Preguntas/Questions......Hurtado de Mendoza

Hola a Todos!

I have a couple of questions, which I would like to ask.
I know now the parents of the wife of Rodrigo Cristobal Olivares 1563, Maria Hurtado de Mendoza 1567, were Toribio Hernandez de Arellano Ab1550 and Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza Ab1550. Aguas.
I saw it written that Isabel is believed to be the daughter of Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, who is the son of Rodrigo Dias de Vivar Hurtado de Mendoza ab1482, Marques de Cenate, and Maria Fonseca y Toledo Ab1486, Guad. España.
Does anyone know this to be true?

Also does anyone know anything about Ana Camacho’s family 1622, who was married to Juan Gutierrez de Mendoza 1621, Jalos.?
Does anyone know about Juan Maciel and Marcela Galvan de Rojas who were the parents of Antonia Micaela Maciel who was married 1721 to Cristobal Gutierrez de Mendoza?

Thank you for any help.
Sophia

Hola a Todos!

Tengo algunas preguntas.

How do you get evidence for Noble/royal lines?

I have connected my Ornelas line back to Alvaro de Ornelas who came from portugal to Mexico city in 1527. He was the son of El "Conde de Dornelas" his name was also Alvaro Dornelas. I have backed it up through Microfilm back to 1565 in Lagos de Moreno where the Alvaros son was born in 1567, and then the rest is just what the royals except the genealogy.

Here is what it looks like

Alvaro de Ornelas, Count of Dornelas, born ca. 1462 in Dornelas, Portugal

Alvaro de Ornelas born ca. 1494 in Lisbon, Portugal

Alvaro de Ornelas born ca. 1531 in Mexico City

Alvaro de Ornelas born 24 Mar 1567 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco

I guess Alvaro was a family name!

If you keep going back to genealogy the Ornelas descend from the Pedro I, King of Portugal, through one of the Ornelas who married his daughter Princess Estefania of Portugal, and also King Robert II of France through one of his daughters, Princess Alembert of France and then the Kings of Aragon, though Princess Jimena of Aragon. The Ornelas are direct descedants of Ramiro III, King of Leon. Im also having this problem with other noble lines, but Im not sure whether just to except what has been established or keep searching. Im assuming the Nobility kept good records i suppose. Can anyone help me, Im really confused. What would you do? Thanks.

Pintura of Don Martin Casillas...

Wednesday, Dec 24, 2008

Dear Group--

Many years ago when I was an active part of SHHAR in Orange, California, I was given a poster which was about Don Martin Casillas--
Architect/ Alarife of the cathedrals Puebla de Los Angeles, Mexico City and Guadalajara. Listed as his some of his descendants were the following seven SHHAR members; Tony Campos and his wife Clarisa Vega, Ramon Godinez, George Herrera, Ophelia Marquez, Mary Lou Montagna, and Lillian Wold.

There were pictures of two cathedrals and various people. In the center was a large picture of Don Martin Casillas. We were told later that the picture was actually that of Miguel de Cervantes, the writer of Don Quixote. Ha-ha-ha, what a laugh we got from that.

Here is more from the poster which was given to me by Lillian RAMOS Wold:

Don Martin CASILLAS was born in Almendralejo, Extremadura, Spain about 1556. He arrived in Puebla de Los Angeles, Nueva Espana around 1578 with the new viceroy, don Lorenzo de Suarez y Mendoza, Count of Coruna. Don Martin was commissioned to work on the construction of the cathedral in Puebla. In 1583, when Viceroy Lorenzo de Suarez y Mendoza died, don Martin Cassillas was sent to work on the Mexico City Cathedral. He took his wife Mencia Gonzalez Cabrera, daughter of Francisco Jimenez and Mencia Gonzalez Cabrera, with him to Mexico City and their two children, Maria and Martin (born respectively 1580 and 1582.) His third Child, Francisco was born in Mexico City in 1584 (an architect like his father.) After approximately two years, he was assigned to the Cathedral at Guadalajara. There were four more children born in Guadalajara; Rodrigo Bernardo, Mariana, Domingo and Ines.

Don Martin Casillas was paid in land to supplement the payment for the work he did on the Cathedral of Guadalajara. There were only two cathedrals that were larger than the one in Guadalajara and they were the one at Puebla and the one in Mexico City. He was buried in Mexico City and years later, his body was exhumed and interned in the family vault in the cathedral of Guadalajara. Years later, his wife and some of his children and grandchildren were also buried in the family vault in the cathedral of Guadalajara.

The best to each and everyone of you from the home of Ramon GODINEZ and Patricia Diane LONGHURST (AKA Patricia Burton) in San Diego, Ca.

Quieren Ayuda a encontrar sus antepasados? Do you want help in finding your ancestors?

If you want to have better results, simply put more data. Do not limit yourselves to showing both of the last names you’re looking for. Put information about relatives: brothers, spouse (s), children, etc…. What is the first name? When did the birth take place, marriage, death- in what date and place and more importantly why do you think that? People do not always use both last names; sometimes they use the mothers’, certain families use the last name of a famous relative, for many generations. Putting more information is going to open the doors and people are going to be able to help with greater effectiveness.

Hola Daniel, Juan Pablo y Enrique:

1.- Yo: Tomas Alejandro Villegas Gomez
2.- Mis Padres: Tomas Villegas Gutierrrez y Ma. Elena Gómez Castellanos.
3.- Mis Abuelos: Jose Gomez Gomez y Sara Castellanos Romero.
4.- Mis Bisabuelos: Teofilo Castellanos Franco y Ma. Asuncion Romero
Segundo.
5.- Mis Tatarabuelos: Benito Castellanos Ruiz y Ma. Soledad Franco Aceves.
6.- Mis 4tos. Abuelos: Jose Trinidad Castellanos Ruiz de Velasco y Ma.
Ignacia
Ruiz de Velasco Aceves.
Aqui Dos lineas de Ruiz de Velasco.
7.- Mis 5tos.

a platicar via voip.

Daniel yo tambien estoy en Guadalajara, seria bueno conocernos y ver si
podemos

Atentamente:

Tomas Alejandro Villegas Gomez.

Totatiche 1842 Census

This last weekend, I scanned the entire 1842 Census of Totatiche, Jalisco. For anyone who is interested in the document, it can be downloaded from the following URL. You should be warned that it is a very large file (approximately 100MB) and will therefore take a very long time to download 10-15 minutes even with DSL.

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/Totatiche1842Census.pdf

I was thinking this may be a good project to take on as a group, i.e. extracting the data into a database that can then be used to publish a cross-referenced version of the census. If anyone is interested in participating in such a project, I can try to put together a way to collaborate.

Record of my Grandma, Maria del Carmen Ornelas

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with this: I searched the pilot program and found my grandma, Maria del Carmen Ornelas, b 28 Nov 1900, Jesus, Guadalajara, Jalisco.  Her father, Doroteo Ornelas and mother, Rosa Cortez. The film #1106706 and batch # is C01861-3.  The record is only for view at this time.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a copy of her birth record?  Or maybe it is only in extraction format and not ready for realease?  I could order the film but it takes forever.

Doroteo Ornelas came from Guanajuato and Rosa Cortez de Leon from Santa Cruz de Astilleros.  I cannot find Santa Cruz de Astilleros by Guadalajara.  Could it have changed names later?  If any one can help me I would be most greatful.

Escribanme si necesitan traduccion.  Gracias.   Esther Jordan (Lopez)

For those who might be interested we have one copy of : Cronica de la Provincia de Santiago de Xalisco, Escrita por Fr. Nicolas Antonio de Ornelas Mendoza y Valdivia. Pulished in 1952 by Instituto Jalisciense de Antropologia E Historia. The price of the book is $46.00, which includes US shipping costs. I am not doing research in this area otherwise I'd definitely be willing
to do look ups for you. On the other hand I found that the LDS Library
Services offer a great photocopy service that can get expensive if you
are looking for a lot of records. Here is info on that photocopy service:

go to http://www.familysearch.org
click on "Research Helps"
click on the "R" for Requests
download "Requests for Photocopies - IGI and Sources [Description] [PDF]"

the cost for photocopies is $2 each with a minimum order being $4

if you have any questions about this ask and I'll try to answer.

Aguascalientes films posted at the LDS Family Search Pilot

To all:

I discovered today the the LDS church has posted images at the new Family Search Pilot site from the Aguascalientes, AGS, microfilms of baptisms, confirmations, deaths, marriages and matrimonial investigations. The period covered begins in the 1600s and extends to the early 1900s. The images are not by themselves searchable, but when used in conjunction with the IGI, it is very easy to find records of interest. The image quality is quite high; you can also download the images. The image quality is high enough that you can significantly enlarge the images for items of interest. This is a truly marvelous addition to their site!

Saludos.

As many of you probably already know there are XIV edited volumes of the
Pasajeros a indias that deal with those who emigrated to "las Indias"
between the years 1509 and 1701 these books are available for purchase
from the "Archivo General de Indias". I looked up the cost of the last
seven and they run about 135 Euros a peace. I found an excellent blog
that tell how you can access the information in the books online. I have
actually been using the website that is referred in the blog for quite
some time. It is called, here is the URL: Pares.mcu.es the URL for
the blog article is:

Bill,
I have spend several sessions browsing page by page the "Informaciones Matrimoniales" hoping to find additional information. Unfortunately, the records suddenly stop in 1682 just to begin again in 1685. Thus 1683-84 are missing! I am not sure whether these were absent from the church records, were not microfilmed, or that the images were not uploaded by mistake on the Pilot Site. I guess we have another interesting mistery.

Thanks for the scan of the marriage record of Juan Macias Valadez and Juana Dominguez. You're absolutely right, it does say "Gomes espejo". There is no mention of racial group as "espa?oles", "indios", "mestisos" or what have you, but we know they were "espa?oles". I have been through most 17th century church records of Aguascalientes and so far have not found anyone with the surname "Gomes Espejo" or "Gomes de Espejo". The compounded surname may have originated in Jalisco, where a Juana Gomez de Espejo married a Pedro Navarro Gaitan in Tepatitlan, Jal. 2 July 1697, and a Joana Gomez de Espejo who married Pedro Gonzalez in San Agustin, Ayo el Chico, Jal. 10 May 1700. The last one was the daughter of Diego Gomez de Espejo and Mensia de Velasco. The only suggestion I have is to check "Informaciones Matrimoniales" of Aguascalientes. I spent nearly two years looking for the parents of my 5th great-grandmother Josepha I?iguez de Ulloa. Finally I ordered the
microfilm with "informa
ciones matrimoniales" for 1703 and there it was, with great detail including the declarations by several witnesses. As far as I know, those who wished to get married had to undergo the scrutiny of the Catholic Church, whether they needed a "dispensa" or not. Both pretensos were interviewed, as well as their witnesses.

"robados"

I am not sure of your question....but if I can clarify some things....

Many village and town names were changed after the Revolutionary War. Most
especially, if the town or village was part of an hacienda or resulted
thereof.

On a side note, the "robando" of a wife was quite common in some
communities...indeed my mother-in-law was "robada" - and from what I can gather - it was
a way to hook up with someone not from a perceived class - once "robada", s
he had to be made honorable, and a marriage would ensue.

When a person was "robada", she was taken to his family. Sometimes her
family remained stubborn in accepting the inevitable, but when a child resulted...

Ruis de Esparza in Aguascalientes

I am having some trouble trying to place some of the Ruis de Esparza (or de Esparza) women into their families. I have the following:

Juana Ruis de Esparza m. Pedro Macias, 16 Sep 1678, Aguascalientes
Catharina Ruis de Esparza m. Onofre Macias, 20 Nov 1707, Aguascalientes
Gertrudis de Esparza m. Juan de Escobar, no date, but perhaps 1690's

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Daniel--

I would like to see this dispensa myself. Could you tell me what Microfilm it is on or in what book and on what page?

Many thanks.
