GeneaNet.org

I just stumbled across this website while doing some research. Has anyone else used it before?

It was a simple process of signing up for a free account (of course, premium services are also available) in order to access trees of other members. So far, I have found a large amount of information that pertains to my family line. It takes a while to learn your way around, but it seems easy enough to use. I haven't yet done so, but you are also able to share your family tree with other genealogists.

Any comments would be appreciated, especially from those who have used this site before.

From Spain to Zacatecas (and Jalisco, Aguascalientes, etc.)

Hello Group,
this is more of a history question, but it pertains directly to genealogy. I'm curious what books are available that talk about the process/journey that the Spanish immigrants took when they first arrived, then settled where they did? In others, where did they embark from Spain? Who were the people that immigrated (they weren't all Dukes and wealthy landowners!)? Where did they land in Mexico? Did they already have a destination in mind or did they have to make their own way? What was the role of the Spanish crown/government (such as for soldiers and landless folk?).

If anyone can recommend some books that answers some of these questions, I'd appreciate it. Oh yeah, I guess I should mention that I can't really read Spanish beyond an elementary level.

Saludos,
Arturo

Saldivar Ramirez

Wondering if anyone can help me tie in these people with Juan Silva Ramirez 1901 - 1994, hijo de Pedro Silva and Angela Ramirez. We had a family reunion this weekend and these names popped up and that Simon Saldivar Ramirez was primo de Juan Silva or Saldivar Ramirez. I am not sure if they are in true related, but seems close.

Any idea? This is a brick wall. That Juan Silva never knew his parents family. His mother died when he was six years old and can't recall what happened to his father. If I recall he died before or right after his mother.

Mejia/Castaneda, Jerez Zacatecas Mexico

Is anyone working on the Joaquin Mejia/Ma. Cayetana Castaneda line in the district of Jerez Zacatecas?
My question is if Esteban and Sebastian are the same person. In doing the marriage dispensations from la Sagrada Mitra on the pilot program I keep finding them listed as the same person..
Esteban sometimes referrred to as Sebastian was married to Petra Tovar and their children are from 1769 to 1780.

Sebastian Mejia was married to Juana de Jesus Caldera. All their children are born from 1790 to 1820

Mezquitic, Jalisco

Does anyone Know if there are records of Mezqutic Jalisco, from 1950-1930 pertaining to baptisms and/or birth certificates. I know the town burned down in 1927 and well I dont know if its just that LDS has not gotten to those specific records or if the Cristeros burned down all of that information. Thanks!

Gracias!

pilot.familysearch.com - status of ranchos records?

Last year, there was a post about the LDS websitepilot.familysearch.com which has limited online indexed records and images for and non-indexed images for Baptisms, Census, Marriages and deaths - and now has image only access to Catholic church records for Aguascalientes but not Jalisco or Zacatecas.

What is the current status? Are they going to upload the Zacatecas Catholic Church records? Is anyone on this list working on indexing?

Thanks!

Jaime Holcomb and Lope Ruiz de Esparza

In the Family Group Sheet for Lope Ruiz de Esparza and Francisca Gabay, Jaime Holcomb cites the following reference:

"Documentos proporcionados por el Licenciado Luis Lopez Martinez: Prueba de Nobleza y Limpieza de Sangre hecho por el esposo en Aguascalientes con su ascendencia en Espana varias generaciones, historia familiar y muy escueta genealogia de la esposa--dice que la madre de la esposa fue nieta del ultimo emperador Azteca, Moctezuma."

Does anyone have a copy of this, or know where a copy may exist?

Soon to be released Zacatecas Pilot Records

Hi all, on Sunday after Church we had a fireside and had the honor
to speak with the head of the Latin America division committee of
Family Search. For about 3 hours he gave a presentation on how
to start our genealogy for the all levels of expertise. He's the guy
in charge on the order of records are released online (at least
the Spanish speaking countries.) He stated because of constant
asking for Zacatecas it would be one of the next states to be released
we could be seeing with in later this year possibly for Zacatecas
church records online which would be good for all of us! He also
stated it matters what people want, if no one says we want say Guanajuato
then he'll just wait. The reason why Chihuahua was released was because
his ancestors are mostly from Chihuahua, ha ha ha. We as Nuestros
Ranchos should sign and write up a letter to release Jalisco soon!
I think with the body of dedicated genealogist we have it would leave an
impression. Eventhough he said Mexico City (DF) and Jalisco would be
one of the last ones to be realeased. Because They both were capitals of their
own audencias in Colonial Times. Nueva Galicia and Mejico. It also helps
if we leave feedback on the pilot site, they actually do check it believe it
or not. I hope this gives us hope! I know I cant wait for Zacatecas and Ill
explode when Jalisco is finally released!

Deaths 1935 lists Felicana Serna as the child of Juan Serna and Petra ( no name given) and widow of Donato Gutierrez. under the civil Records 1935 image no 343 of 568. Page no 59. I would like some verification of this marriage or the Family history of Feliciana Serna. any info on a donato Gutierrez would be appreciated.

Gomez Villalobos, Gonzalez Aguilera- INTRODUCTION

Greetings!
My name is Mercedes Gomez Villalobos and I am happy to be a new member to Nuestros Ranchos. I'm still learning how to navigate this website. I'm posting as much info as I've managed to research in the last 3 years. I need help if anyone out there knows about these wonderfully mysterious distant relatives. I often wonder where my family came from and from what countries we originated. I understand we have French and Spanish and Indigenous blood. My parents had 12 children we're all alive, including my 105 year old mother. Her mind is sharp and she has wonderful stories to tell us. My father had blue eyes and blond hair, my mother had brown eyes, hair. We're all different from very light hair and skin to medium olive skin and brown eyes.

My father Antonio Gomez Gonzalez b.1899 and mother Virginia Villalobos Aguilera B.1905 both in Canadas, Jalisco. My paternal grandparents: Francisco Gomez Martinez b.1869 , his parents: Nicolas Gomez and Gregoria Martinez. They had some children born in El Sagrario, Aguascalientes, Irapuato, Guanajuato and Encarnacion de Diaz. . Joaquina Gonzalez Jimenez b. 1874, her parents: Jose Maria Gonzalez and Simona Jimenez. I believe they came from a military family because there's a photo of Francisco's son Jesus Gomez Martinez with a military uniform. I believe he might have served under Porfirio Diaz. We don't know what happened to him. He was 15 when he left Encarnacion to serve in the military.

My maternal grandparents: Florencio Villalobos Aguilera b.1873 in San Sebastian Del Alamo, his parents were Ysidro Villalobos Lopez b.1834 and Jacoba Aguilera Garcia b.1838 m.1857, Teocaltiche
Maria Leonides Aguilera Diaz b.1871, Rio Chico, her parents: Justo Aguilera Quezada B. 1831, his parents: Anastacio Aguilera and Rita Quezada . Macsima Diaz Villalobos b. 1841, her parents: Jose Rafael Diaz and Justa Villalobos Carrano b. 1809. Justa's parents: Juan Jose Villalobos and Petra Carrano. Juan Jose was Fernando Villalobos and Maria Lozano's son.

I hope this introduction will stir some interest in those who might have the same distant relatives.
Thanks and Vaya con Dios.

Flamenco

Thanks to all who helped me interpret the phrase 'flamenco de nacion' as Flemish by birth or nationality. That makes more sense geographically than my original definition of Andalusian gypsy.

Portions of Zacatecas and a taste of Jalisco posted at Pilot

At last, some records of the most awaited Mexican States made were posted at LDS Pilot site. Unfortunately for Jalisco, records only include four localities, and for Zacatecas they are far for complete. Regardless, we should be so grateful to LDS for making these available.

Consanguidad

Hey everybody, I need some help.
What does con Tercero con cuarto
grado de consanguidad? I found
a marriage for cousins in my lines
and could potentially help me rack
my own line too. Does anyone by 1772
if the dispensations still were under
La Sagrada Mitra of Guadalajara, since this
marriage happened in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, the
document states it was sent to the city of Aguascalientes,
signed by Manuel Colon de Laurreatagui on 2 of
april 1772.

Thanks,
Daniel

San Jose de Sauceda, Sn Jose de Llanetes, San Mateo, Zac.

I must apolgize, that was my first post. I believe the family originated around the hacienda of San Jose de Llanetes. There are two other haciendas close by, San Jose de Sauceda, later known as Sauceda, and San Mateo, Zacatecas. These haciendas are located between Fresnillo and Valparaiso, Zacatecas.
