Gracias.

Thanks in advance. I believe I had already searched those links and didn´t find civil registration for the years I´m looking for but maybe I passed them by without noticing them so I´ll go ahead and take a look again. In any case, thanks for the heads up I´ll post later if I find what I´m looking for.

There are three groups. The research@nuestrosranchos.org group is
specifically for the discussion of genealogy that relates to the Mexican
states of Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.

With regards to who subscribes it can be anyone with roots in Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes that demonstrates they are serious about
their research. Currently the research@nuestrosranchos.org discussion board
shows a membership of 767 individuals.

The general@nuestrosranchos.org group is for discussion of genealogy that
might deviate to some degree from our target states but long and drawn out
discussions away from our focus are discouraged.

The announce@nuestrosranchos.org group is for announcements

obtaining a birth certificate at reasonable fee

How could I obtain the birth certificate of my father, born in Sombrerete, Zac. and baptized at the parroquia de San Juan Bautista?

Comentario

Hi,

In my own opinion, $200 USD is too much. The actual birth certificate should cost anywhere between $20-30 USD plus "person's time" & mailing cost.

The ideal scenario, would be if you had relatives in Sombrete and if they could do the process of requesting the Birth Certificate for your Father and then mail it to you. This is what my relatives have done when they need orginal Mexican birth certificates.

Your other option would be seeking advise or guidance at your local Mexican Consulate, they should be able to help you out.

To navigate there, rather than a direct link: go to https://www.familysearch.org/. Then scroll down to the "Mexico" link; this next page is in a somewhat adhoc/alphabetical order, so look through it carefully - the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 23rd links in the list are searchable records that have been transcribed by LDS for Census (1930), deaths, baptisms, and marriages respectively. There are SOME transcribed records for Aguascalientes in these searchable links. There are other links by state/territory as well, but Aguascalientes in not in the list.

The 7th link is "Mexico, Catholic Church Records" - these are scanned images of church record books - they contain far more than the searchable links above. If you click this link, you'll see a "Browse through 16,596,760 images" link. Click this link, then click on "Aguascalientes" (the state), then on "Aguascalientes" (the township/county). Then you'll see a list of church names or civil repositories. Click on the one you want, and now you can see the record collections by type and year. Have fun.

A short word - some of these record collections are indexed in the front of the book (if the church policy was to do so). It is usually indexed in chronological order and by first name. I found my wife's grandfather by searching the index pages of three sets of records (I didn't have his exact birthdate) - his first name was Joaquin, there were not that many entries with that name, so I eventually found his actual record further in the book.

Second, the records are sometimes very easy to read and sometimes not. For baptisms, they always start with the date, then some mumbo jumbo... "annointing with the oils of the Saints..., the the key words "hijo legitimo" - this is where you'll want to train your eye to focus. Also, bear in mind that in almost all cases, when they get to the edge of the page, they just pick up mid-word and continue on the next line (no hyphens).

Let me know if you have questions of troubles - have patience. I had to write down the entire alphabet in lower and upper case from the pages I was scanning as a key to reading the document - it just takes a little time.

Good luck,

Jerome Stofleth

Hello Pat,
Thanks to your informational site, I believe what I need from familytree DNA is the YDNA 37 -mt DNA Plus.  It goes for 299.00, however, if you participate in one of their projects, you're given a slight discount for 269.00.  I assume you receive the same info for 269. as for 299.
If anyone has done this, it would be great to read about your level of satisfaction.  Thanks so much.  Alice

Hi Alice,

The information received, whether you pay $299.00 or $269.00 would be the same as outlined in the informational description for that test combination. The discount is being offered when participating in one of the Projects.

All the FamilyTree DNA testing done for my family over the years has been to my satisfaction. Their service representatives have always been very helpful.

I will continue to use FamilyTree DNA in the future for any additional testing.

Aguascalientes-Records

Hello Everyone, I guess I was not paying attention but where can I find Aguascalientes records on familyseach.org/collection/list.

Announce Digest, Vol 77, Issue 5

This is a late reply to Randy McNeal's message. I too just received a partial results on my Y-DNA testing. I too am surprised at
the conclusions of the test results.

Below is a brief article that may explain the Scottish, Irish, English showing up in your DNA

Irish origin myths confirmed by modern scientific evidence
One of the oldest texts composed in Ireland is the Leabhar Gabhla, the Book of Invasions. It tells a semi-mythical history of the waves of people who settled in Ireland in earliest time. It says the first settlers to arrive in Ireland were a small dark race called the Fir Bolg, followed by a magical super-race called the Tuatha de Danaan (the people of the goddess Dana).

Most interestingly, the book says that the group which then came to Ireland and fully established itself as rulers of the island were the Milesians - the sons of Mil, the soldier from Spain. Modern DNA research has actually confirmed that the Irish are close genetic relatives of the people of northern Spain.

While it might seem strange that Ireland was populated from Spain rather than Britain or France, it is worth remembering that in ancient times the sea was one of the fastest and easiest ways to travel. When the land was covered in thick forest, coastal settlements were common and people travlleled around the seaboard of Europe quite freely.

Comentario

The DNA that is in common between the Spanish and the Irish is R1b Y-DNA. This DNA is the most common throughout Western Europe and not just Ireland and Spain. Rolando tested positive for R1b1a2 shorthand R-M269 which from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_R1b_%28Y-DNA%29#R1b1a2_.28R-M26… "The frequency is about 71% in Scotland, 70% in Spain and 60% in France. In south-eastern England the frequency of this clade is about 70%; in parts of the rest of north and western England, Spain, Portugal, Wales and Ireland, it is as high as 90%; and in parts of north-western Ireland it reaches 98%. It is also found in North Africa, where its frequency surpasses 10% in some parts of Algeria.[29]

That means a significant number of people from Scotland, Spain, France, England, Portugal, Wales, and Ireland have common ancestry. Based on calculations of mutation rates the common ancestor lived 9,500 years ago. Based on posts by Dienekes at http://dienekes.blogspot.com/ there were people that populated Western Europe about 5,000 years ago that were farming based bronze age warriors. The Y-DNA R1b was most likely among these groups of farming based bronze age warriors. So the common ancestors of all the people in Scotland, Spain, France, England, Portugal, Wales, and Ireland that have R1b1a2 shorthand R-M269 Y-DNA have a common ancestor between 9,500 and 5,000 years ago.

The myths found in a book written in the 11th century cannot explain what science (anthropology, archaeology, and DNA) shows to have happened about 5,000 years ago. That is 3,000 years before the Roman Empire and 2,500 years before the Classical Greek period.

From http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2012/08/proto-indo-european-homeland-in.ht…

Y-haplogroups J2, and R1 so conspicuously absent from Neolithic Europe down to 5ka (and in the case of J2, completely missing from the record altogether) must have entered Europe at some point. Did they take the fast train into Europe post-5ka, or did they lurk in both Anatolia and Europe pre-5ka? Thanks to the BEAN project we might find out.

The idea that ~5ka something happened in Europe is also supported by the paper:

Despite support for an Anatolian Indo- European origin, we think it unlikely that agriculture serves as the sole driver of language expansion on the continent. The five major Indo-European subfamilies—Celtic, Germanic, Italic, Balto-Slavic, and Indo-Iranian—all emerged as distinct lineages between 4000 and 6000 years ago (Fig. 2 and fig. S1), contemporaneous with a number of later cultural expansions evident in the archaeological record, including the Kurgan expansion (5–7).

I would highly reccomend reading, The Origins of the British, A Genetic Detective Story by Stephen Oppenheimer.
There is a very interesting chapter which discusses the Celts - the Irish, Scots and Welsh - Stephen Oppenheimer's genetic synthesis shows the majority to have arrived via the Atlantic coastal route from Ice Age refuges including the Basque country; with the modern languages we call Celtic arriving later. Oppenhiemer follows individual genes from samples collected from people living in small, long-established towns, whose grandparents had also lived there rather than whole populations. The geographical distribution of individual gene lines is analysed with respect to their position on a gene tree, to reconstruct their origins, dates and routes of movement.

The book is a fairly easy read and his findings are based on archaeology, anthropology and genetic research.
Oppenheimer is with The Bradshaw Foundation based in Geneva.

Stephen Oppenheimer wrote his book in 2006. There have been a lot of advances in Y-DNA since then. Also in order to say the Irish were direct descendants of Spaniards or Iberians there would have to be SNPs found only in the two areas or ifalso found in other areas there should be proof that where ever the SNPs were found there is proof that all of these people were directly related. According to what I have read about the book Stephen Oppenheimer does not provide that proof. He only makes assumptions or a hypothesis and not a proven scientific theory.

Also, Stephen Oppenheimer used Y-STR data for his assumption. Dienekes shows us Why Y-STR haplotype clusters are not clades http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2008/10/why-y-str-haplotype-clusters-are-n…

The following document shows the Y-DNA data that Oppenheimer used - http://www.jogg.info/32/campbell.pdf

In it we can see that at the time Oppenheimer wrote his book they used haplogroups descriptors of a maximum of 7 characters. If you look those up in ysearch.org you will see that they are now using the 12 character subclade descriptor of R1b1a2a1a1b4 shorthand L21. You can see a list of people that tested positive for L21 at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/R-L21/default.aspx?section=ycoloriz…

According to a post at the following site http://www.eupedia.com/forum/showthread.php?25404-The-Origin-of-L21 this subclade first arose in Germany or France.

Per Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_R1b_%28Y-DNA%29 Myres et al. report it is most common in England and Ireland (25-50% of the whole
male population).[7]

You can see a map of the distribution of L21 at http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#L21

According the the following table it

According to the table found at http://www.iberianroots.com/statistics/spain.html there are only 22 out of 2,473 Spaniards that tested positive for L21. If they were the ancestors of the Irish they should have a higher percentage of people that test positive for this.

Using all of the previous data we know the assumption or hypothesis that Stephen Oppenheimer came up with is not very likely. I would recommend against reading his book. I would recommend keeping up with Dienekes blog that includes links to the scientific studies he comments on. I would also suggest getting Deep Clade tests when getting Y-DNA tests. The new Genographic project will also test for SNPs. https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/

Armando, thanks for your assessment, I have been looking for updated information on Oppenheimer's theory, in a form that isn't written for geneticists (which is what attracted me to his studies to begin with.)

Even though I will have to print your message and get my DNA cheat sheet out to figure out what you said, I did get the message that DNA testing has come a long way since Oppenheimer wrote his book and that his theory hasn't held up over the years.

Comentario

Thanks Randy and Armando - Your leads, advice, info have been extremely helpful. The more that I learn the more I realize how much further I need to study. I am going to acquire Oppenheimer's book, even if it is outdated. I am obtaining books on DNA in order to understand the terminology.

I hope to pursue more DNA testing in the future but I am still working on understanding what has already been revealed.

Comentario

Rolando,

Your money would have been better spent on a Deep Clade test. That way you could know where you fall on the on R1b tree and you could also join a project belonging to that subclade.

http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#R1b-subclades

Oppenheimer's book will only cause confusion.

As far as all of the people that you have 12 marker matches with. All that is known by scientists is that there was a change from Neolothic hunter-gatherers to Bronze age farmers about 5,000 years ago and that there is no evidence of R1 prior to 5,000 years ago. Therefore the R1 haplogroups were most likely the ones that took farming and bronze age weapons to all of Western Europe, including Spain, Ireland, Scandinavia, France, Grmany, etc. These are our ancestors and the ancestors of the people you have a match with. A Deep Clade test will narrow the the number people you are related to.

Armando

Comentario

Randy,

You should also get a Y-DNA test from FamilyTreeDNA and then a Deep Clade test so you can see first hand with your own DNA what is going on.

The autosomal DNA tests from Ancestry.com, 23andme, and FamilytreeDNA are very generalized and include naming a certain groups that isn't proven. If they had autosomal DNA from skeletons from every one hundred years going back 5,000 years or more in multiple areas and had autosomal DNA that was specific to a certain area then they could use the naming that they have. But they don't have that. Therefore, it is all conjecture for the names of the nationalities that they use. At least 23andme allows people to see the DNA that is matched with others. If you are going to get an autosomal test they are the best to go with. However, it seems the new Genographic 2.0 test will encompass Y-DNA, mt-DNA and autosomal. I would like to see a comparison of their results against the other testing.

Armando

Comentario

Armando, I am looking at also getting the National Geographic test, because of your past postings on this subject for that very reason.

My main interest in the Basque Celt DNA is I am affraid my results may come back very confusing because of my Celt and Spanish ancestry.

Comentario

Randy, The National Geographic test does seem to be the best for those that haven't done previous testing or for those that have done Y-DNA but not mt-DNA and Autosomal testing. I'd still like to see a comparison of the autosomal results with those of 23andme. However, doing both is very expensive.

Celt and Spanish Y-DNA is actually the same. They share ancestors. What we don't know is who specifically the ancestors were and at what specific time there was a divergence. Only averages can be used but averages aren't definitive. Maybe in time they will find remains of people they can test and it will answer who descends from who.

You are most likely going to be R1b but you'll also want the subclade (Deep Clade) so you know where you fall on the R1b tree - http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#R1b-subclades

Since your living uncle and some male cousins on your mothers side are Reynoso, and are the ones with Y-DNA in Los Altos, you should also see if they are willing to do the Geno 2.0 test. Preferably your uncle, that way any autosomal testing deals only with DNA from Los Altos. Then you can compare your test with his to see what is from your father's side and what is from your mother's side.

Armando

Comentario

Randy, I don't know if you noticed that I had written in a different thread that the National Geographic Geno 2.0 SNP test will do Deep Ancestry (Haplogroup identification) testing but not STR Y37/Y67/Y111 tests. Therefore, a Y-DNA 37 marker test from FamilytreeDNA is recommended along side the National Genographic Geno 2.0 SNP test. Hopefully you are able to do the Y-DNA STR 37 marker test also.

A Y-DNA 37 marker match will tell you if you are related to another person within about 20 generations, which could be about 500 years.

The National Geographic Geno 2.0 SNP test will tell you which subclade you belong to. Other people in the same subclade could be related to you within about 5,000 years or less. A subclade is downstream of a haplogroup.

http://dna-explained.com/2012/07/26/geno-2-0-qa-with-bennett-greenspan/

http://seqanswers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22004

Rolando Romo took the 37 marker test. He had questions about people with 12 marker matches which is just a haplogroup and goes back about 9,000 years. He needs a Deep Clade SNP test to reduce it to a subclade that is about 5,000 years old. That can be done with FamilytreeDNA or with the National Geographic Geno 2.0

I recently visited the Tlaltenango area for the first time, and I did confirm that the ranch in reference is El Rancho de La Era and not Loera or Ena. It still exists, outside of Tlaltenango.

Comentario

Another interesting find that confirms your suspicion that the Pedro Herreras in Rancho de Loera are not your Prudencio Herrera...

There is a Prudencio Herrera, soltero who appears in the census under Rancho de Michaela Ponce, but just squeezed in at the end and the next rancho is none other than Rancho de las Ranas, where there appear two sets of Herrera brothers: Juan Antonio Herrera married to Lugarda de los Santos Orozco and Juan Pedro Herrera; and Luis Florencio Herrera married to Maria Tiburcia Perez de Texeda and Cayetano Valerio.

I am pretty certain that the two sets of brothers are all siblings and they are listed with their grandmother Petra Roldana, viuda. I know that the father of this second set of brothers was Cayetano Marin de Herrera and their mother was Ana Santiago de Llamas.

I know that Petra Roldana was mother of Cayetano Marin de Herrera through a marriage dispensation from Luz Montejano's book. I also know that Juan Pedro Herrera and Cayetano Valerio were brothers because their baptism records show the same parents, see IGI 12 Sep 1738 and 1 Mar 1736 baptisms or in my Tlaltenango families database.

Prudencio is likely related to these brothers, perhaps their uncle and also a son of Petrona Roldana?

WOW....thanks so much...we were right! What year was this census recorded?
Does it say how old Nicolasa was?

Just curios...were there many other surnames that you were able to find
under both these ranchos.

Going back through the census I am extracting there is another bit of information that might be helpful for you. In the same Rancho de los Loera where the first set of Pedro Herreras are found, there is the San Martin Estrada Magallanes family. The father is already passed away but the mother Maria Elena Magallanes is there with several children including Nicolasa San Martin:

She was from the _________ dela Ena?
His father was Luis Marin Herrera and mother Maria Roza Serrano (both
deceased by 1757)
Her father was Gregorio San Martin Estrada and Maria Elena Magallanas

The census reads under Rancho de los Loera:

Maria Elena, viuda
Gregrio San Martin, su hijo
Vicente San Martin, su hijo
Julian Antonio San Martin, su hijo
Casimiro San Martin, su hijo
Nicolasa San Martin, su hija

I was noticing that I may be distantly related to Maria Elena Magallanas that you described from the Census.

This is from information that I have collected from IGI:

Anttonio DE MAGALLANES married Gregoria MIRAMONTES daughter of Juan DE MIRAMONTES and Maria DE AVILA on 14 Jun 1705 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

They had the following children:
i. Juan Joseph MAGALLANES MIRAMONTES was christened on 12 Apr 1705 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
ii. Hanjelina Figenia MAGALLANES MIRAMONTES was christened on 3 Jun 1708 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
iii. Maria Elena MAGALLANES MIRAMONTES was christened on 8 Apr 1711 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
iv. Po. Fabio MAGALLANES MIRAMONTES was christened on 8 Sep 1722 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
v. Antonio Sipriano MAGALLANES.
Antonio Sipriano married Juana GAETA ALMEDA daughter of Thomas DE GAETA and Maria DE ALMEDA on 15 May 1749 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. Juana was christened on 17 Oct 1729 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Maria Elena's father Anttonio De Magallanes had a brother, Joseph De Magallanes, who is my direct ancestor. Here is the information I have for his family.

Joseph DE MAGALLANES married Maria Lucrecia MARIN DE HERRERA on 30 Mar 1705 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

They had the following children:
i. Xpttobal MAGALLANES HERRERA was christened on 7 Jun 1705 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
ii. Maria Lucrecia MAGALLANES HERRERA was christened on 30 Oct 1707 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

vi. Santiago Gerbacio MAGALLANES HERRERA was christened on 26 Jul 1722 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
vii. Casimiro Guillermo DE MAGALLANES.
Casimiro Guillermo married Juana Getrudis MARTINEZ CORREA daughter of Andres Martines CORREAS and Thomasa GONSALEZ on 3 Feb 1741 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.
viii. Juan Coronado MAGALLANES.
Juan married Maria Anttonia Margarita RAIGOSA daughter of Marcos DE RAIGOSA and Anna DE SANTIAGO on 31 Jul 1741 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

I wonder if Joseph Magallanes' wife, Maria Lucrecia Marin De Herrera is related to the family of Maria Elena Magallanes husband?

Helyn, these are the same Magallanes family that you and I share right?

Arturo, did you happen to see any of the above Magallanes familes listed in the census?

Thanks for the information,

These are the Magallanes listed in the census. Note, these are only the persons who have a surname explicitly listed. Often times the surnames are omitted from the list of children's names after they are listed for the father and/or mother...

Antonio
Bernardo
Christobal
Feliciana
Felix
Florencia
Francisca
Gertrudis
Gregorio Antonio
Joseph
Juana Justa

The main cluster of Magallanes is listed under El Rancho de Santa Cruz de la Guardia alias El Rincon de Correas, where Christobal Magallanes is listed with his wife Ysabel Correa and their children.

Thanks, I do have that family of Christobal, but I don't have him linked to anyone. I am not sure if he is the same Xpttobal baptized in 1705. But I am related to the Correas (Ysabel's parents are in my direct line) and so have him listed with that family.

This is from information that I have collected from IGI:

Christoval DE MAGALLANES married Ysabel CORREA GONSALEZ daughter of Andres Martines CORREAS and Thomasa GONSALEZ. Ysabel was christened on 16 Feb 1711 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

They had the following children:

vii. Josseph Juachin MAGALLANES CORREAS was christened on 25 Mar 1752 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico.

Heyln sent me a bunch of information on the Magallanes family a while back and I am still trying to read through it all...and grasp all the different connections...

I am trying to figure out where they all were born??? Although both
Prudencio and Nicolaza are listed as "Espanoles", I truly doubt they were born in
Spain....

The reason I think that Prudencio might have been married several times is
that in batch number C607125, film number 443811 - a grandaughter born in 1817
(Maria Felipa de los Dolores) was born to PRUDENCIO HERRERA and MANUELA
ESTRADA and RODUCINDO DE ROBLES and PAULINA CABALLERO - the father was LUIS
HERRERA and RUFINA ROBLES. Additionally, there was another granchild born in 1825
with the same data: Jose Andres Herrera Robles - same parents.

But then in 1829, once again a grandchild was born Jose Francisco Herrera
Robles to Luis Herrera, and it states that the grandparents were Prudencio
Herrera and Paula Estrada.

Luis Herrera (son of Prudencio) was a widower when he married Rufina de
Robles.

Comentario

Espanoles definitely does not mean they were born in Spain. It is simply a caste designation... so they were of the second-highest caste (next to peninsular, which would designate someone born in Spain). When someone is born in Spain, they go out of the way to mention it (as that would make them penisular) and state where in Spain they were born ... something like "natural de Madrid en los Reinos de Castilla"

I am still reading that Tlaltenango Marriage film from the 1600s and will keep my eyes open for any other "Marin de Herrera." Perhaps Luis was a brother of Cayetano?

Break through!!! Your suggestion that Marin Herrera was a surname was
extremely helpful.

Luis Marin Herrera married in 1733 Maria Rosa Serrano one of the parents

I did see a Luis Marin Llamas born in 1731, whose father was Cayetano Marin

Cayetano were related...

Thanks so much for your insight. Now, back to work.

might be very different than what you are talking about. If so please
shelf this diversion and we can talk about it after others reply with
those specific unfilmed records are discussed. I just can't remember

On my wish list---below is a list of records available at different
archives but not available through the LDS on microfilm (at least
according to Dr. Lyman Platt):

Fresnillo Padron 1770 AAG

Fresnillo Padron 1772-1773 AGI Guadalajara 348

Sombrerete Padron 1777 AGI Indiferentes 1526

Tlaltenango:

According to Dr. Platt the 1772-1777 is available at: AGI
Guadalajara 348 (not sure if the above film includes this one but I
would think it doesn't since Dr. Platt didn't reference that film

AND especially since 160 years of the records are missing
from Zacatecas, Zacatecas between 1679-1839 I'd love to have:

Zacatecas Padron 1770  AAG

Zacatecas Padron 1772 AGI Guadalajara 348

Zacatecas Padron 1794 AAG

oh and how can I forget, but going back to Jalisco:

Colotlan Padron 1760 AGI Guadalajara 401

Colotlan Padron 1770 BPT 45

AAG = Archivo del Arzobispado de Guadalajara, Mexico

AGI = Archivo General de Indias, Seville, Spain

BPT = Biblioteca Publica de Toledo, Spain Usually referring to

its parrish is part of the Diocese of Zacatecas and geographically it

As far as all of the other documents that you mention, those are all in

Señor Sánchez:

Mi número es +1-202-460-4589 (móvil) o +1-202-429-1515 (oficina). No

Me

Message from Arturo Ramos arturo.ramos2@...

I just got off the phone with Mr. Sanchez and yes, they do have a
filiming team down in Zacatecas now and are simply trying to get the
exact information re: the location and condition of the records that
they might film.

Let us cross our fingers and see if we can make this a reality. It
would be a big boon to our efforts.

If anybody else knows of records other than Colotlan and Jerez in the
region of Zacatecas that are not filmed, please contact Mr. Sanchez and
give him the details ASAP.

Hello Grupo,
I'm looking into the Familytree DNA testing, specifically the Family Finder for close genealogy and the YDNA 37+mtDNAPlus.  I'm not an expert genealogist (not by a long shot) and not knowledgable of indepth DNA testing in general.  The choices are very confusing to me and I'm wary of paying for too much information not usable to me.  I know I want both maternal and paternal results, including the ancestral makeup percentages info for both.  I'd appreciate input from those who have used either one or another of the Familytree DNA products and whether or not you were satisfied with the results or got TMI.
Thanks so much for your help.     Alice

Alice and "Grup,"

One thing that I did learn today by contacting FamilyTree DNA was that the FamilyFinder Test results are only compared with others that have taken the FamilyFinder Test and not with those that may have been previously YDNA or mtDNA tested.

I have a situation of 5 members of my family linked by a paper trail to a direct line common male ancestor, but their YDNA test results reflect 4 that match (marker and halplogroup)and one that does not, his is a completely different haplogroup...

I'm being told that in order to proceed with trying to establish lineage,(if any) FamilyFinder testing would need to be done for the one that did not match and one (or all) of the 4 that did. Each person would need to be tested using the FamilyFinder test, even though all 5 have been previously YDNA tested by FamilyTree DNA.

I think in my situation, at this time the FamilyFinder test may or may not prove beneficial, plus it's the added expensive for at least two members to be tested that concerns me when they have already been previously YDNA tested...

Over the past few days I have done a few searches to compare costs. I was
already aware of what FamilyTreeDNA offered. However over the past few
years 23andme has become popular and now National Genographic Geno 2.0
project has started.

You are looking at taking three different tests for all of the info you say
you want. YDNA 37+mtDNAPlus would be two of them for $269.00. Family Finder
(Autosomal SNP) test for $289.00 would be the 3rd to get ancestral makeup
percentages. It won't tell you the which side has the ancestral percentage.
They can only tell you a combined percentage. If you are going to get a
Y-DNA 37 STR maker test you are also going to want a Deep Clade test which
I paid an extra $89 for and $29 for an SNP specific test.

I haven't tested with 23andme but I believe they do the following - a Y-DNA
Deep Clade, Autosomal SNP, and an MT-DNA ancestry test for $299 . They do
not do the Y-DNA 37 STR marker test. They do not have the projects that
FamilytreeDNA does. They will not match people on the 37 marker Y-DNA test
because they don't do that test.

National Genographic Geno 2.0 does Y-DNA Deep Ancestry, MT-DNA, and an
Autosomal SNP test for $199.95. It doesn't do Y-STR testing and it doesn't
do cousin matching in Family Finder Autosomal SNP even though all of the
tests are done by FamilytreeDNA for National Genographic Geno 2.0

Depending on what you want the most and how much you want to spend is going
to determine what you should get. Personally I would place a higher
priority on a $149.00 Y-DNA STR 37 marker test with FamilyTreeDNA and a
$199.95 Deep Clade test with National Genographic Geno 2.0. which would
also give you an MT-DNA ancestry, and an Autosomal SNP test. This comes out
to $348.95. It is more informative than the 23andme test in some aspects
for only $49.95 more.

Armando

Hola,

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/19107

Saludos,
Armando

Gracias por tu respuesta Armando

Si me gustaria compartir informacion.

saludos JulietaMartha

Hello Ive been looking at Marriage records in Atotonilco el Alto and I found the marriage of a Miguel Tomas Sanchez Flores from Lagos de Moreno with Maria Antonia Diaz from La Soledad, Atotonilco el Alto. Could this be Antonias first marriage before Miguel Angulo or is Miguel Tomas Sanches Miguel Angulo under an alias. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Gracias,

Antonio:

In the Census:

D. Marcelo Madera

Da. Juana Ramirez

The D. stands for the title "Don" and the Da. stands for "Dona"

Can someone tell me what is significance of those titles back then in 1828?

Comentario

I usually don't consider Don a title, more a style. Usually back then
it was only reserved for the "well known", local elite, church
clergymen, hidalgos or nobles. I think the word hijosdalgo is perfect
hijo de algo "son of something." Someone who was esteemed or
respected in any case.

In your case with your ancestors they owned the Rancho de Madera.
So they belonged to the land-owning class.

I hope this helps a bit.

There are a lot of Ranchos and also the census of Huejuquilla. I did not have the time to make copies of all of them as also there was someone using the only Digital Copier. So I managed to make copies of Rancho De Los Maderas.

VILLALOBOS VELAZQUEZ de Lagos

Comentarios

Comentario

Saludos.
