Hola, Salvador.

So, my understanding is that it's not so easy to acquire a complete set of Retoños de España en la Nueva Galicia anymore. Hopefully you're successful.

In the mean time, try locating a set at a nearby library (Worldcat).

Also, Retoños was first published about 15 years ago or so, and since then numerous researchers here on Nuestros Ranchos, on Ancestry, on FamilySearch and on Wikitree have documented many of the families that were written about by Mariano González-Leal and his collaborators. Consider posting your brick wall ancestors here, or your questions, and I am positive the amazing Nuestros Ranchos community will gladly lend a hand.

Lots of luck to you.

Wow! Seriously! some one posted $760. for the purchase price of the books?

Don't fall for the rip off!
If you have someone living in Guadalajara, Jalisco You can send them to the Bookstore where I purchased mine (had a niece go get them for me in 2011), the Books are big and heavy and at that time cost me around $80.00 dls. I don`t remember exactly how much I paid for that but I think somewhere around $30. dls. in any case depending on how much the books might cost now, shipping, and a Taxi if they don't have a vehicle, I think it is safe to say should total around $200.00 dls. Here is the address and name of the bookstore where we got mine from:

Librería Mariano Azuela
Callejón Del Càrmen
Av. Juárez No. 612
Col. Centro
Guadalajara, Jal
Tel. 01 (33) 30 30 13 51

I would call before sending anyone to make sure they have them in stock.

Thank you! Can you tell us what type of information is contained in the books. How are they organized and how many books in the set?

Hello JBarba,

It is a Set of 10 Books.

The first book contains a lot of History. The Books are organized by some of the Original Hispanic Last Names that populated the area of Nueva Galicia. It is a valuable research that contain works of other people (properly credited by the Author), such as Mary Lou Montagne.

In Addition to going by Last Name he breaks it down by Descendants (when available), and Towns.

I will add though that it is not a complete work in the sense that, not all Last names that came originally to the area are in this Collection. The Author says he used only the Paternal name, but as some of us know; many, many people used their mother's last name and/or Grandparent's.

Hope I answered your questions,

Shivis

Comentario

Thank you Shivis! You are very kind to take time and explain this. I wonder how the copyright laws work once the publisher is no longer publishing the book. I wonder if we can buy the rights to digitize or get permission to digitize the contents. Is the autor still alive?

If this is great information it’s a shame not to have it available for others to research.
Does anyone here know the answers to any of these questions?

The books are listed on Abebooks for $780. There is no way I can justify that. I'm wondering if there is a way to see if they sell them anywhere in Guadalajara online. I'm going to see my aunt and uncle in March or April. If they don't ship them to the US I can have them sent to them or if they are in print in Mexico I can just go buy them.

My cousin would like to purchase a copy of Retoños. Most of these posts look several years old. Is there a place I can send him to purchase? Or is there anyone interested in selling theirs?

Hi Daniel,

Glad to hear you are interested in Retoños's, it is an outstanding
genealogy work. I have more interest than I have books so if you would
like I can take an order or put you on the list. I should have a few more
copies in about one week. The price is $760, if you live in California I
will pay the sales tax and shipping is $20. I can also do a layaway.

I also have the collection and I have already verified that the information
exists as it was given to Ronnie but in Tomo VI vol. 1 page 18 which is the
section on the Márquez family. It also exists in Tomo IV vol. 2 page 511 in
the section on the González Rubio family. I had replied at

Hola, Armando.

I read the email regarding how helpful and informative the book, Retonos de Espana, was to one of our members. My question is, is the book available for sale, and if it is how do we purchase it?

If you are researching both male and female lines, you may want to
reconsider. Only the male lines with that surname are included in that
family's chapter. I jumped from one Tomo to another as I was hunting down
either the female's lineage (if married into the family), or the daughter's
descendents (within the husband's chapter, if it existed).

George, I'm so sorry for responding so late to your message. I guess we get so wrapped up we forget to keep in touch. I thank you so much letting me know where to get the book. I should have searched more especially since I just ordered some book from the U of C. I took classes there and I'm on their mail list. I will access the website and look again. Thank you and I hope you have a good evening.

You are most welcome! The University libraries can be an amazing resource, although the conditions of use for non-students, or non-alumni, can be daunting. At UC Berkeley, for example, for a member of the public to get a library card is $100! For a UC alumni, it is free.

Worldcat is a very useful resource, but it does not cover all libraries. An omission is the California State Library, which has an amazing genealogy collection in the Sutro Branch in San Francisco

Hi George, I did call the Univ of Chicago and found out they do not lend to individuals but to Universities or Libraries. He suggested I call my local library and request the book. I called this morning and ordered it! It is in stock and he has ordered it for me---should take a couple of days to get to local Library. Hopefully, I will be able to get it. I'll let you know.

Hola, Miguel,

Bueno Me despido.

Toribio e Isabel tuvieron cuatro hijas:

Gracias.

Retonos Volumes I & II - for Alice Blake and Joseph de Leon

Hello Alice and Joseph. I'd like to take a minute and address your very honest question about the contents of the books by Mariano Gonzalez-Leal.

Hola, Claudia. Espero que se encuentre muy bien.

Dear Claudia,
Not a long response at all!  Tell me more; you've piqued my curiousity.  I now know that it covers 17th century families in central Mexico, not only Los Altos.  I also appreciate you telling me that it is most practical if your research extends that far back.   While all my families are indeed from central Mexican states and consist of very old 17th century names found there, I haven't made the connection to them.  As I mentioned, I'm a novice and have only made definite verifiable connections to the early 18th century in Mexico and Spain.

How many volumes are there?  If the families are alphabetized, I could research Calderon, Diaz, and Lizundia in the second volume, but I would be most interested in the third--Onate, Rubio, Santelices, Valderrama, Villagran, and Zepulbeda!

Again, thank you so much for sharing your expertise.  It allows me to make better sense of comments made within the group and place them in the proper context.  It was a pleasure.

Alice

Hello Alice and Joseph.  I'd like to take a minute and address your very honest question about the contents of the books by Mariano Gonzalez-Leal.  Your question resonates with me because I too had the same curiosity but never bothered to ask, because when it comes to book: "Yeah, I want them even though I don't know what's inside, and I sometimes regret buying them."  It's my secret addiction...
Considering that we are all at different levels of research and understanding about our genealogies, I think it's a good gesture for those who are more advanced in their studies to give more than a perfunctory answer to your question.  That's what we're here for, right?

The series is a comprehensive study of the families who lived and settled the regions of Nueva Galicia.  It's not specific only to Los Altos, as there are many families mentioned in the books who lived in Aguascalientes, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, etc.  The first volume gives an overview of the geography, historical setting, and local culture.  It has some (but not many) family trees, mostly from the 17th Century, so if you're hoping to make a connection - you should have traced some lines back at least that far.

The series is split alphabetically, and since I only have the first and second volumes, I can only attest to these two.  Volume two has a total of 40 families/surnames histories (starts with ACEVES and ends with GOMEZ-HURTADO DE MENDOZA).  I must admit that I found a couple of discrepancies - so a lesson learned is to always seek to double-check and confirm that the information is accurate, no matter who the author is.  All and out: it is an invaluable source of information.  I was able to make many discoveries that otherwise, I would not have made.  The author has dedicated a lot of hard work to these books, and I can't wait to see the revised versions!

I hope this (long) description gives you a better picture.

-Claudia

I think there were four volumes altogether:
Vol I - backgrounder
Vol II - Aceves to Gomez Hurtado de Mendoza
Vol III - Gomez de Prodtugal to Munoz de Jerez
Vol IV - Munoz de Nava to Villalobos.

I don't know what the criteria was to include (or not include) certain names, but I don't see Calderon, I see Diaz del Castillo, but not Lizundia. Don't know of the others because I only have the first two volumes,

Good luck!!

Thanks again, Claudia.   I don't believe the person offering the books mentioned which volumes he had.   I'll try contacting him and find out.   I appreciate your well wishes and willingness to share.   Have a great weekend.     Alice

Hello Everyone!

There are only two volumes out from 1985. The books were being revised and had 5 volumes added, but

everyone is waiting for them to be published and offered to the public. They were suppose to come out last year

but didn't. I usually ask Rick Rodriguez if he has any news since he has contact with the author and it was from

Rick that I got my books.

Apellido Ledesma

Dear Carlos,

I started with many of the same questions and have come up with some answers. There are many “Pedro Ledesma” in the mix.

The Pedro Ledesma son of Pedro Ledesma (from Zamora) and Isabel del Grado (from Salamanca) is not the same person as “Conquistador Pedro De Ledesma”. The Conquistador arrived in 1536 with Blasco Nuñez Vela and fought along Pedro Alvarado in Guatemala and Yucatán. He is a vecino in Mexico City in 1556. Conquistador Pedro Ledesma became a friar in 1567 He was widely known to be educated and wise.

Catalina Mexia De La Torre is the daughter of Melchor Perez De La Torre and the first of his three wives, Francisca Jerez (India). Most genealogists make the mistake of saying that Catalina is the daughter of his second wife because there are records saying that she is Pedro Ledesma’s mother-in- law, but Catalina is her stepdaughter. Catalina is named as a daughter in her stepmothers will. This Pedro Ledesma and Catalina lived in Colima and Guadalajara.

Pedro Ledesma and Catalina Mexia De La Torre have at least threes sons and one daughter. Their names are Pedro Ledesma, Juan , and Bernardino Ledesma, and Catalina Mejia. Juan Ledesma De La torre is my ancestor. I have seen secondary sources where they name more children.

3) Juan De Ledesma y De la Torre married Isabel Gonzalez De Rubalcaba Lopez De Fuenllana
4) Clemente De la Torre Ledesma y Gonzalez Rubalcaba married Beatriz Ramirez Tavera. [this Clemente De La Torre Ledesma is the trunk of the De La Torre Ledesma and Ledesma descendants in Los Altos de Villanueva Nueva Galicia (Los Altos De Jalisco)]

The problem is that many people mix up these Pedro Ledesma with the Conquistador. I have not found any records of any marriages or children of Pedro Ledesma the Conquistador. The Conquistador lived much of the latter part of his life in Mexico City.

I believe that the Pedro Ledesma that is married to Catalina Mejia De La Torre is the son of The Pedro Ledesma married to “mujer de Salamanca” and that this mujer de Salamanca is Isabel Grado. Therefore the Conquistador Pedro Ledesma is not the son of Pedro Ledesma and Isabel Grado.

The notes that were shared with me show that two sons of Domingo Ledesma and María Espinosa were born in Salamanca but that a daughter of theirs was born In Guanajuato. The sons were Marcelino m. 1704 in Salamanca to Josefa Rodriguez and Antonio Ledesma b. 1675. Their daughter Antonia was born the year after Marcelino was born in Guanajuato. Domingo and María left many descendants throughout Guanajuato. I have not found a connection between Domingo Ledesma and Pedro Ledesma. These notes and dates regarding the Ledesma in Guanajuato are not from my research.

Hola Rick:

Everyones requests have been uploaded.

Rick, you request was so big I only took pictures of the actual page numbers you posted. This is the actual page the name appears; however, in some cases you may need context and require the whole entry. If so please let me know with the name and page number you need. Also, the whole index is there, just out of order. The page you need is near the end of the main folder.

Please share any discoveries! :)

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. Your kindness and thoughtfulness is tremendous.
I'm still ploughing my way though these names, but I am a bit puzzled by something. I wonder if anyone else has info that could help provide context and clarification. This has to do with Francisco de Zaldivar Mendoza, beginning on p. 47.

In my records, I had Francisco's parents as Juan de Zaldivar y Onate and Marina de Mendoza and that he had eight siblings (sources: http://newmexicohistory.org/people/juan-de-zaldivar and Mil Familias III by Rodolfo Gonzalez de la Garza).

I'm confused by the language in part b. on that page: who is "Juan de Zaldivar el mayor", who states that he is the brother of Francisco? I know Francisco had 2 brothers named Juan: Juan de Zaldivar y Onate and Juan de Zaldivar y Mendoza. (He refers to them as his brothers on p. 52 10 lines from the bottom of the page, where he also called Juan de Zaldivar Onate the "alcalde mayor desta provincia de Tamazula.") But I don't know which of these this Juan is and who is older. Also, is the Juan de Zaldivar y Onate the same person before whom Juan appeared (referred to there as "Juan de Zaldivar Onate")? In other words, was one of Francico's 2 brothers named Juan also the Corregidor of Zapotlan? Since it says the brothers (hermanos) of Francisco signed, then it would make sense that both the Juan de Zaldivar el mayor and Juan de Zaldivar Onate were those two brothers. I have no information about either of those two brothers.

On p. 50, eight lines from the bottom of the page, Francisco refers to a Diego de Zaldivar, his cousin, three times. I have no information on him. The only Diego I know of is his father's brother, Diego de Zaldivar y Onate, born about 1546 in Mexico. Does anyone know to which Diego Francisco is referring?

Interesting, on p. 55, he refers to a Doctor Santiago del Riego, whom he wishes to be the principal executor (albacea) of his estate.
This was his brother-in-law by marriage to his sister, Ana. Fundadores de Nueva Galicia - Guadalajara - Tomo I, by Guillermo Garmendia Leal, p. 70.

In various places, Francisco refers to his sister Catalina as Catalina Maldonado. I have no info on her but presumably this was her married name? Anyone know?

(Francisco's father, Juan, is my 14th great-uncle.)

My paternal grandmother was a descendant of Juan de Oñate. The Zaldivars intermarried so frequently that it is very difficult to distinguish among them. A book on them that I found very helpful is Moctezuma's Children by Donald Chipman. Marge

I am also researching the Onate line and have hit a road block at Francisco Xavier Donate (1740?) who was originally from Sierra de Pinos, Zacatecas per his marriage record to his second wife (1787). The Pinos records on FHL go back to 1776. Do you know where to find and research the early 1700s records?

I've found a few difference variations of the spelling of Onate (Donate, de Onate, Onates, Unates)

Researching this name a long time off and on, and now trying to connect the dots to one of the Onate lines in Zacatecas.

Hi Alex,

If you don't mind, can you share any of the notes for the Oidor Alonso de Oceguera who was married to Francisca Mejia, he's my 12th-great-grand-uncle. I'm curious is there's any mentions of my 12th great-grandfather Pedro de Oceguera and of his wife, who is still a mystery.

Thank You!

Juan de Orozco-Inés Pantoja (1600s - Michoacán)

Hello,

I'm trying to verify whether Juan de Orozco is a descendant of the Villaseñor family. I am also trying to find his wife's, (Inés Pantoja),  parents. They were married in 1647 in Puruándiro, Michoacan.  One of the witnesses for their marriage investigation is Don Diego de Villaseñor y Orozco. Does anyone have any information on either of these people?  I've attached the marriage investigation. Thank you in advance.

On the Ruiz de Chávez-Villaseñor relationship

The Villaseñor surname was used by members of the Ruiz de Chávez family and their descendants during the XVIIth century. This had been done first by the children of Andrés Ruiz de Chávez and María de Ábrego y Castilleja, these were all born in the first half of that century. One of the children of this couple was in fact named "Juan de Villaseñor", just like the Villaseñor's lineage founder.

The origin of the use of "Villaseñor" seemed at first to be through Andrés Ruiz de Chávez ancestry, this being because of his mother Leonor's second surname which was "Corona", some genealogists interpreted this surname as being one of the variations used by the children of Juan de Villaseñor II and his wife Catalina Corona, their children used interchangeably the surnames "Villaseñor", "Cervantes" and "Corona", therefore it was thought that maybe she could've been a granddaughter of these two and thus some cited her as having been "Leonor de Chávez Corona de Villaseñor" despite in life only being

VAULUS, VAULUZ, BAULUZ, BALDUZ

Dear colleagues,

I do not know whether any of you have already verified the following (if this has already been established, I apologise for not being aware of it, but I discovered two days ago that Pedro Fernández de Balduz and María Gabay are my ancestors): Pedro Fernández de Vaulús’s surname was in fact BALDUZ, a Navarrese surname which is not particularly widespread, but which still exists today. Indeed, the first mayor of Pamplona after the restoration of democracy in Spain was a BALDUZ.

I have also found the following information concerning Pedro’s parents, from which it can be inferred that:

  • The paternal surname was BALDUZ and the maternal surname CIORDIA. The distinction between C/Z and S was significant, as the former had a different sound from the latter. This distinction disappeared in the American territories, since many of the immigrants came from Andalusia, where, for the most part, C/Z and S were not distinguished in pronunciation.
  • Pedro Fernández de Balduz the Elder had

Estimado Héctor,

Mil gracias.

Arriaga in Villanueva, Zacatecas

Hello, I am searching for the line of Felipe Arriaga who was married to Regina Cervantes - also listed as Sandoval - from Villanueva, Zacatecas.

Update: looking over my family tree records I had not noticed earlier that Miguel Servantes; Regina's grandfather and also her grandmother Josepha Vasques were Otomi Indians. I found this information on their children's baptism records; which includes twins Juan and Juana who were born in Irapuato, Guanajuato in the very early 1700s. After reading about these Indigenous people I learned some groups inhabited in Guanajuato. I never thought I would find the name of one of the many Indian people I derived from since it does not show up on our DNA profiles. This tie to the Otomi people leads down to our Mercando and Arriaga lines from Zacatecas. Regina was married to Felipe Arriaga and their son was Sostenes Arriaga from Villanueva, Zacatecas.

Your welcome Cynthia. You have more information on Regina then you do on Felipe so I would work on finding a connection between the Sevantes and the Sandoval families and see if you can find a Regina in that line.

Good Luck,

I found Felipe Arriaga and Regina Cervantes' marriage record. I had to step back for awhile and then take another look at the records to see if I had missed anything. I had. One of their son's marriage record listed he originated from Silao. I had assumed that was a town in Villanueva until I searched Villanueva's marriage records again page by page and I found another sibling saying she was from Silao and she was born in 1807. She seemed to be the earliest born sibling so far, so I checked out the marriage records in Silao, Guanajuato which are not indexed and searched a couple of years before her birth and I found their 1805 marriage record listing parents. Felipe Arriaga's parents are Joseph Maria de Arriaga and Concepcion Vierra. Felipe Arriaga was born in San Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco. Joseph Maria was born in Leon, Guanajuato and his father was Joseph Antonio Arriaga married to Teresa Torres.

Yes, I found Sostenes Arriaga's marriage record dated April 17, 1839 to Francisca de los Santos in Villanueava, Zacatecas; listing him as 19 years old; making his birth year 1820. I found these siblings death records in Jerez - Mariano, Pedro and Juana - listing their birth ages from 1810 thru 1828 - varies. I searched for his parents marriage records in Villanueva from 1794 thru 1818 page by page, but I did not find one Arriaga in Villanueva even though the records say they are from this area. His father was Felipe Arriaga and his mother was Regina Servantes.

Dear colleagues,

I would like to share my latest historical study: "Los primeros pobladores de Santa María de los Lagos: una aproximación histórica a través de sus listados más antiguos" (The First Settlers of Santa María de los Lagos: A Historical Approach Through Its Earliest Records).

Using a prosopographical framework based on 16th and early 17th-century primary sources, including original registers, Cabildo memorials, and early censuses, this paper traces the rapid transformation of Santa María de los Lagos from a frontier defense outpost during the Chichimeca War into a consolidated landowning elite.

The research highlights the central role of matrilineages and marriage networks in preserving territorial holdings, alongside a quantitative reconstruction of the settlement's U-shaped demographic trajectory during its first four decades.

Ana de Quesada m. Miguel Hernández Rubio

Recently I posted about the three women named Ana de Quesada who were living in Lagos during roughly the same period.

One of these women was Ana de Quesada, who married Miguel Hernández Rubio in 1632. A WikiTree listing proposes that this Ana de Quesada may possibly have been the daughter of Juan López de Lizalde and Ana de Quesada. I assume this identification was based on her using the name “Ana Mendoza” in her daughter's parish marriage record.

I later posted a reply to my own message with an update after finding a possible candidate for this Ana de Quesada.

A Lagos burial record states:

4 Jan 1628: "died Diego Hurtado, son of Pedro Hurtado, vecino del Fresnillo, husband of Ana de Quesada, daughter of the elder Alonso de Quesada."

It establishes that Alonso de Quesada and, probably, Juana Bautista Hernández de Arellano had a daughter named Ana de Quesada.

This record also establishes that she was widowed in 1628, approximately four years before the marriage of Ana de Quesada (also known

The Legal Significance of Three Pruebas Plenas in Hispanic Nobiliary Law: The Case of the Reinoso Lineage

In the legal tradition of the Crown of Castile and the wider Iberian Peninsula, demonstrating hidalguía (blood nobility) required navigating a complex system of evidence under the jurisdiction of the Salas de los Hijosdalgo within the Reales Chancillerías (Valladolid and Granada).

Within Spanish nobiliary law (Derecho Nobiliario), proof of status fell broadly into two categories:

  1. Tres Actos Positivos (Presumptive Proof): In the absence of definitive judicial sentences, a family could establish noble status by presenting evidence of three consecutive generations exercising privileges exclusive to the noble estate, such as exemption from pechos (personal taxes), holding offices restricted to hidalgos, or serving in military campaigns. While legally valid, actos positivos represented administrative recognition rather than a definitive judicial ruling.

Hello Cynthia,

Thank you for sharing this information. I'm not decended to any of the parties mentioned in the dispensa you cited, but I do love hearing these sordid and interesting tales from yesteryear.

At a recent family gathering, we entertained everyone with stories about distant ancestors and relatives, including the lecherous Sebastián Pérez, Beatriz de Padilla's entanglement with the Inquisition, and the romance across the social divide between José Moreno de Ortega and Petrolina Ramírez.

I never would have known about these stories if it weren't for this forum.

So please, keep them coming!

Juan de Padilla Davila? Delgadillo? horro?

Hello everyone,
Back in Galveston after Ike, attempting to do a little genealogical research. I have been inspecting carefully the marriage record of Juan de Padilla and Petronila de Siordia (Thanks, Connie for the copy). Although as Connie mentioned, the copy is not good, I was able to digitally enhance it, and I am convinced that neither 'Davila' (suggested by Daniel) nor 'Delgadillo' (suggested by Connie) appear in the document after "Juan de Padilla". Instead, in my opinion it reads 'herro' or 'horro' -Note that at the time the letter 'h' was written more like a "S", thus in not uncommon to find transcriptions of surnames as 'Hinojosa' as 'Sinojosa'. I tried several searches for Herro (a Basque surname) in the "Catalogo de Pasajeros de Indias" en PARES, given that Juan is identified as 'Natural de Xerez' (Thus, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain). No matches. I entered 'Horro', and I found numerous records, all of them as far I could tell, linked to the racial descriptions of black

Hello Jaime,

The reference to “Xeres” is most likely to Jerez de la Frontera, in Andalusia, which had already been a city since 1267. In my experience, all references to Jerez (in the present-day state of Zacatecas) were made as “villa de Xeres” or “Xeres de la Nueva Galicia”, never simply “Xeres”. Although its official name was Xeres de la Frontera, “de la Nueva Galicia” was added to distinguish it from the Andalusian city and from a town in Central America with the same name.

On the other hand, it should be clarified that, despite its relative proximity to major mining centres such as Zacatecas, Fresnillo and Sombrerete, Jerez (Zacatecas) was not a mining town, but rather an agricultural one that supplied these three mining centres with agricultural produce.

Best regards,

Ronnie,
I am posting this edited version of the message I sent you this morning so that others at Nuestros Ranchos can also read it.
Earlier today, I sent you and Mary Lou a copy of the marriage document of Juan de Padilla and Petrona de Siordia to hear what she thinks. For my part, I can see where the "y Davila" may have come from. At the margin it reads "Juan de Padilla 'horro'? y Doña Petrona." Because of the writting style, the "y Doña" can easily be confused with "y Davila". If anyone would like to inspect a copy, please let me know.

Petrona de Siordia and Juan de Padilla

A month ago I found and requested the IGI record for the marriage of Juan de Padilla Sorro to Petrona de Siordia (misspelled Giordia in the IGI record), hoping to find additional information on this couple. The marriage took place in El Sagrario, Aguascalientes on 14 February 1616 (Batch M604761 Source Call 0299421). After an anxious wait today I received the reply that this record could not be found. I do not have access to that film at the local center to search it myself. Has anyone been able to locate this record? I would certainly appreciate a copy of the image or a transcript of the entire text.

Jaime,

The entry reads like this (except for the religious sacramental info common to most marriage entries). I have checked both my copy and that in Jose Luis Vazquez's book (p. 191).

By the way, I have already extracted this entire film, so if you need another look-up, perhaps I can help.Likewise, if you need an actual copy, let me know. Hope this is what you needed.

Question about Ana de Quesada (cc Miguel Hernández Rubio)

Hello, everyone!

I have a question concerning ancestor Ana de Quesada (born c. 1615, died before 22 November 1660), who married Miguel Hernández Rubio.

WikiTree suggests that her parents may have been Juan López de Lizalde and Ana de Quesada. Is there any evidence supporting this possible identification beyond her approximate date of birth and the fact that she is referred to as “Ana de Mendoza” in the marriage record of her daughter, María Rubio?

I'm trying to sort this out because we appear to have three ancestors named Ana de Quesada, all from Lagos and all living within approximately the same time period. It is becoming a bit confusing!

The three women are:

  • Ana de Quesada, married c. 1634 to Miguel Hernández Rubio
  • Ana de Quesada, whose first proven child was born in 1649 (Pedro b. 4 Nov 1649, padrinos: Pedro Gómez Portugal y Isabel Ortiz). This Ana de Quesada is possibly about ten years younger than the other two Anas or perhaps this was her second marriage; she married Gaspar Gómez de

Just found this.

4 Jan 1628: "died Diego Hurtado, son of Pedro Hurtado, vecino del Fresnillo, husband of Ana de Quesada, daughter of the elder Alonso de Quesada."

I'm assuming this refers to the Alonso de Quesada who married Juana Bautista Hernández de Arellano.

I believe I found the most likely candidate for the wife of Miguel Hernández Rubio.

Thank you

Postscript:

I'm especially interested to discover more about Ana de Quesada (cc Miguel Hernández Rubio). If she is indeed the daughter of Juan López de Lizalde and Ana de Quesada, then we will officially be descended from ALL the known daughters of Toribio Hernández de Arellano and Isabel de Mendoza.

That would be amazing.

Also, this may not mean anything but could be a clue to her identity, but I'm fairly certain the Ana de Quesada, who married Juan de Saavedra, was Española as their daughter, María de Saavedra , is referred to as Española in her baptismal record (1 October 1634). Ana de Quesada is referred to in that record as "Ana Alonso."

Thank you,

Travis

I need some clarity on Gómez Dispensas Confusion

Hello all!

I'm trying to untangle the relationship between three individuals: Joaquín Gómez, Gertrudis Gómez, and Antonio Gómez. WikiTree currently presents them as siblings—the children of an Unknown Gómez. The proposed relationships appear to be based primarily upon two dispensas from 1798 and 1780.

Gertrudis Gómez appears in both dispensas.

The first dispensa, dated November 1798, concerns the marriage of José Mariano Ysas and María Francisca Gómez. It gives the following relationships:

Gertrudis Gómez, hermana de Antonio Gómez
José Ysas, primo hermano de Gregorio Gómez
Andrés Ysas, primo segundo de Vicente Gómez
Pretenso José Mariano Ysas, primo tercero de María Francisca Gómez

The Gertrudis Gómez mentioned here is identified as the Gertrudis Gómez who married Ignacio de Isassi sometime before the 8 May 1710 baptism of their first documented child, Juan Antonio de Isassi.

Her purported brother, Antonio Gómez, is identified as Antonio Gómez, son of Gaspar Gómez and Magdalena de Gutiérrez AKA
