Researcher for Zacatecas

Arturo,

Oh, how I wish I could go with you to see that researcher.  My father
was related to both the De La Torres and Berumens and collaterally to the
Haros.  Maybe he could help me find records on my father and his
mother.  My husband is related to the De Leons in Jalisco.  Soon I
will be updating and posting my husband's tree, and I will send a link to it on
World Connect.

A few days prior to the meeting, just out of the blue, I sent an e-mail to Robert in Sacramento, asking if he knew the three people I had mentioned, with his same surname. Robert responded that the names were of his grandparents, and his aunt. Needless to say, I got "goose bumps" when I read his message.

Roberts grandparents, and my parents had been friends for many years,  but sadly, lost touch after the "war years". The third person in my inquiry, is his aunt, which we have now realized is Godmother to Robert, my sister, and me.

We had e-mails transmitting twice a day, then I realized that Roberts father is my sisters Godfather. Robert made arrangements for a second reunion of the day with his family.
Our Nina invited Alicia, and me for a reunion dinner, with her family including Roberts father, his uncle, and aunt

remember her talking about being born in "Minillas de Jerez" in 1903.
She found out that there were no records for that period when she tried to

John, approximately 12 years ago I met a gentleman
from the Somos Primos genealogical group at the
Westwood Latter Day Saints library. I don't remember
his name but he was a distant relative of my wife
Rebeca Gutierrez Gonzalez; although she did not
remember him. He told me he also was from the same
Gonzales-Casillas family branch from Los Altos, like
my wife.

He helped me to interpret a 1797 Jerez marriage
document written in Spanish. Anyway, this gentleman
had genealogical charts of over 2200 past relatives
that started in Los Altos and went all the way back to
to the year 1200 in Spain.

If you are able contact him, I'm sure he would be more
that happy to share his findings with you. Also, the
gentlemen looked like an Anglo (typical of many of
those from Los Altos, fair, tall, blue eyes); his
English and Spanish were excellent and he seemed very
well educated, and friendly. He told me that he lived
in San Fernando Valley and was a software programmer.

Is anyone on this list familiar enough with Guadalajara to have
information on this chocolateria?

La Sultana Gran Chocolateria, Molino y Tostador De
Cafe. It was located Av. Alvaro Obregon 295 in Guadalajara. Aurelio

Reyes, Villasenor is also on the letterhead. It was established in
1900. My parents were there in 1941. I believe it was owned by

Adolfo de la Torre owned several ranches around Guadalajara and

Her parents were:  Preciliano Cerros and Apolonia

the back of my mind.

I am almost ready to start  researching her side of

John,

The link sent by Jose Munoz was of great interest to me because my
husband's maternal grandfather was a Chihuahua (Ciudad de Chihuahua) policeman,
a "federal", born in 1853, died in 1951, chased "el Indio Victorio" all over the
place, never caught him.  I have one picture of him in his uniform, which
is very, very different from the ones worn by Leticia's ancestors (it looks more
like the uniform worn by the soldiers of the Confederate States of America in
the 1860's, light colored with a cap).  Unfortunately, in the picture, he
is seated holding one of his infant daughters and his left breast is obscured by
the child, so I can't see a badge.  The photo is very faint in some places,
but I can make out the insignia on the cap clearly:  it is two light
colored bars (vertical----gold or silver?) with a dark bar in the middle.
The insignia on the shoulder is too faint to make out.  My husband is

John,

So your grandmother was born in Jerez in 1903 and you say the records were
"destroyed"?  My father was born in Jerez also in 1903, and when we went
there to try to get a birth record the priest at the church told him that the
records for 1903 had been "burned"  (I presumed that happened around
1910-1916 when my father and his father left Mexico forever because the fighting
was so horrendous there during the Revolution.  What were you told about
how the records were destroyed?  Please let me know if you find anything on
those born in Jerez in 1903.  I recently posted a link to my
Olague-Tinajero [Felix] tree that I updated on World Connect.  Did you see
it?

My maternal grandmother was Gorgonia Garcia and her parents were Ignacio
Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez. I have not found a thing on them yet
in the IGI, and I am assuming they were from Jerez, since my father Guadalupe
Olague was born there, but his father Francisco Olague was born, as were all his
