This has been a question to me for a while. Although we are Mormon we still carry the tradition of Padrinoship. for instance mine are my grandfather and his 2nd wife. I have a question. can Padrinos be a brother and sister? Im trying to connect my Angela de Oropesa. In a document, it says "fueron sus padrinos Magdaleno Lopes de Oropesa y Angela Lopes de Oropesa. In our Hacienda any people with the same last name is related. Hence the intermarriage. The Oropesas came to our hacienda around 1890. The ones were named Thomas, Gervacio, Magdaleno and Maria Oropesa. They were said to came after my 3rd grt grandmother came named...Angela de Oropesa who married Jose Maria Hernandez de Solis. And had Eulalia de Solis. Who married Estevan Lopez de Duran who had Lorensa Lopez de Solis who married Celso del Camino y de Soto. Who had Antonio Lopez del Camino who married Maria Guadalupe Vasquez de Elizalde, who had my grandfather Antonio II del Camino. Anyway...The fact is on a relatives baptismal Magdaleno and Angela Oropesa were padrinos, but she cant be married to him because at the same time he was married to Francisca Garcia de Bedoya. So it has led me to believe that Magdaleno and Angela are siblings. Can anyone help? -Daniel Mendez....d. C.

Alvarado my Great great Grandfather (Candelario ) was born in Villa de Saltillo in the state of Coahuila his parents were Juan de Alvarado and Maria Pascuala de Luna , Jose Antonio Candelario Alvarado was thier son baptized the 10th of Feb. 1792 . My question is do you think that the Lunas from Tlatenango came up to Coahuila ?

file containing surnames: Miramontes, Sandoval, Samaniego,Llamas,

I looking for anyone with ties to Rancho Los Aros (Haros). My grandmother, Antonia De Haro, was from there and her family - De Haro - have been there since the 1700's. I have some informaiton abt the families from their but would like to find someone else researchin that area.
Rancho Los Aros is near Jerez (Ciudd de Garcia Salinas) Zac.

I have also been researching the ESQUIVEL line from pinos Zac.

Have you seen the one listed in the FamilySearch.com IGI?  Her name is
Maria Josefa de la Santisima Trinidad Voronda, and she was baptized in Jerez on
May 9, 1784.  There is no father listed for her, only a mother by the name
of Maria Jasinta Voronda.  The film # is 0439846. 
 
The only other Vorondas listed in the IGI were two that were baptized in
Santiago, Bilbao, Vizcaya (Spain) in the 1500's.  I find that this name is
usually spelled Borunda in Mexico.  The records of the Spanish Archives for
passengers to the new world show only one person by that name, Gonzalo Borunda,
who came to the Dominican Republic in the 1500s.

and Maria Soza Serrano. I have a strong feeling that Luis Marin Herrera and
Luis Florencio Herrera are related...if the parents of Luis Florencio was
Cayetano Marin Herrera...it could mean that my Prudencio and Cayetano were half
siblings (with different mothers). I am thinking (if I am right) that he was
living in his own household...and about to get married to his first wife.

For a woman, it is beginning to sound like a death sentence to marry back in
those days.

Again, thanks for keeping me in mind and sharing...I soo appreciate it.
After growing up with no family, it is very cool to know that I had/have tons of
family.

In the census that you are extracting from that time frame, does it record
the "ethnicity", as in Espanol, mulatto, mestizo, etc??

Wow, thanks for this information. Pedro Prudencio Marin de Herrera
originated in this little rancho and was married several times during the mid
1700's....one of his wives was a Bugarin and one was an Estrada. Who knows, we might
be very distantly related!

I was recently surfing on Family Search and found the place where Lope Ruiz de Esparza originated from has several films from the 1500's. Ciudad Esparza, Pamplona, Navarre, Espana. Has anyone ever ordered this film. Its possible that Lope Sr. or his grandfather Martin Ruis de Esparza, or grt gf Simon Ruis de Esparza might be in this film

These might be related: 3 Tiscareno women (Beatris, Ysabel & Juana)...2 of
whom married Dias men...and one (Juana) who didn't marry a Diaz man, but
whose 3 daughters married Dias men. This one is a stretch.....probably not
related, but....I offer the following:

There appear to be 3 sisters, all daughters of Luis de los Reies and Juana
Tiscareno who each married 'Dias' men:

Theresa de los Reies m. Francisco Dias - Aguas., Aguas., 1683

Although I have info on Diego's marriage, father's name isnot listed. But
both Antonio's and Francisco's parents are listed as Juan Diaz (Dias de
Lomas)and Angela de Merida (residents of the city of Zacatecas). Perhaps
these Dias men were related. I can't prove the link, but there might be one,
since several of this group's children were baptized by Pedro Romo de Vivar
and Lorenza Ruis de Esparsa.

I will continue working on this.

I can't be absolutely sure of course, but it looks like this may be a strong
connection to my family line. The "acta" that I have definitely states that
Pedro was from the Rancho de las Ranas, but I also have bumped into the fact
that he had been married at least (4) times. I am hoping that this is the
right tree line....

Isn't it amazing how small these ranchos were (based on the population)? I
bet these families were among the originals who settled in the area....

Speaking of ranchos, did you get the pictures I sent of an original rancho
from the Hernandez family whose origins were from Jalisco (El Nopal/Nopalito,
near Arandas)? I tried to upload them, but was not too successful, although
I was successful on uploading an old picture. The rancho was refurbished,
and is 150 years old. The man who refurbished it maintained the integrity of
it's original look. It really does prove a hint as to how people lived in
those days.

Well, I finally got it right. I updated my genealogy folder and uploaded
new files that contain descendancy charts for my Martin del Campo, Cabral,

I have updated my genealogy file. However, I don't seem to be able to get
the new file into my file folder. I deleted the original one, then when I
tried to upload the new one, it would come out as a shortcut file, just
basically a little box with cryptic lettering in it. I don't know what I
did, but just to let you know I currently have no file in my folder, still
trying to figure out how to get the updated one on there.

Could anyone please explain to me the purpose of the

Professionally, I have been doing technical, economic, and demographic
research for decades, - - - and genealogical for the last several years.

I am fortunate to be in Southern California, which has a multitude of
University libraries in the region, and have had access to all their
libraries, and also governmental (cities, counties, state and Federal
libraries), - - - and, over the years, have spent many, many hours per week
going from library to library hunting for and consulting those books that I
could find.

Now, a quick inquiry in www.worldcat.org lets me know which libraries
throughout the world have a book that I would wish to consult.

Already in my Internet "favorites" are the addresses of such places as the
central cataloguing for all the libraries in the University of California
System (10 campuses, plus its Digital Library, Bancroft, Melvyl, etc.) and,
similarly, State of California Universities, governmental libraries, etc.
Basically all of their holdings are available by interlibrary loans, by
"filling-in an order/request slip" and have them delivered to the closest
San Diego Library of my choice.

Additionally, in the County of San Diego we have a "San Diego Circuit"
consortium of 8 nearby University Libraries and 34 County Libraries whose
books can be ordered online and delivered for checkout at any nearby
Library of choice.

All of these are borrowings of the actual books but, as if this weren't
enough, the University of California has partnered since last year with
Google to digitize millions of its library books, and put them online (at
books.google.com ) for public use.

So, Arturo, are we living in bountiful times or not? We are becoming
capable of on-line tapping the "knowledge of the world." ... And then, we
add the gigantic digitizing (and indexing) project of the Mormon Church.

If I sound ecstatic, it is only because I am out of my mind !! And can you
imagine if these tools had been available when I was going through college,
or doing aerospace research some decades ago?
