Were you able to match up the ages of the bride and groom at their marriage? Does it make sense for the year the child was born. In other words, they weren't 80 when the child was born. Sometimes when you have such discrepancies you have to look at other things. You can trust marriage records more than birth because you know the "novios" were there and they gave much more reliable information. Your information was so far off, I wouldn't add it till I had more info to confirm. I think Angelina's advise is right on. I was just about to add an ancestor to my tree today because I thought I already had the parents on my tree. It was a Josefa Mier and Alejo Berumen. I had a Maria Josefa Berumen and Manuel Berumen. I figured he could have been Manuel Alejo Berumen, then I realized they were about 100 years apart. You find this happens often.

Erlinda,

I have a Joseph Francisco Berumen b1761, father Miquel Berumen, La Estancia Tepetongo, mother Da.
Very close, but I don't have Francisco's spouse yet. I have spent almost 75% of my time trying to find my 5X maternal grandfather.

Zapvive1,

Keep in mind that a lot of the times the mother was not present during the
baptism since she was still recovering from childbirth and it was considered
a necessity to have the child baptized within days of birth; therefore, it
is common for mistakes to happen with the names of the maternal
grandparents. In this particular case, it looks like the scribe might have
mixed up the maternal grandmother (Gertrudis Garcia de Alba) with the
paternal grandmother (Maria Antonia ...) and came up with a new name (Anna
Maria Garcia de Alba). In any case, I would look for other children from
this marriage and try to resolve the difference in names that way. The other
possibility is that you are dealing with another couple...

Good Luck,
-Angelina-

Comentario

I would also look at the records right before and after, just in case of an
error. Its rare, but twice this year when Indexing I noticed that names
seem to have been "borrowed" from the record before or after, suggesting an
error by the scribe.

You can access the film numbers by clicking the "Catalog" option at the top
of FamilySearch.com home page. It looks to me like it was part of film #
1156615. I don't quite understand why, if one clicks the film number,
presumably to order it, it then says it does not exist.

I also descend from Juan de Tiscareño and Isabel Romo de Vibar y Rangel. Juan was the son of Luis Tiscareño de Molina y Márquez and Lorenza Ruíz de Esparza Navarro Gabay (Gabadi). This is proven in the dispensas of two of his great-grandchildren that married great grandchildren of his sisters Elvira Márquez and Francisca Gabadi.

Isabel Romo de Vibar y Rangel died in 15 June 1692 and Juan Tiscareño remarried to Juana de Orozco. In the Información Matrimonial Volume 1693: image 198
11 Mar 1693 he states to be 63 years old. This means he was born about 1630 if his statement is correct.

Hola, Armando,

Thank you for the information in your post; I was able to follow the links and confirm everything you said, except for the Información Matrimoniál 1693:image198 for the second marriage of Juan Tiscareño to Juana de Orozco, which I did not see on that volume; I do have their marriage, however (film 299422 image 168).

My question now become one of what appears to be two Juan de Tiscareños: the one we are following and the other, baptised 12 de nob 1638 (film 299422 images 69–70), son of Luis de los Reyes and Juana de Vargas (who took the surname Tiscareño about 1654). For now, that is a puzzle to me.

Your proof of the parentage of 'our' Juan de Tiscareño is a good bit of detective work; well-done!

Saludos,
Lawrence

CORRECTION: I did, in fact, find the información matrimonial (image198); in fact, I had already found it but did not realize its importance. Sorry for the confusion!

Comentario

Hola, Lawrence.

As far as my investigation goes I had a lot of help from numerous people. Some was from posts on NR, trees in Geneanet.org, and some from people that don't participate in the previous two.

The other Juan de Tiscareño is talked about in a thread that concerns him specifically. Bill Figueroa identified Juana de Vargas (aka Juana de Tiscareño) as the illegitimate daughter of Luis de Tiscareño. The proof is in the testament in 1675 by Luis de los Reyes transcribed by Bill Figueroa.

What records do you have of Juan de Reyes (alias Juan de Tiscareño) other than his baptism?

in doing research on the records from Tamazula, Jalisco I'm finding the word tresalva or tresalvo. Can someone tell me what it means since my translation dictionary has no answer.

Comentario

Linda, I know this one! The term actually has its roots in equestrian
history. A tresalvo originally referred to a horse with three white feet. In
the case of church record it refers to a mostly "white" or European
bloodline.

thank you Angelina, what a strange way to describe people! I guess she was "whiter" than a Mestiza but not white enough to be Spaniard!

Hi Daniel, funny you should ask.. I went back to working marriages 1681... 226026.. I've been working on my Dads family in Zacatecas so this is the first time I've returned to Jalisco in a while.
It appears all is well in Brazil.. you look happy and confident in your photos on Facebook.
Daniel, my cousin and I were contacted by a  Cammi Amescua looking for information.. she has parents and brother for Juan Mendez/Juana Torres Mendez, you never gave me the information taking that family line back from Francisco's records.  Did she contact you?
take care, Linda

Bill,
I only had my ancestors, Lorenzo de Yanez del Monte and his sister,
Jacinta de Benavides (or Olivo), listed as children of Gonzalo Yanez del
Monte and Geronima de Benavides, but many times I just haven't listed or
looked for siblings. I see on pg 545 of *Sagrada MItra...*, by Maria de la
Luz Montejano Hilton, entry 2720, dated 26 Sep, 1690 from Tepatitlan de
Morelos, that the gpts cited are Lorenzo Yanez and his sister, Florencia
Yanez. The connection is Lorenzo Yanez>Geromina de Benavides, wife of
SimonTorres>Lorenzo Torres (pretenso), and Florencia Yanez>Luis
Gonzalez>Maria Gonzalez (pretensa).

That's great...!!

I'm looking forward to exploring multiple connections with you and other NR members.

I had second thoughts about doing the FamilyFinder (autosomal) testing, but the range relationship and suggested relationship results have lead to new found cousins that are members of NR...Saul Narvarro, Juan Carlos Aguayo Munos
and yourself...

Truly is a very small world...

The first of the new year I will post the names of the individuals that appear on Tino's FF (autosomal) test results, hoping that we find even more cousins on NR...

Pat,

So far I don't have a connection with Saul Navarro, that is not yet, but I do with Juan Carlos Aguayo Muños. Juan Carlos and I connect with at least 4 lines, Aguayo, Muños, Ruiz, Duran and maybe the Olmos line as well. What's Tino's connection to Juan Carlos Aguayo Muños??

Hi Raquel,

That's great...!!

I'm looking forward to exploring multiple connections with you and other NR members.

I had second thoughts about doing the FamilyFinder (autosomal) testing, but the range relationship and suggested relationship results have lead to new found cousins that are members of NR...Saul Narvarro, Juan Carlos Aguayo Munos
and yourself...

Truly is a very small world...

The first of the new year I will post the names of the individuals that appear on Tino's FF (autosomal) test results, hoping that we find even more cousins on NR...

Tino's connection to Juan is via their common ancestors Nicolas Yanes Aguirre y Maria Phelipa Gonzalez.

Hi Raquel and Pat,

Thank you for the information you provided. It has been very helpful to me, but has also raised a very important question, which I'll try to explain in the following paragraphs.

When I added Ma. Florencia Yáñez to my database I could not confirm that Lorenzo de Torres and María González Rodríguez (pretensos) were "second cousins". There is a discrepancy between the dispensa and information included in "Genealogías de Nochistlán..." by José Luis Vázquez Rodríguez, which seems to indicate that Lorenzo de Torres was "second cousin once removed" of María González Rodríguez. The original dispensa is online at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18427-12933-38?cc=1874591&wc… and the information extracted by María de la Luz Montejano on pg 545, entry 2720, of her book "Sagrada Mitra...". Both of them agree, but notice what María González stated in her declaration:

In chapters 27, 38, 66 and 70 of "Genealogías de Nochistlán..." José Luis Vázquez Rodríguez confirms that Lorenzo and Ma. Florencia Yáñez were brother and sister, the children of Gonzalo Yáñez del Monte and Gerónima de Benavides. According to information contained in chapter 66, there were two Luis González Domínguez, the elder identified as "el Viejo", and his son identified as "el Mozo". Luis González Domínguez "el Viejo" was the son of Bernardo González and Florencia Yáñez. He married Ana González de Hermosillo and had several children. Luis González Domínguez "el Mozo" married Ana Antonia Rodríguez de Hijar y Mesa. They were the parents of María González Rodríguez, pretensa.

So, here is the way I see it:

Lorenzo Yáñez married María Rodríguez de la Mora and had a daughter Gerónima de Benavides, named after her paternal grandmother. This second
Gerónima married Simón de Torres, and had a son Lorenzo de Torres, pretenso, who married María González Rodríguez, pretensa, on 26 Aug 1690 in Tepatitlán.

Ma. Florencia Yáñez married Bernardo González Domínguez (Genealogías de Nochistlán, Chapter 66, pgs 207-208). Bernardo and Florencia had a son Luis González Domínguez (el Viejo) who married Ana González de Hermosillo. Luis and Ana had a son also named Luis González Domínguez (el Mozo) who married Ana Antonia Rodríguez de Hijar y Mesa. They were the parents of María González Rodríguez (pretensa).

Based on the foregoing, it appears that Lorenzo Yáñez was the grandfather of Lorenzo de Torres (pretenso) and María Florencia Yáñez was the great-grandmother of María Gonzalez Rodríguez (pretensa). That makes Lorenzo de Torres "second cousin once removed" of María González Rodríguez.

Is it possible that María González didn't realize that her father and grandfather had identical names? She was only 18 years old and had already given birth to her first child when she declared that she "had heard from several people that she and Lorenzo had a blood relationship". I get the impression that she didn't know very much about her ancestors.

I hope someone in this forum can take a look at this and let me know if my interpretation is correct. Although I have found errors in "Genealogías de Nochistlán..." this doesn't seem to be the case. Let me know what you think.

Bill,
I only had my ancestors, Lorenzo de Yanez del Monte and his sister,
Jacinta de Benavides (or Olivo), listed as children of Gonzalo Yanez del

Hi Raquel,

In checking the pedigree charts that you shared on NR, I believe that I
have established a link with your ancestors Gonzalo Yanez del Monte y
Geronima de Benavides.

Gonzalo Yanez del Monte y Geronima de Benavides are my husband Florentino
(Tino) L Corbera's 9th Great Grandparents.

Tino's Maternal Line:
Mother Ma Refugia Perez-->Ma Andrea Aguirre Andrade-->Ma Senovia
Aguirre-->Jose Timoteo Aguirre-->Joseph Leonicio Contreras Aguirre-->Ma
Phelipa Gonzalez Contreras-->Melchora Losano Gonzalez-->Bernardo
Gonzalez-->Luis Gonzalez Dominguez-->Ma Florencia Yanez-->Gonzalo Yanez
del Monte y Geronima de Benavides (9th GGParents)

Tino's Maternal Grandfather
Mother Ma Refugia Perez-->Jose Fernando Aguirre Perez-->Ma Aniseta Losano
Aguirre-->Jose Miguel Aguirre-->Joseph Joaquin Aguirre-->Ma Phelipa
Gonzalez Contreras-->Melchora Losano Gonzalez-->Bernardo Gonzalez-->Luis
Gonzalez Dominguez-->Maria Florencia Yanez-->Gonzalo Yanez del Monte y
Geronima de Benavides (9th GGParents)

There's another line from Tino's Maternal Grandfather:
Mother Ma Refugia Perez -->Jose Fernando Aguirre Perez-->Jose Victoriano
Rodriguez Perez-->Maria Ynes Rodriguez-->Ma Rosalia Sandoval-->Juan
Manuel Sandoval--> Juana Josepha Gonzalez-->Joseph Gonzalez Losano-->Bernardo
Gonzalez-->Luis Gonzalez Dominguez-->Ma Florencia Yanez-->Gonzalo Yanes
del Monte y Geronima de Benavides (10thGGParents)

If I'm reading your chart correctly your ancestor is Lorenzo Yanez del
I have
Lorenzo Yanez del Monte(Tino's 8th GreatGrandUncle) married to Maria
Rodriguez de la Mora (she daughter of Juan Rodriguez de la Mora y Ysabel
Delgadillo. Maria is an aunt by marriage, but most likely we may have
another connection via the Mora and Delgadillo lines, I have not link
those two lines as of yet).

Once we establish this is a correct linking I can then send you an
ahnentafel chart.

Hello Bill,

Years ago Deena Ortiz sent a GEDCOM file to me containing all of Tino's Nochistlan ancestors...She had seen a posting that I had done online, and she apparently was researching the same individuals that I was inquiring about.

To answer your question yes, Ma. Florencia Yanez is the daughter of Gonzalo Yanez and Geronima de Benavides according to Deena's research.

I have no other documentation other than what was contained in the GEDCOM from Deena. In checking Deena's NR file I did not see a source noted...

There is a "Capitulo 27," in the Nochistlan book for Lorenzo Yanez y Maia Rodrigues de la Mora. Lorenzo Yanez del Monte married to Maria Rodriguez de la Mora, is the brother of Maria Florencia Yanez, it's possible that there would be more information on their parents Gonzalo Yanez de Monte and Geronima de Benavides. I do not have this book, only the listing of "capitulos."

The earlier marriage records, in some localities, give only the 'essential' facts. That is, just the names of the couple getting married. All the other details are often in the matrimonial investigations.

In Aguascalientes, for example, the marriage records started giving more details in the 1740s. Prior to then, the matrimonial investigations, when they exist, filled in the details; however, many are missing.

The information that was recorded in the sacramental documents changed over time. As I'm sure you've also noticed, and not every community did things the same way. When changes were ordered by the Bishop, it took a while for everyone to start doing things the same way.

Another reason is that the clerk who recorded the marriage may not have had all the information. He recorded what he knew. Ocassionally you may see a blank where a surname should be. Rarely, the given name is missing.

I think you can only search by batch numbers, not film numbers. I took a look at a small number of the searchable collections, some had this option, others did not.

This link http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/pavrl will take you the Parish and Vital Records lists for Aguasacalientes, Jalisco, and Zacatecas here at Nuestros Ranchos. From here you can get the batch numbers. For other states you will need to look at the microfiche which may be at your local FHC. However, these lists are old, last updated about 1998. The volunteers may not be familiar with them, so finding them may be difficult. Also. not all films from all communities were extracted, so there may not be batch numbers for the communities you need.

Another option is to do a google search for "IGI batch numbers mexico". This site http://mexicoigibatchnumbers.wetpaint.com/ should come up. It has many of the numbers, but it is not complete.

Greetings Armando,
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You've answered my question with info to build on.  This scenario demonstrates how important individual genealogy research complements the DNA data.   This will be my first DNA test (actually my brother will be the subject), would you recommend the Family Finder as a good start?  I really would like data from both my paternal and maternal lines.   Thanks again,  Alice

Hello Alice,

You are left to speculate. Apart from that if your Spanish ancestors had
even 2% of Asian ancestry you won't know if that 2% is from them or from
Amerindian ancestry. The same goes for any of the other ethnic breakdowns
because Spaniards are mixed with lots of ethnic groups. You can see a color
coded image of their breakdown in the following images taken from
http://dienekes.blogspot.com/

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9zbUNdodooc/TutQR_n5AZI/AAAAAAAAEXw/zVGNSQwft…

I am still going to try and get an uncle to test so I know my breakdown
from my father's side. However, I won't know what percentage of each ethnic
group is from my paternal grandfather and what percent is from my paternal
grandmother. I will only be able to speculate based on documentation I have
been able to find.

It depends on what you are looking to get out of the test. Are you more
interested in finding matches or are you more interested in just finding
which ethnic groups they think your DNA belongs to? For knowing your ethnic
makeup the best test is the Nationnal Geographic Geno 2.0 test which does
Y-DNA Deep Ancestry, MT-DNA, and an Autosomal SNP test for $199.95. It
doesn't do Y-STR testing and it doesn't do cousin matching in Family Finder
Autosomal SNP even though all of the tests are done by FamilytreeDNA for
National Genographic Geno 2.0

http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/ngs/browse/productDetail.jsp?product…

For matches you should do 3 different tests. The Family Finder, the 37
Marker Y-DNA and the mt-DNA tests with FamilyTreeDNA.

doesn't do Y-STR testing and it doesn't do cousin matching in Family Finder
Autosomal SNP even though all of the tests are done by FamilytreeDNA for
National Genographic Geno 2.0

http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/ngs/browse/productDetail.jsp?product…

For matches you should do 3 different tests. The Family Finder, the 37
Marker Y-DNA and the mt-DNA tests with FamilyTreeDNA.

I monitor 7 family accounts with ftdna.com: mine, my father's, mother's,
maternal uncle's, my mother's maternal uncles, my father's maternal aunt's,
and my husband's, all with family finder testing. Some of my urgency to
test was based on the ages of the dna donors. But I was also just plain
curious, as well s being hopeful that they will eventually be helpful for
genealogical purposes. It is helpful to have others tested on both sides
of the family, to assist in figuring out from which side the matches
probably derive. Although there is tremendous overlap of my matches with
my parents' each of us have some unique to us. I have made a few
connections with some of my matches. I hope to make an organized effort to
utilize the information after I retire in a few years.

As one would expect, my mother's and maternal uncle's results are very
similar, but then again, with some variation in their match results, which
will give me a wider selection to work with once I begin in earnest. I was
quite surprised to find my population finder results were very different
than I had expected. I naively thought they would be about the average of
my parents'. Only my Native American percentage came out as predicted
(33%), while my other results varied significantly. The 3 % East Asian
would have really thrown me if I hadn't already seen my grandaunt's 4%. My
population finder results actually look much more similar to hers than to
my parent's. Probably quite coincidentally, my looks strongly favor that
family line.

I don't know if this is helpful, but feel free to ask me any other
questions. I only order tests when there is some kind of sale going on.

I just got my results back from ancestry.com, and found 4 connections right away, three from my hispanic side and one from my anglo side. The anglo side connection proved a great find because I was still a little iffy on the family connection being the right one.

The hispanic connections took a little work to find the generation but the results came back with many last name searches in common.

What you get from ancestry is a very general breakdown of your DNA results Southern European x%, Central European x% and then a very generic description of each Ethnic
breakdown that outlines

Modern Day Location

About Your Region (bascic history)

Migrations into this region

Migrations from this region

Plus a list of possible family matches
The good thing is when you check out the possible matches they do include direct surname matches in both trees as well as a way to compare locations of where families were born.
They also update the possible matches as people's results come in.

Thank you, for your input on autosomal testing...I have decided to use FTDNA for testing my husband's hispanic lineage first...

I will share the results when they come in, hopefully by the end of Nov or first of Dec...

I will also check out ancestry.com's DNA testing options....

Pat,

I noticed your research surnames, specifically Serrano. Do you happen to have Prudencia Rita Serrano in your tree? Good luck, with your autosomal testing.

I just realized that I didn't reply to "OctoberFly," posting on Mon, 2012-09-24 with reference to surname Serrano, and Prudencia Rita Serrano...

My husband's paternal grandmother Trinidad Salamanca Serrano, daughter of Juan Serrano y Jesus Maria Mora Salamanca were from Momax.

I have no information as to who Juan Serrano's parents are, but I do have Juan y Jesus Maria's offspring...they are:

Gregorio Salamanca Serrano bapt. 10 May 1866 (married Serapia Vega Mota, I have 6 children for this couple...Rufina, Yosefa, Lorenzo, Geronimo, Sixto and Braulio all with Serrano surnames...)
Sostenes Salamanca Serrano bapt. 06 Nov 1867
Petra Maria Salamanca Serrano bapt 03 Aug 1869
Cecilio Salamanca Serrano bapt.12 Jul 1871
Trinidad Serrano Mora bapt 12 Jun 1873
Trinidad Salamanca Serrano born abt 1880...it's possible that Trinidad Serrano Mora is the same person as Trinidad Salamanca Serrano. More research is needed to establish this.

I have other Serranos in file. I'm more than willing to check any other Serranos that you may have with what I have in file...

Sincerely,
Pat Silva Corbera

Attn: October Fly,

Your 2012-09-24 question addressed to me regarding Prudencia Rita Serrano and the possibility that she would be related to my husband's Serrano ancestors...In checking my data file, I do not see her listed...

Do you have any other Serrano ancestors/relatives, if so I'd be more than happy to check for a connection...

I wasn't sure if I had answered your question before, this may be a duplicated reply...

Raquel,

Your posting was more than helpful, thank you so much...now all I need to do is to decided if I want to have my husband's autosomal tested first, or mine.

I also monitor many family accounts with FTDNA.com:

myself (HVR1 &HVR2)

my nephew (on my paternal YDNA line)

4 cousins (on my maternal paternal ancestry, who also shares common direct line ancestry with my paternal direct line ancestor...my parents were first cousins once removed, sharing a male direct line common ancestor.)

and then there is my Mexican husband's paternal and maternal lines...(his paternal 67marker confirmed as Q1a3a and his mtDNA Haplogroup A, both HVR1 & HVR2).

We also had our grandson's YDNA 37 marker tested, but not his mtDNA, since it would be the same as mine and his (mother my biological offspring)...

Now it's time to see if family on my side would be interested in having their autosomal tested...

I'm pretty sure before I do that, I will order the autosomal test for my husband...

Once again Thank you so much for taking the time in replying to my posting...

Raquel,
It's great that you've been tested.  I've decided to use FTDNA, but still not sure which of the many products offered are a good fit for me.
When you say that you've made a few connections with some of your matches, what are you referring to?  Are the matches names of people you didn't know you were related to?
Are they living or in the past, or both?
These are matches made possible because these family members were also tested, correct?  If no matches were found, how would you be able to use the info you received?
Thanks so much for your sharing,   Alice

Alice, As I indicated, I have not put any concerted effort in using the
family finder matches yet--it on my "to do" list for retirement. I've
identified a few matches with people from fellow NR members, which expanded
my list of ancestor's siblings. I've had some contact from matches not in
my Jalisco line, but either they or I have not collected enough
genealogical information to identify our shared ancestor yet. That may
come in the future. I and an HRV2 but not Full Sequence match did use the
FF to confirm that we will not be able to identify our shared ancestor.
She is the only match for my father's Haplogroup C. But we still enjoy
calling each other "cousin".

Hello Raquel,
How interesting!  As you can see, I don't have a vast knowledge of DNA analysis as to what can be learned and what is usable to further personal genealogical research.  I suppose I'm overly cautious because of the costs involved.  So you are given matches based on common DNA, but not necesarily the ancestor through whom you are related.  At that point I imagine one would exchange genealogical information.  That can certainly makes this a very small but exiciting world.
Again, thank you so much,    Alice

Hi,

I've also used FamilyTreeDNA's family finder. I had my mother tested as

I've shared my info with my prima Alicia Carrillo, but I'll share here as

I'm 33% Native Mexican, 55% European, and 12% North African. The family
finder gave me a list of about 40 distant relatives with strands of DNA
matches.

The more interesting part of this email chain is that I have a hunch that
Raquel and I are related via the Aguirre's from Nochistlan. My paternal
grandfather's maternal side of the family is Aguirre. I have Nicolas
Aguirre Yanes married to Maria Felipa Contreas Gonsales on May 20, 1740.
Nicolas's parents are listed as Antonio de Aguirre and Francisca Yanes. I
wonder if this is the same Antonio Aguirre in Raquel's tree????

Nicolas and Maria Felipa are my 5ggpts.

I still have some contacts from the Aguirre's from Nochistlan and one day
hope to get a y-DNA test on these Aguirres.

Hi Alice,

I've used:

mtDNA (HVR1 & HVR2)
Y-DNA (1-12, 13-25 & 26-37)
and
Family Finder (the autosomal DNA test) for both myself and my mother.

All the results were intriguing. The most intersting has been family finder
because it gave me my ethnic breakdown and a list of people that have also
tested with Family Finder and that have genetic matches.

Hi Juan,
Which test gave you your ethnic percentages breakdown that you mentioned?  If I order the  YDNA 37-mtDNA Plus for my brother to take, will I also receive this info for both the paternal and maternal sides of our family?  Thanks so much,  Alice

Hi Alice,

I've used:

mtDNA (HVR1 & HVR2)
Y-DNA (1-12, 13-25 & 26-37)
and
Family Finder (the autosomal DNA test) for both myself and my mother.

All the results were intriguing. The most intersting has been family finder
because it gave me my ethnic breakdown and a list of people that have also
tested with Family Finder and that have genetic matches.

Hello,
This is all so interesting, I'm a bit confused.  The Family Finder states, "Due to the nature of autosomal DNA, the test does not specify from which branch of your family tree your matches or the percentages of your geographic heritage derive."  I understand that to mean you were given the total percentages of ethnic groups that is your individual ethinic makeup, but not the breakdown as to what percentage of which group is from your maternal or parternal side?   If you are 33% native american, is that totally from one side, or 20% maternal, 13% paternal?
As interested as I am in all of this, I must find the most useful info for my limited budget.  If I were to go for the YDNA-mtDNA Plus $299. and the Family Finder $289.  The $558. total cost is prohibitive for me.  Someone mentioned occasional price reductions.  I hope to come across one in the near future.  I'm one of four siblings, one male, three female and would like to consider this as a Christmas gift for the family.
Thank you so much for all the feedback.  It has been extremely useful.    Alice

Thanks so much,   Alice

Hello Group Members,

I'm so happy to see that the DNA testing is on sale and brings it into the realm of my reality.  I'd still like to hear from someone that has used Family Finder to clarify something for me.
The Family Finder states, "Due to the nature of autosomal DNA, the test does not specify from which branch of your family tree your matches or the percentages of your geographic heritage derive."  I understand that to mean you are given the total percentages of ethnic groups that is your individual ethinic makeup, but not the breakdown as to what percentage of the group is from your maternal or parternal side?   If you are found to be 33% native american, are you told that it is totally from one side, or 20% maternal and 13% paternal or are you left to speculate?

Thank you so much for all the feedback.  It has been extremely useful.    Alice

You can see a color
coded image of their breakdown in the following images taken from
http://dienekes.blogspot.com/

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9zbUNdodooc/TutQR_n5AZI/AAAAAAAAEXw/zVGNSQwft…

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OHDLLGqRb_8/Tgi19oysxPI/AAAAAAAAAj8/4_6i4VY1y…

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qAdi1qnYmi4/TnorECBBe3I/AAAAAAAAAls/JDPdP56KM…

I am still going to try and get an uncle to test so I know my breakdown
from my father's side. However, I won't know what percentage of each ethnic
group is from my paternal grandfather and what percent is from my paternal
grandmother. I will only be able to speculate based on documentation I have
been able to find.

Regards,
Armando

Hello Juan,

My husband, Florentino L. Corbera (Tino) has had his 67 marker YDNA tested with results placing him in Haplogroup Q1a3a (Native American), his mtDNA HVR1 & HVR2 results Haplogroup A (also Native American).

Tino has not taken the autosomal test, I was waiting to gather more information on what inforamtion that test would provide, plus also waiting for a possible price reduction.

Tino also links with a Nicolas Aguirre, who married on 20 May 1744 to Maria Phelipa Gonzalez Contreras all from Nochistlan. I have the year as 1744 you have 1740, I'll try and locate a record online... Nicolas and Phelipa are Tino's 4th Great-Grandparents.

I do not have Nicolas' parent's names. Phelips's parents are Juan de Contreras y Melchora Losano Gonzalez.

Nicolas and Phelipa's two sons are both Tino's 3rd Great-Grandfathers: son(1) - Joseph Joaquin Aguirre is his maternal paternal direct line and son(2) Joseph Leonicio Contreras Aguirre is his maternal direct line.

It's my understanding that only individuals that have been autosomal tested will make hits on the print out that you referenced... Apparently YDNA and mtDNA test area differ from that of the autosomal.

It would be very interesting if Tino's name appears on your autosomal test results print out.

I believe that I have included the above noted individuals in my GEDCOM that is posted on NR...if not just let me know and I'll share with you what I do have...

How are you related to Alicia? I do not have an Antonio de Aguirre in my file, would be nice if we could actually link with Raquel that would be a "huge find."

Hi,

I've also used FamilyTreeDNA's family finder. I had my mother tested as
well so we are both in their system.

I've shared my info with my prima Alicia Carrillo, but I'll share here as
well.

Saludos,
Juan Aguayo

I've shared my info with my prima Alicia Carrillo, but I'll share here as
well.

Saludos,
Juan Aguayo

Primo Juan,

Let's throw another possible link, my husband Juan Carrillo has some Aguirre lines that I haven't had the time to explore, also from Nochistlan.

Hi Pat,

Yes I believe your husband Florentino and I have an Aguirre link!

We're talking about the same couple of Nicolas de Aguirre and Maria Phelipa
Contreras.

I'll email you separately to discuss further. I'm interested in seeing your
husbands tree. I know that the Aguirres lived in and around La Villita,
Nochistlan.

Saludos,

Juan Aguayo

Juan,
I'm not sure about that connection. I have not located Manuel de Aguirre's
baptismal. There is a possible record in Teocaltiche in 1714; I have to
comb through the records to locate it--its not in sequence But it would
then conflict with his mg record that states he is from Nochistlan. And
the 1738 mg record lists his father as deceased but not his mother. If she
isn't deceased, then his father couldn't be your Antonio, since it looks
like your Antonio Aguirre and Francisca Yanez were still procreating in
1729. Do you have the mg record for Antonio and Francisca, and does in
indicated he was a widow?

Also, I have Family Finder results for both me and my father. I would
have thought one of us would have come up as a match with either you or
your mother. But I'll let you know if I find more on that line.

FAMILY SEARCH LABS UPDATE

Hi All, familysearch just released the Catholic records for Durango! I have a couple so I am very happy!

Hi Daniel :)

I just read your Feb 13th 2010 post and am so happy to hear that info about Durango! I just recently found out that my grandmother Antonia Delgado born in 1910 in Durango, Mexico. I would love to find out more about her background since she had a sad life that ended shortly at 23 yrs old!

I recently went on a trip to California and went to the Norwalk Hall of records/Civil Registar and looked up her death certificate. The odd thing is that it says she was buried at Calvary Cemetary, in Los Angeles, yet when I went there, they had no record of her being buried there!

I was also able to find out that her mother's name was Victoriana Guimenez. Her father's name was unknown. Undoubtedly he was a Delgado : )

Comentario

I am not sure how long it has been on their list, but on looking at the list of regions they are currently working on, aside from the 1930 Census in Zacatecas, they are also working on the states of Michoacan, Mexico and I think it also said D.F.
I also noticed that they are working on getting records up for Lugo, Galicia, Espana. I am especially looking foward to that, as I have managed to trace one family surname back to Lugo. For anyone else researching the de la Torre surname, from what I've noticed that surname is concentrated in Galicia, at least it appears that way in the 18th century baptismal and marriage records.

Comentario

Where did you find the list, I have several Michoacan families
I am researching,

Hi Alexis
Here is a link the the Los Angeles Archdiocese with instructions on how to locate your grandmothers grave. http://archdiocese.la/prayer/cemeteries/info/records.html
My great grandmother is buried there and when I went in person, they were unable to locate her grave. In their defense, I did not have an appointment, they had other people waiting to see them, I only had a death year and it was 1929 which is not in their computer database, so it had to be looked up the old fashioned way. I later wrote them a letter and they were able to give me the location of her grave.
Most helpful was calling the mortuary listed on her death certificate. They gave me the name of the family parish and between the two of them I got more information than I could have hoped for. Hope this helps.

P.S. I do not live in Los Angeles but I am originally from there and visit frequently. If you have the exact location of a grave in Calvary or Rose Hills I can take a picture for you. I may take 1-3 months but I will gladly do this. This is extended to any nuestros member.

Hello-
I am having a similar challenge. Accept, in addition, cannot locate a
death record for my great grandmother Francisca Garcia Torres. The family
story is that she gave birth to my grandfather, Francisco (who also does
not have a birth certificate) in Los Angeles. She did not recover fully
from labor and four months later she died. No records but I do have death
photos. I have contacted Los Angeles County and have had no luck. I have
the likely address she resided at when she passed away- but this is it. I
have been told she was placed in an unmarked grave in L.A. somewhere.

Any suggestions?

Comentario

Esperanza-I'm just kind of thinking out loud. I'm wondering if she was
Roman Catholic and whether the Church keeps records of Last Rites. Since
you have a possible address, maybe you can call the LA Archidiocese and find
out what parish she would have lived in at the time. Also, would the public
library be a resource to find out where paupers' graves would have been
located and registered? Even if they were unmarked, they probably would
have been registered somewhere. Good luck.--Raquel

Jorge,

19 Nov

Saludos.

Hi Laura,
I don't know if you got the suggestion I posted on Nuestros Ranchos to your request I think perhaps it didn't get sent out as an email. You may try San Juan Bautista Church records for the time frame your looking for. My research is also in that area and my ancestors used both churches.

Hello Laura,
You may never definitely know why and you won't know the true birth year until you find the baptismal info.  I came across a similar situation with my own mother.  She had always given 05/14/1915 as her birthdate in Aguascalientes, and on all subsequent official and religious paperwork, including border crossings.  BUT she never had a copy of her baptismal record, much less a birth certificate.  She passed away in 2002 and I didn't start our family genealogy until about five years ago.  The first inconsistency I found was in the 1930 Mexican Census (where although she was living away from home working as a rural teacher), she was listed by her family as being 18 and having been born in Zacatecas.  After much research, I finally located her baptismal record stating she was actually born on 05/18/1911, indeed, in Zacatecas.  My first reaction was I wouldn't mind dropping four years off, too.  But why would she bother to change
her birth date from the 18th to the 14th?  After much family discussion and speculation, we came to the conclusion that we will never really know why, and her headstone will always reflect 05/14/1915 as her birhtdate.

Hi everyone,
I spent most of my summer working on genealogy (I'm a teacher, so I was on vacation).  I've just come back after a hiatus and I thought the time off might clear my head and give me some more ideas about how to find missing relatives.  No such luck.

Maybe you can help with some ideas?

I'm looking for my ggrandmother, Vita Castañeda Galván. I have found other documents mentioning her, but not a baptismal certificate (which I have now become fixated on).

Name:  (Ma) Vita Castañeda Galvan
Born:  abt 1881-1883 (according to her marriage cert., she was 18 in 9/1899, birthday in June.  Took place in Capilla de la Ermita)
Place:  Jerez, Zac (Los Cuervos or El Tesorero). Everyone else was baptized at La Inmaculada)
Father:  Gregorio Castañeda Segobia
Mother:  (Ma.) Ysabel Galván Márquez
Paternal grandparents: Juan Casteñeda Gonzales, Jesus Segobia Martí
Maternal grandparents: Toribio Galván Llamas, Margarita Márquez Villegas

I've looked under Castañon, Castellanos, etc.,Galvan, with no luck. I've also gone through the images of books from La Inmaculada, with no luck.

Her marriage certificate says she was legitimate.  Any other ideas?

ALSO, she told everyone she was born in 1870, but that isn't true according to everything else I've  found.  She was widowed at some point in the 20s (in Texas) and ended up marrying a first cousin (no children).  Why would a woman lie about her age, making herself about 10 years older?

I also ran a quick check and only found two brother for her. My ancestors are also from Jerez and Tepetongo. I'v found them and their children are baptized at both Jerez, Imaculada and at San Juan Bautista. Have you searched through the records of San Juan Bautista for the period you are looking? Could be there.

Help with origin of the Esquibia family, Mesquiticacan, and laborios

Does anyone know where the Esquibia brothers, Lorenzo and Francisco hail
from? They show up in the Nochistlan area (Mesquiticacan--is that an
early version of Mexticacan?) in the 1660s.

Raquel,

Prior to 1774, Mexticacan fell under the jurisdiction of Nochistlan, Zacatecas and at other times it fell under the jurisdiction of Yahualica, Jalisco.

located 5 children between 29 Aug 1667 and 20 Jun 1677, Maria, Antonia,
Juan. Lorenzo, and Nicolasa.

One baptismal record stated that they were "laborios todos".  Does that
just mean they were all manual laborers, or does it mean more?  They are
consistently labeled as espanoles.

Thanks for any help or clarification.

Raquel,

In early days, I have found it spelled with various different spellings, again, it all depended on who was writing it and also taking into consideration that prior to the Bourbon reforms, there wasn't a standard spelling format.

Sorry if I misunderstood your earlier question.

Hola Raquel,

Mesquiticacan is the early spelling an pronunciation of Mexticacán. The
name, derived from the Nahuatl, is composed of the following words:

Mezquitl = mezquite, itic = dentro, and can = lugar. So the word means
"lugar entre mezquites" or "lugar rodeado de mezquites" which translates
into "a site surrounded by mesquites". If you live in Northern Mexico or
the Southwestern United States you already know that mesquite is a deciduous
tree about 20-30 feet high that grows in these areas. It is found
everywhere in Texas.

I don't know where Lorenzo de Esquibias was born, but I do know that he was
español and lived in Mexticacán, where he died on 20 Dec 1691. His son Juan
de Esquibias married his distant relative Marcela de Iñiguez y Cuevas on 26
Jan 1693 in Nochistlán. The following is an extraction from the book
"Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara..." by Luz Montejano Hilton:

pretensa. 13 fojas."

Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara. Rollo 167980 OAH 2345 pt. 2. Matrimonios Hojas
Sueltas, 1690. 1 de enero de 1693.

You can find more information about Lorenzo de Esquibias in "Genealogías de
Nochistlán" by José Luis Vázquez Rodríguez (Chap. 27)

Hi Raquel,

Unfortunately, I don't know how Lorenzo Yáñez and María de Benavides are
related, but have a strong suspicion that it is through the Benavides line.
We now that Lorenzo Yáñez was the son of Gonzalo Yáñez del Monte and
Gerónima de Benavides. María de Benavides (Marcela's grandmother) could be
the daughter of Gerónima's brother or sister. That would make Lorenzo
Yañez and María de Benavides first cousins. Maybe someone in this forum
knows the answer to your question.

Best regards,

I have not personally researched it, but I note that Retonos lists Geronima
as the only issue of Luis de Benavides, with the mother unnamed. I don't
have parents for Gonzalo Yanez del Monte. There is the possibility that a
sibling of his married someone of the Benavides line, either male or
female. As we know, a child sometimes used the surname of the mother.
Hopefully someone has more info and will enlighten us.

I am interested in viewing church entries that would pertain to people living around Sombrerete, Zacatecas in the 1620-40's.

You might want to try Zacatecas, being the major city in the area. Some of those Sombrerete folks may have gone there for sacraments.

Patty,

* Marriage
* Catholic Church
* Civil

Alicia
