> Hello Maria,
Do the two volumes that you have mention the Romero, de la Torre,
Pena, and Camarena families? Is the book written in Spanish only?
In 1591, 400 families left Tlaxcala to colonize the northern lands of the Chichimecas. Some of them reached Zacatecas. I believe some of them went north to New Mexico with Juan de Onate in 1598.
I am not sure if you ever found this website, but I found it very helpful to anyone who can trace their lineage this far back into New Spain's early history.
The following is a link to the list of men who were a part of Don Juan de Onate's original expedition and subsequent re-enforcements.
Yes, I have known about it for several years now. I used to e-mail back and forth with Gary and he was very helpful. My Olague ancestors are on his Onate lists, as well as my Marquez ancestors.
One thing I want to do one of these days is to send in my DNA for Gary's DNA of Mexico project. Did you read abut that?

Yes, I have read about that. His website is quite informative actually.
Although, what would have made a good addition is possible lists of those colonists and soldiers that were part of the reconquest of New Mexico in the 1690's.
Has anyone happened to come across that sort of information?
I know this is going out of the geographic area, but considering many of Onate's troops came from this area, perhaps many of the colonists and troops came from this area as well to reconquore New Mexico. After all, Chihuahua and the settlements of the Rio Grande in particular were suffering from constant Native American attacks to have composed the majority of the Spanish forces.
I just found out that a census was conducted of the 400 families on July 6, 1591 at San Juan del Rio, Qro. Do any of you know where I can find this census so that I can study the census?
I want to compare the names on this census to the names recorded as the founders of San Gabriel del Yunque, New Mexico in 1598.
My source of information is "La Migracion Tlaxcalteca del Siglo XVI" by Rosalba Delgadillo Torres, 2007. Posted on the web at ccdeentornos.blogspot.com/2007/09/great-indian-migration-transferring.html

Stanley,
You are a goldmine.......a wealth of information on the families and History of Nuevo Mexico.
Your subject matter intrigues me because I too have a great deal of curiosity about the families of New Mexico and their relations to Zacatecas.
Last year at the local Wells Fargo Bank, while closing on a loan, our loan agent whose surname was Muños, with Blonde hair and blue eyes. Because I have several Muños family lines, I asked him where his ancestors were from and he said his father was from New Mexico but his great grandparents had been from Zacatecas. He didn't know what part of Zacatecas they were from. He was born and raised in Huntington Beach Ca but he remembers that in his youth, they would visit the family in New Mexico and he would hear the stories of Zacatecas.
I have ordered a couple of books on New Mexico just recently from Better World Books as I would like to read up on the history. You have piqued my curiosity and I will definitely follow up on some of your resources. Thanks for this great topic.

What you found is different article by Rosalba Delgadillo Torres and is written in English. The other article is written in Spanish. I made a mistake and copied the wrong source. The correct source is:

I wonder if some of these Tlaxcaltecas were my ancestors. Some of the families settled in Parras, Coahuila, very near the border with Zacatecas, when the city was founded in 1598: http://www.lag.uia.mx/acequias/acequias19/a19p12cofradias.html
One of the branches of my family comes from Parras, and I recently found some marrige certificates from the early 1800's where some of my ancestors are identified as "indios", although they don't mention any specific tribe.
Also we did some mtDNA testing in the family and according to the results my two great grandmothers form Parras were from American Indian descent (American as in the Continent) through direct maternal line, but again we don't know from which specific Indian Nation or tribe.
Victoriano Navarro
My mtDNA lists haplogroup A - native american.
One of the sources I found listed Santa Maria de las Parras [today Parras de la Fuente] as being colonized by the Tlaxcalans. Could this be the same place?
Stanley A Lucero
Madera, CA
Yes, Sta. Ma. de las Parras (today Parras de la Fuente) is the same place where my ancestors come from, Parras, Coahuila. The mtDNA of my Parras branches is "Haplogroup C". My own is also "A", but I trace it to Mexico City in the 1800's.
Victoriano Navarro
My Haplogroup A stops with Maria Dolores Quintana, born about 1850, in Tesuque, New Mexico.
Stanley A Lucero
My ancestors came from General Cepeda( indirectly Parras), and in Nuevo Leon( near Caderetya & Monterrey).
Did we match?

Hi Esther,
Neither of the two Haplogroup C samples from my Parras family has any matches in the FTDNA page.
The results are posted online:

Kits N25630 Gertrudis Gonzalez; b.1880 & N32299 Feliciana Rendon, b.ca. 1874, Parras, Coah, Mexico
I have also traced one of my ancestors to General Cepeda (Hacienda de los Patos): Jose Cecilio, b. 1833, son of Pedro Rodriguez & Ma Gertrudis Valdes. He moved to Parras and by reviewing church records it seems to me that he used the surnames Rodriguez and Menchaca and for some reason all his children used the surname Menchaca when they grew up. I hope to confirm this when I start looking at civil records for the family.

Victoriano Navarro
Hello Victoriano - I have trace my Mtdna Haplogroup A to Ayo El Chico (Ayotlan) Jalisco, Mexico. At least that is where I traced my mother's ancestry to as far back as the 1600's.
I haven't done much family history research lately but is there a way to find out whether the Mdtna for Indigenous tribes of Mexico are mapped by state?
I did take notice by the way when I saw the latest information posted on the Tlaxcaltecas. I have several ancestors who were in the Spanish military whom I have traced to San Juan Del Rio. They were Valenzuelas/DeLaRivas/Mendozas. I haven't submitted this info to Nuestors yet but it is posted on Ancestry.com.
thanks, Yolanda

Hi Yolanda,
As far as I know there is no map linking mtDNA results to indigenous tribes by state, I would love to see one.

Hi Yolanda,
Actually in the three webpages I mentioned in the bottom they have maps indicating the place of origin of the most distant ancestor of the people tested for the different haplogroups. You can zoom in the maps and select haplogroups to show. Ancestry.com has similar maps in the DNA section.

Here are some of the directions the 400 families took.
1591, July 6 – When the 400 Tlaxcalan families migrating northward reached the San Juan River, they were greeted by Rodrigo de Rio de Loza, governor of Nueba Viscaya, who divided the families into six groups for six different destinations:
1. Asuncion Tlaxcalilla
2. San Miguel Mezquitic
3. Augua del Venado, near Potosi
4. San Esteban de Nueva Tlaxcala near Saltillo
5. Colotlan
6. San Andres
I believe the census of the 400 families is in an archive in San Luis Potosi, since Miguel de Caldera was the person who arranged their migration to the Gran Chichimeca. The 100 families who ended up in Colotlan are detailed in one of Esteban Valdes Salazar's Totatiche history books. I think 100 families settled in Mezquitic and I am not certain of where the other 200 families ended up... likely somewhere in Zacatecas as you mention. I will try to find more specific information about where the census is published.
There is a beautiful letter from the Viceroy Luis de Velasco to King Rey Felipe II dated 26 June 1591 which describes the arrangement of the migration of these families and his visit to their caravan as they passed outside of Mexico City on their way from Tlaxcala to the Gran Chichimeca.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Cristero movement in Los Altos de Jalisco
Hello -- I believe the following account refers to my great grandfather, Mariano Gutierrez, who was killed during the Cristero movement in San Miguel el Alto, Jal.
[21 Nov 1927]
. . . naturally I went directly to the microfilms to view death records for this date. Unfortunately, on 22 Oct 1926, there is a page in the microfilmed book that I imagine explains why the records stopped at this point and did not commence until 1930. However, I am not able to interpret some of the words and some of the writing is not legible.
If there is an expert out in Nuestros Ranchos cyberspace who wants to take a shot at translating this document and/or providing any historical references, I would greatly appreciate it. I will send the scanned document to those that respond.
Also, for those interested in reading the diary (published in 1970 by an annonymous person), you can find it here:
http://www.sanjosedelosreynoso.net/Cristiada3.htm
Thank you, Roxanne Ocampo

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Churches in Mexico
Does anyone know how I can locate a certain church in Mexico? For example, I know that my grandmothers parents were married in San Juan de los Lagos, but I do not know what church. THe document says the priest is Don Urbano Barragan Velasco, a minister is also listed as Presbitero Francisco Esquivel and a "Father Priest" Senor Cura Pantaleon Fortolero. The priest who certifed the document in 1950 is named Estaban Sanchez V. I guess I may want to search the surnames of the priests to find family members who can tell me where this church is located. Any other suggestions?
One more hint. If you are using the Place Name Library Catalog in Familysearch, sometimes you will come up with nothing. That does not mean that they do not have records for that area. That search has to be exact, with your spelling exactly as they have it in the familysearch database. If at first you do not succeed, try, try again with alternate spellings and if you still do not find it, call your local Family History center and ask for some help.
Maureen Bejar
In addition to what Maureen Bejar said, you can also take your search one step back and look at the State level instead of the town level and that way you can see all of the towns that have information in that state. So if the name is misspelled you can easily see the variation "as they cataloged it". You would go to Place search and instead of putting the town, spell the State name and then choose the state and then click on "View Related Places", a list of all of the related places populates in alphabetical order. Then you choose the desired city (place). Try it, it's not that hard.
Saludos Desde Lago Salado (Salt Lake City, Utah)

Almost forgot, you might want to check out this site under films. Some of the records might have been batched already, which will cut your search down dramatically. However, you may want to order the film anyway, as some records do have much more information than what is on the batched record. It is the luck of the draw whether there is more information or not. Sometime you only get exactly what is on the batch or sometimes you get more generations, aunt and uncles, ages, occupation, origins and all sorts of lucky charms with the actual microfilm document.
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/films/Jalisco/1072
Click on the buttons and it takes your straight to the family search batch.

Hopefully the links above will work. The first is to the Library Catalog of familysearch. I put in the "place": San Juan Los Lagos and then "part of": Mexico
Click on the church records for San Juan Los Lagos and then at the top right there will be a button for "View Film Notes". It will list all the records and years on the left with the film numbers to order on the right.
Hope this helps.
Maureen
Thank you so much! This is great!

Lisa:
Most of the smaller towns in Mexico have only one parrish, even if there is more than one temple. Thus for records purposes, there is only one place to look as records are always kept at the parrish level.
San Juan de los Lagos is no exception. If you go to familysearch.org and check under the "Library" menu item, you can search by location and you will find that the only parrish in San Juan de los Lagos is the "San Juan Bautista" parrish... thus the name of the town.
You can then pull the films available for that town (civil or church), get a film number where you think your great-grandparents were married and order the film. If their marriage was onld enough, simply go to the "Films" section of Nuestros Ranchos and pull up the index for the marriage records of the town to find their marriage record extract.
Thank you So much!!!

Can anyone suggest a source for having a family tree done for display?
You might consider the program in Family Tree Maker. Put it on a flash drive and take it to Kinko's. They'll make the poster as big as you want. I've given away the 5'x5' posters to family. These posters cost about $4-$6 each. Ancestry.com has fancier ones that might be better quality keepsakes.

I agree. My Canvas which is a partner of ancestry.com does very nice work. It's very easy to use (you can upload your tree if you don't already have an ancestry.com tree), pick the poster you want and the hit a button and you're done. There is also editing capablity as well as printing off your computer or other place that does oversize printing. That capability is great for people other than the honorees who would like a copy. Customer service is great. I made a family history book for my aunt's 90th birthday and it came out very nice. Perfect gift for the older person who says they have everything they need. Sherri Mora

Mygenes2000,
(English)
I also have Rafael Munoz Padilla married to Ana Maria Munoz Gutierrez in
1801 in Jalos. By any chance do you have the names of their children? All I
have is my direct ancestor Trinidad who married Maria Pabla Marquez Munoz in
San Miguel el Alto in 1833. I have not been able to find a birth date -
according to the marriage record he was 28 at the time of the marriage but
have not been able to find a baptismal record that matches.
-Angelina-
This is close but it might not be him. Depending on when Trinidad was
married, the individual below might have been 29 but not 28.

I have a questionnow that you mentioned your wife descends from this line, I dont have the marriage date Francisco Javier Galvan de Rojas and Gertrudis Hermenegilda Gonzalez. I just know Francisco JAvier was baptized 31 Jul 1727in Jalostotitlan. I have him as son of Miguel G. de Rojas and MargaritaP. de Paredes. Not sure who are the parents of Gertrudis-Hermenegilda.

You are correct. He was baptized 31jul 1727. He was married on valentines day in 1748.
I do not have miguels parents. Salvadors parents are salvador gonzalez and rosa gert de anda altamirano. And petronila is a daughter of geronimo herrera and agustina (secundina) de la rosa delgadillo.
I believe you already have margaritas parents and grandparents.

Do you know in what city the Plaza de Cruz Moya might have been in 1679 in Zacatecas? I need to find out which LDS microfilms to order to try to locate records for:
Saludos A todos los miembros de nuestros Ranchos my name is Francisco Rubio.I want to thank Daniel Del Camino for giving me information with dates of birth of my Grandfather who was born in 1850 in C
I agree that this was a great idea to pose our brick walls to those who attended the conference.
Great idea Jose,
Here is my brick wall:
For years I have looked and looked for anything on my father's maternal ancestors. His paternal ancestors I was able to track clear back to the late 1600s in Jerez, Zac. with the help of several members of NR.
I cannot find my father's mother or her parents anywhere. Her name was Gorgonia Garcia, the daughter of Ignacio Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, very common surnames. I can't find anything on my father or his sister, either. I did find the information on their father, which is why I was able to track those to the late 1600s.
My father was born in Jerez in 1903, and his sister was born in nearby Guadalupe a few years earlier, so Gorgonia had to have been living in Jerez or Guadalupe at one time. The records for the first years of the 20th century were burned during the revolution--that is what a priest in Jerez told my father. Gorgonia died when my father was a toddler, so all he knew about her was her name and the names of her parents.

The idea was that a member could write down on a paper leaf his/her "brick wall" in his own genealogy research and perhaps someone else would choose his/her leaf and help break through it. I think it's a great concept, except that it might've been better to let any and all choose the same leaf.

Ed, I have the following film at my FHC for the dates that my father (Guadalupe Olague, born Jan. 28, 1903 in Jerez) was born, but I don't find him listed there:
0439867 Baptisms 1899-1903 Iglesia Immaculada
I also have never found a marriage listed for Gorgonia Garcia and my grandfather Francisco Olague. Maybe they weren't married and maybe they never baptized their children. I guess Gorgonia will remain a mystery.
Thanks,

If they ever came to the United States there should be border crossing
information on them that might indicate place of birth parents etc....
Additionally in the US censuses it usually indicates in what year they
immigrated to the USA. If you can find that information it should help you
to locate your ancestors. In the boarder crossings pay close attention to
who your ancestors are going to visit or traveling with them. Back then very
few people crossed illegally. You can access border crossing records and
census records at Ancestry.com. If your ancestors were in Mexico in 1930
that census is available online at http://pilot.familysearch.org but you
have to know the municipality and city and state where they resided. it will
give the age how long they have been married children and ages of the
children. Good luck!

Ed,
No, Gorgonia died in Mexico at the turn of the 20th century when my father was a toddler. His father immigrated with him and his sister and his brother and his family in 1913 when my father was 10 years old, and they never returned to Mexico except that one time in the early 1960s when my father went to Jerez to try to get his birth certificate he needed to get his retirement from Westinghouse. There were no records, so my father paid a lawyer and a judge in Jerez to give him one. My father became a naturalized US citizen in 1941, and I sent for those records but they only state that his parents were born in Mexico, no city, etc.

So did you look at the border crossing records for each individual that
immigrated? There is also the possibility that members of the family visited
the US or went to Mexico when children were born and baptized or for
marriages or deaths. They did not necesarily need to be your grandfather but
could have been one of his siblings, parents, uncles, cousins, etc.... So,
their could be additional border crossings. These records are not the same
as the naturalization record. Often they will give the place of birth, age,
traveling companions, place traveling too, people they are going to visit,
different dates in which they had entered the US. If it were my family, I
would definitely look for them.

Ed - Yes, I have scoured the immigration and border crossing records for my father's uncles, cousins, and their in-laws who crossed over in 1913. I don't find anything on them after the initial crossing. It appears that none of them ever returned to Mexico, nor did they keep up a correspondence with anyone back there. My father's mother had died in Mexico as well as all his grandparents except for the one grandmother Rafaela Tinajero, his father's mother, who they had brought with them.
The border crossing records from Juarez to El Paso don't state who they left behind, who their last contact was, only that their last residence in Mexico was Chihuahua, Mexico, no city, nothing else, that they were crossing over to remain permanently in the United States, and no destination was given.
My father and mother went to Jerez in July 1965 to try to obtain a copy of his birth certificate for retirement, but the priest there told him that the records had been burned. He then went to the Civil Registry where he was told to get a lawyer. The lawyer had a judge issue him a belated birth certificate due to his birth never having been recorded previously according to the law, and I still have the copy. My father died the next year.
In the copy of the "Papel Especial Para Certificados de las Actas del Registro Civil" only the names of his mother and father and his grandparents are listed (all deceased), no place of origin, etc. What is interesting to me (I don't read Spanish well) is that there were two witnesses, Severiano Munoz Escobedo and Monico Soriano Carrillo, "mayores de edad y vecinos de esta ciudad, quienes bajo protesta de decir verdad, manifestaron ser cierto lo que a los personas y hechos de que se trata".
It seems to me these men were testifying that they had known my father's parents, but I don't know if they had known his grandparents who had died long before. My father does have Sorianos and Escobedos in his lines, but I have not been able to tie these two men to any of my father's relatives in the records of Jerez or Tepetongo. Perhaps they were just neighbors, or who knows. My mother said my father was throwing money around down there.
People down there are poor and could easily be bribed. These two witnesses are probably dead by now. I wouldn't know how to contact anyone down there to hunt them or their children down. It has been so long now, 45 years. I remember my father said he couldn't find anyone who had known his relatives; he and his father had been gone from Jerez for over 50 years.
Most people down there have zero interest in genealogy, nor do they understand why anyone would want to find such long dead ancestors in the cemeteries, which according to one of my fellow NR members, are very unkempt and deteriorating. My father was very disappointed about the condition of the "jardin" in the plaza that had a cute little gazebo where he said musicians would play on Sundays. He said it had been so beautiful, full of flowers when he was small, but that it had become very neglected.
Thanks,
Emilie

So from what you are telling me I am assuming that you have looked at the
Información Matrimonial prior to your fathers birth as well as the
Matrimonios? Did you find the death record for your GMother Gorgonia?
Normally people where married in the locality where the bride is from. But
the Banns are "normally" published in both localities. Have you looked at
military records they might have additional information, who knows?
Ed,
I did look at the films for the matrimonios and the death records and found nothing. However, there are hundreds of rolls of films for Jerez alone, and I have been able to order and view only about a couple of dozen, and I haven't ordered the Dispensation films. I think I did look at the "hijos naturales" at the main FHC and there was nothing there.
I did send an e-mail for information about the military to a site recommended by someone in NR that lives in Mexico, since both my grandfather Francisco Olague Felix/Tinajero and and his brother-in-law Jose Garcia Davila had been revolutionary soldiers with high ranks, but they only had information on high-ranking Federales officers, not revolutionaries.
Jose's grandfather was a wealthy espanol hacendado who disowned his daughter for marrying an "indio". All the more reason for Jose to join the revolutionaries and marry the sister (Angela) of his fellow revolutionary, my grandfather.
My grandfather and his brother-in-law were going to be executed by a firing squad in Jerez, but my father's aunt Angela, the sister of my grandfather, used what influence she had left, loaded some of their possessions onto a train headed to Chihuahua, and got them out of Jerez just in time. I don't think anyone kept records of those that had been executed or scheduled for execution.
My father's cousin, the son of Angela, [born in Colorado as was I] told me that his mother had told him that somewhere along the way from Jerez to Chihuahua the Mexican authorities confiscated all her large "petaquillas" [trunks], so all her records, photos, and mementos were gone. She told him that the trunks had also contained the military uniforms, gunbelts, etc. of her brother and husband.
I think they spent some time in Chihuahua, but Gorgonia was left behind in Jerez in her grave as were her parents, if they were even from Jerez. My father's cousin has no idea of the time frame for their travels. My father and his father's generations are all long gone. They could have left Jerez as early as 1909, but didn't cross over the border until 1916-1917 never to return to Mexico. I know that his Olague grandfather, Pedro, died when he was just a toddler because my father remembered him. I think his grandfather raised him after his mother Gorgonia died. Pedro didn't live to cross the border, only his wife Rafaela did.
Health issues (my kidneys have failed) keep me from going out to the FHC and ordering more films. I only get out to see doctors and take tests, etc. We have been to SLC twice and my husband likes that city a lot, so I will try to get there before I get worse or later if I get better. That is the best way to view films there where they have them all. In the meantime, I can only hope that Family Search will put up the Zacatecas records online for us, the sooner the better.
Thanks,
Emilie

I was talking about military records in the United States also Ancestry has
World War I draft records amongst others. There might be information there.
You might also want to look at relatives of Gorgonia brothers, sisters,
etc., that might have remained in México. Their descendants might have
additional information.
Dear Ed,
I have looked at the WWI records in Ancestry. I found some records for my father's cousins, but they are the sons of my grandfather's brother Ygnacio Olague who crossed the border with him and they are not related to my father's grandmother Gorgonia.
I can't track relatives of Gorgonia because I don't know who Gorgonia's siblings and their descendants were. I have tried finding records for anyone born to Ygnacio Garcia and Maria Gaudalupe Rodriguez, her parents, and find nothing, not Gorgonia or any siblings.
There just are no records in Mexico for my father, even, or his only sibling, or their mother Gorgonia. I was hoping to find Ygnacio and Maria Guadalupe in Jerez (marriage, birth, children). I find nothing.
My father himself went to Jerez in 1965 and tried to track down anyone who remembered his parents and could find no one after fifty years of having been gone from there. He did hire a lawyer and paid the court for a belated birth certificate and listing in the Civil Registry which had not been done at his birth.
There were two witnesses during the court proceeding who claimed that they had known his parents, but they must be dead now. Did you read my e-mail about who those men were? They had surnames (Escobedo and Soriano) that appear among my father's ancestors, and I have tried to look for those men in the Jerez records and I don't find them. They could just have been neighbors or maybe my father just paid them to be his witnesses.
I have tried contacting people in Jerez to see if they know of those men via e-mail but I get no response, or I get promises from those who have lived in the US and moved back to Jerez to search for me, but I never hear from them again.
One person did send me a list of the Olagues that he found still living in Jerez, but I don't speak enough Spanish to contact them. If my father couldn't get any information on his relatives (he would have told us if he had found a distant cousin, etc.) then I don't know how I can do it.
I guess I will have that brick wall until Family Search puts more records online.
Thanks sincerely,
Emilie

If you provide more information, like the name of the siblings, (uncles and
aunts of your father) of your grandfather then maybe someone in the group
could look for those border crossings on Ancestry.com
Ed,
I have been a subscriber of Ancestry.com for years.
My father Guadalupe Olague had only one sibling, Soledad Olague who crossed over in 1917 with her paternal grandmother Rafaela Tinajero "to join her father". My grandfather came over first and found a job on the railroad in the Texas panhandle. From there he went to Morgan County, CO where they raised beets. His father's brother was Ygnacio Olague and he came over with Francisco around 1913, and he brought his wife Guadalupe and his children also.
In the census records for 1920 and 1930 they all lived in the same place and were the only Hispanics in that town, Snyder, CO, Morgan County. I was born there in 1939. During WWII we all moved to California, where my father and his cousins found jobs as welders at the Alameda shipyards working on Liberty Ships. My father's last job was as a welder at the Westinghouse plant in Sunnyvale, CA.
Thanks,
Emilie

Eduardo,
Thank you for your help. I apologize for the delay in my response. I found some info on my grandfather. I now have my great grandmother's name, it was Felipa Valdez. One of his sister's was Maria Dolores.
>From what I know, he was the only one who came over. I have searched the border crossings on Ancestry. com & I found my grandfather & grandmother on them. I don't know who his uncles or aunts were but I will continue to search.
Thanks again,

Yes, Salvador, who is a member of NR, and another person in Mexico City and one in Jerez and one in California are the ones who were able to help me the most with my trees on my Olague/Arellano side. In fact, Salvador's tree is the same as mine when you go back several generations, and he downloaded my tree from Rootsweb and he merged it with his so that I could get those ancestors we share from way back in the 1700s and late 1600s. I just haven't uploaded my revised tree to NR yet because I don't know how.
What happened is that the records in Jerez are almost complete for the Olague/Arellano, but there is nothing on my father himself or his sister or his mother's parents. I think the records from 1890 to 1903 were burned or maybe not microfilmed, or my father and his sister were not baptized. I can't find a marriage record for Francisco and Gorgonio either.
Thank you for your time; I appreciate it.

Yes, those are my great grandparents Pedro and Rafaela. They were from Tepetongo and Salitrillo. Pedro died in Mexico, but Rafaela came to the US with some of her sons and daughters and she died in Colorado in 1941. She lived to be almost 100 years old, but I don't remember her.
For some reason Rafaela and her brothers and sisters used various surnames from one record to another: Tinajero, Felix, Flores, Suriano, others. Hilario and Teodosia were her parents, but Pedro's parents in his marriage record were Jose Santiago Olague and Eduviges Suriano. Hilario also used different surnames: Tinajero, Felix. Some of the Felix Arellano changed their name to Tinajero---I don't know why.
I am also descended from the de la Torre, but that is way, way back.
I wish I could tell you more about Gorgonia, but she died when my father was still a baby, and all he knew about his mother was her name and the names of her parents. I have been looking for years for Gorgonia and her parents, Ygnacio Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, and I can't find anything.
Thank you again,
Emilie

Dear Emilie:
Did you also check film 0439868? This film also had baptisms for 1903. I usually check the film before or after if the years are duplicated. They may have the 1st part of the year on one film, then the second on the other.
Worth a try if you have not already done so. By the way, my mother-in-law was also told the church records had burned, but lo and behold, the LDS had all the records on film for her family. I was happy to give her a copy of her baptism.
Maureen Bejar
Hi, Maureen,
Yes I have checked both 0439867 1899-1903) and 0439868 (1903-1907) and did not find my father. I did find some of his first cousins. I also checked the film for the Civil Registry 1081921 for 1903-1904 and found nothing, but then my father knew he hadn't been registered in the Civil Registry since he went there himself in 1965 and he had to pay a lawyer and the court to add him on.
Thanks,
Emilie

Irma,
That's great news that you benefitted from the help of someone who volunteered to help with someone's brick wall.
I hope to assist one of our newest members with the beginning of his research and while it might not be a "brick wall" per say, it is a wall.
In the beginning, you don't really have a clear path or idea as to how to begin or proceed with your research, thus if feels like a brick wall.
Thanks everyone for your input.
Alicia

I agree that this was a great idea to pose our brick walls to those who attended the conference. As a member of the Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society, we have some of our brick walls posted on our website already.
Earlier this month, I attended the Conference, and have already benefited from this exercise. Another attendee, Jerry Munoz was able to help me with one of my brick walls. His assistance helped me greatly with my San Juan de los Lagos, Jal. del Portillo and Gallardo lines. I only hope that I can help the individual whose information I drew. I am working on it.
I look forward to attending the next conference in Southern California. I hope that Ranchos members from the south can make it happen.

http://www.translate.google.com

Martha:
Although it seems a little odd, most members of Nuestros Ranchos live in the U.S. Many members do not speak or write Spanish. Others do not speak or write English, so it complicates the situation. I agree with you that the members such as Claudia who can write in both languages and take the time to do so are a blessing but we cannot require everyone to write in both languages.
Claudia recommended that you use the Google translation service:
http://www.translate.google.com
You can simply put a web address (nuestrosranchos.org) and it translates the pages while you browse. In this manner you can read messages written in English.
Thank you for your participation.

Hi Ricii
These are also present in mediterranean people in certain populations over all, mostly from the neolithic migrations across the planet, before any of the present religions were present. It would be logical to conclude that are mediterranean ancestors were part of the Roman empire.
Here's a great study done in 2001. The percentages per capita per geographic locations reveals that their are more non jews overall with the same dna y haplogroups than jews, specifically J1, J2. Significantly higher, we are talking about in the millions and millions.

Hello R.A. Ricci, my family is from el Valle de Guadalupe. Is this docmented? Neither of my grandfathers r.i.p never said anything about this...please point me in the right direction...
Hello-
I have to say that I am so very dissapointed in most of the comments on this topic. No one should be attacked or belittled because they are trying to unravel the mystery of who they are.
Also there really is no iron clad Jewish DNA, so if one does the research and finds that part of themselves then that should be the research that is presented. Also I would encourage those who do not understand and call it a "fantasy" to do more research with a little more of an open heart BUT it seems pretty clear that this group is not capable of that, as demonstrated from the last few posts. These posts have not been put up to further our research, in fact they have probably disuaded many people reading them to just stop looking and feel ashamed, if they have jewish ancestry because of the myth of "clean blood". Well to thoe out there who are still looking -good luck and I am here if anyone wants help.

población española presenta características atribuibles a poblaciones
American Journal of Human Genetics.

población española presenta características atribuibles a poblaciones
American Journal of Human Genetics.

Dear members of NR,
I was under the impresion that specific guidelines were given regarding stop using the Research Forum to give opinion on the subject, and only use this Forum when well documented genealogical information (names, dates, and localities) is provided. I concur that there is no room for opinions in this specific Forum. Instead, they should be posted in the General Forum. Someone put it this way: For how long are we going to beat this dead horse?
Sincerely
Jaime
I have traced my acestry to 2 different rabbis living in Spain before the expulsion. My actestors were members of the Carabajal de Cueva group that landed in Tampico and colonized NE Mexico. One of these lines was through the Saldivar line. The other was through my Morales line. Can't get more jewish than that.

My Sanchez Navarro line goes toMelchora Sanchez Navarro, daughter of Juan Navarro and Maria Rodriguez, daughter of Baltazar Castano de Sosa, brother of Gaspar Castano de Sosa(explored New Mexico and captured by Inquisition) and Inez Rodriguez, daughter of Diego Montemayor and his wife Inez Rodriguez. Diego Montemayor was Carbajal's Lt Governor.
Castano de SOsa met Carbajal when he landed in Tampico and were his friends and came before him.
I also descend from Melchora's other sister's, Beatriz and Inez. Beatriz married (1)Alonso de Sosa Albernoz and had a daughter Ana de Sosa who married a Zaldivar. Inez married a Martinez who I believe came with Carbajal. His dna looks semetic.

Luis Carbajal landed at Tampico in the mid 1500s. Most of his line was extinguished by the Inquisition about 1592. I descend from passengers that were with him when he landed. They came ffrom Portugal. SOme of his sisters married but their descendands did not carry the CUeva Carbahal name.
Some of his brothers escaped to Italy but changed their name to Lambrusco.

Hello there Esther ,
It´s been awhile that you and I have talked . My interest in you mail is through the Saldivar line .
By any chance do you have the migration of the Saldivars that ended up in Nuevo Leon . My connection to them is through my GG Grandmother Maria Quirina Saldivar Gomez married to Candelario Alvarado . They married 26 of Oct. 1844 in the Villa de Santiago , Nuevo Leon .
Best to you ,
Welester

Miri,
Jose Esquibel has traced our Onate/Saldivar line to Abraham ha Levi and his son Solomon Ha Levi who were rabbis in Burgos, Spain. I know Solomon converted to Catholicism but I am looking for more information on the line. I know that Abraham was supposedly a friend of the King of Spain but do know know more than that. It wasn't the Abraham Ha Levi that was a poet. I think that one lived in a different part of Eurpoe.
