines. My most recent Bustos/Santos relative is Juana de Bustos who is mentioned as being originaria de Guanajuato, seen here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XGS-GF6

I also descend from doña Beatriz Ramos de Busto, that married Capitán don Antonio de Aguiar y Quiroga y Sánchez de Balboa. And I also descend from Cristóbal de Santos y Bustos that was married to Margarita Ruiz de Esparza so I'm very interested in this family. Thank you so much for posting this information.

Hola,

Atentamente,
Steven Francisco Hernández López

Hello everyone,

I am researching the Villaseñor family. I am trying to find a dispensa for the marriage of third cousins Ana María Rosa Villaseñor Servantes y Mendez de la Huerta and Joseph Joaquin Carillo De Figueroa y Villaseñor. They were married on 28/Oct/1732 Valladolid (Morelia) Michoacan. She is the daughter of Domingo Villaseñor Servantes and Cathalina Mendez De la Guerta. His parents are Juan Carillo De Figueroa and Maria Villaseñor De la Cueva. He descends from Juan De Villaseñor and Catalina Corona. I have his line, but I am confused as to how they are third cousins if Domingo uses the surname Villaseñor if he also descends from the Villaseñor Corona line. “Ana María Rosa Villaseñor Servantes” is known by many names. Here are a couple of her other names: “Rosa Mendez Villaseñor”, “Ana Rosa Mendez De Huerta Villaseñor”,

Does anybody know if the dispensasa from Valladolid from the year 1732 have been indexed?

I would greatly appreciate any help that is offered.

Thank you,
Rick A. Ricci

Hi Rick,

Unfortunately, we haven't yet indexed films from 1732 over at www.valladoliddispensas.com. We're currently indexing films from the 1600s.

That said, I'll take a look at the 1732 films and will let you know if I find any information regarding the couple you called out.

Dispensa Research Question – Looking for Dispensa of Francisco Flores and Nepomucena Cuevas

Hello,

Comment

Hi Ruben and Rick, many thanks for the input. I also believe that their relationship is through their Flores line, and this is the line I am probably more interested in since it is also my last name, and this is the line where I have advanced the least in my family tree (I have information all the way to Francisco’s grandparents, but I was hoping the dispensa would help me advance two generation above that) . I actually descend from Francisco’s brother (Jose Jesus Flores).

Francisco Flores and Nepomucena Cuevas were related in the 4th degree as follows:
4th Francisco Flores(b.about 1845) -----(Pretensos)-------------Nepomucena Cuevas (b. about 1834)
3th Plutarco Flores (b. bef. 1814)--(primos segundos)----Jesus Cuevas Flores (b. bef. 1800)
2nd Jose Guadalupe Flores (b. bef. 1784)----(primos hermanos)---Ma. de San Joseph Flores (b.bef. 1785)
1st “unknown” Flores (b. bef. 1769)------(brothers)------“unknown” Flores (b. bef.1770)
Father "unknown” Flores (born before 1755)

I will research more about Maria de San Jose Joseph Flores and see if I can uncover more info looking through her descendants.

And Rick, I will also check on Juan Joseph Flores and Bernanda Flores and see how they fit in all of this. So far I have only found a Bernanda Flores who was a daughter of a Juan Joseph Flores, but she would have been 9 years old when Maria Dorotea Flores Cuevas was born, so she would have been too young to be Dorotea’s godmother. So I will keep looking.

I really appreciate all your help. Thanks again.

Comment

Hello Minerva.

Carlos Cuevas and María Flores were the paternal grandparets of Nepomucena and Librada Cuevas according to the christening record of Librada.

So the relationship between Francisco and Nepomucena must be through their Flores lineage.

The full given name of María Flores is María de San José (Maria de Sn. Jph.) according to other record available at FamilySearch.

I hope those records help in your search.

Comment

Carlos Cuevas and María de San Jph. are also the parents of Ma. Dorotea Cuevas. Below is the link to her baptismal record. The padrinos are Juan Joseph Flores and Bernarda Flores. If the padrinos are the maternal grandparents, the Flores relationship of Francisco Flores and Nepomucena Cuevas may be from either Juan Jph. Flores or Bernarda Flores.

it's quite possible it never got microfilmed or got lost. i've come accross couples that i knew for certain were related to each other but yet was never able to find one for them. while all these couples in question were married before 1800, i wouldn't be surprised if there's post 1800 ones that aren't available online
