These might be related: 3 Tiscareno women (Beatris, Ysabel & Juana)...2 of
whom married Dias men...and one (Juana) who didn't marry a Diaz man, but
whose 3 daughters married Dias men. This one is a stretch.....probably not
related, but....I offer the following:

NOTE: I have looked for other children of this marriage and can't seem to
locate more...not sure why,
because neither appear in the burials until 1677. Nor do I have any info on

There appear to be 3 sisters, all daughters of Luis de los Reies and Juana
Tiscareno who each married 'Dias' men:

Luisa de los Reies m Antonio Dias - Aguas., Aguas., 1670
Isavel de los Reies m. Diego Dias - Aguas., Aguas., prior to 1675
Theresa de los Reies m. Francisco Dias - Aguas., Aguas., 1683

Although I have info on Diego's marriage, father's name isnot listed. But
both Antonio's and Francisco's parents are listed as Juan Diaz (Dias de
Lomas)and Angela de Merida (residents of the city of Zacatecas). Perhaps
these Dias men were related. I can't prove the link, but there might be one,
since several of this group's children were baptized by Pedro Romo de Vivar
and Lorenza Ruis de Esparsa.

I will continue working on this.

I can't be absolutely sure of course, but it looks like this may be a strong
connection to my family line. The "acta" that I have definitely states that
Pedro was from the Rancho de las Ranas, but I also have bumped into the fact
that he had been married at least (4) times. I am hoping that this is the
right tree line....

Isn't it amazing how small these ranchos were (based on the population)? I
bet these families were among the originals who settled in the area....

Speaking of ranchos, did you get the pictures I sent of an original rancho
from the Hernandez family whose origins were from Jalisco (El Nopal/Nopalito,
near Arandas)? I tried to upload them, but was not too successful, although
I was successful on uploading an old picture. The rancho was refurbished,
and is 150 years old. The man who refurbished it maintained the integrity of
it's original look. It really does prove a hint as to how people lived in
those days.

I have updated my genealogy file. However, I don't seem to be able to get
the new file into my file folder. I deleted the original one, then when I
tried to upload the new one, it would come out as a shortcut file, just
basically a little box with cryptic lettering in it. I don't know what I
did, but just to let you know I currently have no file in my folder, still
trying to figure out how to get the updated one on there.

Could anyone please explain to me the purpose of the

Professionally, I have been doing technical, economic, and demographic
research for decades, - - - and genealogical for the last several years.

I am fortunate to be in Southern California, which has a multitude of
University libraries in the region, and have had access to all their
libraries, and also governmental (cities, counties, state and Federal
libraries), - - - and, over the years, have spent many, many hours per week
going from library to library hunting for and consulting those books that I
could find.

Now, a quick inquiry in www.worldcat.org lets me know which libraries
throughout the world have a book that I would wish to consult.

Already in my Internet "favorites" are the addresses of such places as the
central cataloguing for all the libraries in the University of California
System (10 campuses, plus its Digital Library, Bancroft, Melvyl, etc.) and,
similarly, State of California Universities, governmental libraries, etc.
Basically all of their holdings are available by interlibrary loans, by
"filling-in an order/request slip" and have them delivered to the closest
San Diego Library of my choice.

Additionally, in the County of San Diego we have a "San Diego Circuit"
consortium of 8 nearby University Libraries and 34 County Libraries whose
books can be ordered online and delivered for checkout at any nearby
Library of choice.

All of these are borrowings of the actual books but, as if this weren't
enough, the University of California has partnered since last year with
Google to digitize millions of its library books, and put them online (at
books.google.com ) for public use.

So, Arturo, are we living in bountiful times or not? We are becoming
capable of on-line tapping the "knowledge of the world." ... And then, we
add the gigantic digitizing (and indexing) project of the Mormon Church.

If I sound ecstatic, it is only because I am out of my mind !! And can you
imagine if these tools had been available when I was going through college,
or doing aerospace research some decades ago?

descendents of my own line, i am attempting to asssist her in her line. Ysidro was
married three times, Apolonia was 3rd wife, they had three children, Antonio,
born Tlaltenango 1848, Franciso, and Maria. Antonio, my wifes father went to
Jerez then to Mazatlan and became a large land owner (Tobacco, Chocolates.

Dear Maureen,

Have you ever been there? It is soo beautiful. It is also one of the few
places where Native Americans abound...El Valle is about 15 minutes from
Tangancicuaro...and the border between El Valle and Etucuaro is virtually
non-existent. Etucuaro is obviously indigenous, while El Valle is obviously not, and
they have rivalry issues. Bordering El Valle are also two small towns called
San Antonio and Gomez Farias. If you are interested...I can send you some
pictures. El Valle de Guadalupe has an internet site, with some interesting
verbal history that was recorded and some neat pictures.

Wow....You are absolutely right about those family names...very prevalent in
El Valle. Here's what I was able to get from my husband's great aunt, who
by the way is in her mid 80's and is a nun in Jacona, Michoacan where I took a
picture of when it was founded (1520's).

As you can see, there are several Rochas....one through my mother-in-law
side and again through my father'in-law's side. According oral tradition...the
Duartes and Rochas were very prominent...having obtained most of their money
from bootlegging (you can imagine this information did not come from my
in-laws (lol)...rather, it came from other older men.... I can get some
information from my mother-in-law about her Rocha side of the family.....

It is believed that Pedro Ortiz was born in San Antonio, according to my
deceased father-in-law. But newer information revealed that he was born off in
a small ranch.

Juan Duarte who married Maria Rocha....one of their children's names was:

Socorro)...they had the following:

very few if any are available for the areas we research in Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.

At this time you can't access the actual films online but have to order
and view the films at your local family history center.

The film section gives you the ability to _get an idea_ of what is on
each film listed if there is an associated batch number. So if you see a
film and there is an IGI or VRI next to the film number you can click on
it and it will show you all the information that someone painstakingly
transcribed off each film and made available. If you put a surname or
given name and a surname in you will be able to narrow the results.
[NOTE: This information is subject to error as many times the
information is transcribed by people that are not actually doing
research from this area or possibly even fluent in the Spanish
Language]. Any information you find here should be used only as a guide.
You find the info and then you order the film. Use the dates from the
IGI/VRI to tell you where to go the actual film so you can CONFIRM FOR
YOURSELF that the information is accurate.

Ask more questions if anything is unclear. Who knows but someone might
step forward and do a nice tutorial on Batch Searching similar to the
one Maria Cortez did on "PAF Instructions for creating reports in Rich
Text Format (.rtf)" which can be found in the files:

I belive the compounded surname "Diaz de Tiscareño" began in 1659, when
Baltazar Diaz married Beatriz de Tiscareño. I don't know who Baltazar's
parents were, but Beatriz's parents were Luis Tiscareño de Molina and
Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. Beatriz was a grandaughter of Lope Ruiz de Esparza
and Ana Francisca Gabai de Moctezuma.

I know that Baltazar Dias and Beatriz de Tiscareño had a son named Joseph
Diaz de Tiscareño, but I have not been able to find any of his siblings.
However, there was a Francisco Diaz de Tiscareño who married Juana de
Tiscareño Aguilera in 1720. Francisco is probably a close descendant of
Baltazar and Beatriz (maybe a son or grandson) but I don't know for sure.
Francisco and Juana had a number of children born between 1720 and 1738.
They carried the surname Díaz de Tiscareño for obvious reasons. In the
first place, their father's surname was Diaz de Tiscareño, and in the
second, their mother's surname was Tiscareño Aguilera. They may have been
cousins or close relatives. This is not my line, so I really haven't done
any serious research on these families. I'm connected to Luis Tiscareño de
Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza through their daughter Maria, Beatriz's
older sister who married Capt. Juan Romo de Vivar.

I believe that most people with the surname Tiscareño who lived in
Aguascalientes in the 17th and 18th centuries are descendants of Luis
Tiscareño de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. Bear in mind that some
servants and slaves were also given the priviledge to carry their master's
surname, so you'll find some who are really not their descendants. Luis
Tiscareño de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza had many slaves and indian
servants, but if they are listed as "españoles" they probably are their
legitimate descendants.

I did find an IGI record for Nicolás Díaz de Tiscareño, who married María
Dionicia de Pedroza on 05 Apr 1731 in Santa María de los Lagos, Lagos de

January 1734 at Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. Just like you, I don't
know who the parents of Nicolas Diaz de Tiscareño were.

I noticed that Connie Dominguez promised to look into this matter over the
weekend. I know she spent a lot of time researching the Tiscareños a few
years ago. She can probably be of great help to you to find your link to
Lope Ruiz de Esparza and Francisca Gabai.

I have the rest from 1500-1705, I just need someone to verify it for me. Here are my records that someone can use to find the children and verify the grandparents. I need a verification for at least one of them that the parents of Nicolas de Tiscareno (b. 1705) are in fact Diego de Tiscareno and Luisa de Aguilera. I would be eternally grateful to this person because it would be my first line back to Spain. If anyone ever needs help with anything, I will be at your service. You can use this to hopefully at least one will have the grandparents. And if possible at least scan one copy that contain the grandparents. Does anyone know if all the baptims are required to include the pat. and mat. grandparent's names? Or did it just depend on the preist. Ive only seen 1800's baptisms and always include parents, pat. and mat. grandparents and padrinos. But since Im trying to connect my Diaz de Tiscareno line back to Lope Ruiz de Esparza, im going to order the necessary baptisms records for Nicolas Diaz de Tiscareno's children some in Cienega de MAta, Jalisco, and some in Aguas. Aguas. He was born around 1705 in Aguas. Thanks to Margie Esparza I have a possible link to Lope from Nicolas Diaz de Tiscareno, but I need to prove it first. I have a request for a film look-up. We are looking for the baptism record of Magdalena LOPEZ Rodrigues born 22 Jul 1901. Mascota, Jalisco. Her SSDI shows 1901, but the vital records for Calif death records shows the birthdate as 22 Jul 1898. So if someone has Bapt. film # 1156173 for Mascota, Jal, I would appreciate a look-up. We don't know the parents names and just found out her mother's maiden name is Rodrigues. I noticed the Ranchos film database has 3 films from Mascota and I am hoping maybe our listing is not up to date.
Magdalena's siblings Alfonzo and Petra were born in Mazatlan, Sin. If anyone is researching that area, please contact me on the side. kcortez@starstream.net

I have just returned from a trip to Guadalajara, and a small ranch known as
Nopalitos (near Arandas), as well as Zamora and surrounding villages.

I got some great pictures of refurbished hacienda (pictures will follow) for
the ranch...this family's surname is Hernandez....

While in Michoacan, I got some great information from a great aunt (on my
husband's side of the family), but when I tried looking up the information at
family search, I realized that the pueblo was not founded until the late 1800's
or early 1900's...and although this great aunt testified that the family
members were all born in El Valle de Guadalupe, Michoacan(going back to at least
the mid 1800's)....none of the names given were associated with the
village...but some seem to be associated with Tangancicuaro...which is where
currently most of the residents conduct their legal affairs. Can anybody help me with
this?

In the meantime, I ate at Garibaldi's...famous for Carne en su Jugo. My
sister gave me the recipe...and with a bit of this and that....I was able to
successfully ALMOST duplicate it....here it goes....

It is a bit time consuming, with all the chopping and frying...but well
worth it....Skip down to the English version.

Acabo de llegar de Guadalajara, y me enamore de este platillo. Mi hermana
me habia dicho como preparar este platillo, pero cuando llegue a E.U., se me
habia olvidado.

Para los que viven in E.U.:, compre carne (sirloin) y yo lo corte muy fino,
un pedazo de jamon (los que venden para desaynar) cortando en cuadritos, y
medio paquete de tocino (grueso) que tambien corte en pedasitos.

No pude encontrar tomatillo, pero compre dos botes de salsa de tomatillo,
use chiles (hungarian), y tampoco pude encontrar esas sebollas...asi es que
corte una sebolla, y lo frei junto con los chiles.

Sigue la receta, segun como Gaby indico....salio todo requisimo. Gracias

For those of you interested in duplicating this recipe, you will need the
following ingredients:
sirloin (the one balled up): I cut it very thinly.
1/2 of a package of thick bacon (cut in squares)
1 slice of breakfast ham (cut in squares)
2 small cans of tomatillo sauce
4 hungarian peppers(diced)
1 onion (sliced)
One pot of pinto beans (cooked by you) - NOT REFRIED.
Cilantro
Onions
Lime (optional)
Tortillas (corn) soft or fried

Cook all bacon in a frying pan, rendering its fat - place to the side. In
the same fat, cook your breakfast ham - place to the side. Strain some of the
fat, and place your hungarian peppers and onions - place to the side. Then
place some of the bacon fat in a dutch oven pot, and saute the sirloin. When
sirloin is done, add all ingredients placed on the side, add water to cover
and a bit of worshester sauce as well as beef boullion. Cover and let it
simmer for about 1 hour.

In the meantime, chop onions and cilantro.

When ready, serve a spoonfull of beans with some of the juice and the beef
stew, with some of the juice...garnish with onions, cilantro...serve with lime
and tortillas.

This recipe is VERY CLOSE to Garibaldi's recipe from Guadalajara.
